Spee is still Spee. Harekaze is a Kagero that can turn into an Akizuki with one less gun, 33% less HP, but far better maneuverability, concealment, and torpedoes. The other two layouts aren't so great: one is a stock Kagero and the other has only 3 guns with such low health that they break all the time. That third layout is good if you don't have a captain ready to make use of the 100mm though.
They both can use regular captains from their nations, not just the anime girls, and they come with a free exp modifier on their camos. So if you didn't get the Spee the first time or want a gun/torp hybrid IJN DD, they're probably worth it. EU has missions listed but not NA, so who knows what's up with that.

Since the introduction of smoke-capable CA, maps have become a boringly filled with fog, and basically it's cruisers and destroyers sitting in them doing either nothing, eating torps, eating BB alive from their magic clouds, or all the above.

There was a brief period of BB saturation because WG gave away Bismarck like candies, just to release the Enterprise that directly counters them, so now CV seem back in full force being even more cancerous than ever, thanks to the publicity brought by the aforementioned premium CV.

Other than that, the game didn't change much.

This thread on the other hand was literally flooded by shitposters and circlejerkers, very probably the same that ruined /wotg/ at the time: as you can see from the OP, and the constant use of this thread as a private forum that drowns the discussion about the game, and scares away regular posters. I suppose it's due to the summer.

Blowing my mind here. As an Akizuki that can get down to 5.5km concealment and has the speed, turning, and profile to avoid taking damage, it's a very capable ship. The turret and health it sacrifices are offset by the torpedoes which allow it to remain a constant threat even while never firing. You shouldn't win an outright gunfight against a specialized gun DD, but you will always outspot them and can deal a surprising amount of DPS. It's a rare aggressive IJN DD. The other two hulls really aren't worth mentioning.

Complete bullshit. The Italian soldier's morale was actually pretty high and they were eager to fight. But due to poor equipment and even poorer leadership it was all blown away. It's hard to keep morale high when more than half of your artillery shells are duds and your officers order you to attack heavily fortified enemy positions head-on. There are numerous examples of Italian units surrendering not due to cowardice, but due to having shot out all the ammunition, most of which was completely fucking useless anyway despite their accurate fire.

I'd argue that low morale was mostly a result of bad high command, anemic logistics and the equipment troubles. The single worst thing that can happen to an army is if teh common soldiers think their own commanders are incompetent.
The only reason why teh red Army was able to survive such a scenario was because they could retreat, and train up new formations.

Also, German logistics were actually terrible. The Heer used WAY too many differetn types of guns and tanks, if a division was motorized (few were) they used dozens of differnt types of trucks (with zero commonality of parts, just like the tanks and guns)

They changed that by 1943, and if the war had gone on they'd have mostly managed to unfuck their shit in 1945, with actual standardization on one type of vehicle for each role.

Just so you know sts plate IS armor qualjty steel BUT WoWs does not factor it in. If it did the main belt would be about 20 to 23 mm thicker in most areas as would many framing areas.

Sts plate is armor plate that has the ductile ability to support its own mass or greater (where kca does not) but is difficult ie expensive/time consuming to doen mass and so the US was the only nation to use it for greater then 30% structural/support steel.

That said sts should not be counted as it is a slippery slope to taking armor qualities into account.

It wasn't designed to stop a shell, it was used as backings to regular KCA. That said, two things:
1) If you had 305mm of STS it would provide essentially identical protection to 305mm of KCA, it would just 5 times as long to produce and cost about 20 times as much to produce.
2) If you had only 20mm of KCA you wouldn't stop anything but splinters either. Really STS in the context of a USN BB (and I believe Baltimore/Cleveland CA/CL's) armor is really just adding essentially an inch of armor to the belts. So a 12 inch belt (305mm) tuns into a 13 inch belt into a 330 mm belt.

So, for example, the Iowas had 307 mm of KCA armor in their belt, the same thickness seen in game. but was in reality mounted with a 22.2 mm STS plate backing (they do the same thing on other BB's in reality, just instead of it being STS it's structural steel which provides diminishing returns in protective strength (it's usually a 1/5 comparative ratio of KCA to Structural steel, so 100 mm of KCA is ABOUT equal to 500 mm of Structural steel with obvious diminishing returns at excessively large thicknesses)) for a total of 307 + 22.2 = 329 mm or about 13 inches. Does this make a difference? Well in real life, yes, quite a bit. In game? Armor is a joke because lack of immunity zones. So adding STS plate would be a bad idea as it would encourage adding in other 'armor qualities' which is a dangerous road.

Read the last sentence of my post. I say specifically, "Adding STS plate would be a bad idea," as it is less adding of an extra inch of protection to specific USN ships, but rather adding a feature to the game in the form of 'armor quality,' where you start taking into account materials science into 'armor thickness,' would starts dredging up a lot of pseudo-political issues like IJN Armor quality vs. German Armor quality vs. Soviet Armor quality vs. USN armor quality. And the reality of history, materials science, and facts show that 305mm of any combination/type of armor from one of those navies may be, in a practical sense, be worth more or less than 305mm of armor on another ship. This genuinely would be the 'over complication' wargaming is so afraid of. and the already annoying b.s. of 'this nation is better than this nation,' jingoist bullshit would reach a fever pitch.

Now with all that said, there are problems with the armor model of the USN and RN ships that *does* need to be rectified that exist purely because wargaming is lazy. Specifically, that USN Armor did not consist of 'bands' of armor thickness, but rather a smooth changing of thickness top to bottom along the belt. Additionally, T-Shaped Citadels piss me off. They have already shown with ships like French CA's that they are willing to include the 'dead' space between the citadel belt and the actual area where the citadel cits (i.e. boiler rooms/magazines/engines ect). The NC did not have anything 'vital' in the wings of that 'T' right along the citadel armor and should be handled the same as most other BB's that have a fully internal Citadel. There are many other ships that need that corrected as well. A great many CA's suffer this.

And yes, I agree that the haphazard way with which WG designates what is citadel and what is not needs to go.

They have to use a consistent formula as a baseline, and then add changes that are needed for balancing reasons.
Ultimately, the game will forever suffer from the borked ballistic compression, and I see ne way out of this design dilemma.


Regarding the armor setup (gradual changes), WoT has shown that WG can do a good job of aproximating this. In some cases it took them two or three iterations of the hitbox to get there, but the engine can handle it.

Get rid of citadels as a headshot mechanic, make 33% penetrations the 'hardest' hit, reduce firechance/fire DOT, and increase damage angles (as in, decrease autobounce angle, increase, across the board, normalization) and change citadel hits to guaranteed debuffs (engines/ruder/reload debuff) . Topredos are fine *now* under this proposed change. Now damage comes more consistently, but in fewer spikes. CA's don't get deleted, BB's don't benefit from sitting at max range sniping (as instead of 1 out of 9 hits maybe being a 11,000 HP citadel hit, that 1 out of 9 is just a 3300 normal pen) and benefit from closing range to take advantage of increase accuracy up close. Now armor 'matters' a little more, but damage is more consistent but less spiky and thus forgiving.
