You know I don't miss archangel at all, you know why? I'm playing a new Long War campaign right now. Speaking of which I did some ini edits to cheat make the game more fun. I put the arcthrower in the pistol slot. I want to make one more item available to the pistol slot but I'm not sure what. Can't be nades, medkit, laser/scope, target module, that radar thing or battlescanners. I think only the arcthrower is truly ellible since it doesn't stuff things up. Any ideas???

The other ini edit cheat is making certain small items 0 weight, like the laser pointer, but not sure what else.

Ask me anything!

When you think about, the end of x2 is equivalent to:
>Al qaeda is able to blow up cities and military bases all across america
>they then broadcast a video showing the American government is planning to kill everyone
>everyone in America joins up with Al qaeda to overthrow the government

I mean really, who is the advent sympathizer really going to side with? Us? The video could be fake for all they know. And advents been pretty great for the last 20 years
>>
>>174525302
I usually end up with a vertical row of fission - thermo - fission - fission (obviously need to be lucky with steam on the last column on the left/right, but hey, you might get even luckier and actually have 2 adjacent steams and work with that), with the last two hopefully being upgraded into elerium generators as soon as possible. Don't be afraid to build disposable generators in reserved spots with intention to delete them later, it's only $120.
>>
>>174527293
Just that? 3 big generators and one small, not even with a square bonus?
>>
>>174527605
I might be mistaken because it's been at least 6 months since I last played long war but if you complete that column it should provide well over 100 power (even more if you upgrade the last fission into elerium which I never even had to do unless my memory is fucked), that's enough to get well past midgame. I seem to always roll the worst placements with my steam vaults and I consider it pretty much default that I have a random thermal somewhere in my workshop square and simply never build a second workshop so not only are my bases kinda fucked but my sense of how much power should optimally be available is fucked as well. Don't really know why I thought I should be giving advice.
>>
so for the retaliation missions: do you get a bonus for rescuing more than the minimum of civilians?
>>
>>174531192
Yes. I believe increased region funding.
>>
>>174525302

>>
If I'm randoming a class in LW1, there's bonus chance for the soldier to become the class I have least of. What happens if I have multiple rare classes with equal numbers?
>>
>>174538052
Then it's an even chance, because no one would get a bonus.
>>
>>174538234
That's unfortunate. Does it also disable the bonus if the rarest class is the one you're randoming from? Ex. you're randoming from rocketeer/gunner hoping to get a medic, you have 1 rocketeer, 2 medics, 3 of everything else
>>
>>174538872
It shouldn't. Medic should be most likely in that case.

>>174526628

In a recent Campaign, I did the Alien Hunters DLC with Powered Armor, Plasma Weapons, a Paladin ranked Spark Unit, and a team of all Colonels of each specialization. These were the Highlights.

>When the Ambush started, I had my Sniper use the grappling hook of their Wraith Suit to get high ground and used that to Faceoff a majority of the Vipers within the first turn, followed by playing cleanup with the rest of the squad and after that, the Vipers were dead for that part.

>Before moving up to trigger the reveal of the Viper King, I made a firing line with my units before sending my Spark Unit (Who has Hunter's Instinct) to trigger the reveal.

>When we encountered Viper, I used the Shredder Gun equipped to my Spark Unit to eradicate their armor

>When I moved my Gunner up to freeze bomb him, the Viper shot an Ice blast at my Ranger and Specialist, freezing them both but I retaliated with the said Freeze Bomb.

>With the Viper frozen, I had my Sniper, who was already on the High ground. Deadeye the Snek with a Talon Round, greatly weakening his health.

>Next up was Bradford, who I moved up to shoot, the freeze bomb effect fading and releasing the viper king, Bradford shot and did the basic damage from his assault rifle but the king had like seven health left.

>The Viper summoned a gate behind my Spark, Grenadier, and Central.Bradford's shot ended my turn, Thats when the Viper made a mistake.

>He dashed forward to the Portal, towards my Spark, Bradford, and the Grenadier.

>Cue Bladestorm.jpg

>Bradford killed him with that Bladestorm and we won, flawlessly.

People's attempts to rank class importance usually ends in tears. Neglecting any of them is a mistake.

define important
for example if I'm trying to win the game with only 4 of the non-mec classes, I'd take scout over sniper, and probably engineer over rocketeer [crucial to avoid early terror missions ending in tears]
>>
>>174566056
And snipers don't?
>>
>>174566239
They actually need less than infantry. I'm not saying snipers are more important than infantry.
>>

>>174565745
He doesn't look like a goblin right now desu. Maybe he realized it's just his camera making him look like shit and bought a good one

>>174565847
It's stupid to directly compare them. But hidden potential exploited 19 mobility high aim scout with hit and run is my favorite. Along with ITZ airborne sniper. Because fuck airborne enemies
>>
>>174565962
Infantry aren't important, as in if you go without you won't regret it, not saying they aren't useful for damage output but you need those 4 to stop casualties and to destroy certain ayys.
>>174566153
I mean you should have those as your highest ranking soldiers. Infantry are useful even as a SPEC, Engineers are useful early as soon as you have sapper.
Medics can be a tough one since they are useful but damage output is more useful until psi becomes a thing.

So in conclusion those 4 are most important to be your highest ranking soldiers/most kills.
>>
>>174566239
I can see a justification for snipers based almost entirely on their ability to equip the gauss long rifle. Another thing with infantry is that scouts can be built to be a very similar soldier with some more utility - earlygame marksman rifle is comparable firepower to two AR shots, midgame low profile is similar to BR+hunker, then you get hit and run..
>>
>>174566615
I feel like infantry scale pretty hard with rank.
>>
>>174566665
This.

Those HitnRun frontline scouts with a HitnRun Assault is the best front, especially with a FTH Rocketeer and Sapper engineer, and steadied Sniper.

A HEAT engineer could alright since drones and seekers can situationally be naded especially in tight building scenarios.

60 years from now when you're on your deathbed, are you going to more fondly remember a twitch stream about some obscure turn-based computer game played by a balding sectoid man, or a lifetime of gainful employment in the real world?

the correct answer is the stream.
>>
>>174569539
I've considered using it since losing an engineer's rifle isn't too costly anyway. But by the time I unlock it I've already gotten a good amount of captures and usually have more important gear waiting for resources, so I never set aside the cash for it.

>>174573104
Sounds just right if it's for the arc thrower only, but he said total with two items. So he's basically getting a free item when he uses arc thrower. Brutal lol.

>>174575427
The guy with the arc thrower is exactly the one guy in the team who is guaranteed NOT going to be shooting his pistol to wound the ayy. Because he has to use his turn to attempt the capture.
>>
>>174581740
>I think I can trick them into flanking themselves by revealing the nader to them on one side while packing the squad on the otherside.
Never do this if it's your activation move. Outsiders [maybe all pods? not sure, but outsiders definitely do this] move as if they know where everyone is on their activation move. So if you try some ebin 8-point infiltration against even a single outsider, chances are it will find exactly the one soldier that's most isolated and run to a position that flanks him, in the process also getting far enough away from everyone else that you need to double move to be in firing range, removing any hope of first round kill.

I wanted to finish the "Wraith update" before the weekend started but i didn't quite manage, so here's a preview of the new helmets that are going to come when i update the mod with the Wraith armor.

There's a "Ballistic" mask which i decided to just name "Wraith" mask instead of "protective", the ballistic mask comes in 3 variants, just the mask, the mask with a fancy eye add-on, and the mask with a fancy eye add-on that glows. There's a hood that is available on all 3 slots for maximum customization potential(i also plan to add the hood to at least one wraith torso for even more customization, might also add it to a warden suit piece somewhere), a knightly helmet and the cyclopeanish looking visor/goggles that i had posted before. The knight helmet also has a variant with glowing eyes, and the visor has one with no glowing eye.

my headcanon is that psi can transfer information about energy but not energy itself. Which means that you can seemingly create it, but you're actually using the energy that already is there.
So mind control is just psi-op making the brain of the victim work the way he wants it to work and more offensive abilities (rift/null lance) are just destroying molecular structures.
but it stops working when you add in psi teleport ability that avatars and codexes have, so it's sci-fi magic

LW2 is extremely ambitious with what it tries to do and is not balanced well atm.
LW2 changes pretty much everything about perks but adds a lot of new ones as well as new classes.
Balances the enemies a bit and adds new variants
Pretty much changes everything in the strategy layer
Compared to vanilla X2 its pretty much a different game but I feel like it gets a bit too much hate for not being the same jump as EW to LW1
imo if you like X2 then go and check it out. it does balance stuff to answer your question but it adds more than enough to compensate for that

>garbage hit chances
>clumped pods

>longer research
>infiltration mechanic
>enemy AI
>focus on timed missions
>doesn't seem to prioritize missions for things you need like the base game

It honestly drops you right into the thick of things with barely a paddle. The first mission I had to fight 4 pods of roughly 4 guys each with only 4 rookies. It wasn't fun and with the rebalance to hit rolls, it was damn near unplayable even on normal. In it's base state, it is an absolute piece of shit. Luckily there are some folks who have made mod adjustments to it that greatly alleviate the problems. There's a few of them and I'd recommend looking into them if you want to try out LW2.

As >>174608775 says, it's very ambitious and I can see the potential in it, unfortunately it's very poorly implemented.

When you're point blank flanking with only an 80% chance to hit that's fucking bull shit. And shots that normally would be in the 60-80% range are now 12%... yeah fuck that.

I'm not bad at XCOM, I know the difference between "oh I went in and triggered a pod on accident" to "why are there 4 pods 5 feet away from each other on my second turn?" I never felt cheated by triggering a pod in the base game because I knew it was my fault for either pushing ahead too much or taking too long to kill a tougher pod... this is different though. Literally 1 to 2 moves in and I'm running into 2-4 pods at a time. That's not fun and it makes me feel cheated

I've had 0 engineers/scientist missions come up in the 3 games I've created and I would buy them from the market except I don't have any fucking supplies because I don't get those missions either.

I understand it's a longer campaign, but when I'm not getting any scientists, the longer research is detrimental.

As i said though, there are several mods that fix some of these problems and after installing them I'm having a much better time.

They are actually hard coded to give you engi/scientist missions in the first month. Put everyone on Intel and make sure to Intel scan with Avenger.
>>
>>174615610
I'll try this, thanks

I don't think that's the case though. In my current game I'm on month 2 and still have 0 scientists and only 1 engineer because I had to buy him from the market.
>>
>>174616204
It should be the case at least for 1.2. But you can miss the mission if you don't have enough intel, just like every other mission.
>>
>>174614976
>When you're point blank flanking with only an 80% chance to hit that's fucking bull shit.
because rookies can't hit shit. and 80% seems about right: 65(base aim)+20(range bonus) = 85
also: rifles aren't for close combat

>And shots that normally would be in the 60-80% range are now 12%... yeah fuck that.
because the AI will not charge you brainlessly. they will instead get to high cover and low cover is also slightly better than vanilla

>I'm not bad at XCOM, I know the difference between "oh I went in and triggered a pod on accident" to "why are there 4 pods 5 feet away from each other on my second turn?" That's where difficulty through obscurity hits. you're not supposed to fight every enemy every mission. you have to exploit concealment with a smaller squad to both reduce the number of enemies as well as improving your stealth capability. this is currently the biggest complaint about LW2 - the fact that you can stealth most missions and they're more strategically more viable than trying to fight them. theyre working on a fix so hopefully it will be better in 1.3
>As i said though, there are several mods that fix some of these problems and after installing them I'm having a much better time.
good for you then. I was also messing around with inis to make 2 squaddie 4 rookie against ex. light missions viable
>>
>>174616632
>because rookies can't hit shit.
They can in LW1. Pretty sure point blank gives you 100% shots with assault rifles. It's a valid complain, completely unrelated to "gitting gud." Of course, this doesn't even factor in grazing. There is always a fine line between randomness in fights and mechanics that guarantee results so you can plan around them. Too much guaranteed damage and you get vanilla xcom. Too much randomness and you get LW2 imo.

I can confirm, LW1 rifles did get very close to 100% on point blank, easily reaching it with ranked soldiers or talented rookies.

>>174616632
>also: rifles aren't for close combat
But this part is more important. In LW1 you could equip shotguns on half the classes, whereas that's not really true in LW2. I think there's a significant downgrade in flexibility in general. You know, LW1 you're choosing between SMG, carbine, rifle, battle rifle, shotgun, all of those are available to engineers, medics, infantry and assault. Not all are viable, you'll never put an SMG on an infantry, but 2-3 are valid choices for most random soldiers.

And that's just for primary weapon, you're usually making meaningful choices for items as well. When I'm gearing my LW1 infantry I'll consider expanded mags, scope, targeting sensor, medkit [when dealing with mints], alloy plate, sometimes even drum mag or a grenade early game. And that list was different for the different classes. LW2 in contrast had like four viable items for most soldiers, flashbang, armor, he grenade, flashbang. Though balancing may have improved that and will hopefully improve it further.
>>
>>174617735
im pretty sure in LW2 you can give shotguns for everyone but snipers and gunners (and maybe shinobi). the issue is more with shotguns getting nerfed to the ground in LW2. I remember equipping everybody with shotguns on LWPP because there was very little reason not to.

>downgrade in flexibility
this is more of an issue with X2 deciding to move stuff like this to weapon mods
if pavonis overhauled the weapon mods so they're a bit more complex than flat stat bonuses that would make it better

as for smgs/carbines/etc. I can understand them trying to streamline the weapon choices but I agree that LW2 is missing some choices when it comes to primary weapons. there's no middle ground between smgs that do no damage and rifles that fuck your mobility and shotguns that fuck your mobility and are useless unless you're standing next to the enemy.

shotguns haven't been nerfed, the range bonuses and penalties are the same as vanilla. If anything they've got a buff from the higher maximum damage.
>>
>>174629921
>the range bonuses and penalties are the same as vanilla
Are you sure? I was pretty confident the range penalties were changed to make shotguns suffer at range more.
>>
>>174630119
They do relative to enemy within. In enemy within range bonuses were about 50% higher (mulitplicatively) across the board and took trigonometry into account for angled shots.

XCOM 2 simplifies it by making shotguns get double the rifle bonus. (e.g. +40/+20 at one tile, +32/16 two tiles, etc.)
>>
>>174630119
>>174630495
I should add that that's vanilla behavior. What you're likely perceiving is a combination of NCE and more enemies having innate defense and/or tac sense.

In fact I think they might be buffing shotgun range bonuses if one of the tester's youtube series is anything to go by.

When LW2 was released there was a graze band infographic. I don't play X2 so take this with a grain of salt, but the graze band is supposed to be 10% above and below your hit chance. So if it says 40%, it's actually 30% hit, 20% graze, 50% miss. Similarly for 100%, that's actually 90% hit, 10% graze. Maybe the chance goes away if you boost yourself to 110% but I doubt it, and there's still dodge rolls for demotion.
>>
>>174645618
This makes me even more pissed because theoretically she had a 117% chance, 107% is still not good enough.
>>
>>174645618

Never lose the style, Beagle.
>>
>>174662243
Depends on the build

low profile is the weakest choice imo

if you're going for a SS+LnL+ITZ build you might want to consider deadeye over lone wolf

I find ITZ works best on terror missions, and since your squad isn't really that split up in such missions it may be beneficial to take deadeye to make nuking drones, floaters, disks and seekers that much easier
>>
>>174662243
I take deadeye early game. It's the only way to get it before floaters show up, and a big help in April that stays strong throughout the game. Lone wolf for crit snipers later on
>>
>>174662795
>>174662850

Interesting points. I sometimes equip a sniper with marksman rifle and they stay just at the back of the squad, low profile comes in handy in this case since both the scout and snipe can occupy low cover. The thing is deadeye really helps against finishing off or even activating flying pods and lone wolf + targeting module will almost nullify the negative crit chances of squadsight.

I'm used to picking low profile since I like using marksman rifle and keeping the squad together, but I guess I should build a ITZ sniper, in that case lone wolf or deadeye?
>>
I guess lone wolf for GLR mayhem sniper and deadeye for ITZ?
>>
>>174663493
Like I said, deadeye is big for cleaning up floaters drones and other bullshit.

But I build two kinds of sniper, 3 ITZ and 2 Crit snipers. Both are good but I like ITZ a lot for time sensitive missions.
>>
>>174663739
Yeah that's what I'd do, but both are good.
>>
Ok what class is best as officer? Gunner?
>>
>>174663493
I don't see a reason to use marksman snipers past the early game. Scouts do everything better - you get an earlier ITZ, you get an extremely useful lightning reflexes, you only lose one slot because of the marksman scope. And the scout is probably better suited for that near-frontline job, at least for me scouts have a lot of health to tank anything that goes through LR whereas snipers will often need health-boosting items if there's a remote possibility of something running overwatch, spotting them and shooting at them.

Marksman snipers are good in the early game because you get deadeye which is very strong and not available for scouts at that point. If you put low profile on that sniper he's no longer preferable to a marksman scout.
>>
>>174664326
You are correct. But I use both, one doesn't replace the other. The main reason I like marksman snipers is because of dense forest or urban environments have so many LOS issues and there also isn't always high cover up front, so a marksman sniper with low profile is a good back of the squad addition without using up cover, is safe and close to the squad (from seekers or floater launch) etc
>>
>>174664224
Depends how much you value using command. Any high will builds that are around the middle of your squad works on people that will regulary go on missions. However they also can make good psi (like medics) or are good to be commanded (like engis with repair for captures)
>>
>>174665563
Well my gunners end up with +7 will and are usually zhang and van doorn who I think also get a slight will bonus already.
>>
>>174666014
I think it's mainly about command. I make them exclusively from LMG gunners and infantry because I don't have trouble commanding with those classes. Whereas commanding with a rocketeer would be a waste since that's exactly the guy I want taking as many actions as possible in a crisis.

So comrades. How sentient are ADVENT in your mind? Fully mind controlled drones merely in a humanoid form? Mind slave obedient dogs of the Elders? Or psionically binded slaves literally unable to resist and cannot scream.

Additionally how do you head canon Faceless? Just outright shapeshifters that impersonate people? Do they consume people whole & literally copy their memories to better impersonate them? Or are the minds of the replaced replicated into the faceless to make them "Perfect" copies that are unknowning of thier status until activated as sleeper agents by ADVENT psionic command (which i think is funnest).

Presumably they're at least half as smart as a human or a sectoid as they're made of both of them. I'm sure we could get some ADVENT qt's by the next game as they're all regulated to second class citizens while most know that the troopers never had a choice. Though hated by many perhaps their fervor in fighting the alien would even supersede XCOM's as they fight against those who enslaved them body, mind & soul. I know i usually have a bunch of "freed" or converted ADVENT in every run i do.

On the whole it's a shame we don't get much worldbuilding or background fluff about the ayys
Mutons: Probably sentient on the whole but completely indoctrinated for probably generations with extreme loyalty & zealotry. They probably have some Valhalla analogue while their level of skill, intelligence & free will probably increases with their rankings with Muton Elites maybe surpassing humans in most rating other than intelligence due to skill, experience & augmentation.

Sectoids: In my mind totally sentient though under strict psionic control in EU/EW. I imagine them as almost henchmen or goblin like mentalities when alone. Though pectoids are more Alpha in most respects, greater intelligence, free reign & they seem to frequently lead squads. Admittedly if they deployed in similar numbers to EU they'd be a real force to be worried about also
>have bellybuttons & are human hybrids
You know that them pectoids are getting laid 24/7 drowning in sympathizer strange.

Archons: Probably actually humans, just floaterized & mindwiped to be more a biological machine for ADVENT. They're more meant to be seen & used as a strike force than really anything else. Perhaps a psionic honor system.

Chyrissids: Legit probably just as an intelligent as most animals & slave to some sort of hivemind or whatever psionic inhibitors or implants guide them so they don't slaughter ADVENT troops & kill every civilian they sense.

I'm curious on what the Muton's native atmosphere is, they only seem to need a rebreather and they're good to go. Or maybe the mask serves another purpose since their relatives the Berserkers don't require masks but that could be because they're genetically engineered to hell and back.

True. Which is why its more likely its a result of the genetic engineering.
Perhaps Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, or Nitrogen triggers a neurological response for them that makes them so pissed off so they engineered them to be able to breathe our atmosphere.

Now that I think about it the Ayys in XCOM are probably one of the most coldly militaristic alien empires I've seen in vidya. Every species the Elders encountered were enslaved into their military force and then either subjected them to generations of selective genetic engineering or hacked them to pieces and replaced what they took off with cybernetics. Then cloned the species when they got the results they desired. To go alongside that they're either mentally conditioned to be loyally obedient or psionically controlled/influenced to be so.
Not even the Covenant went that far with the species that joined them and they all were rallying behind a religious goal (a false one but still).
This is Combine Empire tier.

Does a woman exist that doesn't want to run and ruin my life simultaneously? I skype dated for a couple of years with this one chick, and what I noticed was she would be mad if I said I feel like playing (insert game, usually Long War or LoL), but ok if I said I wanted to just watch some TV. It got to the point I just said I had to rest but really I was playing Long War which to me is like resting I guess.

I really dislike most people since they seem so demanding. Where the heck did all the people go who were chill and up for anything or just nothing, I used to have a huge group like that, but then again those people wouldn't even know how to use a PC or spend anytime on one. Is it too high standards to want a girl who would give games like Long War a go and is also chill as fuck not always needing to do something or go out? I clubbed and partied hard but I always hated that shit, my fondest memories are playing xbox games with girlfriends and mates and having a BBQ or whatever, sometimes just napping the arvo away. Also having someone in the room while playing something like XCOM is just as good.

First and foremost the expansion needs to fix LOS. But next, adding flying simply as a mechnic back into the game is paramount. Nothing flys in X2, it sucks.
Arguably, nothing flies in X2 because they were having trouble with broken LOS and probably things going through floors and ceilings. If they fixed LOS first though, this would not be much of an issue.

After playing long war for 30 hours this week I can safely say that XCOM2 is a huge blunder. Nothing new is good. Bout the only thing that improved was the graphics but the frame drops and AA is disgusting. The AA is made worse by highlighted edges or whatever that sharpening effect bs that is.
I would have like to see experimentation in XCOM2, such as using uknown tech or items on soldiers or weapons resulting in random effects, actual varied useable loot and way more ayys that are actually 100% ayy not that unimaginative partially human garbage.

Hesitating between gunners, shoguns, goliaths and valkyries.

Gunners aren't MECs so they cost a lot less to get going but plasma SAW is just laughably bad. (Steady weapon? Really?)
Shoguns are the only one of the four to get deadeye but from my experience deadeye isn't enough to let them reliably hit heavy floaters. Even my sharpshooters have issues getting above 80% on those things. If I really wanted to go full retard shogun is even able to stack shredder ammo with HEAT, though I'm not entirely sure that's worth giving up Absorption Fields for.
Goliath is interesting because it's made from chopping gunners. I could use regular gunners all the way to plasma and then once I get the really dumb MEC weapon with +1 to mechanicals I can chop the gunners. The con being that goliaths have the worst aim.
Valkyries have the best aim (though they can't use neural gunlinks) and potentially the highest damage output per turn with light 'em up rapid fire.

I'm basically for something that demolishes mechanical units as hard as pathfinders demolish organic units.
>>
>>174759638
Rocketeer MSGT
>>
>>174759638
The answer is heat rapdifire gunners always versusu single targets. Nothing slays mechanical units more consistently.
Shotguns are trash against mechanicals. Snipers only shine with the GLR. Goliaths don't do damage, they are tanks. Valkries are the runners up, but they aren't as useful as gunners and have low ammo. For packs of mechanicals, heat rocketeers.
>>
>>174759638
Critfantry and crit rape snipers.

Give them a GLR, mayhem and precision shot and you can kiss that enemy goodbye.

>>
>>174760030

The sniper idea is really interesting. I was already sometimes using gauss with flak ammo to ITZ entire pods of heavy floaters but the idea of turning that into a single target focused build is something I didn't consider. Thanks.

I'm finishing XCOM 2 today, don't think I'm gonna back for a long time but I have the itch to go back to first game. I finished EU on C/I, only played early game in EW, and now want to try Long War.
Question is : Should I finish EW first, then go Long War ? I really want to skip the hassle an directly go to Long War, but don't really know EXALT missions or much about MECs. Would I get fucked ?

Just play and learn Long War there is a learning curve where you are bound to restart campaigns.

EW won't help you that much with the changes LW made to MECs, so just go straight to Long War and remember that EGGSALT has off switches scattered all over the map for ez wins.

I've never really sympathized with people bitching about capture chances. With more than a dozen mission per month you don't even need to pick out specific aliens or take risks. As long as you bring a repair engineer to most missions opportunities keep presenting themselves.

Missions with outsiders are rarer but you still get 2-3 months between the point where captures are available and the point where a base assault is a good idea, that's so many opportunities that it's not really worth worrying about.

Gotta go fast. Your strongest classes will be rangers and grenadiers. Build rangers for shotguns and stealth. Always have one specialist for objecitve play. Spec for combat abilities. Tier 2 weapon rush is still the got to, but because of research times, you can pick up a few early game techs first. For base, it is Guerilla Warfare then Advanced warfare center. You need to contact regions asap to get to objectives like avatar facilities and the blacksite. Do story missions/objectives or avatar facilities once the AVATAR timer fill up. You can get flashbangs right from the start in X2. They are very strong as they disable all enemy abilites and interrupt psi abilites and have a huge AOE. Concealment is to move as fast as possible to position yourself well to kill the first pod. You can't actually sneak to anything in Vanilla, the enemy pods will patrol into you. Abuse explosives as per usual. Swords are too risky. You still want to stack aim and alpha strike the enemy. Make sure to get the black market and take advantage of it's deals. You need engis to clear out rooms for free supplies. Overwatch is now removed by damage.

MECs keep the aim they had when you chopped them, but have a shitty aim progression (low stat gains per level). It's actually best to take a sniper Colonel (105 aim) and chop him if you're gonna MEC anyone.

>>
>>174835161
NCE lets you optimize your soldiers, so if you're paying the slightest amount of attention when ranking up it's a boost for the player [especially with commanders choice but even without]. Hidden Potential is the same except you have no control over it beyond moving bad rolls out of the A-team. personally I don't like it because it adds a lot of petty accounting to soldier management and I feel that it removes some of the depth to class choices [sometimes I'll make 3-health soldiers gunners/engineers to fortify their health for example]

Why did Beagle pick Xenobiology to research first? Was is to get council requests? Wouldn't he also have to do the autopsies as well losing some valuable time and pushing back lasers about a month?
>>
>>174843465
sectoid corpses become council requests with just xenobiology. You can get lasers quicker going xeno first
>>
>>174843891
Technically you get lasers around the same time, but get everything ELSE after that faster.

don't be mean
>>
>>174844891

so

Xenobio > sectoid autopsy > alien weapons >beam weapons

Takes the same amount of time as

Allien weapons > beam weapons?
>>
>>174739264
Hmmmmmmm
>>
>>174846145
NO

xeno> alien weaponry > beam is the standard. UFO research is also very important.
>>
>>174846145
You don't need to throw sectoid autopsy in there.
>>174845536
Rude.
>>
>>174846145
neglecting sectoid autospy, yes

maybe even better; and it prevents research progress being delayed by lack of scientists
>>
>>174846361

Ok so it takes the same amount of time due to the scientist boost and not because of research credits
>>
>>174846771
yes, the research credit only comes from the interrogation which requires even more research to even get to

although in long war I think the sectoid research credit is cybernetics, not beam weapons. mutons I know give gauss for sure
>>
>>174846771
The thing is that unlike other alien corpses, you don't need to autopsy sectoids to receive them. Every other alien requires you to do the autopsies to get council requests.

It was some contest where you submit your squad or something and you would win an XCOM medal. Only eligible in the US.

The idea behind Phoenix Point is a little different this time around. The story goes that there was a virus sleeping under the ice for centuries that humans discovered, and it infects Earth's life by mixing it with the DNA of other life forms--it's more along the lines of The Thing than the grey extraterrestrials we know and love. That's why a lot of the monsters have human faces combined with tendrils and claws, like The Thing.

new thread when?

That should have been XCOM2 and turns out the volunteer is there already setting up a base and intel, on a local moon, sent a message back to earth asking for help. She (male) has to use all their psi power to keep the base a secret. It's an actual Long War this time where you setup families that breed like a more advanced fallout shelter. Some of the missions are to hunt local ayys for food until the hydroponics setup is established.

I have a rare genetic disease and lately the effects have become severe. Treatment is only available in the states but will be available here in a few years. I'm so fucked up today I can barely even play some Long War.

Shiit, that's awful. Makes me wish we had those gene treatments like in the XCOM games :( Is it terminal, or will the medecine come to your country before things get too bad?

This would be fine if Pavonis could be assed to add a mod settings option to set the Laser's tier.

I've checked the ini's before, nothing in there to change the research path, only how much they cost to build and stats.

Its A Better ADVENT 2, so its a pretty damn big Ayy mod. I imagine he didn't want it pulled from the Workshop over literally 1 enemy type.

Can I add nipples myself without downloading that 40 gb modding tools

ABA2. Its not an Archon replacer mod or anything, look at the 3rd one in the back.

Archon's were designed by the ayys to be regal to appear as a godlike figure of authority to the now conquered humanity.
