That's definitely my plan once I'm able to build up to it, but for the early-mid game I'll likely still use Black Knights, explained as rezzed knights from Merovich's army.

Anyway, The Red Duke's army, swollen from the raised corpses of Mousillon's peasantry, advances through the countryside, ravaging every village they cross paths with, each slaughter increasing the number of the Undead Duke's legions. Duke Adalhard starts levying a force to push back the former Bretonnian lord, but is layed siege in the capital city itself!

Mousillon's forces outnumber the beleagured defenders by a decent margin but the garrison houses 6 units of archers which could, unchecked, severely damage the undead forces.

The Red Duke sets up his army against the southern gate, with his numerous zombies shielding the advance of the more effective skeleton units. A skeleton unit and The Red Duke's elite grave guard, de Rais' Raiders, are manning the siege towers and will hopefully make short work of the men stationed on the wall.

The few black knight groups have been hidden in the forest behind the main lines until the gate is opened where they can be more successfully utilized.

I'm pretty much the opposite. I like Beastmen a lot, they are probably my favorite faction to play besides the VCs/Empire.

Morghur doesn't look as good as I thought he would though. He looks fine in-game for the most part, but his cloth hood/face-cover seems really shitty looking. Like it is on low-res while the rest of him is high-res.

Yea, around turn 20 or so the Wood Elf AI will confederate all the respective factions one after another and become an early game super-power.

Example:

The siege towers dock on Lyonesse's walls, and their units quickly sally out of the macabre structures and attack the defenders on the walls. the units, however, are surrounded by the enemy halberds, and locked in place, until The Red Duke and the other skeletons make their way up the walls and into the rear of the peasants, sending them into a rout. Since the threat of ranged fire is significantly less, the Black Knights swing in front of the gate to ride in once it opens.

How do we fix auto-resolve in TW?
I suggest a mini-game of some sort.
At the very least I'd say they lay out a grid where your cards go and you make your battle lines. Or you see both yours and your enemy's cards and you chose your cards to hit what enemy cards.
Though the only way to make it a little fair is to have it all be hidden values. Sure it'll be looked up and figured out but not as many people will utilize the numbers at least.

Oh, I've got an idea about this.
Maybe if the auto-resolve isn't in your favor you could play a game where you actually place your units and control them around the map in a simulated battle.

You could even have some units with abilities or able to cast spells to make it more interesting.

There's essentially a hidden stat that determines when a melee engaged unit ignores an order to disengage. If a unit you tell to move or disengage breaks a certain limit they will instead engage the enemy. Can't remember if it's tied to attacks or damage or what. Either way, if you need to get a unit out of melee you're probably going to have to micro them a bit and keep issuing the command until all the models are free.

yes, flying units are especially bad about it because of balance. You need something like 6 seconds without a single model being attacked to take flight again. Vargheists in particular are both large models and susceptible to getting staggered so they're probably one of the most difficult to extract units in the game. Honestly, I'm OK with it because otherwise cycle-charging high damage flying units would be almost unstoppable. Just being a little more selective about your targets will usually avoid the need to quickly extract them in the first place. Look on the bright side, you don't really lose anything by sacrificing a RoR.

handgunners are way more accurate than crossbowmen because their projectiles are faster and they shoot in a flat trajectory, so friendly fire isn't a huge concern. What you should do is form your handgunners into square formations then put gaps in your front melee line juuuust slightly thinner than that. Think of like, a checkerboard pattern with the first row melee units and the second row handgunners. The enemy front line will blob around your units into the gap and the handgunners will pick em off the whole battle.

They both have their roles. Putting handgunners in the center of your line (staggered back behind melee units of course) will trash the hell out of charging chaos units.

Outriders are great because they can circle around a flank and do a good amount of damage while also tanking the enemy units' morale.

Taking both is a good idea but ultimately I prefer handgunners because the AI has such a hardon for flanker units which can make it hard to reliably and quickly position outriders.

Did Realm of the Knife Ears change how difficult it is to make other factions into vassals?

I'm playing an Empire campaign and through numerous Defensive Alliances with Karaks Hirn, Norn, and Ziflin I've been dragged into all sorts of wars against the Brettonian factions and the Wood Elves.

I think only twice did I ever fight Wood Elves, and a few skirmishes with Bordelaux.

It's turn 90ish and I've got vassals out my ass, Wood Elves, Bordelaux, Brettonia, Artois, my three Karak bros, and I think Bastonne.

And these were all claimed after ONE turn of war, and part of a peace treaty next turn.
