Server location is decided depending on where the majority of players are from.
>What's a dmix?
A dmix, short for double mix, is when you gather 12 people to play 6s. It's friendly matches against each other, can be serious and/or unserious, although it's usually more fun when people aren't fucking about.
The usual go for dmixes are that once there are 6 players on both teams, one player says last to spec and everyone rushes to join spectator. Last 2 people to join spectator have to play medic, they battle it out and the winner gets to pick a player first.
The most common way to pick is to have players pick. Captain's pick exists too but it's pretty boring since it ends in one team being stacked more often than not. In players pick the person gets to pick a player when it's their turn, team takes turns picking. Classes are picked once everyone has been picked.
TL;DR it's a fucking 6s match

I get frequent lagspikes when playing TF2 on my laptop, like every 30 seconds or so the game freezes for a second or two, what's causing this? The game runs fine at a constant 60fps and 5 ping.

I'm using wifi but that shouldn't be the problem as every other online game runs without problems.

ultimately i like it but it has so many frustrating things about it i wouldn't actually recommend anybody get into it. there are many mechanics that require a great deal of skill to master which will keep you hooked for a long time, though along with being addicted to the game are enough bullshit things that will do nothing but frustrated you. it is a heavily team reliant game and you will lose no matter how good you are if your team is lacking. and the most frustrating thing about the game is rock paper scissors balancing where different characters have inherited bonuses against each other which is the whole reason you have to rely on your team so heavily, you cannot do everything but winning requires your team to do everything. and to top the shitcake the entire game is designed to give you things to complain about that you can blame on things other than yourself which is infuriating since everything feels out of your control. worth thinking about
