It's pretty much babbies first fighting game, but I say it as more of a good thing then a bad thing.

You go into duels with the exact same mindset you go into fighting games with, you get the same adrenaline pumping matches and the same edge of your seat watching your opponent's every move. You get that same progression of sucking with a character at first but sticking around a while to master them, you see a very noticeable improvement to your performance.

But it has the benefit of having a much, much lower barrier to entry while still feeling satisfying enough to master. It's much more focused on reading an opponent versus complex input and combo executions.

It's like going into a fighting game as if you jumped in already knowing the controls and inputs and how to do them. It's much less frustrating for someone new, though I do honestly worry about high level play with how easy breaking out of guard breaks, and parrying moves are.

I think powerups need to not drop until there's been a death. Your team needs to kill someone for powerups to drop for you. Because as it is it's just assassins instantly leaving fights and grabbing a shield for instant two health bars.

Spot on, it's Fighting Game-Lite. The meat and potatoes of fighters is the mental game of "I know he wants to do X so I'll counter by doing Y". Between the speed and the difficult controls many people struggle to process that the other player is doing X, struggle to understand that they can counter by doing Y, and then struggle to even perform Y.

For Honour slows the whole thing down, makes it obvious that Y beats X, and then lets you perform Y by pressing a single button. It's a perfect fighting game introduction, but the limited options which come from simplifying things to this degree might cause a problem as people improve.

well, Vikings are kinda played out. Everything they had is already present in the game. At best you could do something like a Warlord with an axe instead of a sword, but thats it. Maces/Warhammers were not a thing during the Viking Age. They were reactions to full plate armor becoming more common in the late medieval period.

I don't know enough about japanese weaponry to make a statement.

Knights have options. 1handed swords of all types, also combined with daggers. Maces/Warhammers.
