Looking at the readership poll results, it seems like most people agree that the Napoleon AAR was the best, which surprises me quite a lot since it had among the lowest readership and some clearly amateur writing. Wide consensus has the most recent AAR as the most well-written, but not the most popular.

Consensus also holds I should make the game harder for myself and that I should post concurrently with my updates, but the polls also show that the AARs which I took the most time prepping posts for (excusing HoI3, which was a clusterfuck) are considered the best-written.

With all this in mind I think I'm going to try a hybrid style next time, where I write some posts ahead-of-time but always write posts immediately after the events that precipitated them occur in-game, so everything's fresh, I always have the number and type of images I need, and I can micromanage the narrative more efficiently. I also want to institute a system of combined house rules and polling to keep the game challenging, the former to prevent myself from growing too strong too rapidly, and the latter to push me back down after I perform too well.

Still haven't decided on the next AAR fully, and I don't even know when I could do it. But I'm dying to do CK2 and I've all but decided that's what's up next, just have to pick out location and time period. I'm presently entertaining an Old Gods Lithuanian/Old Prussian tribal start but nothing is set in stone.

I highly recommend another CK2 AAR with HIP. Your greatest strength as a writer is writing believable and likeable characters.

Personally, if you plan on starting in 867, I recommend a Norse character. Sure, they've been done a lot, but they offer a lot of different opportunities other than the usual Scandinavia or Norse Britain playthrough. For example, I did a brief playthrough as Haesteinn of Nantes where I conquered Sicily and raided all of the Mediterranean. Migration runs are always interesting, so you could really choose any location and make it work.

Well, I don't find Lithuania very interesting desu. Prussia maybe, but Romuva isn't very fleshed out or interesting. If you really want to play in the Central European region, I recommend the Wends/Sorbs. Resist Germanization alongside your Czech brothers, possibly converting to Catholicism or some other religion along the way.

Another potential is playing as the Arpad dynasty and conquer Hungary as historical. However, rather than converting to Catholicism, you choose a different religion, like maybe Greek Orthodoxy or even Islam.

Again, another potential idea is playing as a Muslim Emir in Sicily and conquering Christian Italy. Andalusia works too.

I don't find Romuva interesting, either, but I do find the region Lithuania is in interesting. Marginal land pressed on both sides by groups which are likely to become far more powerful than you are. Conversion is always on the table, and really quite likely, but I can also migrate and convert elsewhere.

Either way there's almost zero chance of me keeping my original religion, Norse or Romuva, so the difference is one of religions primarily.

I've played games where I westernized an unciv and then still hadn't learned about Hussars over a decade later. I wish there was a time-based modifier to prevent that but there's not.

Last CK2 AAR I started in the late 12th century, and I was still overpowered by the beginning of the 14th. I think the better option is to make the house rules more robust, make the start more difficult, and lose wars when narratively reasonable to keep myself going. I almost certainly wouldn't be playing this game all the way through to the end, either, which helps. It would just be to the logical conclusion of the narrative, or to my defeat.

That's what I'm leaning towards, as I said, and I always use HIP. But whether that's what it'll actually end up as or not is a different story. I want to wait until the next DLC released and until HIP gets updated to it before I do some scouting and poking around (I haven't played CK2 in 10 months) to learn the new mechanics and see what's changed, especially if there are any map alterations.
