I like the way H2 plays more than CE (mini nukes were a problem on small maps) but the conveyer belts I feel ruin what would have otherwise been the perfect 2 v 2 halo map.

I have an issue with this one thing in both Halo and Metroid lol, in Halo why does every UNSC, Covenant, and Forerunner facility have terminals where you can insert AI Data Chips? in Metroid why do the GF, Space Pirates, and Chozo all have small tunnel like openings made specifically for a ball to go through. The Forerunners had their tampering with things. Even the ancient humans had technology based off the Forerunners though there were more Precursor influence. Covenant technology just happens to be their spin on Forerunners too. The Librarian liked the humans so she definitely helped them in her own ways such as letting some of the tech be human usable.

The Chozo could do shit like Morph ball & speedbooster without their suits. This ain't unique, some of Zebus' inhabitants can do the same or similar. They'd naturally have holes for themselves. The Feds would have things like ventilation ducts they'd expect no one to fit inside & navigate well. IRL ducts aren't as easy to navigate as movie & video game ones. The pirates? Some of their tech is stolen from Chozo shit & as Zero Mission shown, they themselves can crawl through those holes. Besides, they're crazy fuckers.

I always thought if as Forerunner planning. The Librarian planned everything up to and including what would lead to the Spartan programme, smart AIs, etc. How Forerunner tech is usable by certain humans and so on.

The Covenant, having their tech largely based on Forerunner tech would just use the same things they would use out of habit.

So, by the Librarian's fuckery alone, people would eventually make tech that was Forerunner compatible and it just so happened that the covenant were lazy fucks and never tried to find their own form factor.

If they invented their own version of USB, the UNSC would have been fucked.

It revolutionized Halo with Firefight (shoulda had a matchmaking mode though, otherwise you needed friends). And the soundtrack was probably my favorite of all the Halos. It nailed the tone it was trying to set while also remaining true to the series' themes.

The story was just a mechanism to learn about the characters as you went, yet integrate yourself as the Rookie. Regardless of them cocking it up with books, I think it was honestly one of the top Halos.

I'm of a different opinion than most it seems. I don't really care how great Halo Wars 2 is perceived to be, I'm just glad it exists.
It was a niche RTS game that really hit the Halo esthetic out of the park and I never really expected a sequel. After all, Ensemble closed down and years went by without word. It seemed like the legendary ending would never be investigated.

But then they actually released a sequel, and 8 years later at that!
I don't know, that just makes me happy. It's probably my favorite decision made in the post-bungie era.

I'd call you a liar if you didn't think Firefight was an important development in Halo's multiplayers. I think they cocked it up more in 5, however it was an interesting take on the survival meme games started to have.

Rather than just monotone waves sent at you, they allowed you to pick a difficulty and then didn't let you pick the skulls. You had to change tactics on the fly, and were forced to experience skulls that you might never actually fight. If you want to you could go to certain rounds (with sets and bosses), or you can play infinitely. They were able to capitalize on a common idea without carbon copying what everyone else was doing with endless monotone waves.

The characters were fine and cliche like they needed to be. Dare and Buck had a romance, but this was a romantic story and if you couldn't tell you were stupid. Everyone survives at the end? Reconciled romance? Surviving impossible odds? The whole point of the story wasn't the engineer, it was a tale of camaraderie and brotherhood going the extra mile to bring everyone home.

Besides Dare and Buck broke up months later, as they probably would have in a real relationship. So many relationships strained after WWII because they were made in the heat of not knowing if you'd live to see another vagina. Hell, my grandpa is a Korean War vet and even I can see he just married the first white woman he saw when he came back from the war. At least tell me why you didn't like the characters, then we can have a point to discuss.

I know it doesn't have to be about them, but with Reach and ODST I don't see how they could do it.

Reach was about the impossible odds of saving Cortana using a squad that hates you because you replaced an essential family member.

ODST was a squad of humans overcoming impossible odds through wit, dedication, comradeship, and brotherhood.

So we have three problems. First, "Been there, done that". I don't honestly think they can make an effective squad when they have made all the caracters. Cocky sniper, quiet sniper, fearless leader, cocky leader, God fearing man, Spiritual Bear, cocky woman, cocky ONI woman, wise cracker, black wise cracker, and silent protagonist. It's all been done, it will just be a remix of whatever previous character archtypes they make. Unless they simply make some characters straight unlikable, which is a hard idea to work with.

Second problem? What are ODST's even like now? They can make Spartans cheaply and drop them much faster and safer than they can drop regular ODST's. The Spartans are also their own branch now, so why wouldn't they go in first? They're not a clandestine group only for stealth missions, they're like sending a literal battalion to help your troops with full shielding, superhuman strength, minus the indoctrination the Spartan II's had.

I honestly think the ODST's are obsolete. Which isn't a bad thin on it's face, but how do you emulate the human struggle it's predecessor had when now they can do backflips and punch Brutes in the fucking mouth? They were made because they were cheap and effective troops, but now they're not at war. They don't need to be cheap, they need to be efficient.

Finally, what story do you pair this with? The point of the ODST's in their story is that they weren't the center of the universe, however they were right on it's cusp. The Chief, Keyes, and the Covenant fucked off to another Halo ring, while these guys had to pick up the pieces. Hopefully they have something planet ending that you can work with to make a setting isolation, but they're setting up the Inifinity as the last bastion. Cortana is going to have a firm eye on them, so there will be no isolated squads because they can immediately alert all units where any fighting is. That's the point of the Guardian, to make insurrection, resistance, and fighting impossible. If they could do it from some cool underground resistance standpoint that'd be interesting, but with so many Guardians policing the galaxy I don't see how you make that work and still be lore friendly.

I still hope they make it, I would love it if they could do it. I just don't have hope that they will.

If it's p2w then I win an awe full lot for free. There is strategy to it, though a lot of people like to spawn units that aren't needed/at bad times. Blitz is fun

It's not completely devoid of strategy, no.

Warzone for instance has less cancerous pay2win, but the game mode is pretty random and devoid of real strategy.
Blitz has more strategy, but the possibility for pay2win is higher.

i'm yet to even play a game yet and you cant fullscreen the game - only fullscreen window it. You cant select a resolution, only 'zoom' and you cant keybind to a mouse in a fucking rts
