They're called Allemanic, Gothic, Frankish, Roman, Ghassanid, Sassanid or Alan, but they all look exactly 100% the same. To be BOTH. Orcs are both serious and not serious. They're a fucking marauding band of barbarians that will raze your towns and massacre everyone in it, but they'll also be dumb and mean to each other. And their only way to establish leadership is for the boss to be meaner and bigger. That's why Grimgor is basically the damn perfect faction leader for the orcs, because he is both the biggest juggernaut among named characters, because he manages to gather such a Waaagh that it can basically be considered a force of nature simply by doing what orcs do best (stomping gits until they fall in line) and still manages to be silly in between. I just don't really agree with the narrative always being pushed that Total War is in some kind of terminal decline of reduced complexity. Every game has swapped features in and out depending on the context of the setting. It's just people having different ideas of which features are important and which aren't, then trying to spin that into some kind of narrative.
