Wood Elves are not from Athel Loren, they are any colonists from Ulthuan who remained after the War of the Beard. Outside of Athel Loren, there are Wood Elves in the Drakwald, Chalons, Laurelorn, Sussurio, Dukhlys, and the Cursed Jungle. Whether or not they get added is up to CA, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Why would there be problems for lords? CA uses generic lords for most factions anyway and is quite willing to add in new fluff or changes to balance the game. Adding in factions from Warhammer I would also give people more incentive to buy all the games and DLC because of the interconnection.

No. Wood Elves outside of Athel Loren have been retconned as being outposts or raiding parties searching for Beastmen, not full blown Elven kingdoms like they were 20 years ago. Then basically anything works. A few things -

1. You'll want to tech up to knights of the realm asap, once you get them you don't really need peasants due to their staying power and you'll probably come to hate peasants.

2. If you want/feel forced to use peasants, you will need the dead grandpa on a stick unit. Always keep a level 2 grail chapel SOMEWHERE just so you can recruit one of these shits. They are absolutely necessary if your peasants need to stay in melee for any real amount of time.

3. If, for whatever fucking reason, the french vampires are going too ham and you feel they're unstoppable a foolproof strat is to get a lord and recruit 15-19 mounted archers. Then, when they fight you, you set everything to skirmish, put your lord in some trees, and afk. Once you run out of ammo, retreat everyone. You'll get a "valiant defeat" and the enemy will be completely decimated while(if you did it right) you've maybe lost 5 peasants.

This is thanks to the fact that due to retarded AI, the french vampires really only ever field giant armies of basic skellies and zombies.

Yes and no. Mousillon is fucked and not fucked for the following reasons:

1. It literally starts out the game as a tier 3 settlement, with walls, crypts, and I can't remember the 3rd building (balefire?) but it's not important. This means they have a huge advantage at the start, esp. with walls, however...

2. Because they have crypts and ONLY crypts as a military building, along with no armory, they can only recruit zombies, spearmen, and skelly warriors.

As a result, the french vampires just run around with giant spooky stacks hoping that they get some battlefields to raise higher tech undead from. If their 3rd building was either the tree building or a basic armory we would see a far more terrifying Mousillon running around with either bats, wolves & vargheists or grave guard.

For a while in my game, due to an accident on my part they took over Bastonne after I took Mousilion, but I didn't give them much of a chance to do anything with it - I beseiged it as soon as possible.

But yeah, overall Mousilion is a little disappointing, since it's treated as a minor settlement next to Lyonesse instead of getting to be its own capital. In my games they've just camped around Mousilion rather than try to conquer any other territory.

Honestly I think the region of Brettonia needs a few more settlements, because as-is not all the Dukedoms are in the game and everything that is in the game has only two regions. This is a pretty severe drawback to the AI as they can't reliably specialize provinces. If even a few provinces had an extra region or two I think we'd see a much more dangerous Brettonia.

I enjoy Warhammer sieges, I really disliked the capture point shite they did for Attila and Rome II

what I don't like is all the units in WH starting off with ladders and the squished-back claustrophobic style of it, but I actually DO, unlike many, enjoy the rapid firing archer towers that force you to close with the AI rather than sit back and bombard them (inb4 muh realism)

The problem with the archer towers is when I can't do anything with the units that are getting shot at. For instance, as Bretonnia, if I'm ever sieging, my knights will always take a lot of damage since I have to wait for the gate to open up before I can use them, and no matter how far I bring them back or try to hide them in trees, they will get shot at. Trebuchets are the same deal, as well as grail reliquaes. The only way I can avoid them getting shot at is to stick them under the walls somewhere between the towers, and hope the enemy doesn't have archers or spellcasters.

I know it's just me and that others will use the bombard tactic, but in most Total War games I've never been a fan of using siege equipment to take out towers and such, since that's something I'll have to pay for when I take the settlement. And I really don't enjoy the automatic garrisons, which half the time are crappy or make use of units I never want to use (like Yeomen).

Ghorst gets summon Grave Guard, that shit is cash. He's a souped-up necromancer and easier than shit to unlock early on, also giving a research time reduction. I can't be the only one to have noticed this.

Whereas other lords have an easy time walking through the ranks of their own units due to their higher mass vampire lords seem to get stuck a lot.

I've also noticed that when I charge another lord with my horse mounted vamp lord they rarely get knocked over whereas vice-versa the other lord knocks the vamp over all the time.

Laddos, how long do I have to keep the vamp counts alive in the Empire campaign for quest purposes?

After getting the quest to assassinate an undead character, I'm worried that if I kill off the undead, I'd be unable to finish some legendary item pre-quest.

Do any of the later legendaries for karl, gelt or volkmar require undead involvement? Right now i"m keeping vamps alive in eschen and waldenhof as kind of an undead zoo just in case but worried some stunties will come and raze them and I'll find out that the last quest mission for the last item before the battle for volkmar will be "sack 2 undead towns" or something

Its funny, I used to love Attila. Got some 300 hours playing with a friend.

But now we've played Warhammer we just cant get back into it. 90% of fights are town fights which are boring as shit. The combat is a massive spear v spear grind. The first half of the game you will only have access to some really poor spear and sword troops, and the AI never uses the late game troops even when it has access to them. You can go 50+ turns without having a single battle in a field, and even longer without having a battle thats on a field and not one sided.

You also have troops that are downright better than all others, like pikes > everything and crossbows > everything. You can literally win every engagement ever by just having more pikes and more crossbows.

Also the campaign mechanics are a joke, and nothing gives me a better laugh than people saying warhammer is dumbed down in comparison. The family tree is literally worthless, you might have one instance of trying to adopt a random lord as a general and the rest of your time will be spending it trying to keep loyalty up. Sanitation is a joke, 2 wells in every province; fixed. Food is also a joke, as long as you have +0 then it doesnt matter at all.

Only thing ill give Attila over warhammer or other TW games is the fact you have more powerful factions. After even 100 turns you will have other factions that are still stronger than you, which gives you a nice amount of choice between attacking weak and larger factions. Warhams is just nothing but steamroll against weak factions from turn 1.

I really hate the combat overhaul that came with Rome 2 and continues in Warhammer. It's frequently hard to tell which unit is winning the fight, and exactly why they're winning or losing. Then combine that with moshpits and the super fast pace of combat and it turns into a huge mess.

That's how my Tokugawa campaign looked when shit went smoothly

Only difference is I never attacked Imagawa, they hated my guts because I was filthy rich compared to them but never dared to attack because of the diplomatic repercussions.

Meanwhile other factions were reluctant to declare war on me because Imagawa would be dragged into the conflict. Really dicked them over with my vassalage.

I think the drawback of chariots is that they're not great in sustained melee combat, they're also slower and less manoeuvrable than cavalry units.
Chariots should never be stood still, and with the AI being able to fully micro their units simultaneously, they are at an advantage

They're frustrating because their large mass allows them to push through lines of infantry, even if they get stuck - and Chaos brings so many of them, it's nearly impossible to keep them from flanking you unless you're bringing a lot of numbers or can tangle them up yourself somehow. They fuck up archers real bad especially.

Exactly. I never have much actual casualties from them when I played empire among the infantry of the line. The problem is they absolutely brutalize outriders, pistoliers are worthless to begin with, and they never get shattered. They always break and then come back with 1 dinky ass chariot to hit your artillery or archers and unless you stick half your army back there you won't really be able to stop them because they can push through.

And the funny thing is this army I faced absolutely brutalized me. It makes me think if I could make Chaos Kurgan horse archers it would be the most OP thing ever, or alternatively that wood elves are the perfect anti-chaos army. The only way I can imagine surviving against a kiting army as Chaos will be to have a single hellfire cannon you guard in a noob-box. A general/champion on a flying mount could try and snipe the horse archers but then they just concentrate fire on them. Direct fire magic would work but would be limited by mana and effect.

Depends on the specific years they choose to depict. The issue with >>173495290
is that if you go firm historicity it's terrible for total war, if you go semi loose historicity (Think Rome 2 covering 270 years) it gets better, if you go broad period or very loose historicity (think Medieval 2 being upwards of 440+ years since it starts before Hastings and ends with Cortez) then it becomes a solid choice. The reason is:

-No cavalry until 900-1000.
-No heavy cavalry until 600-700
-No camelry until 1000.
-No or little heavy/armored infantry outside of Egypt/Greece/Sea People until 700s-800s.
-Gap of Babylonian/Assyrian references between the Hammurabi era (half naked, little chariots) and Neo-Assyrian 800s-600s (abundant armor at the tail end of it).

But 600s-800s doesn't have the personality gravitas that 1200s does. Greeks just become hoplitefags with a bit of dipylon shields and chariots, not Iliadic.

Nah I meant that with the personality gravitas. Ramessess II, the Greek heroes and Trojan heroes, 2 centuries and you get David and Solomon.

But it's all chariots at Kadesh. The only depictions of people riding horses are messengers unarmed. There's even a contemporary or thereabouts Babylonian inscription of an advisor talking to his king that says he should ride in a chariot for maximum respectability, but alternatively walk or ride a donkey (sidesaddle?), but never ride a horse because that's unseemly for a king.

Horses at that point and time, or the tack to ride them, did not allow for a well armed or heavy rider. Even the early Assyrian 800s or so cavalry operated in tandem with one holding the reins of the other who aimed their bow.

Im gonna switch down to hard battle difficulty, this isnt enjoyable anymore.

It is bullshit but there's really not a better way to handle it, the AI gets increased leadership to make up for the fact it has the brain of a mite and can always be outplayed by the player. Until we can get skynet to play with us there's not a lot of options.

They're average in melee but god tier casters, especially when you stack a few.

I kept the 2 starter vamps with vlad purely to be mana batteries and later for vortex fun.

125 winds is pretty common, and I have enough mana recharging cds to generate 1 wind/sec until it's all gone.

2 armies, M8. Once you're done conquering your home province, build a second, smaller army to leave at home. Build walls everywhere (and make the Orcs pay for them. Some, I assume are good greenskins.) but even before then a small army combined with a basic garrison will be enough to chase the enemy raiders off or destroy them. I felt like an idiot because I couldn't get very far in the "easy" Dwarf campaign until I figured that out.

Now I've beaten Empire and greenies on hard, and I'm pretty well into my first midget very hard. Remember, don't expand past what you can defend. Shit will hit from the northeast in the endgame, so don't expand past the river to your north unless you have the money to fortify and defend the fuck out of it. I eventually ended up colonising Praag so my people would have a place to rest between chaos waves, but not until I had four armies in that area.
