Game is actually lot of fun. It's fun because it's mostly like Quake's multiplayer and they haven't changed the core values of it (i.e. speed). Funny how Id Software managed to make so perfect framework back in the day.

This casual matchmaking system is still fucking cancerous and terrible.

Not only queues but awful matches with zero balance are common, you wait for a match and then it's a quick stomp because one team has 12 people and the other has 3, then back to queues.

There aren't community servers to pick up the slack, tons of shitty ones running maps like orange, or it's a 32man shitfest.

You have to keep track of fifteen different things at once; crit heals, positioning, uber advantage, uber counting, heal order, when to push/fall back. You have to keep three to eleven different people alive while the entirety of the enemy team wants your aryan head on a pike and would gladly suicide just to kill you. You have to keep track of any roaming spies, stay out of sightlines, and if you so much as misstep, someone is gonna flame you for being a shit medic even if you're the only reason he made it to an 80 ks in the first place not to mention the Vaccinator, the most complicated gun in tf2.

I rarely play sniper but I do fair as him. Every class needs situational awareness and mechanics. Sniper needs this too, but he isn't directly in the front lines. He's in the back safe at spawn popping shots are targets. He's a very linear class.

If you're going to talk about skill and skill ceilings, you need to make clear whether you're referring to mechanical skills or strategic skills known as game sense. Cultivating mechanical skills and game sense in TF2 are two separate categories with some classes requiring more of one than the other.

Sniper is generally agreed upon to have high amounts of mechanical skill with some modicum amount of game sense necessary. Knowing how to countersnipe matters But being able to headshot moving targets consistently and not tilt under pressure is mostly a mechanical issue.

sorry homeboys, pyro has one of the highest skill ceilings. if not THE highest. that's why comp players rarely play him, he's too risky because he's so difficult to play

any rocket/sticky jump or airshot demo and soldier can do, the pyro can do as well. with stricter timing and only when the enemy allows it, meaning you have to react faster than when you can jump at will my dudes. all scout can do is pressing spacebar twice and spamming AD with his epic null-canceling script. that's all there is to scout movement. no rocket jumps, no pogo, no headshots, nothing. even fucking engineer offers more movement options with sentry jumps.

scout mains are almost as bad as soldier mains, get your head out of your asses. play some unreal tournament or quake and realize that your 'skill' is negligible, worthless scout mains. sniperfags are even worse, he has no movement abilities at all.

medic, demo and pyro are the only respectable classes.

Why does Valve even try with TF2 any more?

They keep trying to make the game 'more accessible' to new players and yet they don't really make it all that inviting.
If the 18GB download size doesn't turn new players off of it, the terrible optimization will. Unless you use a top-of-the-line CPU or a config, you'll struggle to make TF2 run at a playable framerate. The typical F2P likely doesn't have a decent CPU, and Valve actively discourages using configs, considering all the sv_pure restrictions they've added to casual servers and the fact that you can't use a config at all in comp.
If you do manage to get the game to run, you're instantly met with a hundred weapons and match-ups to learn and no tutorial to figure it out (the in-game tutorial has been broken for years). Try to jump into a casual server and you're met with rampant hackers, friendlies who seem to have no interest in playing, and horribly stacked teams, meaning you'll either be carried by your team or unable to leave spawn, either way you won't be improving much or learning.
And in the interest of making the game more 'newb-friendly' they've all but killed off community servers and the competitive match-making mode is nothing but a slap to the face of the actual competitive community with a hand-written note saying 'we don't care about your contributions to this game'.

When faced with declining interest in TF2, Valve had to make a decision: Do we try to bring in new players, or do we make sure the old ones stick around for good? They seem to have chosen neither, instead opting to work on VR while more and more people leave TF2 in favor of literally anything else.

if this game wants to balance classes it should look to not only change the raw attributes of the classes, but also change the design of the maps currently used to better accommodate these classes

scout may be considered the strongest class in the game right now but you will be hard pressed to find a scout doing anything on dustbowl for example

if you want to continue using cp maps that are built with the movement capabilities of the best classes in mind, you cannot complain when classes that lack mobility or range are not as effective
(not implying that dustbowl is a good map, but that it is part of what the game and its classes were originally built upon; cramped chokepoints, set offensive and defensive positions/healthpack placements, and low skyboxes)
