Here's a full rundown, strap yourself in for the wild ride.

When this general first started, there were several ideas for us to make a fangame, ranging from an RPG, a cafe dating sim, etc. Most of these ended up being individual projects and were half-finished/dropped.
This one guy called Scott started working on a RPG and was really prolific, releasing updates almost every week, so people liked having him around. So when he started doing livestreams where he worked on his RPG and sometimes played Legends, people turned up.
His progress slowed down due to creator's block, but everyone was pretty sympathetic since it wasn't like progress was being made on any other projects. He still continued livestreaming, but eventually there was less and less Mega Man and more of whatever he wanted to play (the guy was a total scrub too).
Evnetually he said he was dropping his RPG due to a lack of progress, but he still posted his off-topic streams here all the time. Attendance at the streams dropped to 1-3 people. He whined on the thread about people not turning up and shitposted about Roll Caskett.

Then one day when he was whining, everyone snapped and told him to kill himself. He may or may not have seriously considered doing it, and the thread calmed down after a bit, with many people saying they would drop the matter if he would. The idiot insisted on continuing to namefag/outed himself in other ways (posting his streams/Roll Caskett posting) because he just couldn't keep quiet. He picked fights with a couple of other people here and recorded a femanon's (gender relevant later) Google Hangouts stream without her permission.

After pissing everyone off, he posted a really cringy "apology" video where he made an awkward apology to the general and very backhanded apologies towards some specific people, myself included..
He insisted that he hadn't meant any harm in recording that anon's stream, saying that he "wasn't using it to fap or anything" and that "she isn't his type anyway".
Then he said he'd pick up his RPG again, but everyone was pretty exhausted with his behaviour and didn't really care unless he actually finished his game. Surprise surprise, he didn't, but continued to hang around here anyway until he eventually left.

Now, for something that hasn't been talked about here before that was a big factor in him leaving, I made the dating sim game and turned up to his streams all the time because I had nothing better to do, felt bad for him, understood the struggles of trying to make a game and we kinda became friends (we're also the same age). I was mentioned in his embarrassing apology video, where he assumed that I wasn't turning up to his streams anymore because I thought he was creepy for recording another girl who is also my friend, when it was really because I was busy with schoolwork. I was definitely disgusted at him recording her though.
He messaged me a lot during this drama over YouTube, apologising for incidents he caused on the thread. I tried to make it clear that while I wasn't going to hold a grudge against him, I didn't really want to talk to him anymore. I tried to be polite about it, but when he kept being a nuisance I got angry at him at one of his apologies for an incident that didn't involve me. After that, it looked like he stopped turning up on the thread for good.

HNNNNGG unpopular opinion (maybe) but X4 has gotta be my favorite X game. Just too good. Some parts of it aren't really designed too well, but I just have way too much nostalgia for it.

It has an excellent soundtrack (tied with X1 for my favorite MMX ost), visually it was a pretty major upgrade from the last three games, the overall direction was super stylish, and the levels were some of the most memorable ones of the X4-X6 era. I remember thinking that the motorcycle level was the coolest shit ever.

Other than some spotty level design I thought it was fantastic.

X4 is very overrated. The controls aren't as solid as the SNES trilogy and the final stages suck, like they were slapped together in 5 minutes. Also while I love a lot of the music, the instruments used for them are balls. It's all very early-PS1 era synth and compared to X5 and X6 it's pretty ummemorable. Everything X4 is good at was done better in X2. The only thing it has going for it is the visuals.

My biggest problem though is the batshit retarded plot and awful acting. X1-3 I feel had an equal amount of character focus and overall growth for both X AND Zero, but here X is like an afterthought. Inafune's hard-on for Zero meant 90% of the plot focused on him, and the levels seem designed specifically with Zero in mind, because they're not as fun to play through as X.

I know Capcom and bad story/acting go hand in hand, but they had something good going with X and then fucked it up.

I feel like this is probably where we differ. I don't really feel like the plot of a platformer really matters when criticizing it. Feels like if I knocked points off of Mario for having a very same-y plot all the time.

That's its biggest strength to me soundtrack-wise.

It has that industrial feeling to it, which matches the atmosphere of X perfectly. X6's OST is fucking great with the greatest final boss theme of the whole X series, but it's basically fine pieces of composition that aren't trying to evoke a particular atmosphere even in instrumentation - they're just well composed music.

Not a fault with them, but definitely much less unique.

And since the composer for X4 is the same guy who did Demon's Crest, if there's one thing this guy gets, it's atmosphere.

He was hyped as the third mysterious new character and every last bit of official art made it seem like he was another HARDBOILED SERIOUS protagonist in the oceans of these kinds of guys in the X series (and like we had NO character with memory issues looming over the games ever since X1, either).

After X7, Higurashi began to draw him as a kid having fun, and X8's team figured you'd better give a Bass-gameplay expy in the X series as opposed to a neutered, decaf MM3 Rock. So that helped.

I was there, too. When X4 came out and after many months of salivating over the prospect of a 32-bit X game, my 10 year old self had to keep going to rental stores play it because I never owned a PS1 or a Saturn.

And if I wasn't cheesing out Nova Strike all the time on the bosses, holy fucking hell.

Downgrade's an understatement IMO. So much is wrong with that game (the sprite work fell flat much more compared to X4, voices were axed when all bosses in X4 spoke, many boss patterns were recycled, the works).

My experience with a lot of the 'community' back in 2001-onwards when people let Inafune's interviews speak for himself instead of his output was of people showered praise on it because it was "Inafune's swansong", despite not reading the credits to realize he was merely Special Thanks and the guy who produced X5 PRODUCED X6 (and kept producing crap up until X8, IIRC).

Because if not-reading-credits wasn't bad enough when you credit the game's success to someone who didn't make it, in that same train of thought they began to say the person who produced X6 was sacked as soon as it hit.

There are people in this thread RIGHT NOW who use the save state function in MM Legacy Collection for purposes other than quickly saving their game so they can tend to IRL things that require immediate attention. What do you have to say for yourselves, you lowly worms?

Anyway I got that nailed down already. I'm thinking for my MM5 Protoman hack, that it would be cool if I changed beat into something more fitting, so I'm wondering if there is anything else that's specific to him I could replace it with.

I've thought of two options so far: a shield throwing attack, which would only be possible if Protoman only uses a few frames during the attack (because there isn't enough space to redraw every single frame shield-less, it'd be hell anyway), and even then it'd still be hell.

Or, some kind of dash with the shield. I'm thinking something like the Comet Dash in Unlimited with the shield in front, which can dmg /go through enemies in the same manner as charge kick. That'd be less hellish, but then again I'm not a sprite artist. I know Rockman7FC has dash frames which could be used as a base but I don't know if they let other people use them.

Any idea?
