Ash is the only trainer Alain considers worthy of facing off against him since unlike any other (besides Siebold Steven and Malva, who are all Elite Four/Champion) no one has put up a decent fight against him. Ash actually pushed Alain to a corner as well as the fact Ash and Greninja have some power similar to Mega Evolution that Alain is really interested in.

It's not a new OP, they just replaced the last 5 seconds of XY&Z's original animation since we're past Wulfric now.

The only way I can see this not ending with Ash's overall league victory is through TF intervention before the battle can end.

XY&Z33 - Ash's top 16 battle (3v3 match but only some segments are shown at the beginning, this battle could start at the end of 32 since they like to do that in leagues)
XY&Z34 - Ash's quarter final battle (obviously a 6v6)
Between these four battles, one is vs. Louis, another is vs. Ayaka, and the other two are probably some random COTDs without megas.
XY&Z35 and 36 - Ash's semi-final battle vs. Shota
XY&Z37 and 38 - Ash's final battle vs. Alain

This is all assuming no Team Flare shenanigans happen. Does this sound reasonable though? They might not show much from the other characters' battles, besides Alain vs. Trevor, Shota vs. Tierno, maybe some of Shota's earlier battles in 32, Alain's quarter final battle in 34 and his semi-final battle in 35 or 36.
