Combat looks it might be fun. I like what they did with the powers and weapons. Lots of variety and mods; also, small thing, I like that ammo powers are consumables.

Environments look nice.

Half the characters will probably be decent.

Exploring will probably be fun, I actually liked the ME1 Mako worlds and it looks like they're drastically improving from there.

Also choices were a really big deal in the Fallout games. Didn't stop them from canonizing endings.

In any case I very much doubt most people would have a problem with canonizing the golden endings. That infographic Bioware posted for ME3 showed that 90%+ of people who played previous games got endings like geth-quarian peace and the genophage cure anyway, and every survey I've seen that asks players which final ending they pick has Destroy take more votes than all the other options combined.

God the SR2 was such a good warhorse, seeing her lead the vanguard and pick out 3 ships in the final battle and btfo the collecters with the thanix ripped and reverse engineered from soverigns cannon shooting sublight molten metal made me rock solid.

In lore though it would make sense for our MEA ship to not be rigged with guns as you dont really need one as a scout ship and it gives good impressions for first contact.

I was writing about this few generals back. How grand it would be to have this "low-life, high-tech" setting where you must attack and steal from a weaker enemy ships and later plunder his colonies while collecting tech, materials and supplies to keep your small (but growing) space-pirate base running. As a soldier, it really depends on what you want. In general, Kaidan has more build variety, as he can be both the mightiest tank ever, or a tech/biotic god. However, Ashley has similar power versatility with Garrus, and can output the same amount of damage. That is to say, a fucking shitton.

ME1 was the best in the series for tone/writing/music - it's basically the New Hope of Scifi Vidya
It's almost timeless and apart from the clunky as fuck combat, it's a 9/10

ME2 built on it and while the story is effectively pointless the gameplay was streamlined and the loyality missions were fun
Not the mention seeing choices from the first game have pay off was done well for the most parat

ME3 had the slickest combat but the worst writing and an even worse tone, you could tell that the SP was sacrificed for Multiplayer

They have these, see the proton rounds upgrade in the first game. They're simply not worthwhile because you still need to get through their power armor, and bullets are just much better at that for the same energy budget.

This is a retarded idea, trying to ablate armor is one of the most inefficient ways possible to use energy.

They do have weapons like this by the way. The Incinerate power for example is stated to be a powerful plasma round. But it's useless because it still has mass but utterly negligible force and KE, so it detonates on the shielding. Then after it detonates on the shielding, the only way it can damage its target is conducting through the air a few inches away from their full-body power armor. Most 'incendiaries' generally rely on hot matter contacting the target to do damage, simply getting 'close enough' when most factions tend to wear self-contained environment suits (or the next best thing) does NOT work.
Normal second degree burns IIRc are around 20 j per sq cm for exposed skin. With a army uniform its nearly 3x that. Whereas with protective gear (which I would treat as the ME MINIMUM) its twice that again or nearly 6x 'bare skin'. For the sake of argument a 'flash burn' that encompased a chest area (call it 30x30 cm) would need at LEAST 117 kj minimum - assuming perfect energy transfer of the shot - to even begin to do harm.


By contrast 30-40 grams of TNT is what a 40mm grenade also has IIRC but does NOT rely on thermal effects. Which do you think is more 'lethal?' for the given amount of energy being used?

Again, Bioware actually explicitly introduced plasma and direct-energy weapons in the games, and then gave them weaknesses consistent with the lore. The Incinerate ability is potent, but doesn't deal all that much damage for how little you get to use it (unless you combo detonate) and is utterly useless against shielded targets. Proton rounds ignore shielding, but do 40% less damage than normal bullets assuming all other things are equal. They have very good reason not to use weapons like this. Bullets are just better, "burning" weapons in the vein of the 40k Meltagun are dumb.

I used to play a sentinel that used warp+throw (maximized AoE) for explosions along with chain overload and a mattock with that fancy scope to see through walls along with armor piercing rounds.

I think Il scratch biotics for andromeda, roll overload, incinerate and tech armor while focusing more on combat. As long as I can have decent burst with an ammo power and chain combos left and right while being juggernaut Il be ok.

One of the most brutal combos for weapon DPS was using a beam weapon with incendiary rounds. The base DPS sucks, but since rate of fire was so fucking great, that combined with the incendiary dot explosion effect was just brutal. With the right skills it was among the highest burst DPS in game. Unfortunately only the soldier could do this.
