You like FromSoftware games?
Their early work was a little too clunky for my taste, but when Demon's Souls came out in '09, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
The whole game has a well crafted, ingenious level design, and a new dynamic combat system that really gives the encounters a big boost. It's been compared to Dark Souls, but I think Demon's has a far more grim and refined atmosphere.
In '15 From released this; Bloodborne, their most accomplished game. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Ludwig the Accursed", a boss so engaging, most people don't listen to the dialogue. But they should! Because it's not just an extremely relevant and historic character in the lore, it's also a paradigm of the theme of duality between righteous saint and bloodthirsty beast in men! Hey Paul!

You should have a starter weapon like Cleaver or Cane that you can convert.

It's really heard in the early game to make split-damage weapons good, since early Nourishing gems are disproportionately hard to gather as they are useful.

If you really want to stick with the Toni, go grap some Lumpy 20%s. (>>167200301)

But even then you'd probably be better off putting them in a serrated weapon.

>Vilebloods are pompous, murderous blood-drunks, little more than Annalise's toy soldiers, willing to kill any hunter they see
>Executioners are insane zealots, ready to obliterate anyone or anything they find who has even the slightest chance of being corrupted
>HoH are holier-than-thou in every aspect, but completely susceptible to insanity as anyone else
>Confederates are the most scraggly band in Yharnam, bar none, and would likely happily turn the city to dust in pursuit of Vermin
>Beast's Embrace users are adopting a dangerous method, one which will turn them into the very beasts they seek
>Milkweed users are sentient cauliflowers, turning themselves into a host for a being who essentially caused the hunt to happen
But if you look for the bad, all you see is bad. Let's look at the good, and remember that we can always find it, no matter what.
>Vilebloods survived for countless years and are still thriving, despite a purging from the largest group of oversized wheel-brandishers since the pit crew at a monster truck rally
>Executioners found a way to utilize a wheel as an effective weapon against both man and beast
>HoH have kept all hunters safe from themselves and each other
>Confederates have done more than anyone to curb the Scourge
>Beast's Embrace users have found ways to grow stronger, while apparently keeping sane
>Milkweed users became so in-tune with the Great Ones they essentially now are Great Ones.
We're all outsiders, foreigners, and hunters, just one big family. We'll fight and bicker, but it's important that we move past it. We all have our ups and downs, but what matters is our ability.

>>
>>167205124
This is my own headcanon, but Rom was likely a scholar who was "blessed" by Kos, possibly as a result of an experiment or ritual. Since scholars researched Ebrietas in captivity, Ebrietas could have known Rom, or even favorited Rom above the others. The thing at the Altar of Despair seems to be a miniature Rom, possibly Rom's "shell," hinting at the themes of rebirth, backed by the usage of the Altar itself.

Rom was a either a mentally retarded woman or a baby that was used as a test subject by Byrgenwerth for putting eyes on the inside of someone. I don't think Kos actually did anything, they just stole the Orphans Cord and fed it to Rom.

Kosm is the orphans true name, Micolash isn't debating what her name is, he's debating about which being should prayed to.

So the appearance of a character who plays a decent-sized role in the story and lore as the mother of Mergo, and a weapon used by three separate hunters (Jozef, a Yahar'gul hunter, and one in the Hunter's Nightmare), two not in the dungeon are not canon?
If we throw out the dungeons, Queen Yharnam goes with them. A good amount of the game's story is built on her bearing Mergo. How exactly are they not canon?

I'd be willing to go along with this, partially because hunters down there respawn, and don't die like the others

>>167206885
The dungeons are her technical residence, an area built below Yharnam according to some chalice descriptions. If they're non-canon in the sense that they don't exist, we have to scrap Queen Yharnam, because she and the rest of the Pthumerians would therefore never exist. If they never existed, we never would have had Mergo, and would need to scrap a huge chunk of the game.
According to the Yharnam Stone, her consciousness stirs in unsettling motions, despite being dead, the dungeons her tomb. She can still appear during those unsettling motions.
We understand very little about the dungeons, but it's unreasonable to declare them unanimously non-canon. If we remove the dungeons, we also remove the Loran dungeon, leading to the removal of a good amount of the Nightmare Frontier. Amygdala drops the Loran chalice, should we declare Amy non-canon, too?

Just like how Laurence is dead in the waking world but alive in the nightmare. Chalice dungeons function exactly like the dream, and all the enemies you find inside make sense. They reused Rom because that's where she comes from, otherwise they would have used a different boss that's more appropriate gameplay wise.
>>
>>167206594
Not nesisarily.

Korean gems are anythibg that takes an obscene amount of effort to get,

- All offshape gems are Korean because it's basically multiplying the droprate for what you want by 0.01. The most common useage of "Korean" is for 31.5% BLT gems. Super powerful on Chikage/Bloodletter/Bowblade, but only drop as Circle. So you need offshapes (1% droprate) to fill other slots. If you want perfect curses and enough to fill all 3 weapons it's probably going to take 2000 kills.

- rare drops from the Watchers, EG 23.6% nourishing gems. Or perfect poison gems. Those are often rarer than Offshapes

- matching rare secondary effects, EG a 21% fire + 10.9% VS Beasts is the best Beasthunting gem in the game. But getting a madman to actually drop those effects takes forever. And they only come in Waning as well, so if you want another you need offshapes.

- super rare world drop effects, Radial Arcane + flat ARC Brainsucket gems can drop in Pthumeru. But it's extremly rare.

Most Korean thing I've ever seen was a guy on Reddit with a Kos Parasite using three Eribritas Abyysals with +15 flat Arcane secondary all with decent curses. Abyysals are 1/3, decent curses are 2/3 at best, 1/6 if you care a lot, Flat arc is one of the rarest secondaries and two of the gems were Radial, which is 1/3 possible shapes that can happen in the 1% of the time they don't drop triangle.
>>
>>167207227
Not him, but the dungeon changes form multiple times through Root Dungeons. There's more than one Amygdala, given all the lesser ones we find. Ebrietas appears to be a mature Celestial Child. The Celestial Emissary, same thing. Rom could be a result from the little Roms maturing. Fighting Queen Yharnam multiple times, her consciousness stirs despite her death. Everything else, there's multiples of them, easily.

When you die the world you died in fades into a dream and you go back to the waking world. This isn't even speculation and other NPCs like Crow and Djura acknowledge it.
Bloodborne is split into the world of the waking, the world of dreams, and the world of nightmares.
The Hunter's Nightmare is part of the far latter, the Hunter's Dream is the dream world, and Yharnam and the like are the world of the waking AKA the real world.
When Rom dies the world of the waking and the world nightmares begin to become one.
This is the reason Micolash is dead in the real world but alive in the nightmare, because it's his consciousness that is alive in the nightmare which is a thought projection. I don't understand how someone could play through the game without understanding this let alone get the idea in their head they were some kind of lore-master when this is literally the most basic understanding of the story.

Yes
>When Rom dies the world of the waking and the world nightmares begin to become one.
It unravels the true nature of the world, as expanded on by the note in the room immediately prior to Oedon Chapel.
>This is the reason Micolash is dead in the real world but alive in the nightmare, because it's his consciousness that is alive in the nightmare which is a thought projection
Micolash is long dead, he's a mummy when we find him. His consciousness is in the Nightmare the same way Gehrman's is in the Dream.

What if those pillars we see in the Dream are other Workshops with their own hunters in them? One feature of Dark Souls that I kind of wish was in Bloodborne is boss souls. What's his deal? How is he related to the giant flayed idol beast?

No, it's at the bottom.

In Nightnare areas you can always see down below you, but never above. In hamlet the Rooftops of Hunters Nightnare are visible and the masts from Hamlet can be seen from frontier. But not the other way around.

It's in their name. They are Shadows of Queen Yharnam. They're found wherever she is, above ground, at least. You never see them in the chalices.

They also make the exact same grunting sound as Pthumerian Descendant.

They also somewhat resemble Wet Nurse, she might be some kind of Pthumerian bullshit protecting the Queen's child.
>>
>>167210546
They are Queen Yharnam's bodyguards given to her by Oedon after they fucked and Mergo was conceived, along with the WetNurse to sustain Mergo. They all are formless and wear similar clothes.

The Forbidden Grave is Yharnam's, those Shadows were still guarding it. But they had also succumbed to snake parasites which is why they have snek powers and other shadows don't.

Okay, bbg, clarify something, a stupid question, for me. I know that church pick has serrated damage on thrust attacks and continues to have the bonus with arcane conversion. Would it still be the same moves with serrated?
>>
>>167211084
I personally think we're dealing a completely bizarre cosmology. This is a fantasy world, for all intents and purposes, and it's also a cosmic horror story, one of the main selling points being that our understanding and perception of the world and universe about us is exceedingly small and trivial. Hell, is the world's moon even a moon as we understand moons? I'm getting conceptual here, but that's only because the game goes weird itself. The blood moon is localized entirely in Yharnam, it appears perfectly normal everywhere else. Maybe it's the one constant between these different places. There's no reason an alien god can't exist in more than one place in some form. Different aspects of the same being. Like how there's the entity, Nyarlathotep, but see it in a dozen different forms, but it's all just Nyarlathotep. We're just seeing the moon, whatever the hell it is, from different 'angles'. One side looks like a crushed eye, another looks like regular moon, another looks like a blood red sphere.

That doesn't even get into the mess of Nightmare layers, with the Hamlet's ocean being the Hunter's Nightmare's sky and how you can't see places up, but you can see places down - except for Mensis which seems to just in the distance on a hill on the Frontier, but how do you GET there? It's all alien bullshit.
>>
>>167212165
Yes. The moveset doesn't change. You lose out on thrust, but serrated isn't a component of physical damage.
>>
>>167211996
I don't know who Olek is
>>
>>167212179
Yes, but shouldn't the moon be at the top? The sky changes in the Dream following or progression and Moon Moon descends directly above us after we defeat Gherman.
>>
>>167212165
Serration isn't exclusive to Thrust attacks, the whole weapon is serrated. You'll lose Phys/Thrust damage but everything else is the same when converted.
>>

>>167212497
Summonable Old Hunter, Tomb Prospector Olek, possibly the worst summon in the game. He threw a Molotov at a boss who dealt fire damage. He's a half-decent meat shield, but isn't worth it, not like Antal or Valtr.

>>167212179
I'd say the moon is almost definitely not a moon as we'd understand it. Considering it seems to show up IN FRONT OF the clouds in a lot of places. Maybe that's just a poorly put together skybox, in which case disregard me.

I agree, a little bit of info on the bosses would be much appreciated.

My own speculation on the BSB: she was obviously some sort of church official due to the location and possession of a holy chalice. She may have been a blood-saint, giving away her blood as a human for others to drink. This would explain the theme of open wounds and constant blood loss as a beast, and thus the name blood-starved or blood-drained. The hanging beast may have been another blood-saint turned beast that was slain during the purging of Old Yharnam.
>>
>>167212519
It's always at the top of every layer. I think we're seeing different slices of the same thing in different places. I don't think it's just some kind of stationary celestial object. It is always above us, except in Mensis, where once get into the loft, it's absolutely huge and on level with us, instead of above, because Mensis is the topmost place in the Nightmare.
>>
>>167212930

What's a good level/story progression to hit up the DLC?
>>
>>167218945
lv.65 right before Nightmare of Mensis
>>
>>167218945
I did it after I killed Rom, so around the mid 60's/early 70's.
>>
>>167218945
65+, whenever you're ready. You can suicide run to grab a few things like Chunks in the DLC right after Amelia. Ideally you'll want at least 30 Vit, one damage stat at a softcap (25) and a +6 or higher weapon.
>>
>>167218945
After you beat Micalosh but before you beat WetNurse (doing it after WetNurse means you miss two lines of dialogue).

Level doesn't matter too much, but you want Mensis tier gems and ideally a +10 weapon, +6 is the bare minimum. If you want to rush DLC early to have cool weapons for the majority of your playthrough, then you want Lumpy gems from Lower Pthumeru.

To elaborate a bit more on the topic of arcane: Heavy hitting, pure physical damage weapons scale really well with arcane when given an element because it converts ALL that pure damage into elemental damage of that type. This means that not only will you do a ton of damage by default, it will also scale off of your arcane too.

I prefer using the Church Pick for my elemental weapons because it is both serrated and holy (which means it does extra damage to both kin and beast). For strength builds I'd use ludwig's blade or hammer for dat raw damage.

Hope this helps, gl :D
>>
Are there any weapons that would benefit from heavy/sharp gems over just sticking three tempering/adept gems in it?
>>
>>167224889
ACTUALLY, if you have two perfect Heavy Abyysals (+15 flat secondary) it's better than two 27.2%'s on every attack but the untricked Charge R2 even with 25 SKL. Assuming you are using the rune.

However, depending on where Beasthood falls in the damage formula it might end up worse the moment you gain even a drop of beast meter. But it needs to be tested.

>>167225373
Sharp gems are always useless. For mathematical reasons they cannot beat a Tempering. At 99 SKL they are as effective as a tempering with the same value (EG 20 SKL scaling VS 20% physical ATK) but since Temperings go higher than Sharps, it's worth discarding every one you pick up.

Heavies are the same, except the ones dropped by Cursed Depth 5 Headless Bloodletting Beast. They go up to 65 STR scaling, and if you have 50 STR there isn't a weapon in the game not worth putting 1-2 Heavy Abyysals in.

Does the watcher who drops 31.5% BT gem have to be a coffin guardian or can it be a lever guardian? I know it has to be scattergun.
>>
>>167229389
This is an interesting thing actually.

Some shotgun watchers don't drop BLT gems, others ALWAYS drop BLT gems. In fact the BLT ones seem also drop cursed gems regardless of whether the dungeon is cursed (I got lots of cursed BLT circles in a Depth 2 root).

Maybe chest VS lever makes a difference, or maybe it's multiple Enemy types who are functionally indentical except for loot pool. Or maybe it's just random chalice fuckery we can't see (if you do a Foetid offering there is a whole bunch of effects it can do, each with a % chance. It's why some dungeons have Witchs everywhere and others have none).

For instance Lumpy only drops Cursed Gems, but I've gotten uncursed gems from Heated Club Watchers in different dungeons.

Can someone explain me, in low insight terms, what exactly do I need and how can I access these dungeons now that I've killed Queen? Do I need to complete Isz? I can't figure it out from graphs if it's optional or obligatory.
>>
>>167231143
There's a guide in the OP you can follow. Once you've made a single FRC Depth 5 root dungeon of any area (Ihyll, Loran, Isz) you can access any online glyph as long as you have the root they're located in. If you wanna access Isz glyphs, you're gonna have to complete Great Isz to get Isz root. You don't have to complete your FRC dungeon, just create one.

Sinister glyphs won't be accessible until you've made one though, they aren't used much either since they can't be cursed so you can ignore them unless they have something you want.
>>
>>167231143
>obtain all the root chalice items
>make (you don't have to complete it) 1 depth 5 ISZ chalice with all 3 modifiers (fetid, rotted, cursed)

>>167229939
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand datamining ruins secrets and stuff. But it's also impossible for us to ever know exactly how rare an offshape gem is, or the droprates of different effects in different dungeons. Is Mob Watchers loot pool the same as Boss Watchers? It's the same effects (except maybe some ultra rare ones) but some people claim Mobs drop Adepts more commonly. We'll never actually know because we're at the mercy of RNG and the drop rates are finicky as it is, it seems it can get stuck, I once got 4 adepts in a row, which is astronomically rare if it was truly random.

Knowing this stuff would be handy, and have no real effect on the game. Since we're never going to figure it out manually.

Considering a new save where I solo everything ever, absolutely no help at all. I'm not saying I co-op for everything, I just happen to co-op for a few things I feel like skipping the tedium of trying to solo.

So, deciding between a pure skill or an arcane build, which one should I go? Skill, I'm definitely using the church pick and abusing the visceral attack damage, whereas arcane feels like it has so many options through weapon selection and hunter tools but never really felt like it had the most damage.

>>
>>167233047

You don't HAVE TO.
The root dungeons are the endgame content, not the gems. The gems are just a bonus prize. When you get the perfect it's the end of the line. You won't have anything to use those on. If you going to just hack in those gems, you might as well just stop playing at this point.

And if you're one of the pvp kids, then let me tell you, if you get fucked when using suboptimal gems, you'll still get fucked when you have the perfect ones.

Depends how you feel about gems. Skl has the easiest gem grind, Arc is one of the more harsher grinds. Arc is funner imo since you have Tools and most enemies have lower fire/bolt/arcane defense than Phys so you'll usually dish out amazing damage with your weapons without having the risk of taking more damage from pellets on Phys builds.

You can't pvp with shit gems. The damage difference is bullshit. On an equal skill level you're fucked against a perfect saif shitter if you can't trade at all.
>>
>>167233042
If you do ARC, be warned: going into Chalice's early is practically mandatory. On a Phys build going into them early just makes you overpowered as fuck.

SKL is fun, I just 4-shot Gehrman with Viscerals at level 50 and I can kill Depth 5 Watchers in two parries each. Blades of Mercy, Threaded Cane, Saif, Burial Blade, Church Pick and Rakuyo are all really fun weapons to play with.

Arc has more variety, but it's much more tedious to build. STR/ARC 25/50 is much more fun imo, since you get Tonitrus, Wheel, HMS and Boom Hammer in addition to converted weapons.
>>
>>167233718

The metamemes are metamemes because they are the best. If Great Lake was good enough to put someone with shit gems on equal footing with someone using Korean gems, why arnt the Korean min maxxers using Great Lake?

Even if that doesn't put you exactly on the equal footing with someone, and you're just 1% behind them, doesn't mean you're fucked by any means. Unless you're a shitter to begin with, but as I said, in this case korean gems won't help you.

END yourself is a long time bbg meme.

Basically 99 END, base stats for wheel and nothing else. she can dash r1 for days, and flat arc gems are powerful regardless of build.

Poison has been used by a few people, mostly it's terrible. But recently Grumpy Pete has farmed good enough gems to poison people in one hit, I've been the victim of it and every week there's a few people expressing surprise at being killed by something most people consider useless.

if you convert the beast claws, do you still build the beasthood meter with every hit? And it reduces your physical defense while not increasing your damage output?
>>
>>167235521
Yes and yes. But beasthood only affects physical damage.
>>
>>167235521
Yes. Beast Claws have low base damage and meh scaling. They are probably the worst weapon to convert to ARC. People will tell you it doesn't matter because Beasthood is hard to build up outside of Cainhurst, but even a tiny bit of Beasthood is 20% extra physical damage, that's like a free gem slot just for hitting someone.
>>
>>167232851
I think regular red-buffed enemies drop the same gems as bone ash hunters (except the gems are always radials with BAHs). So if you find a dungeon with a bunch of red-buffed kin right in front of the lamp, you should farm that shit. Or a bunch of naturally buffed watchers in Ithyll.

There's no need to subject yourself to the pain of farming a bone ash hunter
>>
>>167235697
Ayy Lmaos have the "shittyness" Modifer on their gems. Even depth 5 cursed they only go up to 21% Physival with no secondary effect.

Plus, poison gems are rare enough, I don't also want to rely on offshapes. If you can find a BAH who's facing away from you, you can backstab them for easy damage. Plus, like all NPC's they walk straight into Axe Spin2win and the rally means you can trade hits.
>>
Is there a limit to the number of gems you can carry?
I've been running Eye and collecting all the shit that drops from the enemies. And I thought, what if I run out of bag space when a boss drops a perfect gem?
>>
>>167236009
they all drop the same gems, it's just bone ash hunters drop up to rating 18 gems and so do buffed red enemies

>Even depth 5 cursed they only go up to 21% Physival with no secondary effect.
they always have a secondary effect, and they go up to 23.1%. The only difference standard kin enemies have is they only drop triangles. If you want radials you'd have to farm some ithyll mobs
>>
>>167236062
Sell or discard the ones you don't need
>>
>>167236131
Go look in your inventory now, there's bound to be shitloads of terrible gems with no secondary effect. The Beast Patients in Loran are the same, except waning. They have the same reduction in primary effect madmen have, but instead of a doubled secondary they have nothing. The shittiness Modifer is real.

Plus, why would I farm offshapes from regular mobs? If I was that dedicated I'd farm Isz Watchers for s chance at offshape Rating 19 poison gems with no secondary and boosted primary, 23 Rapid Poison is possible.
>>
>>167236131
> If you want radials you'd have to farm some ithyll mobs

Oh yeah, I'll just go farm some Rapid Poison gems in Ihyll from random mobs. It will never drop. Slow poison drops in Ihyll about the same rarity Nourishing drops in Isz (although Purple Aura doggo exists) Rapid Poison I don't think is possible in Ihyll. Scorpions will drop it, but they cap out at 16 rapid poison.

Tinge is better. Arc only really stacks up when you make a HMLS build, imo. Arc has some decent options but they are way too bullet hungry.

Bloodborne is way too basic and arcadey with extremely limites build variation per playthrough. They stripped basic things like equipment weight because it would be too complicated, and while transforming weapons sounds cool it just means you have to choose both weapons at once. That's the point, you have to choose if your damage will come from weapons or tools. Trying to use both will deplete your bullets, limit your weapon variety and will lock you on using moon beams on your MLHS since the R1s will be shit. Going 70 ARC for tools is not so different from going 30 SKL for viscerals, sure you will get something out of it but will not be ideal, 70 is when the ARC scaling starts to get good and it's not like the tool damage at 50 is bad.
But that's his build, at least he can enjoy throwing all sorts of space magic at eldritch stuff.

The Parasite is a weapon and the softcaps are 25 and 50, 70 is the softcap for some tools, they scale well all the way to 99 and the damage is absurd. EG, BSE and Augur can kill pretty much everything with one or two uses. If you really want something like that you have to go to 80. 99 is worth it because you don't even have to get near most enemies to erase them.

Yes, I use CE to get titanite slabs in DaS because I've already completed the game numerous times, and they didn't learn a damn thing from the grind in DeS. I don't, however, use CE in das2 to get slabs, because the drop rate is actually quite manageable. I play games to have fun, challenge and enjoy myself. Spending literal hours farming the same fucking shit over and over again, battling more against the RNG than the actual enemies, is not fun, enjoyable, or a challenge. It's just tedious busywork, like data entry. It's already bad enough that good gems are pretty much required for PVP or higher NG cycles, there is literally nothing wrong with saveshitting and using glyphs. Fight me, faggot.

You can kinda make it into a STR build by bringing STR to 50.

Be careful not to go to NG+ without getting the unique story materials like the living string. Red Jelly and others are also only purchasable after finding it once and it's easier in the story.

Well that sucks. The striking gem should say "phys charge ATK UP" then, because thats what it really is.

How many gems actually give the nourishing effect? I know ATK UP open foes does. Do poormans and fools gems do it if they are the type that says "ATK UP on low health" rather than "phys ATK UP on low health"?

>>167250750
I guess that would explain it. Shame. The difference in damage is hard to pinpoint, at least. Sometimes it seems like the three 27%, 25%, 26% beasthunter gems do exactly as much damage as the 21.5% and 19.5% nourishings.

The route from the first lamp to Gascoigne is great until late to the game, you'll get close to 20 in one run if you buy some with the echoes you gain

So...I'm confused about the sense of time here.

When you get kidnapped by a snatcher, Mensis is performing the ritual to beckon and the music is either their cultish chanting or just to set the theme. When you kill ROM, the veil is broken and you see the world for what it truly is.

Was Yahargul always like how it is during the Blood Moon? Or is it only like that after they complete the ritual? Say you didn't kill Rom but they completed it...what then?

I'm so confused.
>>
>>167258208
It also affects coop with randoms, you get downscaled with password and removes part of the roleplaying aspect of planning, compromising and not being simply good at everything.
>>
>>167232671
>But it's also impossible for us to ever know exactly how rare an offshape gem is
It really isn't. You just need 3 or 4 dedicated players (read autists) to take notes during their week long farming sessions.
Also knowing whether it's 1.583% or 1.671% exactly won't get you any advantage when you grind the shotgun watcher for 31,5% BLT off shapes so it's kind of a useless info anyway.

The ritual room was locked before (the large door where there were the chime maidens summoning the one reborn). After the red moon the manufactured monsters escape, kill the normal monsters like pigs and snatchers and then they roam through the area instead.
>>
>>167258343
The ritual is going on the entire time we just can't see it. Sometime between our visit there and killing Rom things go wrong, the gate opens and the snatchers are killed by the corpse things and the three hunters hide inside the chapel with nowhere to run.
>>
>>167258343
The ritual was going on the whole time, you just couldn't see it. Killing Rom fudged it and made it all visible, but by then it's too late.

If you never killed Rom and they completed it, who knows. Maybe it just looks like the entire city fell to the scourge and no one's the wiser.
>>
>>167259485
Tḧe ritual probably wouldn't work. They probably intended to beckon a great one to the waking world, but one reborn was a complete failure, the brain was rotting and could only exist within a nightmare and great ones childs don't seem to have a good historical rate of survival even without MP interference.

So lower than pure skill, and Reiter is the only one with str scaling, but heavies do nothing towards the bullets so you lose over 60% of the gun damage, and the visceral damage for a parry oriented weapon.

Actually it's kind of reasonable you also didn't add the arcane damage for the BoM, though it'd still have a 100 AR difference but more reasonable.

It's really silly though, having heavy and cold abyssal but not sharp. Cold abyssal are kind of a necessity though, conversion would be terrible without it while strength has many usable weapons either way.

It is. Despite the meme, this is a build because I'm compromising with very low stamina and no ranged options, as well as no access to utility arcane tools. It's a build because I made trade offs to increase damage the most. Now stop being a meme.
>>
>>167264760
You're missing the point, it's not about getting better damage. 50/25 can reliably use these weapons even if they're not meant fo it. Str shines in weapon variety, even more than Arc.

The ARC damage for the BoM is there. At base 6 ARC (Military Veteran), it's just an added 61 in damage to the AR. I only put flat damage in parentheses though, in order to avoid confusion over it being affected by attack modifiers.
>BoM, 50/25/6, 1 HA
PHYSICAL: 120 * [(120 * .65 * .85) + (120 * 1 * .5)] * 1.272 * 1.272 + 15 = 402 (+15)
ARCANE: 60 * (60 * .69 * .03) = 61
= 463 (+15)
>BoM, 50/25/6, 2 HA
PHYSICAL: 120 * [(120 * 1.3 * .85) + (120 * 1 * .5)] * 1.272 + 30 = 400 (+30)
ARCANE: 60 * (60 * .69 * .03) = 61
= 461 (+30)

With flat damage included: 478 and 491
>>
>>167265357
You can use those weapons but with ~100 less AR you're kinda gimping yourself by using them instead of your other options. And if you're going to main them you're better using a better build (which also require less investment since those only require 50 skill and no strength). It's like that jack of all trades build that can use everything but nothing very well.

It's different from quality weapons with skill focus like saif, pick and burial blade that you get to the same range.

>>
>>167265757
Fair, actually that 620 might be with optimal brainsucker gems. a simple math gives me 534 with 27.2, which is still a significative difference for lower investment and not needing as much top gems for people who doesn't care about optimal. And visceral damage as bonus.
>>167266126
I use BoM occasionally on my arcane build with brainsucker gems, so I can switch from kos to BoM to HMLS to fire pizza cutter. It's surprisingly usable in FRC dungeons since so most normal enemies seems weak against arcane and BoM has very low multipliers on the stunlock combo so the flat arcane actually improves it.

>>
>>167267071

Skill weapons take more skill and intelligence and are thus more fun. STR is boring and the hit stun makes an already not very hard game a cake walk. MASH HIT STUN MASH HIT STUN repeat ad infinitum...compared to BoM for example R1, R2, L2 combo, evade incoming attack, reposition yourself, follow up with new combo etc. STR was made for noobs so they could play these games, much like the shield was in the Souls series. No respect.

Is arcane the best build lategame because you can use everything plus tools, except bt weapons but they suck anyway
>>
I'm so bad, sorry man. I'll ring again right now.

Nah, you're doing fine, m8. That beasthood is rough.
>>

less damage that heavy abyssal str builds
no damage viscerals
shitty magic
can't cheese with guns
>>
I just had some Beckoner run around the same area we cleared for about 10 minutes in Loran and then randomly jumped off the bridge. During this time someone else was summoned and Blanked out and I think the same person was summoned again just before they jumped off the bridge and had just Banked again. wtf
>>
Well, that was much more interesting than the usual run through ailing loran. Thanks m8s
>>
>>167273857

>>
>>167273147
>Less damage than strength builds
My 6K charged R2s beg to differ. Serrated fire weapons against beasts or bolt weapons against kin often do more damage than their physical counterparts, and both of which do just fine against players as well.

>No damage viscerals
Split damage weapons actually get decent visceral damage. Nourishing setups in the Wheel or the Moonlight Sword get about 1500 against bosses, which while I'm not sure how much that would be against a player, I know it isn't complete ass like pure fire or bolt weapons.

>Shitty magic
Blacksky Eye is good, Executioner's Gloves are alright, Accursed Brew is fine. Augur actually does decent damage and can parry while you're two-handing, which isn't exactly relevant but it's a nice bonus.

>Can't cheese with guns
Can cheese with tools or moonbeams though.

I'm not saying arc builds are the best, but they definitely aren't bad.
>>

Cheers, anon. If you're hosting again right now, I'll join in about 10-15 mins. Gotta do something.
>>
I have never used BT weapons or made a BT build. Am I missing out, bbg?
>>
>>167274141
Guns don't affect visceral though, just level, skill and gems (thrust?) . And apparently tricked threaded cane skill scaling bonus.
>>
>>167268760
Not immediately, but probably at some point.
>>
>>167274141
>Nourishing setups in the Wheel or the Moonlight Sword get about 1500 against bosses
You get around 3000 with a Heavy and two 27s
>>
>>167274767
Every gem that affects thrust damage also affects viscerals.
>>
>>167275058
Like I said, decent, not good. Of course physical setups will always get better viscerals, but nourishing setups don't get bad viscerals.

Hey guis, I wanna do a church pick build. Since church pick destroys literally everything in the game due to thrust, holy, and serrated, I need a secondary weapon to cover the weaknesses in general gameplay. Should I invest into arcane or BT for ranged damage and let my church pick handle close range combat?
>>
>>167280036
Yeah, sorry for not saying anything. I'm going to be doing it again if you want to come.
>>
>>167280269
Invest first in 25 str, 50 skl, and 45-50 vitality and then dump in arcane up to 18 for tools or end depending on your playstyle and how many points are left. Unless you're not bounded by any meta level, then level everything you like.

If it wasn't in co-op, I could have killed him in three hits. Fire Stake R2s plus oil urns on his unbroken head do 6K, and when it's broken they do 9K. It's ridiculous.

Where to next then, boss? Ailing Loran? Ihyll?

Not dodging takes more skill and intelligence and is thus more fun. Dodging is boring and the I-frames makes an already not very hard game a cake walk. MASH CIRCLE DODGE MASH CIRCLE DODGE repeat ad infinitum...compared to simply walking for example Left stick right, left stick backwards, Left stick combo, step backwards, reposition yourself, follow up with new stick movement etc. DODGING was made for noobs so they could play these games, much like the shield was in the Souls series. No respect.
