What is your opinion on Demon Gaze, /vitagen/?
I'm like 10 hours into the game and I'm bored to tears. Everything is so bland and boring, I can't stand it. I might be spoiled coming from EO3 and SMT:SJ as my last DRPGs, but holy shit this game is just... cap. correct me if I'm wrong and things become better later on, but I heavily doubt it

Its kinda shit, very bland. I played it after spending 120~ hours in DT2 and having finished the post-game of all Etrian Odyssey games and Strange Journey, though. The thing that irked me the most was that the game seemed to have four music tracks and half of them were full of generic Vocaloid garbage.

Eh, I found it fun enough. Though it was only my third DRPG, Moe Chronicle and DT2 was the first two. It's definitely not as good as DT2, but way better than Moe even though it also had its good moments.

The characters in DG were pretty good, wish they would have made the party characters permanent too. Well, that's kinda solved in DG2 I think. The demon circle system was pretty good, enjoyed the feeling that there will be some equipment to be had from the circles.

But yeah, it still feels pretty barebones experience, especially after DT2. But overall, I enjoyed it and even platted it, helps that I do like vocaloid music too.

In terms of map and enemy variety, and pretty much everything else, atelier blows nepshit completely out of the water. Even the ps2 ateliers were far than they best nep games, if only because they were actually functional and didn't reuse the same 3 maps and enemy models for the whole game (and every single game after that).

Their original audience is really the old school crawler players, who are very used to the Wiz formula. Then as they developed more games, they gear towards a more casual style. Their newer games are considerbly more friendly towards light (drpg) users and they are becoming easier to consume, though they also try to keep some difficulty there. I.e. they appeal to two groups here: old schoolers and players who like a more casual styled crawler.

The main points in EXP's games are that
- they added in story, characters and some voice acting. These are very rare for the older Wiz clones, sometimes even non-existent.
- a more structured equipment and hunting system. One of the characteristics of their games is you can often farm equipment to beat a previously kinda impossible boss, so the treasure hunting can sometimes be quite fun.
- more customization and variety for skills and classes. The best you get in the past is probably dual classing.
- misc stuff that speeds up battle and exploration

What happens in the end is a fast paced (actually the fastest) crawler, along with treasure hunting and story to keep things interesting. It also involves lesser planning, which adds to the pacing. But, obviously these didn't appeal to you.

As a comparison, EO is much slower paced with elaborate (though nice) animations, pretty much fixed equipment selection per stage, not much story parts and very high complexity in skill / party customization. Personally I find their approach to be very different.

One other thing that's worth pointing out is that EO and SJ are made by an established company. EXP started out as a team of 6. There's really no comparison in terms of production capability, I imagine.

And no, DG does not change much.

Making you start with only 2 so you can get started right away, having 4 difficulty levels to choose from, giving you dedicated places to farm equipment etc. It's designed in a pretty friendly way I'd say, aside from the rents.

Meruru's game is the best of the Arlands as it's a cross between what both Rorona+ and Totori+ got right, but generally speaking Meruru herself is the least liked of the MCs. Not that she's bad but she's a token genki type while Rorona and Totori are...well, Rorona and Totori. But yeah, her game is great.

I bought the full game. All the characters have the exact same moveset, the only thing you can buy are health and "Heat" upgrades. No branching combos, no cancelling, no nothing.

Camera is incredibly unresponsive, the cheerleader mechanic is incredibly obtrusive and trashes the little momentum the game can achieve. The "crazy awesome" moments shilled so much on trailers, can only be used on specific points of the stages and aren't very useful. You can't skip the groping cutscenes at all, something that becomes infuriating when you're trying to plat the game.

Oh and if you thought the 5 mill trophy on VD was bad, just wait to the one asking to use 10k times the special moves, or the one asking you to find the randomly spawned bosses in the stages or to collect all the slot combinations in the panty roulette.

No character has specific moves otherwise some cheerleader requests wouldn't be able to be fullfilled with every character. What they do have are different animations and those are recycled between them. The shota looking guy shares animations with the girl, the wrestler shares animations with the mechanic and so on.

If you played Shinovi Versus on Vita, then it's pretty much like that but it looks quite a bit better.
Also instead of the one long load time into a level like SV, EV breaks it up into 2 or 3 shorter chunks so it feels less bad.
I haven't played the PS4 version but I thought the Vita version was fine.

The only moves shared on SK and VD are the movement ones, the actual attacks are very different and every character has different combo trees available to them. Just look at this chart for VD. There's nothing of the sorts on Uppers, hell there isn't even a movements screen!
