It's not that. As someone who reads the entire thread through until the end when it has a good quantity of posts when I first join the general, I think the faster velocity makes it harder to catch up what is going on on this general. The faster the general goes, the more you lose over what was discussed.
Normally, I can get behind it, but there was an anon here some threads ago who showed a screenshot of his tab bar full of archived /sthg/ threads, which meant that he lost a great portion of conversation that he could have participated in. While it might be his fault for being TOO SLOW, it also has to do with how fast /sthg/ is going.

i haven't played the genesis titles till very recently, i'm actually extremely new to sonic

i do like the genesis games but i'm having trouble understanding the mindset i need to get into when i play them

while i go fast sometimes, there's a lot of cheap bullshit like reverse springs at the end of a loop, spikes, and enemy attacks which you can go speeding into with little reason to prepare

what's the idea behind those? am i supposed to memorize the level layout?

Speed management is a part of the gameplay. There are sections that let you just run loose, but there are also sections where you need to be a bit more careful. Also, a general rule of thumb is that if you're on a lower path, you're more likely to run into traps, and if you're on an upper path, just be careful about pitfalls and you're golden. It's less intended to be "memorize this shit" and more "you went fast this time, but can you go even faster next time?"

It should also be stated that games like Mania and the 2D sections in the boost games usually zoom out far enough to help with the cheapness. Screenspace on the Genesis was at a bit of a premium to make way for that BLAST PROCESSING (tm).

Regardless of whether or not the FFs are in the new series, I believe in IDW and trust them to produce a fantastic comic!

Maybe during the reboot negotiations, Sega realized that cutting the FF completely would demolish the readership retention for the comic, and now they see the release of Forces as a good way to hook those old readers in by gently folding the FF into the new IDW storylines, since the theme of Forces is so similar.

But on the other hand, maybe Sega thinks they can do the whole Resistance thing better than the old comics could, and that they can draw in a whole new legion of fans into reading their spin on things. But seeing how average the sales were for Mega Drive #2, it's hard to see that as viable now but maybe that will change if Forces is well-received.

Assuming Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy are shoe-ins for IDW, if there's one character I'd like to have return, it's Silver. He was basically just Trunks in 06 and Rivals but during the late run of Archie he was written to make for such a likable and interesting character, a well-meaning wannabe hero who is kindly and altruistic, but is held back by his own naivete and moments of weakness and insecurity. He's probably my biggest reminder of the great things the comics have done for both the neglected characters and the poorly handled ones.

And he cute.

Two playstyles: Adventure-style Sonic platforming and Boost Sonic.

Three playable characters: Sonic, Knuckles, Tails

Plot: Adventure level of seriousness but every single cutscene is skippable. In fact you can just turn them off entirely in the options menu at any point. If you skip them/turn them off you get a little summary. You can turn that off too if you want.

Gameplay: There are two types of stages - travel and exploration.
Travel: played by Sonic. They're basically just the daytime stage from Unleashed. They're mostly fully 3D with a focus on going extremely fast. They're called travel stages because Sonic is traveling from one literal plot point to another. Think running from one city to another faraway one across the planet.
Exploration: these are basically like Sonic's stages in SA1/2 but Tails and Knuckles play them. They control like Sonic did in those games, but Tails has a double jump + hover and Knuckles can glide. You go fast in these stages, but not boost-Sonic levels of fast. They're called exploration stages because you'd be exploring and running around a small area, like a city or forest.

Music: Adventure 1's type of soundtrack where there's like a million different genres. Every stage has the option to change what background music plays like in Generations.
