alternatively: survival is pretty simple, just find a way to keep your o2 and energy topped, can be with frequent visits to medbay / cryochamber or via bottles. keep in mind that if you are in oxygenated environment open visor and that the more you use your tools the more energy from suit it will eat up
as for building in survival: have 50-100 of steel plate, construction component and interior plates each in inventory, nothing else, your job is to place the blocks and finishing them off should be with a welding ship, not by hand (except the welding ship itself, this one you gotta weld yourself)

both creative and survival ships are imo best made from inside - out, first you lay in the guts that are needed for a ship (if it's a welder then you start with welder, cargo, then you add the power, gyros and cockpit, then you might add o2, then thrusters and at the very end armor blocks)

Not entirely correct. If you intend to build a large ship from scratch, then a welding ship will come in very handy. see: mandatory
That being said, if you're just upgrading your lemon (or another civilian ship), then thoughtful design will allow you to easily weld by hand.

Firstly, make sure that the entire ship's inventory is linked up by conveyors.
Secondly, avoid welding or grinding blocks far away from an accessible conveyor port.
By (ab)using the instant item transfer in conveyors, you can effectively multiply your work speed several times over.

I've tried that a few times, each time culminating in me discarding the concept due to KEEEEN.
For any number of reasons, welders will randomly choose not to work on grids they're attached or belong to.
While it's definitely possible to get working, it's nowhere close to reliable.

The advantage of a bus is flexibility, that you can easily get one type of item to a multitude of different consumers.
Engine units are consumed primarily by science 3 and electric engines, the latter in turn being consumed by production science.
The other uses for engines are basically buildings (consider shopping mall instead of bus) and flying bots.

Given that you're dealing with two or three significant consumers (your stance on bots being the difference), why would you bother bussing them, when the bus's primary advantage is moot?

SPOILERS for the shenzen i/o control router puzzle. I quite enjoyed this one, as you'll see.

First off, the brutalist design: I heard of this thing called a switching fabric, right? And it's like, a shared data bus and an asynchronous selector. So here we have it: a switching chip that decides routing very longwindedly, and then takes pains to pass the entire frame down to each of three per-channel chips which duly also decode the frame length and shit. Totally works too, I was delighted at my own inventiveness, and somewhat disgusted the game would make me go this far.

Why are "production science packs" such a huge fucking pain in the ass to produce in factorio 1.5? Why the fuck does it need fucking electric furnaces, it is literally THE ONLY intermediate product in the ENTIRE tech tree that needs fucking stone. I planned as far ahead as I could and set up a main belt system with important intermediate products like circuits, steel and gear wheels to streamline production and make it overall more compact and easy to manage and troubleshoot. I thought that apart from petrochemical ingredients like batteries and plastic it covered everything I will need to produce all future science packs and I could produce them all locally near a refinery. But I did not account for fucking "electric furnaces". They need both bricks and red circuits, it could not be any more inconvenient.
So now I either need to set up a twenty mile long belt from the nearest source of bricks at the other end of the factory to my red circuit plant or I can set up a new brick production line from a stone source near by (there is none near by, hahaha). All for one single stupid product, electric furnaces.
So I give up and tell myself "fine, I'll just let the logistic robots handle the bricks" but for some even more stupid reason, request chests are locked behind not only "production" but also "high tech science packs". I am not going to fucking carry a thousand bricks to that shitty furnace assembly machine every ten minutes for the next 10 hours until I unlock request chests. Fuck that.

Gears are used a ton and making them locally is simply stupid. It saves a ton of space and time to produce them en masse and belt them in when you need them. Plus producing gears locally creates iron plate bottlenecks everywhere. Everything needs too much fucking iron anyway.

My main bus is iron, copper, steel, plastic, green circuits, and red circuits. Anything else is either made locally or transported by logistic bots.

Gears are used quite heavily for 0.15 science and for some stock items (e.g. transport belts), but they aren't needed for rockets. So if your factory is focused on rockets, they don't belong on the bus.
