I've never seen this general before. All I need to know is is there anything AC related that I can get on PC?

me:
>poor kid who never had a ps2
>never owned AC games but played them at friends house
>always wanted to develop some elaborate backstory of my mech
>only dreams, never a reality
>now older and have money because job
>want to indulge in fantasy

>>182284913
You can emulate PS1-PS2 games and the PSP games. Iso's are on EmuParadise. I saw someone say there's PS3 emulation but I haven't heard of it prior.

But specifically an AC for PC, nothing as far as I know.
>>
>>182284913
yeah you can emulate ps2 and psp games and maybe eventually the ps3 emulator will run ac as well

thanks lads. I'm about to order a new Ryzen build so I guess I can try emulation. I've had success with PS1 games but haven't tried the PS2 yet. I've heard that PS2 emulation isn't quite optimized, even after all these years. I do have a freemcboot ps2 card so I guess I'll burn a copy of those games.

Literally wanting to make a mech game, getting bored of Soulsborne games, player demand, things like that.

Soul's success is the #1 reason why they need to make a non-souls game. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
>Most of soul's money goes to Bandai or Sony, not From
>Souls is tied up in other company's IP and publishing rights
>Souls does not add or expand the development capability, since From is relying on Sony's team for providing engines
>There are TONS of competitors, including Bandai with Code Vein, that are starting to sell equal or better than souls with less risk, reaching market saturation
>They now have the size of the team where making multiple games simultaneously is possible

They need to do 2 things to avoid failing as a company:
1. Diversify the skill of their developers, and have projects for new team members to work on in a low-risk environment.
>multiple games a year with different development teams
>smaller, lower-stakes projects that can ride on existing marketing
>more variety in their game engines and platform releases (more PC, Switch, etc. releases)

2. Diversify and internalize the sales and marketing to different audiences, to cross-pollinate sales.
>new genres, global marketing instead of through-publisher marketing, direct distribution
>more self-published games, helping publish other studio's games
>internalized skills to avoid needing publisher devs (like Studio Japan or Namco's Developers) to port and translate games

More souls doesn't achieve any of that. A from-scratch reboot of AC, even if it doesn't sell a lot, will help the company with all of those things. It's an established name brand, but with low expectations so they are ripe to offer experimentation and diversification of gameplay away from souls, which brings them new customers and cross-pollination of sales. The end result is a company that can negotiate with publishers without being fucked over on every deal, because they have their eggs in more than a single basket.
>>
>>182291867
Interesting. I'll definitely check that out. need to do some research on which games to get. What's your favorite AC game?
>>
>>182285880

Look at Valve, Bethesda, Square, Konami, EA, Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Capcom. All of them have their main money-making franchises, but they are constantly diversifying their games so that they have new marketing methods, new game engines, new test beds for employees, and new creative work being done. It's because

Why would X company Make Y game if Z game is selling so well?
>Bethesda, Wolfenstein, Skyrim
>Valve, Team Fortress, Half Life
>Ubisoft, Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed
>Square, Nier Automata, Final Fantasy XV
>Bandai, Code Vein, Tekken 7
>Nintendo, Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 2
>Capcom, Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7
>Konami, Metal Gear Survive, Pro Evolution Soccer

Because they are smart and enjoy not going bankrupt from oversaturating their market and losing relevancy.

Most people recommend starting with AC3 or AC nexus. AC3 is really good about easing you into the difficulty, Nexus is a bit more modern and controls better though.

My favorite is last raven, but it's brutal for a first-time player.
>>
Any anons have some basic coding experience?

I'm thinking it would be helpful to make a quick install program that would let players drag/drop the PSP workaround cheats and various control schemes into the PPSSPP install folder for people who don't want to manually copy/paste the cheats or can't find them online

It would just need to create a few text files in a few different folders (graphics, controls, and cheat settings for each AC game) based on what the person selects from a dropdown list.

It's part of the wrapper used for the game's port. Apparently the bleach PSP ports have the same problem. Some piece of PS2 code or something that the PSP knows to ignore but the emulator doesn't. Too few games require the workaround for them to put it into the actual emulator, since it might mess with other games, so they just expect you to figure it out yourself.

(ACVD) I decided to try something new today. Getting a string of Ds on my lightweight machinegun AC despite performing pretty well started gritting on my nerves and I decided to go for a completely different builld - that one hi power laser rifle (the one with 12 shots), the toughest shield I could find and that reserve magazine that gives 80 extra shots. Managed to stay under the load limit for the same lightweight frame I always use and tried it out.

Aced a few previously D-ranked missions and had a pretty hilarious time bullying a bunch ACs. It's pretty terrible in non-duel missions, though. It takes about as long to kill a chopper as it does to kill those big shielded MTs.

Trying to figure out how to beat the mission vs Charis with this build - that one sniper that comes with (literally) an aircraft carrier's worth of mooks. Bringing a dumbass UNAC doesn't help much since the repair costs for it alone crash me into the negative hundred thousands.

Fun level: Very

I literally had the idea just now to maybe store that 120 ammo handgun as a bay unit. I still had a very slim leeway in load cap, if I remember correctly, and that actually might do the trick, since that would also get the +80 shots.

I must say, I'm a bit miffed that you can't switch a shield with a bay unit whenever you like. That would have made for some interesting hijinks.

fun things about LR's stats:

Stagger is stored as a small variable (ranging from 1 to 256) and there's some modifier on it, but very low values are enough to exceed even the highest stability in the game. It seems like a value of 13 is what small grenades are set at by default, and anything over ~15 or so will stagger even the highest stability parts. I'm guessing that it's a modifier of 1000, so 13 stagger = 13000 stability to resist.

Muzzle velocity is stored as a floating point value (weird!) and I haven't figured out the conversion yet. Syakatsura missiles (which are super slow, the same speed as the large missiles) fire at 3.5 velocity. Regular rifles are 10.3 velocity, and high velocity weapons are at 13 velocity. But the weird thing is that while 3.5 and 10.3 are a HUGE difference, 10 to 30 seems to not make less of a difference, so I'm assuming it's some multiplicative scale. 30 feels "fast", like VD rifles, so I'm guessing those are going to be around 350-400 m/s. Default speeds feel "slow" and I'm guessing they're around 200-250 m/s. I'm going to need to do more testing to figure out a conversion rate.

Also, setting rifle shots to missile speeds looks absolutely beautiful, with all these slow-moving, brightly colored beams of light arcing forward. I think I might make pulse guns a low-velocity weapon for the sole purpose of showing this effect off.

Shot spread is an interesting one. There's TWO floating point variables for shot spread, which seems to apply to the max vertical and horizontal angles that the shots will fire at. Guns have the same value no matter what for both, implying a circle, but missiles actually have different values, so I'm guessing that's how they control the firing angle of missiles. This means that for missile parts I can affect the firing angle to make them more/less accurate along with the shot speed.

I missed the deadline for the anniversary to show off a gameplay video, but I'm working on one now.
>>
>>182336219
stagger seems to work like dark souls 1 poise too, in that its a modifier that affects the number of frames that you can't perform actions.

I'm guessing that 13 stagger means 13 frames of inaction, sufficient stability "deactivates" all stagger below that threshold.

I think linear guns require ~6000 stability to resist, so I bet if I crack open those files we'll find that their stagger value is 06 or 07, something like that.

So, I got into this general by mistake, but I saw this pic and I remembered I played this exact game, and how hard it was for me
I got stuck in a mission for a boss battle against the mecha on the picture
Anyone know what Im talking about? I promised myself to beat it when I was young, but I eventually stop trying
Any advuce?
>>
>>182338675
The missile launchers on the big extended arms are the weak points (and also the most dangerous thing you have to destroy) but they can only be destroyed when opened and about to fire.

The game really isn't that hard (at least by the franchise's standards) but that mission isn't very well explained where the boss weak points are.

It's important to the story and is one of two mandatory major boss battles to finish chapter 1. In that way, it's a noob filter and is the first "real" boss battle of the game, the missions before it are still mostly tutorial style. There's 4 chapters and 37 missions total.

Spoiler image shows the progression path through the missions, if you want to see those, but there are some plot spoilers in terms of what the missions are named.

Oh man, even cooler findings:

So I originally thought that FCS stats would be the average or max lock on, and then modified by weapons. Turns out, Average Capture and Max Capture AREN'T ACTUAL STATS. They're formulas based on each FCS's unique weapon pairing stats, so that means that each FCS has a DIFFERENT penalty for using certain weapons, even if technically those penalties are close enough you don't notice

Murex lists a max capture of 16 with an average of 12, but the real numbers are:
> 366, 14, 13 (standard)
>315, 16 15 (WS)

There's also another number afterward, which I'm not sure of.
>60 (STd)
>34 (WS)
>36 (ND)
>36 (SPC)

I think it might be a lock time modifier, I have no idea though. The FCS in last raven is a lot more sophisticated than I originally gave it credit for, though.
>>
>>182341190
whoops, forgot the whole table

Murex lists a max capture of 16 with an average of 12, but the real numbers are:
> 366, 14, 14, 13, 13 (standard)
> 315, 16, 16, 15, 15, (WS)
> 555, 08, 08, 07, 07, (WS)
> 533, 10, 10, 09, 09, (WS)

it makes the ND penalty even more obvious too, looking at it. ND is nearly a 60% lock size decrease over standard, and is half the size of WS.

This means I can create "horizontal" FCS that are also WS type, instead of special, or a ND FCS with a wide lock on but heavier penalties for using non-ND weapons.

What is the Arms Reaction Speed and Energy Supply stat in AC3 and SL for exactly.
>>
>>182379583
If I remember correctly, reaction speed is how quickly your arms adjust aim for a moving target (leading), and energy supply is a percentage modifier for laser blade damage.
>>
>>182379821
Are the differences too small to be noticeable for the Reaction speed? I've honestly didn't see much difference between the one with 400 and 1400.

Although I also have a suspicion that the smaller value is the actually better one.
>>
>>182380262
I think it's most noticeable with machineguns, but you're likely right in that smaller value is better.
>>
Quick question, is there anything I miss by playing OG AC3 over AC3P?
>>
>>182380420
The guide only mentions blade performance, so if these assumptions are correct both the stat comparisons and guide are wrong.

AC3 Reaction speed = ACLR aim adjust time. It's a modifier on how fast lead distance changes when the enemy changes direction. It's really noticeable with rapid fire weapons because you can see the actual delay in the stream of fire, however the stat is more for large weapons. If you pay close attention with slow weapons, you can see the "jump" of the arm as they adjust to the opponent's direction changes after lock on, and those jumps take longer to happen if your aim adjust time / reaction speed is low.

The same stat in AC4 is called Maneuverability.

>>182380484
Better graphics, a few missing parts and arena enemies, widescreen.

But OG AC3 has a better framerate (30 NTSC instead of 30p), despite being a lot less efficient.
>>
>>182382678
I really wish we had gotten dual arm weapons at some point, instead of just weapon arms.

>>182382729
This is what I do:

Postprocessing shader: Off (if you use AA it does mess up the text)
Rendering Res: Nx PSP
Upscale Level: Nx (use the same number always)
Window Size Nx (again, same number)
Deposterize: Off
Anisotrophic filtering: 16x (or 8x if that's too cpu heavy)
Texture Filtering: Auto

I think what messes up the text is using postprocessing or having a rendering resolution that doesn't match the texture or window size.

Also, sometimes after you change settings, the text will be messed up but if you let it sit for about ~30 seconds or so it will fix itself, probably to do with having to re-scale all the textures at once when you change settings, instead of one at a time.

it appears as if heady stability has no effect on stagger in ACLR, which is quite weird.

Not sure what head stability does affect, actually, since the description says it affects impact. Maybe it affects the duration of the stagger, but not whether or not you are actually staggered?

I'm only able to look through the machine code, so something like that would be extremely hard to find without a source code, its not like a PC game where the file system is mostly accessible. It's highly compressed.

However, I'm sure that first person mode is accessible, since it's in the other PS2 and PSP games.

What I have mostly found so far are stats and properties of parts in the game, and then manually tested various values for them. They're easier to find because their values are often listed in-game.

The first season is better than the second and third. The second season is sloppily written, but has some crazy hype moments and introduces the other half of the cast and has some pretty important plot moments. The third season has an amazing start, flounders in the second half, but is important because it introduces a new kind of enemy and develops the characters a little more. The current season is looking to be pretty good, has had some very consistently hype moments, has better action choreography, and doesn't look like it's going to blunder too much on drama, but it's too early to tell.

Even if we don't get a new Armored Core, we shouldn't fret. This industry is rife with new beginnings and rebirths. For all of us who loved Harvest Moon, we didn't need a brand name to live on. I don't need a new AC game, but I need a new game that handles gameplay and difficulty like AC does.

Way too many mech games have you play the same basic mech and then just "upgrade" from +1 to +2 or obtain some new weapon without tradeoffs. That, or they're multiplayer focused and you are stuck with certain classes and perks, without a lot of room for customizing the actual game mechanics.

In that way, games like Gran Turismo, Dark Souls, or Nier Automata feel more like AC games to me than Titanfall, ZoE, or Gundam because in those games, like AC, changing your stats and options will TOTALLY change the gameplay and customizing is how you improve, rather than just doing story tasks.

I want
>fast paced third person shooter
>sci-fi or post apocalyptic themed game
>no leveling up, linear upgrades, or standard difficulty options
>each customization choice means sacrificing something else, including control scheme
>changing your options completely changes gameplay in a granular level, not class-based

Outside of AC, I haven't found a game like that. Almost every third person shooter or mech game lacks any customization whatsoever (or it's just "flavor" customization like perks, which doesn't actually change controls/gameplay) or the customization is just buying linear upgrades as you go through the story.

so I think I've figured out stagger:

The binary value for a weapon's stagger refers to the number of frames that the weapon staggers for, and *108 for the stability you need to block it.seems like From's solution to preventing stunlock with non-heavy weapons was to just simply make them lack stun power whatsoever. Head stability has no effect on stagger or speed, so I have still no idea what it does.

So for this I think what I'm going to do is establish a formula for "Stagger DPS" so that weapons will do the same amount of stagger over time to prevent stunlock. So a weapon with 60 reload time and 500 attack power has twice the impact force of a weapon with 30 reload time and 250 attack power. And then to get a higher stagger DPS, you increase the weight of the weapon.

So right now, stats are about:
>7 frames / 756 most weapons and below (always blocked)
>10 frames / 1080: Sniper Rifles (usually blocked except by lightweights)
>16 frames / 1720: Small Grenades, linear guns: (blocked by heavies only)
>25 frames / 2700: Plasma, large grenades (staggers everything)
Light: ~900-1300
Mid: ~1300-1700
Heavy: ~1700-2600

And I will change it to:
>3 frames / 324: Machine Guns (always blocked), Pulse Guns
>5 frames / 540: Handguns
>7 frames / 756: Ast Rifles / Laser Rifles
>10 frames / 1080: Rifles (blocked by mid or above)
>16 frames / 1720: Burst Rifles
>21 frames / 2229: Sniper Rifles (blocked by heavy or above)
>30 frames / 3240: Linear Guns, small grenades (always staggers)
>40 frames / 4320: Laser cannons
>50 frames / 5400: Plasma, large grenades (staggers everything)
Light: ~400-1000
Mid: ~1000-2000
Heavy: ~2000-3000

So that way most weapons will have some stagger unless you're a heavy. This, along with the faster muzzle velocity, lower acceleration, longer lock times, wider FCS, faster turning, and higher overall damage and part breaking should make it a much more strategic experience with a lot less "boost hop and hold triggers" and more planning.

Some of the reveal of the orca ending shows that Collared and Orca were working together for the most part, Otsdarva was Thermidor, and Orca was a ploy by collared to control and destroy any rebellious NEXTs (like white glint) when it seemed the arms forts weren't succeeding at that.

When you go down the orca path, Thermidor /Otsdarva ends up actually believing his own cause and you go "too far" and actually destroy the satellites, so collared stops playing around and sends their best to actually come kill you and thermidor. They end up failing, having created a monster (You and ORCA) beyond their control.

When you go the collared route, you go down the "intended" path and defeat the orca rebellion by killing all the ORCA ACs, including thermidor, protecting the cannons and eliminating all opposition to Collared's control.

If you go the destruction route, you mess up BOTH their plans, so they drop the charade entirely and send every AC on the planet to go after you. If you fail, I would guess that the logical result is you and old king die, and Collared/Orca are exposed as collaborators to the world, with the cradles having now crashed, forcing humanity to be set back hundreds of years and probably no longer relying on ACs for warfare anymore.

the 20 range ones are rather unreliable because its really easy to not be within the AoE.

This game is my favorite psp game, it's a true hidden gem. Play the sequel though and not the original, it has a lot more polish and you don't have to play the one before it if you're worried about story or something.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. I actually think this was the dev flagship for PPSSPP, and they even have a 60fps hack. That and Monster Hunter Freedom / Portable 3rd.

Both have online coldbird servers just like AC does.

Other PSP exclusives I'd recommend were Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, and The Third Birthday (Parasite Eve 3) and God Eater Burst.

>dodge

If you use the right parts (stealth, decoys, ECM, and high vs missile core) you can just stand in the corner and beat the whole mission without having to dodge. I love AC for shit like that.
>>
>>182499161
Use scan mode. The main thing to dodge is his missiles, the rest you can block by just having high KE defense. A KE shield also trivializes most of his attacks.

The easiest way to cheese it is to use dual shoulder mounted KE rockets, which will knock away ~50k AP from him every time they land, and you can bait his blade and AoE attack to land them.

Sand the areas of armor around the joints, so they don't scratch the paint once your completed. I'd also recommend checking out the guide on /m/'s gunpla generl for help. Also, how much did you have to shell out for that Cascade Range, I've been trying to find a decently priced one for ages.

I think the main concern is that there's nothing really -stopping- the FCC from doing this. It's just a 2-1 vote (2 republicans, 1 democrat) on the board (2 seats are vacant), none of which are elected officials. There's no mechanism for the public to have a voice in what is being done other than protest.

The change being proposed is to remove internet's status as a "Title II" (general utility, like phone lines) service, which goes back to the pre-2015 world where if the cable company decided to throttle your speeds, you had to sue them yourself. Otherwise, they could block your access or throttle your speeds for whatever reason. Most people are afraid this is going to become the norm, and they will do it to make more profit.

If it does pass and the rules are removed (and not just immediately reinstated in 2018 or 2020) then what will probably happen is that you will get half speeds on sites like 4chan, slowing them down to a crawl unless you paid more for a faster or wider-reaching internet package. Most people (who only use google, amazon, twitter, etc.) will just see slightly lower prices, but everyone who uses the internet for sites that aren't major sites (especially research) will be forced to pay more and more for every page they visit outside of the "approved" pages, as a form of soft censorship.
>>
>>182589759
>>182590226
The problem is that any net-neutral provider is going to be more expensive than a non-net netural provider because they won't be paid by larger corporations for preferential treatment. That's how comcast plans to make money on this (and they were already doing it before the rules were put in place, by accepting money from companies like HBO to block torrents of their shows).

Example:

Amazon pays comcast a ton of money to throttle the speeds of any non-amazon online store.

Comcast uses that money to slightly lower prices until they are lower than any net-neutral provider, and they then provide a "net neutral" package at the same price.

The net-neutral company goes out of business. Comcast buys their cable lines so that they are added to comcast's monopoly.

Comcast discontinues the net-neutral package until another provider comes along, but it will be even more expensive to do that since there are fewer cable lines for them to use.

Amazon profits, comcast profits, competition and consumers lose.

It's like a bad AC plot.

I just bought 4A (literally just picked up today), and I'm having a seriously hard time adjusting (zero previous AC experience).
I picked the third option as my starting NEXT, and I'm using the B controller configuration (I read somewhere that is more or less the best one). How should I approach the game? When should I boost and when should I not? Should I stop boosting while evading? Should I shoot with the left weapon while boosting, despite the fact that it's uncomfortable? (it is, but should the answer be yes I'll just suck it up and practice).

What I mean, what are the most obvious beginner mistakes that I'm probably making that I should avoid? Not asking with the goal to become a speed demon 3good5me pro 360 no scope, but just to play the game satisfactory.

Also, is the practice NEXT that hard or am I just flopping from my lack of experience?

>>
>>182591695
I use the vanilla configuration and have no problems with the controls.

Practice next isn't that hard if you're good at movement.

You should quickboost always if you have the energy for it but not to the point where you can't fly anymore from spamming it so much.

Also, you should always be firing your weapons, quickboosting doesn't affect it at all I believe.

You should get a low energy drain design with a low energy cost quickboosters and a high energy output generator like the aaliyah generators which are my favorite. Once you get better at the game you can start experimenting with a higher energy cost design.
>>
>>182590746
It's really solid software but I haven't used it that much so you're better off experimenting with it yourself and seeing if you like it. You can look up a guide on youtube for OBS on how to set it up at the start.

for answer is a high speed action game. you'll not only need to be able to parse and process information multiple orders of magnitude faster than your average action game but also have the dexterity required to adequately act/react to said information.
regular boosting should come as second nature. you hold down the boost button, and a direction, and you'll move in that direction. pretty obvious. doing this around an enemy while firing your weapons is called circle strafing. again, obvious, but i'm not sure how much experience you have with action games
one compromise i made when i started was to have high rate of fire/automatic weapons (ie. chaingun, assault rifle) on my AC's right side and low RoF/high power weapons (ie. missile, bazooka, shotgun, etc.) on the left. i'd keep R1 as the fire button for the automatic trigger holding weapons, and square for the powerful ones - that way, you won't have to use your left middle finger to boost, which is probably less comfortable to most people than using the index. L1 can then be mapped to something else like shoulder weapon or overed boost.
the disadvantage is that you have to take your thumb off of the aiming stick to fire your powerful weapons, but you can still comfortably focus on movement/evasion while holding down R1 this way. once you're good, switch back to default type-B and just practice your coordination.
as for movement in general, never stop moving. learn to keep your momentum going, ie. how to most efficiently change direction without losing speed. learn how to take off and land smoothly. don't fly too high. get to know your frame, how much vertical/horizontal boost it has, how heavy it is, etc. all these things subtly play into how your AC controls, and you'll eventually learn to compensate for your frame's shortcomings - a primary aspect of AC in general
movement is a fucking joy in for answer, i couldn't get over just fucking flying all over the place.
>>
>>182591695
Customize each control individually, don't use defaults.

Customize each part individually, don't use defaults.

ALWAYS be moving. Do everything at once. Attack with both weapons and shoulder, evade, boost, do it all at the same time. That's why each action has a dedicated button, so you can press them all at once.

Read EVERY stat. Don't just go for whatever has the highest attack power or defense. No part is better than any other part, it's about how you customize that determines your overall strength.

The practice NEXT is medium difficulty, you aren't expected to beat her until you're better at the game.

Figuring out how to control the mech and picking options that optimize that control is part of the game.

The secret to becoming an overpowered god in armored core has always been just learning what all the stats mean and practicing the controls. There's no other secret to it, if you read the information and try out everything, you'll figure out how to beat the game extremely easily.

For answer is probably the easiest and most approachable game in the franchise, so it shouldn't take much effort to get the hang of things and figure out what all the different strategies are.

The head slants forward at a hard angle, ending abruptly with a distinct point. Below the point is an opening, rectangular and with an eerie red glow, a sign that it can see you as much as you see it. A piercing reminder of the life and consciousness behind the light.
The underside of the opening retreats straight back to the neck, after which it widens into a formidable base that supports the entire head. This base plate builds up with a smooth curve, the roundness standing in stark contrast to the harsh angles of the front piece. At the crest is a single cylinder pointing away from the face, as much of a face as a metal thing can have, along the same steep angle as before.

it uses a lot of the same controls and mechanics that ACNX - LR did, but they sped the gameplay up much faster and added quickboost.

If you want more, go play Murakumo Renegade Mech Pursuit, which was kind of the spiritual predecessor behind AC4.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EF3f69qNXg

AC4 was basically "how do we capture the feeling of Murakumo using ACLR's game engine?"
>>

>sped the gameplay up
you know, i looked into making AC3P 60fps in PPSSPP and apparently there's some sort of vblank method that when used speeds the game up

boosting will be an issue, maybe just cheat it

AC1 has you protecting a train, can't remember if there is a part
AC2 has you protecting a train, and you can steal the part (but fails the mission)
>>
>>182658529
Is the part worth it? I'm about to start AC2
>>

Save it until the end. It's the back booster extension.

Also enjoy the fact that AC2 is the last game where enemy ACs in missions don't use actual defense values.
>>
>>182660629
>enemy ACs in missions don't use actual defense values.
Nani, are you saying enemies were artificially beefed up?
>>
>>182661016
In the original PS1 games, and in AC2, ACs you fought in missions just had their normal AP values and didn't apply actual defense values, so they were much easier to kill (for example, the Arena Battle mission in AC1 took only 7 karasawa shots to kill the enemy, where it would take far more in a normal arena match). Starting in AC2AA, enemy ACs in missions used their normal defense values so it was like fighting them in the arena, making them actually a threat.

All AC games are programmed to run natively on 30fps. In fact, SO much of the game is tied to framerate that a 60 fps patch for PSP (which I looked into, like metal gear peace walker) would be damn near impossible unless you knew the source code.

Despite being programmed on 30fps:
>AC1/PP/MOA runs a consistent 24 fps
>AC2 /AA runs 5-25 dps depending on the mission
>AC3 /SL is 15-30
>ACNX/NB/LR is 25-30 and is the most consistent.
>The PSP ports are a solid 30 fps all the time.
>AC4 is a solid 25-30 unless you use certain weapons, then it drops to 5-10
>ACFA is 20-25, down to 5-10 if you use certain weapons
>ACV runs 20 on PS3 and 25-30 on 360 (PS3 did get a graphics patch I think to bump it to 360 levels)
>ACVD runs 30 fairly consistently on both

However, SOME of those framerate drops aren't hardware specific, they're code-specific, and will show up in emulation too. Most notably AC2's lagtastic missions, and any time you spam lots of misssiles in AC3.

It looks like whatever they did with NX changed it so that all the framerate drops were hardware only, because I've only seen consistent framerates emulating those, PSP included.

No idea if the framerate drops in AC4/FA are tied to graphics or code, but I'm guessing graphics.
>>
>>182666830
you're literally transformers
>>
>>182661403
This doesn't apply to the arena, they definitely have weaknesses for shell / EN and actual defenses, but in-mission it makes sense for AC2. AC2:AA I think the mission ACs play by the same rules since there's no arena.

>>
>>182671056
plasma, lasers, and stagger effects still hurt VD's framerate, but it's a lot less noticeable than FA.

>>182670504
Judging by BB and DS3, 60fps is not in their future. Both games run 45-50 FPS on PS4, and it's not just hardware, PS4 pro can't run BB at 60fps either.

The fact is that graphics and framerate (especially in PC gaming) are not a priority in Japan, so From doesn't really focus on them. Plus their code is shit, so the fps cap is much lower than for other games.

that mission with all the windmills in the crevice, arteria ulna i think it was... so awesome. shame you could do the mission in 12 seconds.
for answer - and i guess all of FROM games now that i think about it - is so hit and miss, but where it hits it hits the mark HARD.
movement i feel is kind of where V dropped the ball. sure, they were going for something different, obviously. but in FA i was having fun almost instantly, it is a dream to control. V did its own thing, and it was good once you got used to it, but it took a lot of time.
i wish mooks were tougher in FA, the level design is just so beautiful but the mission structure doesn't really allow for much sightseeing.
>>
>>182681864
ACFA movement is great from 3/10 to 8/10ths effort. But that last 9-10/10ths is awful and falls apart really fast when you try to be precise.

ACVD movement is great from 8/10ths and above when you're getting good at the precision attacks and prediction, but it's awkward and clunkier until then.

That said, I could get on a bit every here and there, but I'm not very confident I'll be able to get on tomorrow. It'd give you a week to push through story mode.

Because 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen games all had different part sets. 2nd generation games took place on mars with different corporations from those on earth, and I believe there is a pretty big time gap between 1st and 3rd gen games.

That said, a compilation game that had you play through a unified storyline starting with AC1 through the great destruction, then going to mars to deal with the Frighteners and the aftermath of Phobos, then returning to earth to free mankind from the controller and deal with that aftermath, and then the events of Nexus through LR, would be amazing.

You could remake AC1 through MoA and AC3 through LR using the same PS2 game engine and models. You could not remake AC2, since it's the only generation with wholly unique parts before AC4.

Here's a nice model I spent a lot of time creating and rendering, I think I'll add obnoxious glowing red and green borders to all the edges.

Upscale inside the emulator to full screen 1920x1080, with black bars on the top and bottom of necessary, then don't downscale your video at all.

You should keep the video the same resolution as the recording, and leave the upscale/downscale/positioning to the emulator.

Use screen capture instead of game capture, if you have to, to achieve that, or have it start recording in full screen only.

Just beat the mission in AC2AA where you get dropped on by two ACs at once (Eliminate the Search Team). Did it without H+, and finished with 20AP and no ammo left. I had to drop down from a building to blade the last MT so it didn't kill me when I rounded the corner.

Battletech and Mechwarrior aren't separate names due to copyright, they're literally the same series. Mechwarrior is a subset within the Battletech universe, there's no separation.
Mechwarrior gets its name from the jockeys who pilot the Mechs. Battletech has a big focus on the Mechs, but is a combined arms game.
Battletech PC is going to be based more around the tabletop game.
Mechwarrior 5 is going to be mercenary shenanigans like the majority of the rest of the Mechwarrior series.

Earth. You have missions at the earth government HQ, the earth-to-space elevator, and other earth-specific locations. I think the intro even mentions that Ravens were banned from earth until the events of AC2, then they slowly were allowed back. They also make a huge deal out of the disorders showing up in earth central because disorders are -from mars-.

Plus the biomes are much closer to earth with green grass, oceans, etc. In AC2 it was mostly deserts and indoor facilities.

Further Evidence: Zaltehook is an "Earth vs Mars" death match, where you are chosen as the EARTH raven.

The guy on the space elevator in the final mission (and the one who asks you to clear it) is a MARTIAN AC asking you to clear it because he believes that martian Ravens should be allowed back on earth.

There's probably more evidence but that's all I can think about right now.

every dollar you spend on any of the games made before 2005 (except for buying them through PSN or buying a direct JP copy re-release) doesn't go to From Software, it instead goes to third party resellers, so it won't support the franchise by just buying them.

From actually makes more money if you pirate the games, stream them, and convince people to buy V/VD instead, since it's the only one still currently being distributed wholesale, I think.

>>
>>183064756
>Just the Japanese PS2 copy. Does the PSP version have any enhanced features?

The PS2 version is the version you want. I think the different versions are:

>Formula Front (JP PSP) - Original version, Japanese only
>Formula Front Extreme Battle (US PSP) - Had some minor changes, added arena enemies english language only. Blue Nine Ball facing toward the viewer on cover.
>Formula Front (US+JP PS2) - JP release with the US arena enemies and allowed manual piloting. Blue Mirage AC sideways on cover. Dual language options.
>Formula Front International (JP PSP) - JP PSP release of the US PS2 version. Same cover as the JP PSP but with the word "International" Added below it.

I count the original and Extreme Battle as the same game, just released in different countries.

Might be worth tracking down a few ISOs of each version and testing them out on emulator before buying just to make sure which ones had manual piloting and the full arena..
