Disagree with a good portion of this if not almost all of it. Especially the part about how admitting to previously being a "bungie fanboy" is supposed to put weight behind an opinion that takes a pro-343i stance. I've never understood the meaning of this term and I've never met anyone that actually admits to being a fan of bungie first and foremost simply because they enjoy the older games more. I'm not denying that such people exist, but the term is more of a buzzword than an actual phenominon.

The only parts I can say I see eye to eye with is 5 having the best forge so far (that should be a given. It would be dumb if a newer entry didn't expand on forge and improve it. It's not like multiplayer where each game has a unique design to it) and that it's a good thing they're actually taking their time with 6 instead of making empty promises and rushing it out.

Halo is a pretty damn old franchise and for all the talk of it dying IT'S STILL HERE. I can hardly play most of the old Source or pre-source FPS games now, older BF and Battlefront are pretty fucked, so many games are just completely dead, but I can go on my Xbone right now and play the ~16 year old Halo 1 right now if I wanted and find a match in a minute or two. I've been a Halo fan all of my life. I first played CE at a very young age, and I had been following the series all the way until Reach, it was my last Halo game.

I recently recovered my original Gamertag, complete with my shitty old Halo 3 screenshots, achievements, and the Recon armor I spent days grinding for.

The nostalgia brought me to look at Halo 5, I had been completely detached from the series, but now I want back in.

I know that Halo 6 is far from being properly announced, but I really can't afford to buy an xbone just to play Halo 5.

Is there any general idea as to when 5 might be released on PC? And if so, would cross-platform multiplayer be a thing?

Ideally everyone relevant. But that will take time. It's a process.
As it stands right now Blue Team might be a little top heavy. Obviously it's not going to be perfectly balanced but ideally I'd like it to be close enough that superior teamwork ends up becoming the deciding factor.
I have no idea how good CDR is based off of recollection so I have to go almost completely off of his stats and previous games which put him up in the Dew/Sweaty tier range and if that's the case it could really tip the scale heavily blue.
Jffry is the other wild card who I don't play enough with and he's even trickier because he has well above average stats in every game from 2 to 4 but then takes a nose dive in 5 apparently so I just have to kind of give him the benefit of the doubt that he's better than waypoint indicates for that game.

Definitely. I feel like they dragged Chiefs character through the mud with 4 and 5 with an unnecessary story and made the events of the original trilogy seem insignificant and pointless.

So far they have yet to justify waking him up. The ending to 3 was powerful and brilliantly done, even if the campaign wasn't generally up to par for some people. Also developing a sequel to Halo 3 as your first project was never going to end well.

I'm not sure where Halo could go outside of just making sequels. With the Didact, Requiem and Prometheans perhaps creating a unique story set during the human-forerunner war might have been interesting and they could flesh out the franchise with new designs without stepping on Bungies toes, the forerunners had already lost their mystery so...

It's not just Chief's story that should have ended there. It's the whole story. The Master Chief is not the reason the reclaimer saga is poorly written. It's poorly written because the people writing and developing the new games are a bunch of hacks. The Human-Covenant war is a very long period of time. Halo 3 should have stayed the ending of it all and future games could have taken place at various points throughout it. As far as the legendary ending of 3 is concerned, they could have easily dealt with it in a much less hamfisted way.

That's the current idea. We will need to find maps we agree on for Slayer and both CTF matches. Maybe /hg/ island could be edites for a decent 1-flag map. It would be neat if someone could forge an /hg/ themed griffball court, as long as it stays standard size. Breakout I'm assuming will be on one of the bigger breakout maps like Highrise or Gambol.
