All that /v/ nonsense made me curious so I went and checked out a couple let's plays for FFXV. It honestly looks pretty _bad.

Ok, maybe not bad. But, so far (~1 hour) pretty weak. There's no world building or plot establishing opening cutscene which is really disappointing, since after watching Kingsglaive I was absolutely in love with the idea of FFXV's world. Combat seems really annoying to micromanage and driving on rails is really lame. Magic as a consumable is a strange choice. I doubt I'll ever like a system more than Materia. Not being able to customize your character, even though it's SOP for FF games, is really antiquated by now, and what a fucking sausage fest it's been so far.

I have difficult time believing the game will be very good, unless it really opens up later.

It's difficult to say

I used to run FCs with Mensis 19.8% gems, before going to DLC gems which were slightly better

I'd recommend getting full sets of depth 5 FRC cursed gems, like 27.2%, but whether you want to go for perfect bonuses and offshapes is your call

It does make a difference, top-tier BB PVP feels like you're wearing the calamity ring constantly

In case you didn't know all weapons scale with arcane. But arcane only improves Fire/Bolt/Arc damage. So arcane boosts Boom Hammers fire damage, and usually does nothing for the Beast Cutter (since it has 0 elemental base damage) but by using a gem you can convert the Beast Cutter (or any 100% physical weapon) to Fire/Bolt/Arc and it will now scale off Arcane.
