I like holy/prot better for pvp while leveling as you're really really annoying to kill and improved freedom (forget the talent name, sorry) is so good, 45sec cd stun isn't bad either if you take it.

it doesn't matter if they don't pull as much threat as a real tank if you don't have 3 raid geared dps which isn't really likely unless you're doing end game 5 mans and even then pally threat is more or less fine and you aren't going to be wasting too much time unless the dps is like AQ geared or something

pallies don't oom post SoW either, unless it's a particularly hard pull and they have to pull out ALL the stops. That probably means you pulled an extra pack or two and you had to max rank cons until the end while popping consumables and emergency measures like LoH.

we're not talking fucking raids here, nobody is going to dispute that warriors are strictly better than pallies as raid tanks and the only way a pally tank is viable in a raid is as an off tank that only really exists to AoE tank or if you bust your ass playing 12 hours a day farming every consumable in the game and min-maxing like a madman just to be able to tank a boss.

pally tanks are for 5 mans, and they're better than warriors on nost. pally tanks are literally a 4th dps and this really cuts down on the time it takes to do an instance, especially ones that are good for AoE

Hi, this is the first time I will roll on a vanilla private server with some friends thanks to the Nostalrius relaunch,
I have been interested in vanilla for years but always found it very discouraging on private servers due to lack of players and scripting issues.

However,
I heard about Nostalrius just before it shut down(sadly I didn’t experience it) and it was said to be a big server with a very realistic experience.
I really want to try the vanilla experience,

I like grinding and hard gameplay that makes you appreciate your achievements more.
I will most likely roll a mage.
However, I know relatively little about them in vanilla,
I have made some research and I know about what specialisation to pick,
such as frost for levelling, and some simple things like selling everything that drops and getting a wand early.

However, I have a question regarding professions (they confuse me).
Should I pick any professions while levelling and what is the most proper level to do so, or should I wait to 60? And what professions that are a “must have” for my class?

paladins are almost strictly better than warriors in some of the more painful pre 60 dungeons as well. tell me the last time you didn't want to kill yourself after doing BRD or ST with a warrior. with a pally tank it's tolerable because they can hold threat on every mob in the pack and do some 50-80 dps on every mob making the dungeons go significantly faster.

so for professions, its normally worth picking at least one gathering profession while leveling as it will help fund you, however since this is a server launch, and a big one at that, mining and herb nodes are gonna be really hard to come by
picking up skinning is normally always good for a little extra cash because you'll always have to be killing beasts, however the problem is that a lot of other people will have the same idea meaning the AH is probably gonna be flooded with leather = not much money

as for mage though, having tailoring at end game is pretty important, there are a good amount of really good pieces of gear that mages use through most of the raids
besides that it's whatever, engineering is good for pvp, ench/alchemy can be good money, lw/bs pretty bad for a mage

oh and level up first aid, it's basically required for everybody
