As Team Sonic or Dark there is a switch you have to press to disable the laser gate. The locations are different for those two teams, but they're both on pinball tables and very difficult to spot. You can also abuse invincibility frames from damage along with the Rocket Accel to bug your way past the lasers.

As Team Chaotix, you can just go invisible with Espio and walk through the lasers. Team Rose's level ends before this section appears.

Well, between the inclusion of Classic Sonic, it being a Modern Sonic game in a time where the "Sonic was never good meme" is popular, & certain sections of the fanbase not really caring for Boost, it's not surprising. That being said, looking at YT the Forces vids have more likes than dislikes & vids like the one that shat on Forces that was posted a few threads back has been disliked to hell. I think when it's all said & done, the game won't be "another 06 or Rise of Lyric or worse than both," but it will be a game that people either like or don't.

I think a big reason for the comparisons is because as soon as Mania dropped, they revealed that Classic will be teaming up with Modern again in the then Project 2017. Sega's gone on about how the two games are meant to appeal to different groups of the fandom, but Forces is clearly trying to appeal as broadly as possible, including the people who are targets of Mania. So the whole 'two cakes' deal has put the multiple kinds of play styles Sonic has had over the years back into the spotlight.

Well, let's go through the choices. Classic Amy could definitely be possible. There's Bean and Bark, Ray the Squirrel, the Chaotix with a Mighty skin for Sonic, Metal Sonic, Eggman, and that's it. Unless they get creative and Classify(?) Modern characters which I would be down with.

I think that if Amy were to be playable again, she could be the hard mode. Since Mania gave Sonic the Drop Dash, Amy's Piko-Piko Hammer could bring back the Insta-shield, being mechanically identical to it, just with a hammer coat of paint. Take away the ability to Spin Dash, let her attack with her hammer like in Adventure 1 to jump. I do think, however, that she should be able to curl up into a ball when jumping and rolling, like the other characters. The classic games are kinda all about being a ball, and I could never really like that aspect of playing as Amy in 2D games. I get Amy is a hard mode in Advance, but I think that can be achieved while still being loyal to how the core game plays. Basically make her the Sonic from Sonic 1.

I read an article in a game magazine years back about how Rockstar split up their dev time on GTA San Andreas. For them, adapting the engine, adding new characters and features and even making the story and cutscenes wasn't the longest part of game development - it was the coding of the individual parameters and any A.I for each mission. Maybe its different for other developers though.

I'd start by inventing a time machine and going back to when development started on Forces and Mania. I'd mandate that Mania be entirely 100% original levels with more zones than S3&K combined, with Forces being entirely boost with Sonic, Shadow and Blaze being playable. What function do you even want enemies in Sonic games to serve?

I know people don't like the health bars in Heroes and how you sometimes have to kill a group of enemies to unlock doors, but in boost games the basically serve the same roles as springs or rings since you just jump on them to take a higher path or run into them to fill your boost meter. They're more tools for Sonic to utilize than opposition.

Being perfectly honest I think it's because of the different goals.

Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles are more about finishing the stage and collecting rings.

Sonic adventure 1 and 2 are more varied so enemies tend to be different levels of dangerous depending on who you are and what your goal is. There's also a focus on destroying robots to collect animals and material for chao.

Heroes is closer to the genesis games, although it's more focused on staying alive so that you can keep your upgrades and taking out hordes of enemies which is why they have health bars.

The boost games are more about getting through as quickly and flawlessly as possible so most enemy placement is streamlined so they're in your way. Either leading you to different paths or as a punishment for going too slow.

I want them to be legitimate obstacles to overcome. If enemies exist for the sole purpose of boosting and/or homing attacking into them for boost meter, then they serve no purpose and could be easily replaced with a boost capsule and a spring. Enemies should challenge the player in some way instead of just being glorified scenery.

I gotta say I think the worst thing about the boost era games is tails. He shouldn't be so snarky. Like having "attitude" works for sonic but when tails does it it just makes him look like a brat. I liked how they were handled in Adventure 2. There's a good mix between them being glorified springs and actual threats. Metal Harbor is a good example of the former and Crazy Gadget and Cannon's Core being the latter. If you were in a section where there were a lot of enemies such as those shield robots and artificial Chaos, you would need to time your jumps just right to avoid getting hit but you still don't have to stay in that section for too long. You would come to standstill but that usually never lasts for more than a second. Even when you have to deal with enemies, you feel like you're going somewhat fast and making progress.

Basically, I'd like it if enemies could be threatening and actually be able to kill you, but I'd like to be able to be able to beat them quickly if you can time everything just right. If I'm playing as Sonic I don't want to have to sit in one spot waiting/attacking for more than a few seconds. Think orbonaut and that praying mantis guy who shoots his scythes at you. If you don't want to get hit, you have to wait and dodge their attacks, but not for TOO long. That's basically what I want. I don't want every enemy to be like that, maybe just one in each beginning level but more in the final stages.

I think the Mario series definitely needs enemies. If there were no enemies, the games would be too easily. Every jump would be trivial. Just back up, take a running start, and do it. Enemies mix this up. They move back and forth, swoop towards you, and so on. They add randomness to the mix. When you need to perform a jump over a pit or something and there's an enemy near you, you're constantly thinking and recalculating your path in your head as you figure out what to do as you watch them move about. Do you risk getting killed to beat them and make the jump easier? Or do you just dodge them and try your best to make the jump? As you play through the games yourself you might not realize it but you're constantly thinking and reevaluating your situations. To me, that's the most important part of the game. It's a very active experience.

Do other platforming games need enemies? Honestly it's hard to say. I absolutely think the 2D Sonic games need them, mainly for the same reason as Mario does. But do the 3D ones need them (besides Heroes and Boom)? I feel like I'm autopilot when dealing with enemies in the 3D Sonic games. They are almost always just moving springs that you home onto. Sometimes they shoot lasers or shock you but that's rare. Every enemy is trivial to deal with thanks to the homing attack. The games wouldn't feel much different if they were replaced with actual springs in my opinion

I used to think so, but after going back to it I grew to like the cores. It kinda makes you approach battles diffrently. Like if I had 3 cores for flying formation I could essentially take out an entire room with thunderhshoot alone. If you have all 3 cores with speed then you can create tornados just by doing homing attack. So by the time you level anyone up to level 3 you become so OP you can just smash through a level with ease. And it's a good way of punishing you for dying.

And that's the problem, especially with how barebones Buddy looks. Say autism bucks all you want but the customization character looks dry as fuck and leaves a lot to be desired to the point where can't even put something like markings on a character, and I don't want that to be the game's only defining factor if it's not in-depth as, say, Pokemon Sun and Moon. I don't that game to only be remembered as "DUDE COLDSTEEL LMAO," I want it to have more 3D than the past post-Colors games, more open levels, vibrant and varied locations, musical variety that actually has some weight to it unlike Park Avenue and Fist Bump, and a surprisingly decent story that actually follows the Adventure tone they were talking about, because It currently feels like Forces is being too ambitious while playing it extremely safe at the same time.

Honestly, it's hilarious to me just how out of place Classic feels in Forces right now. I like Modern's stuff, I even think the idea of an average citizen standing alongside the heroes in the form of Buddy is pretty neat, but right now Classic just feels like so tacked on & it's really dragging down the focus of the game. Critically speaking the bar is set kind of low score-wise for professional reviewers with Generations and Colors at a 77 and 78 and Unleashed is in the 60's. However, users find the games more entertaining and the score averages out above the critic scores. I'm basing this off Metacritic.

I do hope both succeed, though. While there are legitimate concerns such as the depth of the OC creator and the quality in general, I'm happy that Sonic Team is actually doing something "new" while working off of a familiar play style. And I love that both classic and modern are getting games.

I really didn't expect the Laser Blaster to be so difficult to figure out shape-wise, but the low-poly model just really doesn't give the best impression when trying to make an HD-ish model.

Anyway, I'd better dump the Cybernik stories.

Shortfuse the Cybernik was an OC Fleetway character written by Lew Stringer. Despite being OC, I was always impressed by how naturally the character fit into the cast of 1990s video game mascots. He really felt like something you'd see on a game gear or genesis, despite being an exclusively Fleetway creation.
(I'll be an entire issue before we get to see him properly mind.)

Grimer and Robotnik's personal presence during the process would seem to place a natural limit on badnik production. Surely no more than the creation of 50-100 could be overseen in any given day. Well it goes beyond the outcome of the battle between good and evil in the hypothesis the latter won. Even though Knothole is a last pocket of resistance, Robotnik acts as he already won and exploits the planet as he wishes. (Ironically it's Underground which is the most ambitious about social matters by depicting Robotnik as a tyrant working with Mobian aristocracy instead of being a "roboticize everything") Yeah, there is of course no rigorous economical theory under which SatAM but this is a children's cartoon, which might push the kids to ask themselves these questions.

Sonic CD's bad future does something similar, where Robotnik tries to make his utopia but where his recklessness is his own undoing. Best example is Quartz Quadrant BF where the screen try to display Robotnik's face but are blurred.

In both cases, the implications of a victory of the "wrong side", usually taboo in kid entertainment, is put under the spotlight.

Most people will tell you no because it's a remake of SatAM and the prince/music part is ridiculous, but I had a better good time watching it, the idea of Sonic interacting with his siblings was fun and the kid me was really marked by some episodes (especially Art of Destruction and Three Hedgehogs and a Baby). Also Knuckles.

As mentioned earlier, Cybernik is a Fleetway exclusive OC creation, presumably designed by the artists Roberto Corona and John M Burns.

Can't make out the one at the very top, but the one right below is Ben Hunzeker. Bottom left are Rick Bryant and James Fry. Bottom right are Jennifer Hernandez, Jamal Peppers, Ryan Jampole, and "NYCC '14" because that cover is from the New York Comic Con 2014 so there's actually only 7 signatures, not 8. Hunzeker (helped on the con variant), Fry (pencils for backup story) and Bryant (inks for off panel) are the only ones who actually worked on that issue specifically, the rest have done work on Sonic and were probably just whoever was around at NYCC '14 to sign it.

The one at the very top might be Ian Flynn (lead writer) but I don't think he signs his name like that, and I can't think of who else it would be. You can probably just ask him on Twitter if that's his, and if not who it would be.
