I, and most sane people, would rather play a game for a few months, experience all of it, and be done with it.

In Hearthstone that is not the case. You spend months TRYING to experience content, get to play with 20% of the cards, then a new set comes out. And if you are stupid enough to spend money you are spending $300-500 to enjoy all the content when it comes out.

I don't think the game is that shitty, I've been playing since Naxx, entirely f2p. It's fun, just gotta stop looking at it like competitive skilled-based "eSport" or some shit. It's an especially good game if you actually have a job that allots you a lot of down time. I, for example, work as a reliability engineering technician and run a lot of tests to see if parts break under different kinds of stress. Some take upwards of an hour after setting up, lots of downtime where I have to entertain myself, HS is perfect for that.

Well, yeah, that sucks a bit.
That said many players run standard decks or only a small variation thereof in wild, even at high ranks. It's very much not all absolutely crazy meme-y stuffed-full-of-legendaries wallet decks.
It's also a fun change of pace from the standard meta (although there's decent overlap, as mentioned), so I'd recommend giving it a shot some time.
I have no idea why more people don't.

I'd go with the other Midrange Paladin deck but I really don't know how to make it work as much as murlocs, but I do have that deck crafted.

I just want the ride to be over so I can focus on other things. After this grind I don't know if I'd even consider it again. It's really stressful.

Keeping on playing is the most important thing, but to really improve you do need to have the mindset of finding things to do better each game. How to mulligan against a certain class, how to play best to your win condition in each matchup, how to play around things in his hand by noticing when he has suboptimal turns (if he had X to play around, he would have played it already).

Watching informative streams can be really helpful, find someone you like that explains every play he makes and his gameplan. For me personally, I find RDU is the most verbal and informative about everything, and I also enjoy watching pros like Th3rat, VLPS, Apxvoid, fr0zen, Dog, Muzzy, Ostkaka that are lighter on the memes and more on talking things out.

For me rank floors and simultaneously laddering in both standard and wild have really helped with that - if I need a break I just play the other format and don't give much of a shit about rank or meme it up for a while once I hit 5. Much less tilt that way I've found.
It's probably entirely because of this that I've hit legend this month - was rank 2 in both formats, had a quest, started laddering with practically no pressure at all and hit a pretty good winstreak with not even a meta deck.

Before rank floors (and wild) it always felt like "gotta play nothing but tier 1 or face retarded decks in casual or lose rank, fuck this shit".

Ashy Larry is a muthafuckin' legend. In a single game there is a wide amount of variance, but tournament strategy honestly adds a large amount of depth into the game. If you have never competed in an open, you should try sometime, it's free in the OP links. Conquest sucks but working on your lineups and practicing all your decks/tech/decisions/matchups becomes more complex than jamming pirate warrior to top 200. It's not a coincidence that the top players consistently come out on top, although getting highrolled certainly happens. It's like any poker or TCG tournament, most people consider consistent top 8 and top 16 finishes a great feat. Poker tournaments are an even bigger meme though, the real money is in drunk Russian and Brazilian whales online. Hearthstone is a game of arithmetic and light statistics, and some people optimize their gameplay enough to significantly stick out from most.

This why Hearthstone can't have nice things, they completely ignore what's actually wrong with the game as whole and focus what's good for the current deck they wanna play. Scrubs love random cards and discover that is gutting any idea of competitiveness the game has left, but the moment a combo deck pops up they start screeching for nerfs if it ever sees competitive play.
All cards that aren't from your deck need to be revealed when drawn. The rotation has made random cards far too reliable source of value in general.

I think blizz inadvertantly created a problem for themselves with the rogue quest. If it exists like this for 2 years it literally doesn't matter what cards come out because the value of that one card pretty much makes all cards the same after its played, and it really isn't that difficult to trigger the effect.

We will have to see what they bring with the next set but I think the quests are going to be a pain in the ass for them for the next 2 years

All of the quests are short-sighted. For all their "Limits design space" meme's they really painted themselves in the corner. Now entire classes are going to be dictated or at the least influenced by the archtypes they've forced on them. If mage gets even more rando spell card generation, that quest just becomes that much better. Same for any of them.

Can't print busted low costs, death-rattles, taunts, spell generation, 1/1 beasts, or discard cards without having to really evaluate what it will do in interacting with the quests.

Just try playing any Blue-Black MTG deck or getting FTK'd in YGO! by 4 fucking Blue Eyes. I'd say Hearthstone is one of the few games where I actually feel helpless when a combo deck gets popping off. Game really needs instants or a proper stack to it if they're going to implement solitaire styled I win buttons. Its why people complain so much about freeze mage, quest rogue, and the old school super fun miracle rogue. Beware, that deck does not fare particularly well against Taunt Warrior, it is an anti-aggro deck that is light on threats that can occasionally highroll their board. Blazecallers and Kalimos help the most in slower matchups for obvious reasons. It's a pretty neat deck to pilot, evaluating the importance of saving an elemental for future setup can be more tricky than you think, especially when compared to Dergons

Tribes allow you to utilize ridiculous effects without breaking the overall game by limiting what cards you can play them beside. For example, Coldlight Seer could never be a general card because that would be fucking busted. Consider YGO!, if all the powercreeped tribe decks (all of them) could interact with each others' synergies, it would all be first turn kills every game. Not really. Sacrifice/Synchro/XYZ summonings don't exist in HS, the resource management system is mana instead. The monsters you sacrifice to summon this act as counters for the effect. A few things... if your goal is to improve your rank remember you are first and foremost playing the ladder, NOT any one specific game. This means playing the fastest viable deck you have. Quicker match ups mean you get more practice with your deck, more exposure to the state of the meta via observing more opponents, less tilt since each game is shorter and less of an emotional investment, and of course faster wins to drive your rank up. Never let the fear of losing stars keep you from playing, laugh or cry it off and hit that fucking button. Play on curve more often, you're trying to win matches not every single turn. Use a tracker to avoid dumb mistakes and track stats. Don't over react and tech some bullshit in just because you lost to pirates 2 matches in a row. Accept the RPS nature of the meta and the fact that you will have unfavorable match ups. Try to play against your opponent's next turn not thier last one. Set aside time to play on a regular schedule (daily is optimal) and avoid play time binges. Take stimulants and write walls of text in /hsg/ threads.

This will lay the ground work for lots of quality practice and you might just accidentally get better in the process.
