A lot of people dislike Anders because his DA2 'version' is quite different from DAA Anders, on account of the fact he's technically no longer Anders but Vengeance, ie a corrupted Justice in Anders' body. He has an uncontrollable obsession with the mistreatment of mages that many read as "whiny" and "out of character", presumably because they skimmed over most of his Awakening dialogue that wasn't topkeks. His obsession can come off as "preachy" and desperate, if you don't agree with it. He gradually becomes further consumed by it, and eventually misleads and "betrays" Hawke (ymmv on the betrayal thing, depending how you were playing your Hawke) and there is no way to stop it, which understandably rubbed a lot of folk the wrong way since it felt like your choices in game just didn't matter at all. Interestingly enough, if you rivalmance him, he can be convinced into a more moderate mindset but reveals that he fights against Justice's urges, but ultimately cannot control him, and is forced against his will to act in a certain way.

Also some people are sexually threatened by romantic inclination in DA2 and the fact you take a minor disapproval penalty if you turn him down.

I wonder if it's on purpose that the dragon has replaced snakes with religious/mythological reference in the games. It makes it much more fantasy-related, so I guess that would make sense.

Not to start Bioware Defense Forcing here but for every downside I see someone whine about in ME:A, I see people ignore a lot of the positive upsides. Some facial animations look wonky, yea, but the movement in combat looks smoother, more dynamic and more fun than ever. Ryder runs like a real human at a manageable speed which, on top of the jump jets and dashing, is more than I can say for DA:I and ME3. I'm finally finishing ME3 now and I actually spend a lot of time running and gunning with the soldier's abilities and avoiding sticking to cover unless absolutely necessary. I'm excited for this to be a viable and dynamic aspect of ME:A combat.
The weapon/armor customization options for your squad mates are lacking but Ryder's customization options are greater than ever, including crafting gear, customizing your vehicles, picking powers from any tree and creating your own load outs. And it looks like it will deliver on exploration more than any Bioware game released yet. When I think of ME2 and 3, I don't mind how the squadmates armor was static, and once I equipped them with a certain weapon I liked I just upgraded it and never changed it. When I think of DA:I, I rarely gave my squad mates orders other than "stand here and please don't die". If they can deliver on fully realized and helpful squad mates in ME:A, I won't mind the lack of gear customization for them.
I'm optimistic for the game, not even cautiously optimistic.

I love Inquisition. I've seen a few compliants about this game, but honestly I think it outshines the other two Dragon Age games, in my opinion. I know the world is very open and there's sometimes just large spaces, but that is one reason why I enjoy this game. It feels more realistic that there isn't a quest every two feet or something interesting, and it's fun just exploring the whole map and collecting resources.
Also I love the characters in this game, I feel like their personalities are so well detailed, and not that everyone is the same character. Like the differences of characters from Varric to Iron Bull to Cullen, etc. And I'm glad every character has a flaw as well, even characters who seem perfect aren't a completely flawless.
Even if you don't choose to romance certain characters, you can still learn their backgrounds and help them through their personal quests. And even the "bad" guys make you feel for them because in all they're just doing what they feel is right or trying to support their cause/beliefs.
The choices in the game feel more like my choices, I've played through this twice now and the difference between playing as an elf vs a dwarf feels different. Despite some parts of this game being heavy or depressing, there is also a lot of humor and happiness that make me love this game even more.
I've never played a game like this that made me feel so attached to all the characters, even games like the Walking Dead which I enjoyed a lot, I felt I knew more of the characters better in Dragon Age.
Sorry if this just seems like a long rant/wall of text, this game just makes me really happy and I'm glad this game was produced. I can't wait until the next Dragon Age comes out, and I know it will be an amazing game because of how much hardwork is put into this game series.

If you have to get just one, definitely Trespasser. JoH is mostly flavor text about the Avvar and the original Inquisition, and Descent is good but the elements introduced might not become relevant any time soon, but Trespasser is the conclusion of DAI's plot so it's probably the most vital.

DO it anon. I mean first of all, your writing is always going to be at least 40% better than you personally think it is (unless you're some sort of egotistical spunker). We are always overly-critical of our own work because we see it closer that anyone else, we see all the faults and the awkward parts, and the pacing always feels a little bit off, and you can't really tell if it's boring or over-cooked or whatever. Readers only get a fraction of that, because its new and shiny to them.

Secondly, there are some real dumpster fires out there that people fucking love. Let me gesture wildly to shit like Twilight and 50 Shades. Genuinely bad writing. Awful. Grade A trash. Someone somewhere is always going to eat your shit with a silver spoon. Plus, writing more is literally the only way you're ever going to get better and that is that.

Ah, christ, yeah. I definitely get what you mean. It can be extremely frustrating when it feels like you're just mailing your work to the void. I think I said on here before, but the DA fandom - and I'm guessing the ME fandom is similar, considering overlap - is rotten for leaving feedback (although I did get the best review of my writing career - pic related - on a random shitty 3000 word fic about Red Templar OCs, which was both amazing and again weirdly frustrating because why can't I get that on stuff I poured effort into, damnit!). Writing in a really receptive fandom (a certain Star Wars pairing) and then going back to DA was like a kick in the dick.

Also having a quick read over the first chapter, I can't see any glaring issues with your writing. The dialogue reads as a tiny bit stiff, but on reflection, that's exactly what mShep sounds like. Keep going, for all those poor sods who are as disappointed with the lack of content as you are!
