Reiter seems meh to me and loch shield seems like something for pvp and not pve. Where do I use loch shield in PVE anyway? Logarius?

The problem with church pick for me is it's so versatile. With BT, I could work on the lack of ranged options a skill build commonly has and reiter doesn't seem like the answer for ranged damage, just a parry weapon on main hand.

Rifle spear seems like a gimmicky weapon as well. Rakuyo, that's definitely fair and I'll put in 10 str because of that.

Stats, gems, weapon level? Bolt paper adds 80 bolt damage to every attack, which they're weak to. Beast Blood Pellets add at least 20% more damage as long as the meter is on the screen, and more if you keep attacking. They're also weak to thrust, the transformed Church Pick's full moveset is thrust damage, and more of the regular version's moves are as well, but not the normal charged R2. The regular R2 is thrust.

Eh, I wouldn't necessarily do that. I actually had very little experience with Souls before I played Bloodborne and it's risen to become one of, if not straight up my favourite game. It's an absolutely fantastic game by itself, to be honest.

I suppose you could construe it like that. Personally after playing BB, going back to the Souls games is hard. I think it's mostly shields and the focus on defensive play rather than offensive play. I guess asking yourself how much you enjoy the souls series isn't quite the best question to ask when you're deciding on playing BB. It's more like the framework of Dark Souls, but polished to a mirror shine for maximum satisfaction in gameplay, music, and atmosphere.

I'd still be playing Destiny if they had random matchmaking, I fucking hated having to go to the Destiny general and add people to my friends list to play. Bloodborne co-op has me spoiled, I don't want to talk to people, I want to have silent understandings and bonds and spam goofy emotes. The feeling of swooping in and helping some random person with a hard boss feels great, can't do that in Destiny. Shortly before I got rid it, I unlocked some Warlock subclass that gives you lightning powers, the ultra ability was just fuckin flying through the map firing electricity from your hands like a sith lord gone mad, but that's kind of it. I don't have as much of an issue with the grinding in Destiny as much as I do other aspects of it, like the story just seeming flat, the game oddly short, or the far easier missions for a good amount of it. I actually enjoyed Evolve, as absurd as that may sound, because without a well-coordinated team, everything could go to shit in a minute or so (trying solo was absolute hell, especially in Defend mode), and the story felt right for the action-movie feel to it. Destiny took itself a little too seriously. Shit, I even still play Payday 2, mostly because I love the movie Heat, and the music score is incredible.

Not the other anon, but apparently Destiny had a rather troubled development. When that guy from /dg/ walked me through Crota, he told me about the game's background. It was originally supposed to be a fantasy RPG, got rejiggered into a shootbang sci-fi fantasy, but at some point the writer left for some reason, and took the story material with him, there was copyright problems and they basically had an unfinished world and story to work with, built a game around what they could use. The main story is terrible, but the expansions are more solid. Destiny could have been a really neat little setting, to be honest, shame what happened.

Heavy Abyysals require farming BLB, Cold's need Elder, Arcane gems need to go through all kinds of bullshit. BLT gems have comically low droprate, as do specialised gems like Beast/Kin hunter or poison. It can take weeks to get an optimal setup that isn't basic Temperings.

There are no "states", you just gotta have a Bell Maiden spawn in your world. That means you'll have to ring your Beckoning or Sinister Bell (summon/invading bells). You can blank them out after a Maiden spawns so you don't call for help or invade. Beckoning Bell summon others, Small Resonant Bell gets you summoned if someone is ringing their Becky Bell nearby. There are passwords if you want to be summoned/summon someone specifically, they remove level restriction.

They're optional content that hold a lot of useful stuff in the game (best gems, runes, weapons, new enemies, 2 armor sets, etc). Non-root dungeons are the same for everyone, root dungeons can be randomized unless you used a glyph (code) you found online that someone created and shared. Oh, yeah, I never bother parrying unless I just want to fuck around and try to look flashy. Love stunning him out of his 2nd phase powerup and stunlocking for the host with the Gatling Gun afterward, it's just fun.

I'm starting to really like the Laurence fight, though at first I thought he was a shitty boss. When you just go all in on him with heavy attack after heavy attack and you keep stunning and staggering him, and it all somehow matches up with the music.

Then to see the gestures of joy after you help someone beat him. Fighting Orphan I can help like 4 people before I have to go back and restock for blood vials because of the axe's rally. With Laurence I'll be lucky if I can kill him twice before I need to restock; every fight is such a struggle. And the music gets so great at the very end

I just used shitty main game gems on a beast cleaver that I upgraded as best as I can before any fight( ie +3 for Papa G,+6 for Amelia, +8 for Rom). I used fire paper and beast blood pellets for bosses. I only did the first 2 and a half chalice dungeons since it was a main game run.

Stay aggressive and don't get hit. Everything one shots you. Levels are harder than bosses.

I'm speculating and conjecturing based on what I've seen in the game and what I've heard about Lovecraft's works from other people, most of them being you guys.
You would need a basic understanding of Lovecraft's influence on the game. Every player including yourself are in their own dream-reality (world) throughout the game, either traversing your own or others', including the dreams of in-game characters (The blood minister tells you "Whatever happens... You may think it all a mere bad dream..."). The mechanic to bridge and cross worlds also makes sense because the dreams, though they are separate from the physical world in many ways, are able to exist because of inhuman power/knowledge. The inhuman knowledge, or Great Ones' knowledge is represented by the insight counter. Insight is needed to cross because of their direct affiliation with the Great Ones' power.
The real interesting part is what the bells have to do with this. I don't know about bells in Lovecraft's works but I understand that, inherently, the language the Great Ones use can't be understood yet can be picked up by humans or other lesser beings. The bells are a medium to connect your world and another's (think bridge posts on either side of a ravine) via resonating in utilizing the insight you possess depending partly on the bells and partly the player's and npcs' intent. Intent meaning whatever oath rune you've memorized or whether or not you're blood-addled (basically sin from Dark Souls if you want a comparison).
Who made the bells? I don't know but their abilities and use of insight makes them connected with the Great Ones. I'm going to stop here. I was going to say more but needed to do something and forgot as a result. I hope this was an interesting read, if not spergy. Read the bells' item descriptions.

Which strength weapon (or strength leaning quality) is good against ayyys, having many thrust attacks. I tried using the tricked stake drivers R1s against an ayyy but it did almost no damage.

Cane is the only weapon that has that, sword on Kirk is the same as hammer. Stake "Thrusts" don't do Thrust damage, only normal Phys (and Blunt for the tricked charge r2). The only Thrust attacks it has are jumping attacks. A 50/25 Str/Skl Church Pick with a Heavy is good for Ayys, most Strength weapons just do Phys and/or Blunt damage.

Yes, both are great weapons, in particular against beasts. And probably match well as well, a fast serrated weapon and a long range serrated weapon for mobs and hitting weak spots of large bosses.

It's not as inspired as Bloodborne and lacks polish but it will be fun.

I've just started playing.
Is it normal to be near enough at 20 blood vials? I've only played for around an hour.
But it seems like the game is a lot easier in terms of "here, have lots of health to recover with" but harder in that the mechanics don't work too well for me with groups of enemies.

Also, is shooting most enemies to riposte them a viable tactic if I keep using blood for bullets or is tht only in an emergency?

There are many weapons with good mob control, including the threaded cane. Though nothing will work well with a horde of red spiders and mad ones if they surround you (except maybe a well timed beast roar).

You'll have tons of bullets, will find them as drops even without going back to hunter's dream and you can use blood bullets as long as you have life and vials. And there is even runes that return 1-3 bullets every visceral.

combat is amazingly fun and has a skill cap far beyond anything souls offers

level design is pretty uninspired though imo

Nah. Doesn't have the polish of Bloodborne, combat or art style-wise, you'll probably only ever use one stance for each weapon type once it's tested to hell and back, and the amount of management plus MMO loot system is offputting for a Souls knock off. I had enough fun juggling pointless stats in DaS2.

Dealing with groups is the first thing the game forces you to deal with. Either start tossing pebbles and luring them to you one at a time, or aggro several and retreat to get them with your tricked weapon.

Cain just swings wide as a whip, its easy.
Sawcleaver trick, then tap R2 I believe. R1 is a constant verticle attack, tap R2 gives you a wide swing.
Axe is the best, transform and either press L2 for big wide swings, or hold down R2 for spin2win.

Koei Tecmo. Look at their library. Almost everything had an expansion with twice the content within a year or so. I'm not falling for their vanilla releases ever again. It will be funny as fuck considering how Nioh was in developement for a decade... yet they already releasing DLC.
