The fact it quite literally destroys your eyes? The pupils become mush as you start turning, that's why people like Gascoigne and Amelia have their eyes covered over. Seems pretty overtly symbolic of the eventual mindlessness that beasthood brings. If it's all about getting eyes, beasthood actually removes the only other ones you had. As for functioning eyes, I'm of the opinion beasts don't see you, they smell you. Chapel Dweller mentions the incense masking your scent and Annalise calls you a 'moon-scented hunter'.

And Ashen Blood was a plague aside from the scourge, that's why Old Yharnam is full of antidotes, it was to try and cure whatever the deal with that was.

But in retrospect I forgot to account for Beasthood when calculating that, so flat damage probably isn't as good on Claws as it initially seems, because the low modifiers get increases by Beasthood.

I can't really compare Maria to Gehrman in terms of difficulty. By the time DLC came out I was much better at the game and Maria wasn't much of a hassle. But by that time I would never die to Gehrman either. That said, Maria is still easier than the other DLC bosses, if she was more aggressive like Orphan it would be great.

Anyway, both their arenas are definitely my favourite. Ludwig's an awesome fight, but his pool of blood didn't impress me, symbolic or not.

I have yet to see any evidence of functioning sight in beasts. Two characters refer to your presence via scent, one of which has a metal helmet covering her entire head, whose knights have sheets metal covering their faces, too, and lets not forget the good ol' Golden Ardeo. And the mush-pupil'd blood-druk hunter's eye, which can be seen too in the cinematic that plays on the main menu up close.

Lack of proof isn't proof of the negative, but I understand your point of view. Not all beasts have bright colored pits for eyes, and shining eyes aren't necessarily not functional.

I won't argue this point anymore though since you do make some compelling arguments for at least some humans, but it is ultimately conjecture, at least as far as lycanthropes, Abhorrent, Beast's Embrace, and other such beasts are concerned.

Ashen Blood was the name given to the disease Yharnamites thought was causing the scourge. If you want to look at it that way, you could say that there is no "Ashen Blood" disease, per se, but only the Scourge. The Antidotes were made to cure the Scourge, what Old Yharnamites called Ashen Blood, but it could not, and so they burned Old Yharnam, and the Scourge continued.

If it's boss watchers I usually go for triple clawmark to obliterate them quicker, as higher discovery doesn't increase gem ratings, effects or offshape chances - and bosses guarantee gem drops anyway

There are a lot of unique combo moves you can only do with high stamina (not that that's one of them) that many people don't even seem to know exist, because they think anyone who puts enough points into stamina to be able to get to the fourth or fifth hit in one combo (w/ R2's mixed in) is retarded. Some of these combos are great for stun-locking, which allows you to get away with swinging for a long time without having to dodge.

Burial Blade is a bit of an outlier for skill weapons in that it's actually kind of stamina-heavy. Beyond that, though, it's the same as any other skill weapon- 50 skill, with 25 strength as an optional bonus. I was trying the BoM with 3 flat gems, and Rom is somewhat weak to arcane so we could beat him before phase 2. But without the multipliers I get a better R1 combo starter but worse everything else, so my dream of BoM plus arcane tools is likely not possible without heavy compromise at level 117.

I was trying to compensate points in skill for 50 arcane with minimum effect on BoM AR. That one is more or less what I have now, except 15 arcane, 10 bloodtinge for reuter, 11 strength for loch shield, and endurance as dump stat.

I just started a new game and only got points in vitality so far. Will focus on converted Saif instead since it's the second best thing after the BoM.

It's a pure skill build (50 skill, 15 arc). I use the shield with the reiter, and with 2 stamina gems when using the BoM I can even block loran darkbeast AoE attack (if I'm the host I just dodge it though, online the lag makes me get one shotted sometimes), although I mostly use for when I'm cornered.

I wanted to combine the BoM and high damage hunter tools in a hypothetical build, but it doesn't seem much worth it.
