>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, OneShot, Age of Decadence, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy, Gone Home, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. Absorbed the /lite/ general some time ago.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in /vg/), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

The cards are based on a very fun universe.
Also lol at that ancient cult of knights that abandoned their nobility and humanity by putting their brains into carrots so they could pray to their dark god for thousands of years to eventualyl become him wearing a nuclear getup with pins.
Man Ittle Dew 2 had such good extra content.

Apparently Steam added some configuration to Steam Store that allows you to filter out some unwanted tags (too bad tags are useless)

I knew you could do that to discovery queue, but wasn't aware about this being a store feature until now

It's not because half of them are horror games, it's just because I don't wanna know if it ends happy or not.

bought one game already; the evil within(yeah i know its not well received but i like the genre/atmosphere). been waiting for a while on this one. allowing myself one more game this summer sale as i dont wanna empty my bank account.

im stuck between either:
icewind dale: enhanced edition(i have all the other infinity engine games) - $7,
sunless sea + dlc - $13
rain world - $12
sproggiwood + caves of qud bundle - $13

i cant decide which one i want, so if anyone would be so kind: first reply that ends in an even number decides which of the above i buy? have an egg for your troubles

Yes, I've played it, and I think it's one of the better just-an-RPG RPGMaker games. It has some bugs regarding how equipment works (basically armor is kind of useless I think?), one or two of the characters end up kind of useless to use, and the first part before you get to the third city is REALLY generic, to the point it might put you off if you don't know it gets way better afterward. But its strength is in its really solid writing, from character development to political/war intrigue, somewhat similar to a boiled-down Suikoden type of story. It also has a card game like Triple Triad that has its own game-long sidequest, but it actually makes sense and I found it more enjoyable than I'd thought.

I'd definitely recommend it, some moments are surprisingly gripping and impactful for what it is, just don't be put off by the "I want to be a hero!" generic beginning.

And also I'd recommend Exit Fate, that guy's other RPGMaker game, even more than Last Scenario. It's pretty much straight up homage to Suikoden 2 and I can't decide whether it actually surpasses it or not.
>>
>>180567229
None so far because I have bought a bunch of DLCs/soundtracks and a couple of shmups

I don't have any place for more games in my backlog unfortunately
>>
>>180569251

>>
>>180569371
No problem, always happy to shill SCF's two RPGs, great games overall.
>>
>>180567229
None so far because trails in the sky games are long and well worth the price and I wanted to finish this one before I finally play shorter games again.

And jesus christus this fight was something. I had to cast walls like never before because he can just hit my entire party for half health with one special move.

As much as it grives me, most of these complains are legitimate, especially the poor performance and the camera moving around. Sure, it's great for immersion, but fuck.
It would also be nice to see the enemies' Line of Sights, because, as you say, sometimes I manage to assassinate a soldier, and sometimes he turns around and arrest me.

Space Funeral used to get talked about here a lot, so it's not that unknown.

>Yeah that is the whole point.
Just because you do something bad on purpose doesn't make it not bad.
>Heavy projecting.
It is literally deliberately referencing Plato. The final place in the game is City of Forms, i.e. Plato's Theory of Forms.
>>
>>180588131
The game doesn't make the slightest attempt to be difficult or complex or present itself as such. The fact that you think the game tries to be "deep" when the culmination of the platonic idealism stuff is a whoopie-cushion-tier gag says more about you than the game. Having extremely accessible philosophical trappings isn't inherently pretentious so there's no need to feel intellectually threatened by their inclusion (or whatever other defense mechanism in your brain is telling you that the writing is necessarily bad because it integrates classic elements of philosophy).
>>
>>180588571

These are more of movies with gameplay elements, to be honest, and I've played both.

The only time I got stuck in To The Moon was in the doctor's office because jesus fuck finding the fifth memory was pain in the ass.
OFF's difficulty curve is... weird, to the point that final boss is pretty much a 'use this skill 3 times to kill the boss'
>>
>>180593632
I'd agree concerning To The Moon, but OFF definitely still tries to be a standard RPG with its combat and puzzles. You can make the argument that a lot of JRPG-style RPGs are just movies with gameplay elements, but I think that becomes a matter of semantics and opinion at some point.

And the point of the list was that these are better games made in RPG Maker, not that they had to be strictly RPGs

Eeeehhh.

I'm not sure which one is worse, being Agathoth or Palpatine's slave. Agathoth might be slightly better for humanity overall, but on the other hand for you personally it doesn't make much difference either way. As the designated favorite slave you get to suck jellyfish alien cock until you die no matter which one you picked. That kind of makes it hard to give a fuck about what happens to the rest of humanity.

>>180595617
I mean, everyone is. But thinking about being old and actually empathizing with that age is scary. No matter how much you've accomplished in your life, your friends and family are dying around you and soon it's your turn. No matter how loved or hated you are, any day could be your last.
>>
>>180595048
You are probably better off as a Balzaar's slave rather than Agathoth's.

Agathoth rules from behind the scenes through whatever puppet you gave to him so you are probably not given that much power overall. Balzaar on the other hand doesn't fuck around and you are technically the second most important person in the entire world.

Both have absolutely no regard for your life and will dispose of you the moment it benefits them even slightly, but it seems like Balzaar will have little reason to do that as he rules the entire world and no one can do a damn thing about it. Agathoth on the other hand has to keep up the "behind the scenes" shenanigans and as such there will be more conflicts and opportunities to use you as a disposable tool.

Agathoth is definitely better for humanity as a whole though since he keeps things relatively normal while Balzaar put the world on its head.

You are second to Agathoth in every ending of his, whether you get him a puppet or become it yourself. Every lord ending except Miltiades explicitly mentions that you control the lord from behind the scenes.

So the only difference is that with Balzaar you get to openly live in luxury, and with Agathoth you either become the puppet, or like your god you hang out in the shadows.

The other difference is that Balzaar owns everything and there is little conflict or opportunities where you could die.

Agathoth is much more subtle so it involves more opportunities to get you killed if needed, such as in the Burn It ending where he makes you kill Paullus and die in the process.

>>
>>180599439
Depends on the speed of the general. Obviously a thread that reaches bump limit within a day with a high counter means more than a thread that reaches it within a week, or doesn't at all. With /indie/ a high poster count means a lot of different people came in and then left, rather than a big group of regular posters.

Good point about phoneposters probably but I doubt there's enough proxy usage to make as much of a significant impact.

>playing Shadow Tactics
>mission where you're supposed to save a village overrun by rebels
>starts with a cutscene involving a guard executing villagers in a line
>sequence continues even after the level starts
>if you immediately run to a very specific spot and fire ASAP from the start of the level you can interrupt the sequence before any more villagers have to die
>guards are timed so that one guard looks away just before his view cone overlaps the killed guard and another only looks at the guard after he has completely dropped
>not that you have time to check any of their view cones before trying this
>other vignettes of guards killing villagers throughout the level can likewise be disrupted before anyone has to die without triggering any alarms
I love when games give you the option of fucking with the story they're trying to tell.

Reminds me of in Dishonored where outside of the two guards eaten by rats at the very beginning, every scripted NPC death can be prevented as long as you're very fast and precise with your teleports and chokeholds.
>>
>>180621619
It just felt like a terribly mundane story that tries too hard to be sad, and I cry over all kinds of stupid shit
The game just didn't give me something to worry about because it deals with terribly mundane things and uninteresting characters, while literally nothing happens through the course of the whole story (it's even resolved the way it has no real resolution)

And yeah, outside of the story, the game has nothing, so it also felt like a waste of time.
>>
>>180622850
Hm, I dunno, I think its mundaneness and less-defined characters were meant to be that way so you could relate and self-insert yourself more or less into those general problems and issues. A life of regrets, unrequited love, failed dreams, stuff like that that a lot of people can resonate with, especially as you get older. And the fantasy of being able to alter your memories before your die to believe that you actually did succeed and accomplish your dreams, even if it's not true, is alluring. It's one of those things that tries to grip you in terms of relation and empathy and such.

At least that's what I got from it and probably a lot of other people did, too. Maybe that's just waxing poetic, though. In any case that's at least why I at least liked it well enough, and maybe other people. It's alright if you don't, though, that kind of thing varies from person to person.
>>
>>180586374
Seems like? Be glad you don't know the truth from first hand experience. It's a CYOA story with barebones gameplay. Some call it a VN, but I wouldn't go that far, it has more choices than VNs.

Age of Decadence friends... is there anything to spend money on later in the game? I've been saving it like crazy but suddenly there's nothing to even spend money on (as a meat head warrior, at least).

I've even been going to a cheap doctor for 40-80 gold heals as opposed to the usual 100-200 gold.
>>
>>180638959
As a warrior? Not much, unless you want to buy crafting and alchemy ingredients, or buy most of the special ware in Madoraan. But simply participating in the Arena gives you so much loot and money that it becomes very hard to spend it all.

As a loremaster on the other hand I was constantly low on cash. Buying artifacts and paying bribes is expensive business. Had to do an inventory clear out just to buy the Ghosthand and the modules off Ramirus.

I just did a loremaster/crafting run as loremaster start, aurelian praetor and it suuuucked. No persuasion or combat meant that I had no real solution to anything that wasn't handling ancient artifacts. My gear was top tier but that still wasn't enough to win fights. On the other hand, it did get me One God ending pretty much by accident. So that was nice.

Yeah, that's one part where metaknowledge from a previous playthrough comes in handy. I already knew that the Abyss has to be done before leaving Madoraan and that one you leave Teron there's no going back until Ganezzar, so that allowed me to avoid some mistakes. Like when 10 minutes into the game the Aurelians at the mining outpost told me to pack my things because we are going to Madoraan I said lolnope and reloaded.

Okay, finally beat OneShot after buying it yesterday. It was neat, and interesting, but in that satisfying yet empty-feeling manner that all these meta-indie games leave me feeling. Mostly because it helps to draw my attention even further to the fact that none of these characters are real, and that I'm using fake characters to stimulate the empathy and emotions that real people should be stimulating in normal, not broken people.

God, I'm lonely.

Also, reminder that Niko isn't real either, and all your positive emotions in that regard are wasted on an unfeeling void.

Intelligence/lore. I'm not sure how much intelligence you need, but you need 10 lore, and also access to Meru's library to research safety protocols. If you crack it you can activate the teleport gate to the Temple and go there directly instead of having to deal with Hellgate or Dead River.

If you play a combat build or at least a hybrid, AoD's gameplay is indistinguishable from regular RPGs.

>Some call it a VN, but I wouldn't go that far, it has more choices than VNs

VNs don't have any kind of stats, they work purely with branching. Dating sims work with reputation systems, Princess Maker-style spreadsheet simulators use stats.

CYOAs by the way don't have stats or checks either. You are confusing it with gamebooks.

> but keeps the envoy of said mindcontrolling god by his side, unrestrained
You were unarmed and stole a sword of a nearby centurion. He didn't expect you to try anything either since you would be killed the moment you did anything, he couldn't expect Agathoth is going to take over you.

>>
>>180676324
What's Anodyne's deal? It looks like a dinky little game but any time I look up reviews people talk about how it's some kind of commentary on the medium or some shit.
>>
>>180677704
It can be both?
It has the vey fun gameplay I would closest compare to LA. It has a very unique atmosphere and it presents different views on forms of friendships.
Then it also has the WTF extra exploring you get to do by reloading a finished game with your ultimate weapon.
>>
>>180678403
I didn't say it couldn't be both. Does the game have anything intelligent to say or are fans overselling the loftier qualities of the game? Having weird secret rooms doesn't really qualify as a penetrating insight into the medium at large, so either there's something more or people are full of shit.
>>
>>180679048
Why did you put the message and extra exploring as the same? And it is not just rooms lol

>>
>>180680107
Rebirth isn't a particularly good game and I'm glad that I got gifted it rather than spending money on it, but this is just a bad opinion. The only thing that makes Isaac even slightly entertaining is unlocking more interesting modifiers for your shots and more interesting use items.

Anodyne holds a special place in my heart but it's neither anything revolutionary nor an especially good Zelda clone. It has a cozy, Earthbound-like surreal atmosphere and charm to it, decent music and some dungeons and areas are really thematically cool and unique, but that's about it.

The reason people love it is because of a pretty major gameplay mechanics twist that makes the game last about twice as long as you originally thought it would. If you have no intention of playing the game, I might as well spoil it:
You gain the ability to swap tiles in the game world, which lets you do stuff like replacing wall tiles with floor tiles and access parts of the maps that were meant to be completely inaccessible.

This plays pretty well on the nostalgia cards of people who grew up with top-down 2D games like Zelda or Pokemon and always wondered to themselves what existed beyond the fences in towns or thick shrubbery in forests and wished they could explore the parts of the world that were only hinted at. Anodyne lets you do that, which is why so many people like it.

There's nothing "deep" about it and I don't think the game tries to oversell any kind of pretentious message, all that is just faggots trying to overanalyze shit. Anodyne is just a neat game that does a thing that few/none other games do.
>>
>>180679558
What >>180680107
said. I've got 230 hours in Isaac and I can't truly say how many of those hours I've actually enjoyed. I turn it on every once in a while to try to unlock some stuff, but it always seems pointless. If you don't get a good item on the first floor then you might as well restart, and when 90% of the item pool is completely worthless, you'll be doing a lot of restarts since the only stats that matter are strength and rate of fire. The problem gets even worse when you hit characters that are obviously underpowered timesinks like The Keeper or Maggie.

Dominions 4 will be endless fun if you're exceptionally autistic like me and you can into games that are needlessly complex like Aurora and DF. Qud is neat and might be worth your money, but it has less depth than DCSS which is free. Hollow Knight gives me a big Miyazaki vibe if you're into that sort of thing. Don't get Darkest Dungeon for the same reasons as Isaac-- it turns into a shitty RNG grindfest. Shadowrun is okay, Sunless Sea is neat, Warband is great but you might as well wait for the sequel.
>>
>>180681198
I've got 202 hours in Isaac and I don't know why the fuck you'd play for that long if you're truly of the opinion that the game gets worse the more things you unlock. Plenty of the more interesting tear modifiers are unlocks and those are the only thing that give the game any replay value.
>>
>>180675563
what the fuck anon

>>
>>180681412
I'd love it if I actually got tear modifiers. But when you're playing as the Keeper just to get some shitty unlocks and every single time you go to the reward room and it's a health up or a bottle of pills or an activated item that's completely worthless it makes me fed up. The grind even gets more real when you're trying to get an angel room so you can fight Mega Satan but you gotta donate 10 coins to the coin machine to improve your odds, but it gets jammed every single time. It's a bullet hell game, why the fuck do I have to grind this much?

>Qud is neat and might be worth your money, but it has less depth than DCSS which is free

the biggest thing that attracts me to Qud is the presentation, the soundtrack is really weird and moody and really hits the spot for me, but yeah content wise It might be a better idea to wait for it to get out of early acess, you have to get some development time in order to reach Nethack levels of fuckery.

>Dominions 4 will be endless fun if you're exceptionally autistic like me and you can into games that are needlessly complex like Aurora and DF.

DF is great but my PC cant handle the quantum dimentional physics simulation of a fortress over 100 dwarfs

How the fuck is it anything like eathbound?
And those messages are really not deep or that hidden. The town with the boxes is very obvious a visualiation of people being friends over the internet, you just need to talk to the people.
And I disagree that it is a bad zelda clone because the gameplay is tight and all the dungeons are well designed around the abilities with decent difficulty.
The one thing that tries too hard is the bloodcave dungeon imo but that is all I ever feelt forced writing.
>>
>>180680535
It's only in early access because of the expansion.

>>180680464

>>
>>180682847
>How the fuck is it anything like eathbound?
Its writing and world gives off the same surreal and naive vibe as earthbound.
>messages are really not deep or that hidden
I did not say they were, I said the game's writing wasn't very deep at all and that people who try to make it sound like it is are retarded. Anodyne has its strengths but "depth" is not one of them. The writing isn't bad aside from a few specific instances where it tries to hard (like you said), it's just, well, there.
>bad zelda clone
It has really weak combat thanks to copying the worst Zelda game where you stab instead of slice. Jumping is awkward but unfortunately 50% of the "puzzles" involve jumping. The game is really easy and the only boss that puts up a challenge is the final one.
>>
>>180682405
Yeah that sounds like it would work. Heals seem really hard to pop off in this game unless you dedicate a third of your deck to it.
>>
>>180682412
Don't get me wrong, Qud is a lot of fun and it does a lot of stuff differently from other roguelikes. For one, there's actually worldbuilding. I'm just a little disappointed with it's depth, or maybe just how easy it is? After around an hour of toying around with the game and a few different characters, I made a guy who is quite difficult to kill and hasn't died to this day (I'm about 5 hours in with him). He has the 4 arms mutation and the 2 hearts mutation and I gave him a sword and a bunch of shields and bucklers and I haven't run into any trouble yet.

It's a little disheartening that I've figured out an optimal build so quickly and it really doesn't rely on any RNG at all. If I die, I can just reroll the same overpowered build. In a game like DCSS which I've spent at least 50x more time playing, I still haven't won and I don't know any optimal builds or what exactly to level when or even what gods I prefer. It's just so much deeper.
>>
>>180684813
I wish I was smart enough to figure out what makes a good build.
>>
>>180684813
The optimal way to play in DCSS depends entirely on the race and class. Minotaur Berserk is nearly braindead to the point autoexplore+autoattack is viable enough to get them through most of the game provided the player knows what they're doing.
>>
>>180684901
I just put on a bunch of shields, dude. I thought it would just be a joke build but I feel like nothing can stop me and I'm super disappointed. If I roll another build I would be purposely inhibiting myself to make the game harder.

well you could tell the devs about that so they could figure something out, they might just say fuck it and nerft but there is the chance that they could come up with something that ends up making the game more fun

I dunno, they could add challenge modes like in DoomRL to encourage different builds, in that game technicians can craft stupidly powerful weapons but beating the game in Angel Of Berserk was pretty satisying

Im a bit reluctant to play DCSS on the other hand, after hearing people complain about all the shit they removed and the advocacy shanenigans of the developers

Bought Underrail yesterday and haven't played it at all. Just felt like if I were investing my time into a game I should try and make a character that won't shit the bed, but I gotta build a character before starting the game. So instead I've been researching builds.

Watched these 10 builds: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLODG1adf6vDX-cWo-GPxG4UYuzm9PJOur&jct=I8ta_X24GuMFNoa1hW2SvjVP-Xqyyg

Truth is, researching the game before playing is not necessary, most builds that follow common sense will do well enough to get through the game with little frustration. But if you are a minmaxer at heart, it's either research or rerolling until you get it right.

You can buy the blueprint from Lucas in the armory from the start. But crafting consumables this early in the game is going to eat up your funds pretty fast.

Not to mention that grenades are not the best choice for primary weapon if you plan to engage in combat. It can work if you combine it with high stealth and stay out of trouble best as you can, but otherwise you should at the very least use other throwing weapons at well.

Note that while I say these can work, this isn't something I'd recommend to a beginner. Too hard when you are still just learning the ropes.

If you'd like to play with the biology/chemistry side of the crafting table, go with something that either benefits highly from them, like chemical pistols, or make a high will high int psi and support yourself with magic in combat while you build up experience and resources to get something good out of crafting.
>>
>>180699307
>you need to minmax the shit out of your character to get through it

You don't. It's a game that allows minmaxers to break the game in a million ways if they wish to do so, but you don't have to be a minmaxer to do reasonably well. And if you don't trust your own skill at building and playing your character, you can always just start with a lower difficulty. Easy is basically retard-proof, it starts you off with more HP at level 1 than your average end game character has on hard.

There's no way to know any of this without actually getting a few hours into the game. Grenade mains are unviable solely because there is an arbitrary cool down on grenade throws.
The problem in the game isn't min maxing, it's that there's a lot of misleading and unexpected things that force you to reroll. Underrail is non intuitive.

Very simplistic for tactical RPGS IMO. Nonetheless, I enjoyed Dragonfall. The default campaign (Dead Man's Switch, which I think at retail was sold simply as Shadowrun Reborn) was boring beyond belief gameplay-wise and quite poorly written.

>>
>>180711538
The combat itself is relatively simple - I think of a much faster-paced Link To The Past with some twin stick shooter elements, but I've heard people throw around Secret of Mana (never played) a fair amount too. You'll have to do a lot of quick dodging/blocking to avoid enemy attacks, and know when to go in for melee and whatnot. Simple yet fun, just about everything I've experienced so far wasn't just bullshit and my losses required me to blame no one but myself. It's all action-oriented but the customization can make things so much better on you.

You can later customize Lea with elements which change her stats around a lil and give her new combat arts, and there's a fair amount of arts to unlock and and passive skills (called Circuits) which allow for plenty of room to specialize in a certain style of play like you would in other games.

The last battle theme is easily my favorite final boss theme in any game ever. It's got an epic and grand feel with a great buildup, and a sinister sort of tune at the beginning, but when the chorus kicks in it nails a great feeling of desperation and tragedy but still maintains an upbeat intensity that seems to motivate me on its own.

>You just have to walk up to two guys and have a chat with them to unlock the path to the ending.
I don't think you could clear with zero skills, though. Without lore, you'd need to clear hellgate or dead river. Dead river needs combat; hellgate needs combat, talking, or sneaking. That said, I think you can get Benny's amulet with a word of honor check, but you'd have to set that up ahead of time which could itself require skills.

And then there's the temple. I don't know if you could clear the temple with zero skills.

Let me see if I got this right, before the Infinity Franchise came around, these gangs would have fights, less for territory and power, and more just to give people something to do, right? Since it was just a game, these gangs would seldom actually kill each other, until the Infinity guys started showing up and wrecking shit, right?

What you're thinking of I think is the people in comments and on social media who demanded everybody else play UT, but only in the same way they did, i.e. normal > pacifist > genocide > pacifist, and having tantrums if people dared to deviate from that or spoil things for themselves

I have version 1.0.0.6 with copyright for December 2004.

fought the beloved soapster known as balrog in village and saw toroko get kidnapped. went to egg corridor to find sue, also fighting igor. then i found the whatshisface doctor in grasstown and fought balrog again, and then his frog form. after that you go to sandzone where you meet curly, fight her, fight that sand worm, find jenka's puppies, go to magazine where king dies and you have to kill toroko and then, because misery is a bitch, throws you into labyrinth. labyrinth had booster guy but i managed to skip him because i am a stubborn person who tried to see if you can actually make the jump, thanks to previous metroidvania. you also fight whatever was that black balrog lookalike, the monster tank thing, more balrog, and then go fight core together with curly. since i was stubborn to skip booster, i had the tow rope... and accidentally left curly inwaterworks because i was a dumb person. the fish thing battles me and after that the village is pretty much empty because all mimigas are kidnapped. you have to go back to egg corridor which is now in ruins (and also has one of the best music in the entire game). you talk to the doctor you saved before, and this is where you can get the bad ending if you feel like it. you can also continue further, through outer wall into plantation, where you find all the mimiga. you also find the other two researches that arrived on island and didn't went nuts (fuck off Doctor). you get a sprinkler to make a rocket and well, go through the final cave into balcony, and then fight misery, doctor and undead core in a pseudo boss rush. if you weren't a goof like me you could also go for the best ending and into sanctuary, but i wasn't aware of that. me getting the 2.0 booster and tow rope was me just being stubborn of trying to jump over the gap because it looked close on first jump and i have a curiosity for sequence breaking.

Its not that cryptic, but it has a lot of puzzles that is based of existing ingame text. And there is a lot of ingame text.
So much ingame text, rituals, and archeology that you need to take notes to realistically have a chance to finish the game.

There is also some cool gimmick mechanics, such as the "areas" being cylinders, or the Mantras, that is sorta obvious once you have done it once or twice.
Combat & platforming is also really well done

>Underrail is non intuitive.

I wouldn't go this far. Following the general advice that you should focus on some form of combat and that you shouldn't try to make a jack of all trades should be enough to build something viable. Even if neither is true strictly speaking, they are true enough as far as a new player is concerned. And even if you have never received this advice from someone, anyone with half a brain should be able to deduce upon seeing the character creation screen that you are better off not splitting your points between several combat skills. Even if you completely jumble the management of your non-combat skills, which should be easy enough to correct once you have experienced more from the game, as long as you haven't gone full retard with your stats and combat skill the build is salvageable.

BUT

I absolutely agree that throwing is a problem. Listing it with three other options that are perfectly normal combat skills is misleading. There is some logic in the categorization, after all traps and psionics are also offensive skills yet listed elsewhere, but I can't blame any new player for not sitting down and thinking it through that throwing might be a bit different than the rest.
>>
>>180730243
You can figure it out. Of the listed offensive skills it is the only one that doesn't also increase damage. That should be a warning sign. And if you want to make a grenade build, checking the grenade feats should be a dead giveaway. The cooldowns might be arbitrary, but when one of the only two specifically grenade feats explicitly tells you about cooldowns, and even gives you a very good idea about the length of those cooldowns, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

But even if for some reason you haven't checked the feats, the very first thing the game asks you in the tutorial is to pick up a bunch of grenades and throw one. So at worst you should realize that something is wrong, and while this realization would still strongly encourage you to reconsider your build, it comes after two minutes, not several hours.

So anyway, although I think it would be better if the list was reorganized as primary and support offensive skills, I disagree that the game ever blindsides the player with sudden revelations that something is just not going to work once they are already several hours into the game.

If you have problems in Underrail just follow a build guide.

I don't know why, but that line made me laugh a lil bit. A wee bit more than a giggle.

so what happened to the underrail craze? i remember a few months ago, it was practically underrail general here. did everyone beat the game and stop playing or something?
>>
>>180735927
Anon, the game released a year and a half ago. The shocking thing here is that even a year after we all have finished it many times we can still get this much activity as we patiently wait for new content.

/indie/ FOTM games come and go. We'll probably see another Underrail spike when the expansion is released.

There's a good chance that we'll move back to /v/ for that. Quite a few long-time Underrail players only hang out in /v/ threads and never drop by here. We'll see.

In E.Y.E. is hacking completely worthless or is my skill just too low? Every time I try to possess a guy and make him kill others, he doesn't follow my orders.
>>
>>180736949
Don't bother with hacking. There's no realy strategy, it's just a clicking game. Just shoot people in the face.
>>

Harvest Moon General
>>
>>180737048
Isn't that one dead? I went there once to ask if there was porn of the women and how to play the games, was unable to find it back.

That's also why I'm here, because there's no Harvest Moon general.
>>
>>180736949
If you want to hack, you need to focus on it, so your skill might be too low. It's probably only worth it anyway if you find the minigame interesting.
>>
>>180728038
There is a log that can save about 5 notes but its a waste of phone space when you can just screenshot and write things down
>>
>>180736949
There is a strategy to hacking you can look up.
I think its endlessly scanning so the enemy never attacks and keeps overdriving which kills its defense and then you attack
>>
>>180737565
Doesn't really work if your hacking skill is too low, it can spam skills faster than you.

>>
>>180740243
just say that cave story is overrated or something equally controversial
>>
>>180740243
No you don't. You should talk about games instead.
>>
>>180740751
Fine.

FEZ is objectively better than Cave Story, and you people are just jealous of Phil Fish, harassing him like you did, pathetic little keyboard warriors.
>>
And also, Niko's a cute, I want to lift them and cuddle them.
>>
>>180740943
Eh, I don't think that comparing a 2d shooter game with a puzzle game makes much sense. Though I did enjoy CS more than FEZ, which was only alright.
>>
>>180741474
Nobody care what you think, you deluded fanboy. You only like Cave Story because it's made by a gook and thus it appeals to your weeabooism, you waste of a human being.

Am I doing it right?
>>
>>180741604
I like Cave Story's world and characters. Gameplay was enjoyable as well. It was overall a good game.
>>
>>180740943
Being completely honest, I'd rank FEZ and Cave Story about the same. Both are above-average games that set out to do something and (mostly) succeed in doing so, with some minor annoyances and missed potential. Both games' general perception by gamers is greatly affected by outside factors that don't actually have anything to do with the game, such as Cave Story being praised because it was the spark that ignited the indie and hobbyist scenes, and FEZ being downplayed because Fish accomplished the feat of pissing practically everyone on the internet in one way or another.
>>
>>180741860
The biggest merit of Cave Story is technology/purity - it's a real retro game instead of contemporary bloated piece of shit with cheap retro-like aesthetics.

Be careful, you might jinx it again.
>>
>>180742241
This was only half-correct prior to the Zangyou update but is definitely the correct answer ever since it was added.
>>
>>180742163
I'm capable of separating my feelings on Phil Fish from my feeling on Fez, and Fez gets rightfully downplayed because it's not a particularly interesting game to play.
>>
>>180742324
In that case, I'll just talk of Niko's cute little butt again.

I honestly don't want to play Oneshot, because I have a really bad feeling about what's going to happen to the cute, clueless, innocent little not-cat kid.
>>
>>180737565
That's not what I'm asking. I can do the minigame just fine, it's that possession doesn't appear to be of any use.
>>
>>180742769
Why do you keep talking about Niko's butt? You should talk about their game instead.
>>
>>180714272
>>180715593
Yeah, kind of helps you get over the fact that the egg corridor is completely fucked.
>>
>>180743139
Because there's nothing much to say, there's no strategy, it's a walking simulator with small riddles.

Meanwhile Niko is cute, and seeing them opening big eyes on everything brings a smile to my face.
>>
>>180743145
It is indeed a nice cooldown from everything that's happened.
>>180743252
I mean, there's the plot, the characters, the world, the meta aspect, etc. There's stuff to talk about dude. Also, there's no need to be afraid to finish it, you can trust me.
>>
>>180743438
Last time I trusted anyone on 4chan, I ended up masturbating to some very good porn, before noticing they both had dicks.

Never again.
>>
>>180743587
I'm not 4chan. I just wish you'd finish the game. It's quite the enjoyable ride. I also have a feeling that you won't find any porn while playing it.
>>
>>180742489
Seriously, this

Cave story at least has some character to it and some sort of gameplay.
Fez mostly relies on obtuse puzzles, even platforming in this game is bad.
>>
>>180744078
I see FEZ as being made of two halves: the "puzzle platforming where you rotate the world" half and the "cryptic nonsense" half. I thought the gimmick for the first half was done well enough (except for a few glitches here and there) while the other half felt so jarring in comparison.

>>
>>180744660
The gimmick is okay but I believe it wears off very fast

Also it's a platformer with extreme falling damage, where the game kills you for straying off the linear segments, combined with useless map it makes the game painful to traverse

True that. I'm just interested to see what he'd make with some budget behind him, if anything.
>>
>>180746971
The atmosphere is pretty top. But, like, the train rides in particular are both a: tremendously atmospheric due to passenger chat and the environment that you're riding through and b: obnoxious because you have to pay attention to essentially uninteresting mechanics which prevent you from listening to passenger chat.
