I just think that Halo 3 would have been a great end for good old' chief. He saved the galaxy, finished the war, and got back into a cryopod.

I always took the legendary ending not as sequel-bait but as "Chief and Cortana won't just drift in space forever and die, they will go on more adventures together. But their story is finished."

Now I'm not against chief being brought back, because of course that was just my interpretation. If they delve more into him and Blue team, that would be fantastic. I just think each passing game with all these Galaxy-spanning consequences and it's all up to chief to save everything each time is ridiculous.

It's a mixed bag all around

It's going to take you for fucking ever to scour the landscape if you're going for %100. Combat is basic as well: basically Arkham Asylum with a backup shotgun.

Vehicle combat is pretty great but it's also a mixed bag. Once you upgrade to any decent capacity you can take out most anything fairly easily. The convoy fights are definitely the most fun but I don't think you can retrigger them when you finish, so you end up backing out before you actually win so you can keep coming back.

Halo should always be about master chief. He is the "skin" for the player in the universe. It's been that way since CE released and it needs to stay that way. Switching to other characters is retarded. Solo is also preferable, shitty AI companions just break immersion and get in the way.

They also need to keep the story there, but only very faintly, just enough to give reasons to visit seperate locations and enemies. None of this retarded extended universe non-canon book garbage.

Yup these, the moment Master Chief is removed from Halo for good, and the sells which already dropped because of the leak that Master Chief only having 3 missions 2 weeks before Halo 5 released would kill the franchise. If 343 wants to focus on other characters, they need to keep that in spin off games, novels, comics, and tv series. The main series needs to stick with Chief and only Chief. I feel that /hg/ seems to underestimate how many fans play Halo for the Chief. Most of the fanbase and journalist alike hated the fact that Chief got sidelined in 5. any future mainline Halo game can't afford to shaft him or risk Halo selling under. I believe Microsoft will ensure 343 that future mainline titles will be a Chief only experience since that's what most of the fanbase (including myself) wants.

Not him but with 2 Arbiter's missions were terrible compared to Chief and gave him a bad reputation did not heal until Halo 3, ODST none of the characters except Buck were interesting and Rookies campaign was boring until Dare finally called. Reach was utter garbage, storyline was bare bones until Cortana was shoehorned in for no apparent reason, you can careless about Noble Team except Jorge who dies way too soon and the game never gets interesting not even once. Locke and Osiris in Halo 5 were crap, they felt like filler just trying to catch up to Chief's story and Buck really didn't need to be in the game to begin with.

As someone who's been to to other websites aong with /v/, talk to other Halo fans not on the internet says other wise. The Halo fanbase is big and /hg/ is the minority, most of the Halo fans do not want to play another mainline Halo game with Chief getting the spotlight taken away from him. Back on Halo 2 only the first few missions were good the rest of the campaign was mediocre at best mixed in with a terrible ending to boot. the crappy boss fights and scripted set pieces didn't help. It doesn't matter how good the story is, if the gameplay, level design, mission structure, and immersion is terrible guess what, your game is terrible. Halo 2 would be as forgotten as Metroid 2 Return of Samus if it wasn't for its multiplayer.

I've talked to non-internet Halo fans too and they think Armor Abilities and ADS and whatnot are some of the best things to ever happen to Halo.

Even if Halo 2 weren't all great, it'd still blow Halo 3 out of the water. Halo 3's campaign was all-around poor, its absolute ease at even the highest difficulties one of the more egregious flaws. It's no fun waltzing through a campaign where everything keels over half a second after you look at it.

Halo 2 had the worst campaign in the original trilogy. All of Arbiter's missions either sucked or was mediocre at best. Most of the boss fights wee utterly terrible. was a heavily scripted mess that rarely gave players full freedom, was very linear especially towards the game's end. Brutes were unfinished uninteresting bullet sponges that brought nothing to the table. A lot of the enemy's coding were somehow worse than Halo CE. Was the shortest campaign in the trilogy minus legendary, all of the levels were split in half to make up for the game being rushed out the door. A mediocre Arbiter mission with a terrible boss fight ends the game. To top it off, the story it was trying to tell (the actual sequel to CE 's story) got shafted to focus on alien politics and religion which just covered up the fact that you were just doing everything you already did in CE but as an alien.

While Halo 3 open the levels back up like CE, immerse the player in it's gameplay, had better designed missions with the best vehicle combat in the series. Added brilliant encounters while giving the enemies characters during gameplay. Made Brute somewhat fun to fight (still not as good as Elites), Scarabe battles which made incredible use of the Halo sandbox, didn't have monster closets that kept throwing out endless enemies, was a Master Chief only experience. Last but not least had an ending that could either end the series or set it self up for new adventures to come with an actual good final mission. Yeah Halo 3's campaign shitted all over Halo 2's except in story. Halo 3's campaign returned the series back to CE'S roots after Halo 2 crapped all over it.
