Read the General problems FAQ before asking questions. If you still need help, post your specs (speccy screenshot), OS, emulator version number and details of what's wrong.

Please contribute to the wiki if you discover any inaccuracies or have relevant information to append.

READ THE WIKI BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS LIKE:
>Where do I get games
OR
>What is the best emulator for...

Check out the wiki for the emulator you're using if you run into trouble, there may be a solution there too, often including recommendations for optimal game settings.

Remember to submit bug reports or shit won't get fixed.

>>
>>165324746
>Did you try checking recommended settings on the wiki?
Yes, it's either info that is now wrong due to PCSX2's progression of development and its redesign of the way it handles the settings or info that never was right or never the absolute perfect settings.

>Did you stop to consider that maybe you weren't going to be able to get it to look 100%?

XCX is broken and only scales the UI, so other games might have some issues, too.

Speaking of XCX, how fast does your CPU need to be to run it comfortably? My 3770 expectedly struggles with it.

fuck I have a 3770 and soon a gtx 970 I thought it was enough???
what's your gpu
>>
>>165332857
GTX1060

It averages 20-25FPS in fields/towns, and 15-19FPS in battle with 4 party members. I downloaded a post-game save to see how bad it gets and the doll combat only runs slightly worse, so it seems totally playable as long as you can adjust to the slow speed.

Most dumps that you will find will require fixes due to over/under dumping. People who upload the roms only upload the original scene releases.

UMD dumps also have issues. For example:

http://renascene.com/info/umd/1260

Some of those fixes are near impossible to find. I would suggest someone who lives in a more free country to upload them.

My guess is some sort of challenge and response, it definately checks the serial.bin against the server. It also sends a HWID which is a bunch of processor specific information plus a harddrive serial number which is made into a 32bit number.

The protection is pretty shittastic, though there was lots of spaghetti code.

>>
Multiplayer: For systems that support multiplayer it seems like they have a lot of issues with syncing not to mention settings and version issues. For systems with linking multiplayer where latency is critical making it seems like multiplayer over a long distance is unrealistic.

Wouldn't it be better to have a server client model rather than a p2p model?

A server handling everything and the clients be as simple as possible mostly just handling the video output and sending button presses to the server?

For example a server has an emulator running acting as two gameboys linked together, it sends the data of one gameboy to player 1 and the other gameboy to player 2. Then the only concern is the latency of the connection. The server will always be in sync because its synced with itself.

Serious tip, get an n3DS if you want to play that game.
Hack it and then download the game.
It's better to do it this way than to wait for Citra to be remotely good for everything that isn't a popular game.

So I just decided to try putting a PSX emulator on my debian, but things aren't going too well.
PCSX-R doesn't seem to be able to run multi-tracked games for some reason (Fighting Force works FINE as long as you're either fine with constant ear-rape or disable the music in options) while ePSXe absolutely -hates- the directional buttons on my controller.
What should I do here? Can I fix one of them somehow or is there a better choice for an emulator?

You can use x64dbg to decompile as well as debug applications. It uses the Snowman decompiler which is not as developed as IDA Pro's Hex Rays decompiler, but its okay.

x64dbg also has built in import reconstruction, and code flow graphs, which is nice. There is also antidebug code plugins which are useful for dedicated protections such as VMProtect/Denuvo, Obsidium, and Armadillo, since they automatically hook and neuter the calls those DRMs use to detect whether a debugger is present. They also patch other things DRMs use, like checking the PEB block.

There's plenty of tutorials to get into assembly. x86-x64 is not much difference to x86, apart from call conventions and size/number of registers that is.

>>
>>165445814
One argument against software piracy is that it can be an attack vector for malware. Some people might think emulation is immune to this because the software you're downloading runs on a virtual machine rather than your real machine, but if the emulator has a vulnerability that results in arbitrary code execution, that's not the case and running arbitrary ROMs is technically as bad as running arbitrary .exes from a security perspective. Dolphin is a complicated emulator for a complicated system, so it's bound to have tons of vulns, and sure enough, that guy found one on a whim.

It's a bit disingenuous to say that it's "exactly the same risk" though, because it isn't. Anyone can put malware in native software, but it takes a bit of talent to exploit a vulnerability in another program, so there will be less people doing it. Also, if you download a Wii game from a dodgy site, you can verify the hash against the redump version, but you can't do this with PC games because a lot of them come cracked. Also, he says "most other emulators," but he's hugely overstating the risk for simpler emulators, eg. 4th generation and below.

Also not all emudevs are complete hacks, so some of them fuzz their emulators for security flaws: https://mgba.io/2016/09/13/fuzzing-emulators/

Partly because of that drama on Haze's blog a few years ago, partly because they feel it competes with MAME since it has several MAME cores, and Haze seems to think it "hides the need to make a good emulator" (i.e do things the MAME way, which is BS because libretro just an API and core authors can implement their internals however they feel like) and "panders to the 98%" by not explicitly supporting cash register emulation or something (Haze doesn't make too much sense to be honest).

>If nothing else, what you’re seeing right now show that right now people do have an interest in making up for the shortfall in our official release schedule, much as projects like MamePlus and UME (and to a lesser, more dangerous extent the projects that glue emulators together like retroarch) make up for what I consider a shortfall in our willingness to be more open about what we support and the frontends / interface replacements you talk about (MEWui, MameUI + more) make up for what people consider a shortfall in our user interface layers.

Haze specifically calls RA "dangerous" which prompted questioning, then SP was told about it.

Yes, Haze wrote that March 28, 2014.
SP responded April 5, 2014. And he didn't rage then. Was even pretty civil about it. No big deal.

He wend mad April 8, 2014. Three days later. After very civil response that Haze won't be stopping him to compile that libretro core, but he must do it by himself. So he got full permission to do own work, and that strangely set him off.

I really find it hard to believe the Cemu developers actually think people will make shader mods for games with the current tools. They suggest two tools, and as far as I can tell neither one actually works well enough to do anything - and aren't particularly suited to OpenGL either.

Games are going to need shader fixes to look right; pretty much anything with FXAA or depth of field has to have the coordinates fixed. Fortunately there are only 5 or so games in the Wii U's library that anyone cares about but until then people are going to be confused about why everything looks like a muddy mess for the next year.

Sorry for the blog.

Do you have a 4k monitor? For me that's not bad at all though it's kind of flat looking, I'd just saturate that up and call it a day personally.

But the DOF in Xenoblade does look awful I agree with you there, I can definitely see some autist fixing that game though, considering the first game got that massive HD texture pack.

Yeah, I do. The thing is that it's flat because it's getting smeared by the broken AA shader.

I'm just concerned about whether anyone will bother to make fixes. I've done shader replacement mods before for PC games, so I have an idea of how it should be fixed, but it seems the only working method right now is manually combing through the shader dumps until you find the right file. Only an absolute madman would try to fix it like that.

There are plenty. I don't know shit but I can't imagine the issues you're talking about being much different than modders hex editing out motion blur and depth of field from DMC4 SE in like a day. Or how Durante fixed the games he fixed pretty much instantly.

Hell to begin with shader replacement and injection even being a thing is something only madmen thought up.

This is a reverser kind of thing. Most people initially get interested in cracking because muh warez and once they get good enough, "grow up" so to speak, at it they realize how much work is being put in DRM sometimes so whenever they see shitty DRM they try to offer advice (or point out the elementary flaws to make themselves look like smartasses) to make it more challenging. Mere leechers will never understand.

You'd be surprised how many people only reverse DRM for their own amusement and never release any cracks, saying crackers release them for the challenge is only partially true, because you only really need to release a crack to prove it to the nontechnical leechers that you did it (people who actually know shit about reversing, you know, the ones whose opinion should actually matter to you as a reverser would rather see a detailed paper on inner workings of the protection) or perhaps to boost your ego with yet another l33t rls.

I'm sure they put little effort into the DRM since the emulation scene is filled with skids and leechers. I wouldn't have gone hard core with the DRM if I was in charge. Especially since all they do is release private builds a week or two early.

Thanks for the advice. I've used x64dbg for x64 apps but didn't realize it had those features. Does it support debugging child processes? I ended up resorting to debugging the 32bit version of the application I was trying to remove nag screen from, since I'm used to using ollydbg. I had to debug a child process in order to figure out how to remove nag.

Do you know a good place to get a recent version of IDA pro?

I hate when I get side effects from patching. For some reason the application I'm currently hacking, doesn't work properly when I patch out the low-level keyboard hook (they disable stuff like alt tab). Yet if I patch the code during run time, it works fine lol.. I couldn't be bothered digging deeper so I wrote a quick and hacky program that runs the application and then patches the code. I really dislike using silly workarounds but I don't have as much free time as I'd like, these days.

Anyway, maybe I'll try learning ARM so I can crack Drastic. Anyone know if the latest version of Drastic is already cracked?

ITT: A project with a highly advanced A/V frontend with 849,413 system lines of code and many man-hours put into it, using an API with a large library of largely self-ported cores (including some that have significant additions over the upstream) is not allowed to ask for funding to cover costs for servers or future endeavors because it happens to have ports of emulators written by third parties.

No. That's RetroArch only, no cores included, according to what the Github-SLOC Firefox add-on says. It's probably due to all the code it has for each platform it supports, and also other things like the Vulkan driver.

On the other hand, I forgot they include the spirv-cross and glslang code directly in the source tree under deps now, so subtract 25,165 and 277,856 SLOC and that still leaves about 546,392 SLOC.

It does have a practical utilization if you include Dinothawr, lutro, and aliaspider's gbemu.

Also, GPL means that it is OK to use third party code for any purpose as long as the source is provided. You would have a cause to crusade against if they didn't share the source for every fucking thing they ever did, unlike certain Android ports and shady companies.

>The fuck.
>Are dolphin devs really this fucking stupid?
Yes. Honestly not that surprised. What the hell is the point of having a shader cache that isn't portable? Sounds retarded Tbh senpai.

>"Dolphin, unlike Cemu, is already optimized to a point where the cache generator wait is negligeable."
I'm more surprised at ridiculous comments like this. Don't know how people can resort to shilling Dolphin while bashing CEMU.. Ironically, I think the CEMU devs are much more sensible and seem to know how to get things done.
>>
>>165532083
I am more surprised by the retarded reasoning the dev used to justify his decision

>Sure someone will go through the effort to play through popular games like melee and wind waker to generate a shader cache and share it (You have to go out of your way to encounter every single shader in the game).

>But when you want to play insert less popular but nostalgic game from your childhood here, there won't be any cached shaders and you will still suffer through all the stuttering.

How is this even a valid concern? Imagine if internet was not distributed just because everyone won't have equal coverage.
>>

>>
>>165533835
I agree with the points you made. I'm honestly wondering why they even have a shader cache in the first place, if that's their mentality.

I honestly don't take their statements seriously. If they cared so much about accuracy / preservation, they would have done a better job on the software renderer.

Heads up for the people at the wiki page, the recommendation for PS1 bios is SCPH-1001 (ps-22a.bin) however it has issues with some games, mostly capcom vs snk pro and wild arms 3, not said there but other people like to go for newer models, mainly psone bios, that also is wrong since it is incompatible with some "obscure" titles, the best bios and most compatible to go for in EPSXE/PCSXR is either SCPH-7502 (pal, ps-41e.bin) or SCPH-7501 (ntsc, ps-41a.bin)

Can't you just put a breakpoint on createprocess or whatever?

I am lazy so I just use API Monitor (supports x64) when dealing with software that spawns new processes, its monitoring feature suspends every new process when asking if you want to hook it so you can just attach x64dbg or olly in the meantime and press skip.

For patch checks I'd just put a hwbp on the patched data, assuming the software doesn't remove them

That's for save states. He's asking about a save file.

You shouldn't need to do anything to transfer save files between emulators, they're all the same. Maybe it's not named right.

Hey guys, messing around with Retroarch, using an Xbox One controller, wondering how to set ff toggle to Select+Start. I know you have to mess around the config file but I don't wanna fuck anything up. Any help appreciated.

So I'm mentally challenged and I don't know what to do.

I downloaded a bunch of PS1 games wich all came in a .cue and .bin pair.

When I try to run either of those, ePSXe just instantly crashes and doesn't load the game.

Am I missing a step?
>>
>>165618835
Yes, replacing epsxe with something else.
>>

>>165619091
Then it's probably something concerning your video plugin. I'd suggest you try Mednafen or Retroarch, it takes a bit more effort but you still don't need to be Hackerman tier to run them, and it'll be a lot more hassle-free in the long run.

Gave the first few minutes a try on 1.6.4b with default settings.
Hovered around 25-30 fps for the most part. With the rare dip into 18-19fps territory.
Lots of stuttering and hang ups otherwise, as well as a couple graphical glitches, including purple grass and the camera sometimes zooming in on nothing in particular during cutscenes.
I suppose things like that are to be expected at the moment.

I mean, don't get me wrong.
I don't use or support Cemu for several reasons, most important one being that it's closed-source.
But that's not really an argument on it being packed with malware.
I mean, curl can be used to upload data too (for example, to check the serial.bin). Not only downloading stuff.
But I see how it's frightening nonetheless.
That being said, you should never trust closed-source software.
>>
>>165646936
>That being said, you should never trust closed-source software.

>>
>>165646969
It's not only paranoia and I would lie if I said that I'm not paranoid at all.
But it's actually more my curiousity that's at fault here.
I always hated to not know how stuff works, even if it's something that people don't even really think about, like consoles (both software and hardware) or electronics in general.

Probably too old now, but anyone still use their old PSP to play PSX games?

Just wondered if anyone knew what "disc speed loading" setting actually does - it seems to make things load faster (ie, scene changes in Final Fantasy), but how?
>>
>>165650362
Because it doesn't have to read from a CD so it might as well not emulate how a CD seeks for data and stuff.
>>
Dunno if this is exactly the place to ask, but does anyone know what that program is that pipes PSP games to your PC? Not an emulator, the game runs on the PSP and displays in a window on the PC to my knowledge.

>>165651057
>Doesn't that program also allow you to use a controller?
The game is still getting processed on the PSP. You are going to lose the same amount of battery as before.
Just run an emulator if your game is supported on that.
>>
>>165651007
The USB plug is at the top of the device while the AC adapter plug digs into my right hand. The screen's also scratched to shit from actually using it as a portable, and the ghosting on top of that gets really bothersome.

If you don't know the program I'm talking about, you don't have to reply.
