Anyone have experience in writing the believable to and fro of a war while maintaining a narrative? I'm trying to do so for my shitty Ace Combat story but actually structuring the war with the story is proving tricky out of my not wanting to get details too flat out wrong

Well, to start it's a sort of civil war between Osea and one of its two Commonwealth states. I say one of because the other is where the protagonist and their squadron come from and geographically they happen to form a buffer between Osea and the belligerent Commonwealth. Thus the two Commonwealths end up fighting each other, one in defense of Osea and the other in opposition to its continued grip on the Commonwealth.

The story takes place a few years after the events of Ace Combat 5, so Osea is still barely recovering from its losses in the Circum-Pacific War and Belkan Conflict so it isn't yet in the best place to quash this rebellion.

Interpersonally, the story revolves around two Commonwealth Air National Guard squadrons belonging to the same Osean air group, and how they're forced to become enemies as the conflict creates a rift between their once tight bond. The Falcons of Dawn mentioned in Ace Combat Zero's Assault Records also have a role to play. I'd say more but I'd like to hear thoughts on the premise.

Yes.

RATO and JATO are rare but not unheard of. Off the top of my head, the Arado 234 and the Mirage IIIC both utilized these systems. They were most common in the early years of jet flight as the engines were frequently quite underpowered. They were also used to allow heavily laden transport aircraft to take off from shorter than normal runways. Also a number of point defence ZELL fighters were rocket launched.

I don't know if there are any current systems in use, but I don't believe so.

Assuming you're not using space shuttle sized boosters...

Well, even if you did it would probably be alright. An F-15 is about 1/4 the weight of the space shuttle, and the space shuttle was only 1/20th the weight of the entire booster assembly, so the difference in swapping an F-15 for the shuttle shouldn't be that great.

During launch the Space Shuttle would only experience 3gs, which an F-15 would be able to easily handle. However, as by the time the first two boosters are jettisoned, the whole assembly is moving at Mach 4, which would be very bad for said F-15.

An F-15 moving at Mach 4 would likely suffer damage due to heat build up and overspeeding the engines.

Nothing complete yet. Just a lot of background and a general idea of how the interpersonal story goes from just about every perspective. I'm slowly coming to the point in my aspiring career where I need others to cover my weaknesses when it comes to writing.

I should also say, this story kind of acts as the final chapter in the "Belkan Saga" with its inclusion of the Falcons of Dawn and its charting the transition of Grunder Industries to the beginnings of General Resource.

Good, because the entire squadron carries it. The idea regarding livery was for the squadrons to emulate their respective namesakes. The Shorebirds are the White Tailed Tropicbird (not a shorebird I know, but it looked too beautiful to pass up) and the Razorbills are pretty much Razorbills. Their schemes are also somewhat meant to play off each other to the point of almost being inversions
