After playing through SW4-II stories and ~30 castle floors I think I miss more in-depth gameplay modes, like conquest in DW8 and Orochi 3 story mode with character interactions, rebuildable village, semi-random stages and all that.
Will Spirit of Sanada satisfy my needs? From what I saw and read, people like it a lot and the progression also has a village-like hub area. How is the game compared to SW4-II?

If you're on PS4, just get Empires. If you're on PC, give Sanada a pirate first, because it runs like ass compared to some of the other recent Koei ports, while looking worse.

I wouldn't say the character interactions are all that deeper, but I can see how you think that.
I always feel that Empires is always an example of two steps forward and one step back, with them removing the little details I like. I'll admit, Empires probably doesn't get a huge budget, but I'd still like some more cutscenes as looking through the list of them in SW4E feels a bit scant.
One of the things I liked most about DW7E was having the wife stand beside your throne if you were the ruler. It was such a small thing, but meant a lot. I also enjoyed the romance dialogue, but felt it was lacking a bit in 4E since they tend to be character specific. Since I always marry No, I never understood her dialogue until I played Nobunaga. I do appreciate that they still had them, unlike 8E where they were almost removed entirely.
I liked seeing her in front of my character before the marriage and thought it would continue on, but was disappointed that it wasn't.
I also kind of prefer the free officer system a bit more and think it worked great in 6E due to all the fancy titles you'd get.
On the other hand, I may also just be spoiled by RPGs where such things are given more focus.

I don't know. But I remember being ticked finding out that certain characters did have romance dialogue with you, but only if you were playing the actual pairing, like Zhenji and Cao Pi. There also seems to be dialogue for a special event, that only happens if you play said character.
This is why I said two steps forward and one step back. The games generally get better overall, but tiny details are removed that make it a little bit worse than the last one and they become very glaring for me.

I still think they should've waited till after DW8/SW4 to make WO3. Not just because of more characters, but even the returning characters generally look better in the later game(s) to me.
I'll probably like Musou Stars enough whenever I'll get to play it, but I don't like how much the art style clashes between the characters. If Orochi is finished and this is the new series going forward, then fuck.

In case of ROTK it mostly fills what seemed like empty mechanics/options before, and fixes debates. You can now also have children, since the PUK also puts the RPG aspects a bit higher.
In case of Ascension, it adds siege and naval battles, as well as new battle AI and battle objectives(making it probably the most interesting combat system yet), garden politics and the ability to play as officer.

No, it was released as a new version. At least in the west/on Steam.

RTK13PK is a regular expansion which added too much stuff to be listed, it's pretty much mandatory to enjoy the game.
Ascension is a rushed stand-alone re-release which takes all the SoI contents, adds some new more, and somehow manage to fuck up the game in the process.

Nah the anon is wrong. Not entirely, but its hyperbole. Ascension has one major flaw in its design and that is that the AI won't build/upgrade anything without ressources. And Koei didn't think this through in terms of AI trading, so it happens that often enough, the AI is still having level 1 holdings at the end of the game.
Not always, but often enough that it becomes an annoyance. Other than that its superior to SoI in every way. So its up to you.

Some events don't get triggered anymore depending on which character you pick (ex. you can't have Honnoji as an Oda character or Nobunaga himself) and playing as a subordinate completely fucks them up 9 times out of 10.
Also, stuff like being able to steal Masayuki at the start of every scenario doesn't make any sense.
They've removed some of the coalition commands too, but whatever.

Ascension has all the content of the original + more content, characters, portraits, the osaka campaign etc. Why would you buy less content? If you dont like retainer play, dont play as a retainer, the rest of the game still makes up for it.
The problems are neglectible and get blown out of proportion by autists. Mostly by those who can only play a game one specific way, if that way is altered they get butthurt that they have to adapt. I didn't provide any argument since the guy also didn't, so I guessed it would have been a waste of time.
Anyway, some of the main issues are these
1) It's almost entirely centered on a phone-game tier city building simulator which has nothing to do with the rest of the game and it's really, really bad.
2) You'll get the same exact experience and progression no matter which officer you pick (which kinda defeats the whole point of having officer play)
3) You can't affect historical event. Actually, you most likely won't get any event at all.

I've only played it on pc so i can't really compare it to the console version.
Graphically it's standard only there's a problem with shadows during the cinematics that make them extremely choppy.
When you're in the camp at the beginning of stages you'll also get a noticeable lag in your movements but it disappears once you actually start the stage.
And you have to manually input the controls for xbox/microsoft controllers but you only have to do it once.
Those are the only issues off the top of my head.

Hello, friends. I've taken a step back to correct my life, going back to western and eastern philosophy to LITERALLY and unironically learn about the world, the self, and virtue.
I am hoping to re-read the Analects, the Art of War, and the Tao Te Ching, as well as get through the I Ching, the Book of Five Rings.
I'm not too familiar about the Sengoku era so I will be trying to go through SoI, and from Nobuhide's beginning, I think I'm around the point where Nobunaga has captured the shogun, however, no new events seem to be triggering.
*Several questions:
1) Am I just fucked for the events? I remember hearing that things can and will get unhistorical but I should finish the game anyway due to unlockables.
2) What are some other PC-games and/or easy resources I can use to be on top of the Sengoku era along with the rest of eagg?
3) How much, if any, has learning about the 3K/San eras changed your life, your thoughts and behaviour?

Certain events need specific conditions, yeah. Like Motonari's death scene that would only show up if he was still daimyo at the time of death. It's up to you if you still wanna play. I recommend that you continue and get the rest of the events playing other scenarios that has Nobunaga as the daimyo

Video games aren't really substitute for books so I'm not sure what you're getting at there. Nobunaga's Ambition is about as 'accurate' a game could be that's available in English. There's also the Shogun series, which isn't really accurate (Geisha didn't exist in the 16th century, for example) but it's good even if it only focuses on warfare. They also use the correct naming order (i.e. Takeda Shingen) if you're anal about it.

Looks like crap, but the game was originally PS3 too, so it's still better than how most players experienced it (you get solid 60fps, full HD and more enemies on screen).

If you're playing only for the events, just follow the guide on the Steam community (unlock gallery items) and don't do anything else.
The best way to do it is to trigger all the events directly related to a scenario and then switching to the next one without completing it.

There are some decent historical tv series, but as for the games, SoI is the best you can get (Samurai Warriors is really full retarded when it comes to history).

I mean, even the slower characters in SW still hit more enemies and are faster than many "fast" characters in DW. And when they attack, they still drive forward, instead of being rather stationary as in DW.
It feels like in DW when I attack I'm hitting a couple of guys while my char is standing still, while in SW I'm hitting 50 while literally blazing through them. Its obviously exaggerated, but thats kinda the feeling I get.
Going back to DW from SW makes me feel like all the characters are wearing shoes filled with lead

Also, it isn't a "new ROTK" show. Its a drama about Sima Yi at Cao's court. And that's the whole show. Most of the cast members are popular drama/soap opera actors, so you get the idea what kind of show it is.

If you're asking movesets as in inputs, then no.
Its only light attack followed by strong attack across the board.
Pic related is the general idea. Character inputs differ pretty much only at the number of attacks you switch from light to strong to start an EX attack.
If you however refer to animations and feel, then the characters do feel different though. Two characters like Gan Ning and Zhang Fei feel completely different, and their attacks have completely different ranges and speed, etc.

When people refer to unique movesets, they're talking about not sharing the exact same light attacks, heavy attacks, etc.
Go to DW7 and play two characters with the same weapon and see how they have identical moves. Those are clones.
