>The conditions under which war bears are prepared for their day on the battlefield is a closely guarded secret, though commonly-held assumptions are that these conditions probably are not great. One world-leading animal psychologist has noted that war bears, though all different, do seem to display acute signs of depression and anxiety, even more so than their human comrades fighting battle alongside them. The psychologist recommended that the bears be released back to nature at once. When faced with this accusation on a live telecast, representatives for the Ministry of Experimental Science responded by repeating the psychologist's words in a mocking, high-pitched tone, then ordered her to be incarcerated for treason.

Not him but that's technically already the case. A space victory doesn't entail 'losing' on the part of anyone else.
The same way there can be losers without winners, there exist winners without losers.
I'm not sure, though, what exactly he means. If it was one of those 'race to space' games then it'd probably work out fine if the guy who 'won' the space victory just disappears or something since they're off to Barnard's Star or some shit, but I can't really think of any other way. Diplomatic Victory I guess doesn't have any real losers either. In theory. It's what Firaxis would think, at least.

No, you have to re-buy them again, to support the starving swedes.
>>
>>161563795
That's untrue though, and I'm not him.
I have no fucking idea what he's talking about or what he's suggesting, but 'winning without creating losers' is basically the entire idea of all the victory types besides Conquest and maybe Religious as theoretically nobody is worse off and people may actually be better off for it happening. Losers without winners is the entire concept of MAD, despite the idea that hey maybe you're not TOTALLY destroyed.
Furthermore I just fucking suggested if he meant something like a race for second place however retarded that may sound, because personally it is kind of bumfuck stupid sounding that you somehow 'lose' to a rocket setting up on Alpha Centauri, even if you proceed to dominate the entire globe within a few months of the rocket lauch.

It's the logic behind Kumagawa being the eternal loser, because it's not about whether or not he technically won the competition but that literally everyone ends up worse for it, himself included. Same shit with a 'victory without losers'.
I'm talking about the terminology and essentially arguing semantics. Stop being a kneejerking imbecile.
>>
>>161564290
In the game there can be only one winner making your whole argument pointless
>>
Is there a crack for the patch for Civ 6?
>>
>>161564403
>in the game
First of all, there are plenty of games without winners, even in Strategy. For one, all of the Paradox games except the Hearts of Iron series completely lack winners, even in World Conquest.
Second of all, I'm not actually talking about the game, if you haven't fucking realized, but noting that there actually isn't a 'loser' in Space Victory, just people who failed to explicitly win. This, as opposed to Religion or Domination victories, where if you lose, you actually fucking lost.
>>

>>161564727
Let's make this clear - in strategy, a 'loser' generally denotes someone, who, you know, actually fucking lost something. A winner is someone who actually fucking won something. People who are neither are bystanders.
Get out of your gayman mentality, I'm literally not talking about the game right now.
If the United States of America launched a rocket tomorrow to Mars, does that mean everyone else lost? They probably lost the space race, sure, but not necessarily anything else, and almost certainly didn't lose anything they actually had instead of just 'future potential'. Compare that to the idea of the US going haywire and somehow conquering everyone on the globe, where, while the US also definitely won (unless they fall apart trying to administer it), everyone else actually lost everything.

>cuck
>using cuck unironically
>>
>>161565030
In the settings and confines of a VIDEO game where 'winning' means being first to one of a set of objectives, and not being first means you agreed to lose then yes. If all nations of the world met at the UN tomorrow and said "Guys the first person to settle Mars wins best country award" and they all agree to it then YES objectively that means that everyone but the first did not win thus they lose.
>>
Simply copying the DLC from a torrent into Stellaris/dlc/ seems to have done the job.
>>
>>161566105
The definition of loser is not 'he who did not win', you idiot, and I already fucking told you I am not talking about the game. Can you not read?
>>
I want swede cuckolds to leave. You have to tend rapefugees anyway, why the fuck are you slacking?
>>
>>161566167
That's correct, it's one of the only redeeming qualities of Paradox's business model.
While DLC spamming is retarded and CK2 isn't worth 250 dollars or whatever the fuck it is now, it certainly is worth the base price of around 40 and you get years of support, free patches and content packs, the ability to enable and disable those content packs and change your game version to previous ones if you dislike the new changes, and even a relatively in-depth modding solution for the low low price of the release tag.

>>161566382
You're literally just arguing semantics because you refuse to acknowledge someone who didn't win as someone who lost. Imagine how silly you would look out in the real world having this discussion.
>>
>>161567751
>imagine how silly
I wouldn't look silly at all, because there is an actual distinction made between 'not winning' and 'losing' in the real world and there always has been. Losing means you've actually, you know, lost something. Winning means you actually, you know, won something.
Someone who didn't win in something like sports loses, because generally, the definition of losing there is actually 'to not win'. In strategy and NOT JUST GAMES, which is what I'm talking about, losing is completely a seperate entity from winning at all. You can win without causing anyone to lose, and you can lose without causing anyone to win.
>>
>>161564012
Yes, if Babylonian astronauts depart to Alpha Centauri moments before Gandhi kills every non-Indian on Earth, the Babylonians win. This is because they have become an interstellar civilization whereas the losers are still fucking around on their home planet like they have been for the last 6000 years.

Of course the science victory doesn't make sense anymore, because all you're doing now is sending Matt Damon to Mars so that he can do 'science' (after being at the very end of the tech tree anyway) and then come back to whatever is left of Earth. But as Sid Meier envisioned it the science victory was legitimate.
>>
>>161568286
I think they guy is trying to imply that just because a civilization reaches space exploration and habitation first doesn't mean they lost, because they can still go on while on Earth to win other victory methods and be remembered for it. In your scenario he is implying that Babylon and India won.
>>
>>161568431
Yes, they can be remembered as quaint natives who got 2nd place, in the same way that the people in my slums in Stellaris are remembered for how much it costs for my spacefaring civilization to get rid of them.

>Yes, if Babylonian astronauts depart to Alpha Centauri moments before Gandhi kills every non-Indian on Earth, the Babylonians win. This is because they have become an interstellar civilization whereas the losers are still fucking around on their home planet like they have been for the last 6000 years.
That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Do you understand what losing actually means? I never denied that the Babylonians in that case would 'win'. I deny that the Indians have lost, since it's actually reasonable enough that the Indians, with their non-destroyed infrastructure, could create a far greater interstellar empire than the 1 pop city on Alpha Centauri without any home support.

Not yet. It's on my backlog, after Polaris Sector. Looks fine to be honest.

Stop hopping between real world and game definitions of terms to suit your argument. By the terms of a competitive game if you don't win then you lose when another person (the winner) reaches a required objective. This whole argument came from a guy asking about a victory condition in game where nobody lost, so stop bringing in real world scenarios. No, it is silly to have a victory condition in a competitive genre where everyone wins.

>>
>>161573265
Youtubers and streamers are completely seperate entities. To me a youtuber is merely someone who uploads shit onto youtube. There are people who upload videos of bug lifecycles and shit or make AMVs, those are Youtubers too as far as I care.
>>
>>161572724
His videos are informative but they're skewed because he bases his civ, civics, and wonder rankings on competitive play aka Fox only, final destination only, no items. Plus since hes kind of the face of the group he plays with everyone goes easy on him in matches because if they dare attack him early on then he will call them out as irrelevant and just trying to troll, even when they have a good chance of winning. His last match ended like this.

>3 relevant people left
>Filthy got 'bored' so he said they should call a three way draw
>One guy playing Germany was only a few turns away from space victory and declined
>Filthy and Japan start pming each other to cooperate and simultaneously nuke him and let Japan have the cities so they can two way draw

Obviously theres no 'rules' against cooperating against someone about to win, but its supposed to imply that both surviving players still intend to face off.

Except they're not even that informative unless you play like he does. Even that guy for the AoE2 civilization rankings does far better, at least he actually takes different settings and gamemodes into account.
I mean no shit Viking civs are dogshit if you're on Pangea, but Harald is actually a nightmare on island maps and in CiV, Bluetooth was pretty good on island maps too because of his free disembark.

Anything I should look out for?
How strong are the undead?
>>
>>161574969
The undead are the weirdest of the bunch. They don't train their units normally : all their infantry starts as unexpensive skeletons, and you upgrade them by paying.

Just get a necromancer or a demon summoner hero and you have a huge advantage.

Otherwise, be careful for shitty pathfinding. I don't know how to explain it, but when a group of unit move, each unit has its own path, so two units will try to use different paths to reach the same point. It's a bit complicated.

Also :
DEAD HEROES ARE DEAD UNTIL THE END OF THE MAP.
Rush the enemy hero as quickly as possible and the AI is fucked up. Get your hero killed, and you're fucked up. Only the HQ and the general can capture ressources points.

Be careful for units having a high combat stat. That stat determines their damage, and works pretty much like a multiplier. A Doom Knight with a damage of 25 will often land critical strikes for, what, 2x the damage? Enough to kill a lot of things in three hits.

>>161575931
I don't think the experiment is meant to prove anything, just an experiment into social animal behaviour.
What I believe the experiment is stressing is that those new monkeys continue to try and 'fit in', despite not know the reasoning behind it, however sound it may have been. Similarly, the point is that social animals create a 'culture' around themselves, many times for much the same reason just grander or in the case of humans more in-depth with their own provided reasoning. I mean, why exactly is a frontal assault considered honorable in Medieval Europe but simply retarded in the same time period in China? It's really a matter of traditions and 'culture'. That monkey population has created a 'culture' of never touching the banana, despite it looking like free food.
>>
>>161576213
But they werent trying to just 'fit in' pointlessly. The previous monkeys communicated to them what happens if anyone ascends the ladder. Do people not think monkeys can communicate relatively complex reasoning like history?
>>
>>161576170
No. All factions play the same (build HQ, build workers, build barracks/demon pit/war tree). The undead are the fancier of the lot, since they just spam skeleton and upgrade them. All the others nations are extremely similar, to compensate for them being varied.
Ressources are finite, and limited to the various mines you find. Some factions (like the elves) can create older wisps that generate crystal, but other than, nothing but mines.
You can either convert mines with your hero or your general, and get ressources at a VERY slow rate, or destroy them for 100 ressources (more or less). They get rebuilt later, but lose some ressources in the process. You can send workers in the mine, to a maximum of 8 per mines (dwarves counts for 2, so you only need 4 of them), but they're lost if the mine is destroyed, hence why a demonist/necromancer hero is interesting, as he can summon zombies/imps. A demonist can even summon a portal and get two imps for one summon.
>>
>>161576389
The idea is that it doesn't actually matter whether or not it was communicated. The first five monkeys beat everyone that comes close to the ladder. Gradually, each of the replacement monkeys learns that, for WHATEVER REASON, you can't go near the ladder. Let's just say 'reason X'.
Now imagine that a sixth monkey manages to climb the ladder...and nothing happens. There's a very good chance that he might be beaten regardless, because the original reason no longer matters - all that does matter is that their 'culture' involves not climbing the ladder. Is this reasonable? It actually is even if they're not being sprayed with water.
Now, with five monkeys, the problem is that it's fairly easy for one example to break apart the culture, with or without communication. What about ten thousand monkeys? Won't be so easy. If anything, the monkeys might try to rationalize why they were stopping themselves, because that's their way of life.
>>
>>161576726
No it wasnt FOR WHATEVER REASON. The previous monkeys were informing the new monkeys each time about exactly what happens when you touch it. It doesnt matter if all the new monkeys never saw the incident unfold. They have extensive historical evidence that it happened.

>Do new mines spawn when there are no left?
Not that I know of, I never ran out. But there are theorically enough ressources to last the entire game. It's not Command and Conquer or Starcraft where you run out of ressources. More than the amount of ressources left, it's a bit like Supreme Commander, you just want to get them more quickly.
>So I can basically zerg rush the enemy Hero?
Given how retarded the AI is, you can. If you attack it, it'll try to run away, but it'll walk out immediately after. Also, play without the fog of war. The AI doesn't have it and knows exactly where the neutral monsters are, where the mines are, also, you start the skirmish with two towers that can easily kill your hero.

Because in case you don't know it, heroes are consistent in that game, and WB3's biggest improvement is that your hero can now level on the field instead of having to wait for the game to end.
>>
>>161577017
And I'm telling you that it literally doesn't matter whether or not they know why or if they have the right reason. It has at that point become irrelevant to the idea that they have developed a 'culture' where certain things are taboo.
The second five monkeys know by hearsay of the original first hand witnesses. If we do it again, they know by hearsay of hearsay, and so on and so forth. By the tenth time, is it even 'water' being sprayed at them anymore? Was the water hot or cold? Did you have to try grabbing the banana or just climbing the stairs at all?

>Do dead Heroes perma die or only till the end of the match?
Depends. You have an ironman mode when you create your hero. It's something like +200% EXP but if he dies in the game, he's dead forever.

Also, morale plays an important role, so if you pick an "evil" hero (undead, demon, dark elf, social justice warrior) but pick a "good" nation in a skirmish (high elves, wood elves, humans, dwarves, Anonymous), your troops will have combat maluses. Which means shitty combat rolls.

It is not no matter how much you personally think it is. Your personal opinion is not fact, /4xg/ has accepted refugee strategy games before. /4xg/ has accepted refugee strategy games literally last thread. /4xg/ will therefore continue to accept refugee strategy games. If you dislike that, you may either ignore them, hide them, or remove yourself from this thread, as it does not exist to cater to your person.

>Sometimes people post about eu4 here because gsg is too spooky for them, doesn't mean that they should be here rather than in gsg
That's because /gsg/ isn't refugee, there's an entire general for it that doesn't even shitpost anymore. Furthermore, people post about CK2 or EU4 in fucking /twg/ or /mbg/ at times. They're interconnected games and you can't stop spillover.

I find a defining feature of 4X games is that warfare is tedious and extremely unfun, where as in RTS games it's generally the most engaging aspect. Comes from a lot of them imitating Civ games by being turn based and units having extremely limited move points and everything taking several turns to complete.

So you'd think Stellaris might be more RTS than 4X since on the surface it's real-time and not turn based and also emphasizes combat, yet it's horribly bogged down by being a Paradox came with a super retarded combat system that's almost less fun than Civ-likes.

Which is kind of funny personally speaking because the defining characteristic of a 'strategy' as opposed to a 'tactic' is that strategies are meant to win wars while tactics, battles, so if anything a strategy game should make the actual battle part less of a big deal.
>>
>>161583040

>>
>>161582681

>>161583025
>It's real time + unit micro
Then I guess all the squad-based games like Dawn of War or Rise of Nations/Legends aren't RTSs.
>>
>>161583526
>You can't do anything in these
That doesn't matter, the whole point of GRAND strategy games is that the individual battles and stuff like that are actually beneath your control. The part that makes the combat engaging is what happens BEFORE the combat begins. Did you let your opponent dictate the battleground? Did you force your opponent to attack or defend on disadvantegeous terrain? Do you have reinforcements ready nearby, or are you able to stop the enemy from reinforcing that critical battle? Can you get behind the river before the enmy begins his attack? Did you assign your generals correctly? How many more men do you have able to reinforce your military? How much is it costing you to upkeep and resupply / reinforce that military?
The mere addition of morale and terrain to the formula makes a huge difference, not to mention flanking, the effects of artillery, etc.
In CK2 you have everything up to artillery there as well, plus the personal tactics of commanders and the army composition, which does a rock-paper-scissors gimmick better than Stellaris ever did.

Reading up on trade routes.

Has anyone trade to make 1 city specifically for sending trade routes too?

I was thinking that you could sacrifice a city for that purpose, and then just fill it up completely with districts to increase the trade route yield.

Unique District to get away from the pop limit.

Germany or Russia.

Not Greece because of the hill requirement.
Not Brazil because no inherent yield of the district.

So Russia for food trade routes and germany for production trade routes.

It's relatively cheap to recruit spies, especially at first, but their upkeep can get pretty pricey if you're running a lot of them.

Leaders I'm on the fence about. I don't understand if they're working properly 90% of the time. Like a planetary governor that has +10% XP gain for leaders and spies. Cool. So is he giving that to everyone in my whole empire once I set his ass on a planet? What about a fleet admiral with +5%BC? Fleets don't have anything to do with your economy other than upkeep. Is he increasing my global income just by sitting on the bridge of a ship and jerking off? No idea. I appreciate that they're there though.

Minor races seem cool but I haven't found any I want to interact with. The only one within decent colonizing range is the only not-garbage planet in the system, so I could colonize a hellworld for +3 research provided by the peaceful minor race or I could exterminate them and take their giant abundant terra world.

The 4x genre is literally just the civlike genre. Civilization started it, and whether or not something is a 4x basically comes down to how much it resembles Civilization. Age of Empires II, C&C, and EU4 with random map include the 4xs but are decidedly not 4x.

I remember hearing awhile back that Civ VI was going to be updated to be more modder-friendly. Has this happened/was it ever going to happen? I want to try my hand at modding.

BUT if WiH occurs, hopefully they'll bomb eachother to hell, softening them up considerably.

>have all four X's
>is not a 4X.

So that means I like both 4X games and other games that include all of the four X's.

I love Distant Worlds, Endless Legend, Stellaris, Endless Space, SMAC, SoaSE, Civ IV, Civ V and to some extent Star Ruler 2 and sees them all as 4X games with some twists here and there.

Galactic Civ, Endless games and SMAC is some of the few I think of as "Civ like" games and is also 4X. The other I mentioned are 4X, but not always "Civ like".

People have to learn that the 4X genre is evolving all the time as long as it contains all of the 4 X's to a certain extent. "Civ like" is also an evolving term, but it's more set in stone than what 4X means.

SoaSE is a 4X RTS hybrid where some of the X's are just over the threshold to be counted as one of the X's.

Not him, but currently I'm in the same situation, WiH started as I tried to stay neutral. That didn't work, since my empire is just adjacent to one of the AE. Now there is some weird war with the AEs (and their dominions) fighting each other, plus one AE (wihtout it's dominions) fighting me.

>Also says the one who plays an open world exploration-based role playing game for its combat, as if he's used to console trash and cannot possibly understand what the roleplaying part of RPG means besides attacking things.
Why the fuck are you using RPG in context of Skyrim? "Roleplaying" (in an RPG, no less) should be supported by the game mechanically. Your pretend waifufaggotry is not a roleplaying, at least not enough to call Skyrim (a console hack-slash) an RPG.

>By your definition, D&D is not a Roleplaying game because there's no real "mechanical" support for it.
Are you retarded? There is literally mechanic support for it, there are tomes upon tomes of explaining mechanics and there are rules for every little thing. It's quote ironic (or moronic) you bring up D&D in defense of a shitty hack-n-slash grindan.

You are missing the part where I called Skyrim a console trash. You can't have a good party-based real-time first-person combat on a console. Even your aforementioned examples are just hacks upon shitty console controls. They won't suddenly make you feel like you are playing as a powerful archmage, they will just automate fireball casting. And everything that's more complex that a fireball is inadvertently useless in party-based real-time first-person combat environment of Skyrim.

>I don't give a fuck if you like civ4 or not,
Which is irrelevant. Someone posted Civ VI. I said play a good game, implying that he isn't playing a good game, i.e. Civ VI isn't a good game.
>I just deducted
In other news, I deducted you drink nigger semen on a daily basis because my dick itches. I'm not defending skyrim to the death but you haven't pointed out even one actual problem with Skyrim's magic system, of which many exist. Want an actual example? Long-term spells cast in rapid sequence can and will crash your game because Skyrim is an unstable buggy mess.
>liking civ4 and liking civ6 are not counter-exclusive
It's an ESL huh. The term is mutually exclusive, and this isn't even relevant.
>It's quote ironic (or moronic)
>can't even spell
Go to sleep.
>Are you retarded? There is literally mechanic support for it
In Dungeons & Dragons, roleplaying comes down to roleplaying between characters, not to the shitty rulebooks. There's no rule for me charming the barmaid by gliding over on angel wings and winking three times then delivering an edgy Sephiroth speech because I know she likes special snowflake edgelords from a previous conversation. If you roleplay by rigidly following rulebooks and waiting on mechanical support instead of having your GM flexibly move around rules and goals based on your roleplaying, you need a better group.
>they will just automate fireball casting
Give me a single example of a game that has good magic control because I'm actually interested now.
>And everything that's more complex that a fireball is inadvertently useless in party-based real-time first-person combat environment of Skyrim.
wail of the banshee, slick, greater teleportation, dimension-dooring, lightning step, triple image, swapping locations with the target, stopping time outright, changing the weather and making lightning strikes fall from the sky that actually hurt the enemy, and transmuting enemies to gold, etc. are all possible.

Very few YTers have played the game well enough to really be able to explain it well - and those that did take the time and did decent explanations did videos back when the game was still in Early Access and was unfinished.

Failing that, the most recent decent run on YT for SR2 was done by Tom Chick of QT3.

Sins of the Prophets is pretty good for role-playing as either the UNSC or the Covenant, if you're a fan of that setting. There's a Star Wars mod that makes the different ship designs actually different ships, which is also cool.
Mods to add more events are generally worthwhile, as are some that add more technologies. Prepare for Ground Assault adds variety to armies and planetary militaries, though it hasn't been updated in a while.

Because of this Gandhi loves Nukes meme later games had him intentionally programmed to be a nuke obsessed psycho.

Oh. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, anon but the studio is closed down. Has been since July-ish. We all went our separate ways. Seeing as even though I'm a OMA-type dev my code-fu isn't as strong as it'd need to be to deepmod the game, I don't think I can do much more than little things like updating the portraits and whatnot in my freetime.

Expansion didn't sell well and Atlas collectively shrugged about the game's existence, so my boss shut the studio down. I worked for Playful Corporation by contract, updating Creativerse's UI, and that's just elapsed. So I'm jobless and studioless right now.

Though I'd love to work on the game more -- keeping a roof over my head is presently my highest priority. So my focus is on either getting rehired or putting out some of my old independent games out on Steam to help me take the time to get better at art, code, or something enough to get hired again. If anyone updates the game beyond now, it won't be me sadly. Even the portrait remastering is just going to be a Workshop mod.

It's alright. There just turns out to not be much of a market for our type of game. At least, not without a lot more bells, whistles, and a ton more documentation and art-polish. Stuff beyond the devteam of 2 +1 and a minimal budget.

I had hope for it - but folks were much more excited about the new MoO and GalCiv (and Stellaris, and DW, etc) and kept thinking we were Star Drive 2. It is what it is. At very least we got to make a game that took bold steps in new directions - that's a pretty rare thing in the 4X genre even now in this absolute glut of 4X game launches. I hope the diplomacy mechanic catches on but it looks like other developers see the wreck of SR2 and feel it's a bad thing to use since it killed our studio. That and it's "not how MoO/Civ/Paradox does it so nobody wants it ".

It's at very least more fun than playing 'find the magic number that makes the AI bankrupt themselves while giving you all their stuff; in my opinion, anyway.
>>
>>161689301

Simply put, it's shit.
The AI is rigged to hate your guts, the barbarians are here to artificially slow the game down by making you build units, there's some cost inflation that slows the game even more, many bugs that are still not fucking, horrible quotes that will make you want to build a nuclear bomb, and an unstable multiplayer that crashes constantly.
>>
>>161689556
StarDrive came out of nowhere for us. Just to put it in perspective: In the time it took to get SR2 ready for Early Access, SD1 came out and was dropped and SD2 launched weeks before SR2 went into EA on Steam. They have a very similar name and people mistake SR2 for SD2 all the time when talking about the games despite them playing and looking nothing alike.

We were over-enthusiastic in hindsight perhaps, yeah, but that was partly spurred on by folks constantly hitting on 'why doesn't anyone make a 4X game that's not MoO'. We went and made it but I guess most of those complaints weren't really 'I want something not MoO' but were more 'I want the same thing as MoO, but different'.

That said, if we didn't innovate as much as we did I'm not sure we'd have made as many sales as we did to begin with. Our strength was in new gameplay - we would've been even more lost in the noise if we just decided to make a polished standard 4X game.

>>161689627
It's proving tough so far. Some of the responses (summarized) I've gotten back so far to my applying to other studios:
>We're not looking to make a 4X game right now, so we don't need a 4X developer.
>No AAA experience = no employment.
>Sorry, you don't fit our company culture.
>Sorry, hiring freeze until New Year's.

That's disregarding a lot of the total silence on my other applications. Without connections or being attached to an indie darling project, it's rough. Especially for a generalist like me who can fill in a lot of gaps, but who can't compete with say the concept artists at Blizzard or Gearbox.

The problem being that what you're using as an example is the inverse. "I want a new Thief" -> Thief 4 -> "That's not Thief" is actually people being honest with their feelings.

We were also hoping to also get the folks who're big into Sins of a Solar Empire and wanted a 4X game they could jump ship onto. In trying to please both markets I think we over-extended a little and made a game for a crowd that didn't exist yet.

It's a hard game to market to begin with in that regard - and it didn't help that all the press that was happy to cover Star Ruler suddenly didn't care about Star Ruler 2. And the markets beyond those we were hoping for also got occupied too (suddenly, a new Gal Civ and a new space Paradox game and also DW:U finally came out on Steam for a realistic price, a SpaceCiv 4X (except it wasn't), and-and and...).
>>
>>161691797
Bad time, bad customers, too many rivals. A shame.

And that's strange, given how many space games I have in my library.
Sins of Solar Empires, Polaris Sector, Distant Worlds, Galactic Civilizations II, Star Ruler, Star Ruler 2. It's like everyone decided to make a space game at the same time.
And yet I never played Master of Orion.

According to some people, it's because the AI is being 'strategic' and 'trying to win', in which case she's certainly doing that since you can't attack her without breaking alliance and declaring war in rapid succession, which will almost certainly lead to dogpile war.
>>
>>161693805

Just speaking from my experience during my quarter century on this Earth, I can't say I've ever really noticed a change one way or the other in space related media during that time period. It's always been fairly popular.

The only thing on that list that holds true is all the private attempts at reaching Mars and most if not all of those are going to fizzle. In general, space exploration has been on the decrease left and right in recent years. The space shuttle is gone, it's replacement has been slashed and delayed repeatedly, the plan to sebd Americans back to the moon was cancelled. And meanwhile China is more interested in building islands in the Pacific than going to space and Best Korea can't even get a rocket into low orbit so it's not like the USA and Russia are going to be spooked into reinvesting in space anytime soon.

I have some strange hate/interest relation to them.
>>
>>161718330

Few things to bitch about though. Some tech choices are really goddamn obvious. For example, when I researched genetic manipulation or whatever the fuck it's called, you can choose either +100% XP gain for spies or +1 research for all scientist pops. I went spies since I'm going all-in on shenanigans, but the research bonus is significantly better and more meaningful. Spies cap out at level 5, so while your dudes will level quicker it's not like you'll be markedly better at it than someone who didn't take it, while tech is always hugely important.

Having to make single use population transports is still ass. They improved the espionage system and made it marginally less fiddly so hopefully they'll let you just shuffle dudes around and abstract them moving via civilian/trade frigates. It makes colonizing a fuck-planet with poor minerals somewhat less appealing, though it's still good for research.

>>161718458

If they've got the latest update then definitely unless you thought it was complete trash. I thought it was competent but not really worth playing over any other 4X before this, after this it might be upper-middle tier.

They've even got a half-assed turn based mode now I believe. It just auto-pasuses every few seconds, but A: I didn't really miss losing the turn based battles, and B: All my combat has been extremely one-sided so it's not like I've had any situations where I wanted to micromanage shit. Closest I came was knocking out the guardian and taking Orion and that was mostly just eating the casualties until my fleet closed on him.

Banished is definitely more comfy, it's basically the catchphrase of the game. The little cottages in the forest and people farming as opposed to giant industrial and factory districts? Yeah, the former.

I really, REALLY need help about Command and Conquer games. Please help me.
>>
>>161726587
how about stating your issue you dip
>>
>>161726759
It's fucking everything.

My strategy in RTS (or games in general) is to turtle and then blow the enemy up with elite units and a massive army.
In Command and Conquer games, defenses are extremely fragile, and every time I try to attack, the AI counters me perfect and I lose all my army, no matter the game.
>tries tank
>they get shot down by bombers and helicopters
>send planes
>they get shot down by anti-air infantry
>send infantry
>tanks just run over them
>send a versatile army that can supposely take down everything
>ends up levelled by a shitload of enemies tanks
>runs out of ressources
>dies
I'm just not getting the hang of it.
>>
>>161685895
literally any civ will declare war on you if their military strength is significantly higher than you. it's supposed to force you to use hammers to build up an army but instead people abuse it to get wars started against them so they can pillage/cap without warmonger penalties until the civ is dead.
>>
>>161726967
was C&C are you playing?

send more than one type of attack? have AA support with ground forces. Enemy has little air defence/rocket launcher infantry? Send bombers and choppers.

Do you select the entire army or something and choose to attack one target? Use ctrl+1-9 groups and use your troops effectively, target what they are good against and keep them away from enemy units that they will get rekt from.
>>
>>161726967
>My strategy in RTS (or games in general) is to turtle and then blow the enemy up with elite units and a massive army
Bad idea. Manage your economy properly.
>>
>>161726967
I´m guessing you are playing Generals/Zero Hour so here is what you do:
You either counterspam tanks (preferably chinese battlemasters or overlords) or spam superweapons
or you could play a mod like Shockwave
>>
>>161727337
>was C&C are you playing?
I tried Generals, Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3.

I fare a little better in Generals because there are buildings to get money, and I fare very poorly in Red Alert 3 because holy shit I hate these mecha tengus and fuck infantry is so powerful and yet so much at the same time.
I'm pretty bad at multitasking to be honest, even in Battle Realms where you only have fighters on group one and healers on group 2, I don't fare well.

Endless Legend is a great game in many aspects.
>Good looks.
>Great lore.
>Factions are all incredibly unique in their own ways.
>Quests often provide great bonuses and early exploration is rewarded heavily.
>10/10 Ambient soundtrack
>Most DLC's are actually worthwhile content packs that provide fresh factions, items, and even mechanics.
>Home to the best fantasy characters ever made.
It's biggest flaw is hands down the combat system as it takes forever to finish battles manually and since units will always take the shortest route to their destination they sometimes end up placing themselves in retarded positions.
Other than that though I have no complaints.

>>

Or how about you make the maximum number of units allowed on a tile related to the tile itself.

Is it a mountain? 1 unit, unless it's air in which case 4 maybe.

Is it a plains? 14 units.

Et cetera. You could even randomize it somewhat. Natural bottlenecks caused by terrain is what nations were traditionally built around anyway, beyond access to water and resources.

It's just a dumb kneejerk reaction -- if it's being portrayed in cards it can't be good.

Okay, so I FINALLY won a bit in Red Alert 3, because the AI doesn't immediately build an anti-infantry vehicle so it's vulnerable to conscript rush, but damn.
First, the infantry has such an insane DPS in these game.
Second, it dies so quickly. A turret with a peacekeeper garrisoned inside killed 75% of my army.
Third, I really like the flak guy, they're so powerful.
Fourth, the conscript are so innocent they're cute, but I suspect they're also pretty stupid. Pic related.

I admit that sending fifty conscripts armed with not-AK-47 and filling the screen with bullets is really fun. The bears are also pretty powerful with that scream, even if the UI is a bit retarded and use ALL of their screams at once.
I'll try the terror drone next, I like the name.

There's DLC with new races: Elerians, Gnolam, Trilarians

Independent from the DLC there's new periodic event: Antarans raid the most developed empire and disappear. Apparently it's possible to get back at them but it requires surveying asteroid ruins scattered across the galaxy.
There was revamp of spy system, instead of assigning them to planet, you train them into empirewide roster and from there can send them on mission. You can also capture enemy spies and ransom them away.
Pollution works differently, too, gets really annoying at developed worlds.

Oh and you can set up how many ships you want to produce at once, by the same token things like "frigate x 5" disappeared.

>>161777840
>Have more ships than the enemy
>Have bigger ships than the enemy
>Make sure you also have smaller ships as well though, Corvettes should make up like half your fleet.
>Make sure your ships have better guns than the enemy
>The best guns are Kenetic artillery, and medium sized plasma cannons.
>Torpedoes and Strike craft are also good, but can be hard countered, so make sure you have plenty of Kinetic artillery and medium plasma.
>Don't forget armor and shields, and reactors to power them.
>Spinal mount weapons were sub-optimal last I checked, but I think they may have been buffed.
>>
>>161779809
Well, I remember Yuri's grinder having really unpleasant implications.
But as far as descriptions go, I really like Starcraft.
>"marines have a top-notch armor that is made out of nintendium, can resist a lot of stuff and allow them to survive in every environnement"
>marines have 40 HP
>civilians have 40 HP
>the different weapons in Starcraft are so insanely powerful that having a super kick-ass power armour doesn't do a thing
>>
>>161780078
>implications.
He literally brainwashes civilians and sends them to Grinder to boost his economy in several missions. I guess you are so dense you need a close-up of guro to confirm that Grinder in fact kills people.
>>
>>161722040
Banished can get old really quickly. Skylines has more lasting power if building and tweaking growing city layouts to fix traffic issues is your jam.
>>
>>161780485
Jeez, calm down, no need to get triggered.
In Battle for Middle Earth 2, you can sacrifice your units in the fortress to get money, but it's described as dismissing them. You don't always have to assume they're executed and turned into food, body parts or whatever.
>>
>>161782336
>You don't always have to assume they're executed and turned into food, body parts or whatever.
>4 fucking massive clubs smash the center the moment someone enters the Grinder
>civilians also scream after said smashing
>goys let's not assume things
Let me guess, you've voted for Shillary?

Ayyyyy lmao.

Game's in the bag at this point anyway, just killing all the other races. Used tech stealing to slingshot ahead of the psilons and take Orion for those super techs and then used espionage to keep everyone crippled and at 50% research rate forever. I'm just having fun bullying the mrrshan because there are unique voices if a race is scared of you and she does this nice quavery voice when I tell her to give me all her shit and she does.

>have 2 cities trading with another city in between

In Stellaris whats the best way to colonize planets outside my hydrosphere? Terraforming or genetic manipulation? Enslavement?
>>
>>161787027
>>161787243
Game?
>>
>>161793064
I haven't played stellaris in a while, but I think the most efficient method is finding a pre space-age race that can go on other planets and using them through takeover/enlightenment/enslavement or something along those lines.
>>
>>161793574
Probably new MoO
>>
>>161793064
capture a planet with species that have whatever terrain preference you need. Use them to colonize those types of worlds. Quicker than terraforming and you don't waste a gene mod on planet preference

Civ games are always released incomplete, only after 2 expansions they are actual games. We don't really hate Civ 6 as a whole, we hate the fact that it's released with half the content missing.

I just never finish science games.

There's no point. You know you've won and you just have to wait out 60 turns.

The only time I've ever lost was to an immortal Kongo because he's the culture king.
>>
>>161800685
For a moment I though you were actually talking about Stellaris.

I guess science really is OP.
>>
>>161800682
that pic tells me exactly fuck all. Where is your empire? Also you can only colonize 1 planet there so it might not be worth it unless you get some desert preference niggers
>>
>>161774239
Feed them into the grinder and make a new one.

Which is a valid strategy for Yuri. Mind-control enemy units, feed them to the Grinder, rinse repeat.

I just shoved my dick deep in his mouth and he thanked me.
>>
>>161801654
meh, I'd put an outpost at iblyria maybe until you can colonize that 23 tile planet. The rest of the planets in that system aren't that good being less than 20. Agree going west be much better for you. If hadar have desert preference then I'd consider going to war with them and taking them over unless they are allied out the ass
>>
>>161801928
they dont have any allies, i think they actually self-teched into space within the last five years

i was thinking of subjugating them and making them colonize that shit as imperial subjects but i read thats not a good idea if their ethics are too different from mine because then they'll revolt or something
>>
>>161802207
Yeah definitely higher chance they will revolt. Uprising of subjects are easy to deal with just a pain in the ass to do.
>>
>>161802280
is it just ethos that make them separatists though?

because if i do imperialize them i'd be imperializing pacifistic space bug bureaucrats

they share my xenophilia but clash with my individualism so maybe its a wash
>>
>>161802382
ethos plays a big part but also all your policy choices; slavery allowed? purging? xeno leaders, migration, etc. Also whether you actually enslave them of course, you can try change their ethos but it can be pretty difficult early on without the right buildings and the mind control module in the spaceport.

Reminder that Civ 4 is the best.

http://www.sullla.com/Civ5/bnwreview.html

>All of the things that I've been criticizing for long paragraphs here in this review - the freebies handed out constantly, the endless filler stuff that looks important but isn't, the One Unit Per Tile combat that makes anyone look like a tactical genius, the simplified happiness system, the passive and reactive style of gameplay - the exact things that irritate many veterans of the Civilization series are the same things that make many newcomers love Civ5.

>The gameplay in Civ5 has been deliberately set up to appeal to this sort of less experienced player. When I watch my non-gaming friends play one of the Civilization games, most of the time they're just sitting around hitting next turn. "Do something!" I think in my head. Build more cities and units, come up with a plan, something, anything. But no, they're just having fun experiencing the ambiance of the game, they don't have any particular goals or strategy in mind. Civ5's passive style of gameplay is a perfect fit for this sort of player. You can sit back and keep hitting next turn without doing much of anything; eventually, the game will keep popping up to give you free rewards, and tell you how awesome you are for playing the game. Remember, Civ5 is a game where stuff largely happens to you, not the other way around. It's the exact opposite of a game like Civ4, where if you don't MAKE things happen, nothing WILL happen. That's boring to newcomers!

http://www.sullla.com/Civ6/oneweeklater.html

>So far, Civ 6 is about exactly what I expected. There is some good stuff here, but the dumbing down trend for casual audiences has not been reversed. What's frustrating is how the series seemingly takes one step forward and two steps back.

In Generals, you could garrison them in the barracks and they came out 2 seconds later, fully healed.
