When fighting nobushi, always expect the kick after a heavy, whether it whiffs/is blocked/connects, the safest bet is always to parry it of course. Also, when she does her zone attack, if she's not into feinting the second part of the attack then it's an easy parry. If she does tend to feint it then be prepared to feint your parry attempt.

Because it's NOT so easy unless you fight each character enough times to learn their patterns. In all my time playing I haven't met a single person that focuses on parries except myself and even after all the practice I still miss from time to time and it becomes even worse when I have to think of dozens of other possibilities or fight against more than one player.

And leaving all of that aside, I'm sure we'd have people start complaining on how unblockables are broken if they couldn't even be parried. Only difference is that blocking is way easier to do.

I've been on the edge about getting this game but I have one question, will there be a mode that completely removes the stance symbols? I think it's retarded that the game flashes in big red where you need to block and I think it's just holding peoples hands way too much.

Parrying is countered by feint into grab, as the parry attempt makes you start a heavy attack and the grab catches the start of a heavy attack. Grab leads to damage or a OHK.

The real problem is that unblockable "mixups" like Kensei's can be avoided entirely by just double tapping back dodge to roll out, and somebody who stands there blocking without trying to parry doesn't have anything to fear from feints. Once people get really good it seems that only a few characters have mixups legitimate enough that it won't be possible to defend against them 100%.

A wiser read would've been to just play greedy and let the overhead finish and then reset back to neutral to try and bait another guardbreak attempt out of him.

Props for actually canceling the overhead though. I played kensei during the open beta and it took me awhile to get the timing on that right, and I never once met another kensei who knew how to do it.

The game probably needs a lot more control in general. It might seem like you have a lot of mechanics to play with but every tool available to you is binary, you've minimal control over timing and spacing which are the 2 variables most high level fighting game play is based around. You would think that differences in range would make movement more important, but when defence works on reaction against everything from any range there is no "danger zone" range where a player getting into a particular distance becomes a threat.

A few close range really fast options might fix this. Imagine if back+GB did a GB attempt which was near instant, but did not perform the forward step animation that you normally get, making it only usable when you're touching noses. The guy did go left, so I don't know why he said that. He's probably confused. The animation cancel was into the left-side quick attack, as anyone can clearly see (except you apparently). My advice was that going left would not have improved his situation any, and he should've just gone for the overhead instead of the cancel. Furthermore, the side slash cancel does not have armor (of course you'll argue with this instead of just sourcing it if you disagree) and would've been interrupted by the guy mashing quick attack. The guy gets off his GB because of the cancel delaying the attack too long, which created a window for him. The fence had nothing to do with it, but that's a nice excuse for a bad read. I give it 7/10 for obscurity.

Abuse uninterruptiple heavy attacks.

Abuse forward dashes and be an aggressive fuck. This is good because there's a lot of things you can do off the forward dash. You can headsplitter leap, you can head butt, or you can just go for a normal guardbreak if they like to side-dash (it will follow them to their destination).

If you get someone really evasive that punishes you for being aggressive, your only choice is to turtle up and play the parry game.

One last tip, and an important one: USE. YOUR. ZONE ATTACK. Trust me.

I'm not aware of any cancel into a side light. You can feint the overhead and do a side light, but then you're just doing a regular side light. The side heavy cancels which don't use the feint buttons are both armoured though as you said. It's funny because if they weren't armoured you would have been interrupted by the hit, and would then have been able to break the Warden's GB.

They feint. They even feint into GB as a parry counter, but they don't change their habits based on what you're doing so they aren't human-like in any way. If you keep parrying into big damage they won't change the amount of feints they do. Sticking a lv3 bot in 99 round duels and just standing there defending against it is still good reaction practice though.

The game surprised me with its depth multiple times. It felt really good intuiting a new combo on a character or discovering a mechanic the tutorials did a shit job of explaining and then stepping my game up.
