What combos do I learn as gouki/akuma in order to succeed?

Most green players can sidestep long fireball times and tatsu/shoryu can only carry me so far.

Feels like some of the older combos in SF IV are not compatible with tekken due to 3d fighter.

Is learning him a waste? Should I spend this time learning a secondary character instead?

I prefer not to pick SS/A tier people because tier listing is stupid. I just want to have fun in the high green/low orange ranks.
