SMR needs 2 hits to kill but has smallish projectiles.
L-STAR needs more shots but has larger projectiles.
L-Star has "infinite ammo"
SMR can heavily damage Titans.

Objectively the L-STAR is more forgiving to use against pilots (and more fun) and is arguably more effective. However the SMR can do just as well, if not better, than the L-STAR against pilots with the additional ability to damage Titans. You get two for the price of one with SMR.

I don't like most of them, mostly because they can't use warpaint and the nose art is done really lazily. They don't even get the "bonus decals" that show up when you apply nose art to the standard titans. Basically this. Once the devotion got fixed and the r97 buffed for some reason those guys jumped on the latter. The knowledge of SMGs having laser accurate hipfire and the best DPS at almost all ranges also spread. Meanwhile, the playerbase shrunk. That's why you're seeing a lot more people running easy mode classes.

One of the things I really like Ion is that her kits are all really well balanced and useful. She's very flexible. I ran a match against a bunch of monarchs and legions and bullied the shit out of them using Enhanced Vortex, and when I get a match with a ton of Ronins it's no problem to just swap to 5-way split or tripwire for spam.

It's really difficult to get the hang of against pilots with the smoke, projectile size, speed, etc. If you can keep up a good speed and lead your shots it can be very rewarding. Flying by a pilot while raining mini-rockets on them is so satisfying. Also if you didn't try it, use amped weapons to utterly melt Titans.

I was just skimming the article for the mobile titanfall game and I see a picture of a pilot using a sword. Mobile users get pilot swords and we don't ;_;

His biggest weakness is that he can't sustain a counterattack and has to commit to every engagement when every other titan can break off. He can only fire one shot and reload, and he only has one dash. So when he gets attacked he can't do enough damage fast enough to dissuade enemy titans from chipping away at him, and if he attacks he has to keep attacking because he can't pull back fast enough to get away even though every titan can move as fast or faster than he can with his shield up.

Before though Scorch had trouble approaching not only due to being ogre class with slow reload but because he had to tiptoe around his fire with also pursuing enemies. Now he can just walk up to them. Sure, a NS or Tone at long range will still have the advantage and you shouldn't engage them but this buff helps more than you think.

Yes, they do help, but they're not a huge deal. You can already reduce damage by 80% and it doesn't significantly change how he plays. If the enemy can walk away it doesn't matter much if you can plod through your own flames. If they can't walk away then loading extra spicy shield would have been better. No crits is nice though.

I use it when there's a lot of annoying Ronins, the close range DPS boost is nice and most of them phase past tripwires anyway, so zero cost tripwires are less useful. It does use energy, however Ronins get too close to make zapping them worthwhile since that's a peek-and-snipe weapon, and their shotgun rounds don't get reflected by vortex shield iirc. Like the other anon said, it's good for close range DPS when your other options aren't as viable.

I had more success when using Wildfire Launcher and Overcore instead of the usual dash/shield. Problems you're describing are mainly an issue when you're relying on cornering someone with the Inferno Shield and staking everything on that.

I learned that the termite launcher can do a shitton of damage with sticks (and it's getting buffed, fuck yes) making it actually guy at cornering if you can factor in the projectile travel time - I could outdamage anyone beside Northstars that are just the best at peaking.

One on one with Ronin's ? DON'T walk at them, they will just back away from your shield and melt you with the shotgun. But if you bait him into walking away without blocking, the moment you start backing away as well his shotgun rapidly loses range and damage while your gun can take out 1/3 of his life in one shot.

Bonus tip: experiment with shooting at enemy feet/waist rather than center mass when doesn't have a wall behind him. You can't crit them anyway and I noticed that when thermite sprays out it will fly forward sticking to their feet.
