Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

By far the balls on reddit post. Jesus. where to begin?

So first he felt the need to post it because he needed to tell his fans that he wasn't being as productive as he was in the past. Then he goes into some giant wall post of TMI about his ball problems. He could have just said he was having some medical problems, but no, he has to go into way too much detail about his balls. Then of course further evidence that he's absurdly poor as well.

Just all around a total joke of a person. Like those guys who pretend to have all sorts of martial arts black belts, and to have fougth int all sorts of tournaments that don't exist.

He made a post on reddit saying he was taking a break from fake-coding because he was having some medical problem with his testicles. Testicular torsion or something?

Just no fucking barrier. Just puts all that out there.

Plebbit mods let it on because they thought he was an N64 dev instead of a charlatan.

You have to pay the piper no matter which emu you use. Use epsxe and you have to search the specific settings that will make the game look as best it can on epsxe. Use mednafen and you have to deal with arcane unexplained behaviors you have to do to get the game to run because its developer didn't make the emu for you or any other end user, she made it for herself and she already knows how to use it. Also you have to use the specific bios and dumps that she wants you to use or else it won't work.

fair enough. I suppose Google Store may be more sketchy.

I've just seen too many ridiculous accusations and assumptions. Some people think that CEMU stole code from Dolphin, which is ridiculous.

Then you have people like SP even claiming that emudevs just use stolen docs and don't do ANY reversing. I find that statement ironic considering he prefers to copy their code instead of looking at the docs himself. If he read the docs himself, perhaps some of the libretro cores would be in better shape.

launchbox (the free portion) is that gui you're seeing there, you use it for launching games and for management like adding and editing games/emulators etc. Then there's bigbox (premium only). You add games through launchbox, then they show up on bigbox, that's kind of how it goes, there should be loads of videos on yt
>>
>>164953527
It downloads most metadata like gameinfo, boxes, snaps etc. For the video snazps though you must either own a premium emumovies account or download it from emumovies and then add them manually to lb like I did

Hyperspin: The good: MASSIVE community with assets for everything. Customizable beyond reason.
The bad: 1024x768 max resolution. Toxic community. Closed source windows only. Customization features are tedious and complicated to setup.

Launch Box: The good: scrapes all kinds of artwork and metadata. Easy to customize. Tons of features.
The bad: Closed-source windows payware. Clunky.

RetroFE: The good: runs on toasters. Open-source. Lots of features. Fast and coded well.
The bad: kind of a pain to setup.

Emulationstation: The good: Open-source. scraper for boxart. Fast.
The bad: no longer in development. Not a lot of features.

Try kodi with advanced emulation launcher. Kodi's got a really slick and tuned ui and has all of the benefits of the above systems.
>>
>>164956859
Launchbox 4 lyfe. I disagree with a lot of what the dev has been doing and it hurts to see so much wasted potential. It's still the best imo since you can organize and scrape all the data you need easily through launchbox and even launch games if you're sitting in front of your desk. Then there's bigbox which is starting to look amazing and requires 0 setup since it's still launchbox.
>>
For example, take a look at this:
>>164950307
I've set retroarch using mame_libretro core as the default emulator for the Arcade platform, however, you'll see that there are some atomiswave and naomi games that won't run on mame, one of the things I really like about lb is the freedom it gives you to create little exceptions for random things and whatnot. So for games like metal slug 6 etc, I just edited the game's entry to use demul instead of retroarch, and everything remains neatly organized and acessible.
>>
>>164958201
Well actually, I did something different, I disabled the "Use Emulator feature" and then set it up like pic-related because demul has really shitty commandline options

hyperspin is not customizable beyond reason, i think youre pretty much limited to the wheel setup.

and kodis awful as a game frontend. for starters, it doesnt automatically add games (you have to context menu > refresh roms), and the skins with game compatibility are ugly as shit.

if you want complete customization, retrofe. if you just wanna play, launchbox (but its windows only and you cant even pirate it to try bigbox out) or emulationstation if you want it free and running from your tv.

I still use mediabrowser 2.6 for mediacenter in windows 10. Unfortunately there's no scraper that works for it anymore, so i have to convert metadata for it.

RetroFE is going to be the couch-fe of choice when it's more accessible.

Hyperspin out of the box doesn't have a lot of options, but there are LOTS of 3rd party tools to extend its abilities. If you're setting up a cabinet, it's what you're going to want to use.

http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=29892

Found it when I was searching for what I ask. May not be much help, since the sound handling happens outside, not in real time on emulation. But I find it impressive, and also am surprised none have tried to apply this or something similar to emulation.

Is their a way to set up a server that is completely hands off that can play higher end emulators and play them on a low powered machine like a Pi or Intel Atom box?

Unfortunately Nvidia game stream only works with Nvidia cards and requires punching in a code each time.

Moonlight piggy backs off Nvidias protocol and needs a code each time.

VNC solutions hare latency hell and a bitch to pass a controller through.

Any better solutions out there? Buying better boxes for everyone is just a waste when I got beefy server hardware sitting around. I'd rather buy a few extra video cards and do a pass through for them than build rigs that don't need the power for 99% of the time.

So I recently realized CEMU works now so got a few games known to be working.

question is, are you fucked if the game requires motion controls or is there some way to work around it currently?

Mariokart 8 works very, very well for me and Captian Toad Treasure Tracker has been equally as impressive until i got to level 8 (a minecart level ) where it wants you to aim with the gamepad controls as it says. I figure this is using the motion controls? (I dont have a Wii U) you can use analogue sticks but its incredibly slow & ridiculously hard to do (im using a wired 360 controller with cemu 1.6.4). The touchscreen portion of the game works fine using the mouse, the blowing on the mic thing works fine binding it to a button. But whatever it wants me to do on this level seems impossible with a non wii u controller. Anyone have any ideas?
>>
>>165039773

If you don't have a SixAxis or similar motion-controller, you're fucked. I think they intended you to use a paired Wii remote, but I know for a fact the SixAxis controller I'm using responds (relatively) fine.

It's not meant for playing, it's meant for looking cool and geeky on your shelf.

I wish we had a way to get the user statistics for those consoles. I'd wager most users will just try every game for 5 to 20 minutes each and then never touch the thing again.

Or maybe their buyer's remorse coupled with the nagging feeling of not being a "hardcore old school gamer" will motivate them to push through something like Castlevania or Mega Man, only to give up in frustration a few hours later.

That's what I did when I tried to get into NES emulation a few years ago at 25 so I'm projecting like mad. But at least I was not retarded enough to pay for ROMs.

Question:

I got ahold of MGS: Portable Ops from a Mega link and the game was split into three separate files all containing only two folders, PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.bin. Are the .bin files all unique or just copies of one another? Is there something I should be aware of before attempting to compile everything into an .iso?

Anyone who emulated SMS able to correct the goop?
I can hose it away but it's just a texture and the game thinks there is none at all.

I'm trying to collect every blue coin but there are some Nokis that must be bugged. They're supposed to be covered in goop and after you hose them down they give you a blue coin. But since my game thinks there's no goop it never triggers them to reward me.

Is there a fix for this?

First one I tried was DEmul and it ran terribly. The guy at the Crazy Taxi title screen sounded like he was about to have a stroke. Not to mention the choppy gameplay made the game unplayable. I can emulate Dreamcast without much of a problem on Reicast, so it's no big deal.

Next one I tested was Dolphin. I was expecting a complete failure, but I was literally blown away by the performance. I was able to run not only GameCube, but Wii games as well at constant 60fps. This was the biggest surprise yet and I'm still amazed how perfectly it's able to handle the emulation.

Haven't tried PS2 yet. I doubt it will be anywhere near playable state, but I'm going to try it anyway.

Man, so PCSX2 is great. Just got it set up, love the guides and layout of plugins/UI, etc., and love that I can use my actual PS2 discs to play.

Now, I'm using NBA Street Vol. 2 as my test dummy. I run at 98-100% at all times except for when I get to the game. Then I get a constant 78-85%.

Any tips to help out? I've changed the GS plugin from AVX to SSE4.1, to DX9 from DX11, turned AA & FXAA off, you know. Here are specs. Any pointers would be great. Thanks.

the loadline release thats everywhere works fine in cemu.

I found i can convert that no problem using Wudcompress into a Wux file to save space, but I cant find a key that works for it in wux format on cemu. So if you can put up with the game taking up 20+ gig in loadline format you can play it o.k.

just installed PCSX2 and God Hand. looks like the default controls are ESDF+IJKL. I killed the first two guys, then the big guy. how do I move around now? I tried all the bound keys, and nothing gets the MC out of fight mode. he's just standing and dancing to the music.

Try using the "legacy" version. Make sure you go into device manager and delete all of the virtual controllers you already have first.

The issue seems to be that I cannot get a 360 controller to show up on my computer no matter what, if I run SCP the Playstation 3 controller shows up just fine, it gives me a message when I plug it out and in, and the service is running, but it just refuses to work.

What's the deal with hardware mode in PCSX2 having graphical issues in seemingly every game?
See left (HW) and right (SW) for an example
UI sprite alignment is always slightly off even at native resolution
Sora's nose is transparent when viewed from the front
There's a weird thin fade on the top and left edges of the screen (not sure if this serves some intentional purpose)

Are you just expected to deal with this stuff when you use hardware mode or did I fuck up my settings somehow?

I default to software mode for 2D games, but for 3D games it has the caveat of looking like shit in motion because of the jaggies.
I run in native resolution regardless so I really wish I could just run software mode with some MSAA, but that's not an option

There has been discussions going on about that on the forums for months.
The conclusion was that since the RAM limit on the emulator is removed, ditching 32 bits will have no short term gain and that doing a switch like that will take years for the two people who actively work on it.

What are some ps2 games worth emulating that have LITERALLY zero glitches or missing graphics on the dx11 backend?
>>
>>165269310
I just picked a safe estimate because I didn't want to be wrong

>>165269395
Most of them if you run in software mode.

I'll write you a list:

well that pretty faggy, why are they not updating the core?

Kingdom Hearts in software mode
>>
>>165269545
Takes effort to update cores.
The more they put it off, the more there is to update.
Just use the standalone.
>>
>>165269692
Does the standalone still have input lag?
>>
>>165269545
They don't have the manpower to do it.

I wonder if it would be easier to write the core from scratch than to update it.
>>
>>165269821
From what I understand, more than RA. I don't think I've noticed it as being bad though.
>>
>>165269912
I tried playing Castlevania on the standalone about half a year ago and it was fucking unplayable.
>>
>>165270079
Feels alright to me.
>>
>>165269831
>They don't have the manpower to do it.
Yes they do. They would rather keep adding more cores to impress people, instead of prioritizing quality.
>>
When was analog auto calibration added to mednafen? It's a fucking godsent.
>>
>>165270739
Why don't you prioritize coding and make your own?
>>

Do you by chance only play RPGs? If not I find it hard to believe that you don't notice what feels like two good tenth of a second of input lag.

I play a lot of platformers. Granted, I haven't used PPSSPP much, but on starting up Dracula Chronicles X, it doesn't feel too bad to me.

Seems to be a common theme in the emu scene
>>
>>165267795
>doing a switch like that will take years for the two people who actively work on it.
Sounds ridiculous. I don't think it would take years even if the code was written in pure assembly.

Fortunately I haven't run into any serious performance issues, so I'm not going to worry about their silly decisions. I'll just use the software renderer for any games with serious graphical issues in DX11.

It's not just emudevs who do that.

Because standalone is good enough.

Fuck it.
The rom audit is not showing what is lacking.
And it has no dedicated BIOS folder.

Time to try to remember another mame versions with better UI.
>>
>>165274919
Changes somewhere in the emulator introduced bugs that only appear in not-opengl rendered. At least for me. I can't really think of any examples but like 4+ years ago the old dx9/10/11 renderers plays a lot better than they do now.

This is just my experience though don't take it as gospel.

Are both ISOZone and Emuparadise reliable public sites for roms and ISOs? I looked up a game on both and they differed in file size. Is this fairly common and nothing to be concerned about?

A little new to emulation, thanks goys.

Emuparadise isn't bad for no-intro

For discs, well, I'd say ISOZone is better, but there are good sites for certain systems.

Try them. I think the first link is better.

Hey guys, I'm having a weird problem.
A few months ago, I used PPSSPP to emulate the fan translation of Valkyria Chronicles 3, and had no issues at all, then about ten hours in my hard drive crashed for completely unrelated reasons and I lost my progress (it was a shit hard drive in the first place and made weird sounds, it was inevitable, I just thought I had more time). Now enough time has passed that I'm ready to start over, and on the same computer with the same emulator and the same game and the same hardware other than the hard drive, now I'm not getting any sound whatsoever. Anyone have any idea what I did wrong?
