I have some questions about Darkest Hour.
1. When units have a higher "vulnerability" score, is that a good thing or a bad thing? ie. does having high vulnerability make them more or less vulnerable? It may sound obvious, but it's not really explained and I've never seen a game give a vulnerability score (as opposed to something obvious like a defense score).
2. I have absolutely no idea how diplomacy and espionage work in DH. It's entirely different from HoI III and HoI IV. So, can anyone give me a quick rundown of how diplomacy/espionage work in DH and how to use it to my advantage?

Another way to make horde unity easier to handle is to have 0 overextension provinces that you can hold off on coring and then raze when you need the horde unity.

I think yearly horde unity caps out at -5 yearly.

You cannot deny, EU4 is he best gsg ever created. You cannot argue that it is just relying on your allies anymore after the new update and all new institutions spawn in Europe rather than Asia or Africa which makes sense. It has the most in depth economic system and some of the most satisfying war mechanics. There's nothing like being dug into the mountains alongside a great general with a severely outnumbered force and still coming out on top or being forced to plan the perfect campaign as your allies do not owe you any favours, but still triumphing regardless. And don't even get me started on the multiplayer gameplay. The complex trade, alliances, coalitions, etc. It's just great. A great well rounded gsg.

If everyone hates his ass then you might be able to win another invasion because the nunber of levy (not direct levy but vassal levy) troops he has is dependant on how happy the lords are with him. Strongly negative opinions often means he gets nothing.
You can't incite rebellion directly but if people hate him enough they'll often rebel on their own.
Remember to check out the guy's actual levy pool.

I agree that there should be something in game mechanics holding everything south of morocco back on tech even harder than what they attempt currently. Castille and portugal often colonize the area super early and mali and friends often come out with decent tech.

This is what I was doing, spent 20 hours on a campaign going from a count to empire of Hispania with north Africa, Brittany and Ireland. The EUIV converter is fucked atm, be warned. Pic related. Random vassals are released everywhere, all tech groups are wrong, religions converted wrong, 3 development in all provinces, ideas are miss assigned, literally everything is fucked.

Personally I find Ethiopia and Nigeria to be the most problematic. Be sure to have a garrison in their capital, to prevent revolutions even if you forget about them.
Really the only thing you'll have to manage is manually investing in railroads for them, as they usually don't do it alone.
Note that if your african colonies are contiguous a fun meme to do is to release it all as a single vassal and get a lifetime supply of African troops.

What are your overall ideas for it? Mine were Westerlands as UK equivalent. Storm's End as Prussia and can form a Greater Stormlands if they unite the various duchies of the Crownlands and Stormlands. Reach is France, Dorne is Spain and the North is a mix of Scandinavia and Russia.

Lore-wise I'd keep the families for familiarity, Storm's End is still ruled by descendants from Stannis or Edric Storm and claim the Westeros title, Targaryens would rule some Austria-equivalent as a combination of Crownlands and Stormlands duchies. The Baratheon vs Targaryen rivarly would've become like Prussia vs Austria.

Westerlands is still under the Lannisters and have a giant colonial empire, maybe Tarlys briefly took over the Reach and waged war across Westeros.
