Anon, unless you live in Canada or somewhere, I suggest you double-check that. Unless more ATF fuckery has occurred (which is possible), then it's still considered a "machine gun" because it fires more than one round with one pull of the trigger AFAIK.
>>
>>160695186
There was a specific technicality dealing with the Mini-14 staple trick and solely to that configuration of an induced malfunction that enabled it to be technically legal to do, and it was an open secret for a while. If that's changed recently due to legislation then oh well.

his games are rather expressive, there's a lot you can do. in kohctypop, spacechem, infinifactory any conceivable puzzle is solvable given infinite space (and if all output blocks/elements are available one way or another, which is trivial to prove).
all of those are turing-complete as well.

Has anyone ever made a hovercraft that's really effective in any gravity? Like, the idea I had is that it'd use hydrogen thrusters rather than ion or atmospheric. You'd have two sets of 'hover thrusters', one set that's always burning, but just weak enough so that the gravity is still pulling it downwards. The other set would pulse on and off to ensure you stay at the desired altitude.

Of course, there's really no reason to not just use aircraft, though I was figuring it'd have something to do with staying under the radar or allow for a bit more armor. After all, if you don't have to worry about thruster clearance on top at all, and with reduced clearance on the sides, and you really don't have to worry about armor on the bottom, you can focus on specializing it for combat.

Or it'd just look absolutely bitchin'. Get one with a fixed forward cannon so you can go tank hunting.

Speaking of land vehicles, did anyone make anything resembling Kapisi or any of those Coalition cruisers yet?
>>
>>160700572
I've tried both, but they definitely have their drawbacks. If you build subsystems first, like your picture, you're gonna end up with a brick. No offense, of course.

If you focus on appearance first, you're probably gonna run out of interior space, like >>160707205 says.

Personally I try to think of the silhouette first, how it looks from one side to another. I have a big thing for modularity, too, and I've tried to build cargo ships with detachable pods in the past.

VS best.

Though I actually wasn't thinking of the Vanu when I was writing it, I had played a game of Battlefield 4 on one of those Final Stand maps with the hovertanks, they follow the same basic premise. It can angle up and down, but it can't turn at all.

Obviously it has disadvantages, but there are some big perks you get with the bonus to maneuverability. Though, what I had in mind was less 'penis gun' and more an offset cockpit with a gun opposite it. A penis gun would likely work better, though, as the recoil is in line with the forward thrust.

I think you're referring to Blacklight, the idea was that you had different receivers of varying types, and depending on the barrels, stocks, grips or ammunition had different effects. The same receiver could be used for a close range bullet hose carbine or a long range marksman's rifle, usually.

And yeah, sorta like that but probably on a smaller scale. I figure that if you're going with a fixed forward gun, you're either going to:
>Sacrifice armor to get the biggest gun on the smallest frame you can, closer to a self propelled gun
>Have no other option, the weapon is too big to fit on anything smaller and still keep its effect
The latter is along the lines of the Gaalsien railgun cruiser that >>160713309 posted. It's a giant fuckoff railgun with antigravity propulsion built around it. I'd adore to build one in Spengies or FTD, if only they both had decent land combat.

Speaking of which, I haven't looked at FTD in almost a year, what's happened lately? Any news on land combat? I want my Kapisi with hovertanks and shit.

There was loadout, not sure how it's looking now but I got into the alpha back when, they had a lot of variety in accuracy, projectile type, damage variant, RoF and such. There was also guncraft and I think Ace of Spades were you could voxel guns. Guncraft required the gun to be voted on the workshop before you could use it though I think. The notable feature of all these games is that they're ded and/or dildos
>>
>>160714235
Obviously not right now, I was thinking if someone ever made a FTD style mod for custom weapons. As it stands, FTD has no real land combat (and I absolutely SUCK at flyers, holy hell I can't build something to stay in the air at all.) I'm just not a fan with how the weapons are handled in Spengies, you can't build a specific gun for a specific job/craft, and the vanilla guns are terrible.

If artificial gravity was still usable on blanets (maybe with increased power draw or something) that would be bretty cool, fuckhueg tonks with gravity cannons that can rip bases in half. speedcap mod would probably necessary though
>tfw shooting a projectile so fast it phases through the first layer of the target and blows out the other side
>>
>>160714634
Speedcap mods are fun, I got one ages ago that upped the limit to ~100,000 m/s or so, I can't remember.
This was back before jump drives, so what I figured was that you'd build space stations with 'jump rings' that're just a crapton of gravity generators, and stick a single artificial gravity block on your ship.
Let's say that you have three generators on a side, per layer, each set to 1 G. Then let's say you have, just to be even, ten layers, with each layer being 5 meters (two blocks, alternating between gravity generators and the base they're attached to.)
So that's 50 meters and approximately 120 G, round it out to an even 1200 m/s^2. You're probably not going to be in there for a full second, but if you took the effort to spread the layers out (say, put them ~20 blocks away from each other for a more even and longer lasting acceleration), you can get some mad acceleration.
Hell, this still might be a cost effective strategy for smaller ships that can't afford a jump drive.

And completely unrelated, do the physics break if you try to make a space elevator?

Disappointing desu, but the idea of mecha-PID briefly inspired me to make pic related.

It uses the tilt of a balloon to drive a pair of brakes through a reducing geartrain. Closer to bang-bang control than PID though.

I'm actually not that sure.

Testing with a pinned balance rig suggests they don't have enough correcting force, plus the brakes have a huge dead zone where the copter is free to wobble about. Bringing the brakes closer risks CLANG. In practice, however, having a balloon on a long stick is really good for stability in itself, so the copter is stable as fuck.

Instead of brakes, I might try using pairs of opposing screws similar to what Algodoo anon was doing. To generate a net thrust, he tilted them so that they faced the same direction.

Fuck yeah, I had a feeling this would work.

It's so much simpler and more effective than the brakes, and it doesn't demand much torque from the balloon so I can actually use a speed-up gear.

I always wonder what people put in those huge sections fore and aft of the guns. I know it's there to look nice, but what's inside there? My ships usually end up being around 50% gun, and if viewed from above it's basically either gun or superstructure. None of this empty deck stuff.

Just gotta work on the engines and weapon systems. Also gotta try to see if I can't make it less volatile because as it stands one good hit completely fucks it up.

>>
>>160749535
Well if you don't need electricity for anything on your vehicle, then yes obviously you'd not even bother attaching the turbines. If you do need electricity though, they generate plenty, far more cost effectively than RTGs. My small engine (with two tiny turbines) produces almost the same amount of power as a large 3x3 RTG, but the 3x3 RTG costs 10k resources to build. Meanwhile the engine costs only 560, and it also provides 9739 hp to drive wheels or propellers or whatever you need. The RTG provides only 115 extra electricity but is 17+ times as expensive.

It's not so much pushing against the ground as it is the massive drag caused by wing panels, webm related. That's 400+ m/s to 0 in like 5 seconds

The small wheels have very little drag, it's why I use them as landing gears instead of normal wooden wheels which refuse to go any faster than about 30 m/s on the ground and are therefore useless on most of my planes which have a much higher takeoff speed.

A large amount of that could be being caused by the friction pads, since they're all separate objects rather than one wheel (so when one grips, the one directly next to it won't and starts to move away).

Play around in the vehicle designer first, make something that works. Then make a better one
Learn to make bote good, or at least functional, so you have something to bring into the campaign
You can also spawn in ships and stuff from enemy factions in the designer. You can learn a lot from taking them apart and studying how they work

is it possible for drones to communicate with each other in spengies?
>>
someone save the animes
>>
>>160798626
Well yes. It's complicated, you have to choose between a series of workarounds. My favorite involves the use of a trick relying on an LCD and undocking. Lookup the Fleet Command Mod, it's a script that works like that. Everything has to start docked to a 'mothership' and after that you can just read and write to the LCD screens to communicate.

If re-merging to anything doesn't undo the effect you could do something akin to a radio crystal in that you have a room full of merge blocks and you just mass produce transponders that you have to manually install on your ships. Even without doing that, you can use it to dispatch and communicate with fleets from a station. With the new camera system you can also finally have them detect and fight stuff on their own.

Other methods involve kludges of other features like beacon names to pass data wirelessly.

The only anons that complain about cannon balance are the ones that can't engineer for shit and think Carl Gustavs are the only way you can make viable cannons.

Or you know, you could just decrease drag on missiles so they go faster instead of this bullshit "I hate flyers" meme that's infecting FtD and only serves to widen the disparity between your average jet fighter/bomber and the sperglord exploit designs.

I really like the artistic style and where it all seems to be heading.

I want to love the game, but they are only just now BEGINNING to make the mechanics deep and autistic enough for me to enjoy, and they are taking way too long.

I guess I will just check in every couple of months or after a year or so.

If they do it right and make things complex enough, I think terratech could become my favorite engineering game.
>>
>>160835963
Not in Infinifactory, since there are several different stats that can be improved separately (footprint, cycles, blocks).
Cycles is technically the one to go for, but energy efficiency (i.e. blocks) is also important in real life.

only issues with this of course is the course has to be marble flat else I think we'll just go into orbit. Fuck me, I'm about to actually try this.

Okay so:

rs = (2 G M) / (c^2)

= M([2 x 6.674]×10^−11) / ([299792458]^2)

= M(13.348×10^−11) / (8.987551787x10^16)

= (10 x 750 shitposts) x (1.485165295 x 10^-26)

= (1 shitpost) x (1.113873971 x 10^-22)

MEANWHILE, on an average 1080p screen of 21.5 inches (0.5461 m x 0.3072 m), a thread of 750 posts including OP would be minimum 63831 pixels that took a fucking while to figure out.

Thread length minimum (at fullscreen) = (63831 x .3072) / 1080

= 18.156373 m

10 threads length (i.e. Schitwald radius) = 181.56373 m

181.56373 = [shitpost mass] x 1.113873971 x 10^-22

Approximate average shitpost mass = 1.630020404 x 10^20 kg

This is incredibly rounded in some areas, but I'm tired and it's for the sole purpose of shitposting about a dead general so fuck you

Also I should add, even if >>160869175 is closer than me, it takes some (literally) damn heavy shitposting to (literally) collapse a general in only 10 threads.

>>
>>160875010
We're going to need to fine tune the constants used in the calculations and study the effects of local environmental minima and maxima in the results, such as the actual average thread length and dynamic bump limits across boards, but the theory is sound. There's no question meme magic is powerful and has real effects, but now we know why, and we can make educated projections about them, and the weight and consequences of a shitpost in any given area and moment. Which means we can control them.

Imagine the doors this opens.
We need additional study before we can allow the hivemind at large to know. /pol/ would surely only do damage if they were to attempt to make use of incomplete theories and calculations.

I don't know what to do about this shit. The missile launchers on legs are annoying, but at least I can kill them if I get close enough. The tanks are just fucking insane.

"Tank," really, because they're all the same store-bought design. The wedge shaped one that's all treads on the bottom and slopes leading up to turrets. So starmade is getting the longed-for NPC factions now, which basically puts it on the track to more content and things to do. If mission boards and such are implemented it will literally reach avorions level of things to do. If they then polish the graphics and movement/combat mechanics, add the sound effects and music they haven't been teasing and finalize the NPC crew mechanics, we're looking at potentially the savior of space voxel games.

But /egg/ still won't play it for more than a week without getting bored.

Okay, according to Discover Magazine the average sex toy size is around 5 inches long and 4.5 inches in circumference (thank you for your contributions to science, Discover).

Average dildo volume = (pi x 0.127) x (0.1143 / 2pi)^2

= (pi x 0.127) x (0.1143 / 2pi)^2

= 0.000132034 m^3

I'm afraid at this point I'll have to assume gravitational fields can have an average strength around non-spherical objects similar to the strength of a sphere made of the same material, since I haven't seen any information on that (and I need a radius to use).

r^3 of a sphere with volume of 0.000132034 m^3
= 0.000132034 / ([4/3] x pi)

= 0.0000315208

r = 0.03158875 m

A neutron star has, according to Wikipedia, a density between 3.7 and 5.9 x 10^17 kg/m^3
To save time I'll use the middle value, 4.3 x 10^17 since I don't know the average neutron star density I'm afraid

Average gravitational field strength of a neutron dildo, gd = (6.674 x 10^-11) x ([4.3 x 10^17] x 0.000132034) / (0.03158875^2)

= 3797307 N/kg

Nearing 4 million m/s^2 is nothing to fuck with.
It would create the clingiest pussy in the universe.

trick question, there is no way of knowing which is heavier because the screenshots could all be screenshots of the same game which isn't as heavy as a bunch of dead games, but if they are all screenshots of different games it's heavier because you can fit more screenshots and therefore more dead games

>>
>>160983703
decent for the first go.
never belt copper wire, just feed it straight into the machines.
Keep in mind that you'll have to expand quite a bit more the further you go.
>>
>>160983785
I've already hit a brick wall with oil refineries, I can't figure an efficient way to use all the byproducts, doesn't help that the nearest oil field is about 50 screens to the south and I just finished my car.
Speaking of cars, I took a trip around my base to look for better spots to mine/get oil and just noticed that after 8 hours of playing I hadn't been attacked by ayylmaos and they are growing huge colonies. The smog will reach them as soon as I either expand my base or find how to make full use of oil. Will I be safe with bunkers of two turrets with two-thick walls?

Fuck using wikis.
>>
>>160984470
>transporting oil
I just use pipes and connect them back to my main base.
>bunkers
Should be okay, as long as you have ammo. What I do is set up a single long belt along the perimeter of my base stocked with ammo from a chest and inserters leading to each turret. You shouldn't need to place turrets more often than the max length of overlap (or half that, if you have a lot of ayys) and you should be good.

AP ammo is much better than regular, invest ASAP.
>>
>>160984470
>Will I be safe with bunkers of two turrets with two-thick walls?

I'd line the wall with turrets and make the wall as thick as you can manage
>>
>>160974771
>>160974357
>this much resources
euugh
>>
>>160984470
Rule 1
Always prepare for expansions. You want your factory to be expandable on demand, because soon you will find that those three copper smelters do fuckall to supply your consumption

Rule 2
Main resource bus is fun thing to have.

Place your initial resource processing far from processing half-products and products, and connect those both parts with massive beltostrade that carries all resources you need, as plates, steel, plastic, then create facilities that will feed into main bus the most needed half-products, as green chips or batteries.

Rule 3
Fuck ayyys. Perimeter wall, overlapping strongpoints, preventive cleansing, whatever. All is fair game here, as long as keeps ayys far from you.
Gun turrents with AP are good if you don't have sufficient electricity generation, but once you can slap entire chunks of solar panel/accumulator combos switch to lazors. They're more cost efficient.
>>

>>
>>160984670
>wall

>>160984597
Thanks for the input. About the oil transportation is not an issue, it's more about using heavy oil/light oil/gas plus all the other byproducts of that (namely sulfur cause I want to get some accumulators online asap). Seems like setting up an oil "factory" will take about twice as much space as I'm using right now and all those logistic issues are giving me a headache, I'll try to sketch up something after some sleep.

>>160986819
>Rules
It seems the scope of the game is far, far bigger than what I was expecting. I should have explored a little more of the campaign after getting the car, but it just seemed so massive and overwhelming.

>>160987017
Pour concrete over ALL the floor, the grass and copper male it look ugly.

Good night engies.
>>
>>160984470
>I can't figure an efficient way to use all the byproducts
To start out with, don't bother.
Research fluid handling immediately after oil, then build fluid storage tanks to store the excess.

Once your oil production is going, you can put work into blue science, which will allow you to research advanced oil refining.
Doing so will allow you to crack heavy oil into light oil and light oil into petroleum gas - and you can start to reduce the storage from before.
By controlling this process with pumps and circuit network, you'll never have to worry about one product clogging your production.
Setting it up is also perfect as babby's first circuit in Factorio. It is straightforward and incredibly useful.

Making an 8 bit register for my adder. I plan to have 3 of them, 2 to store the numbers to be added and 1 to store the output. I figured I'd work on this before converting it to an adder-subtractor because binary subtraction is doing my head in a bit.

If I run into lag problems I'll have to rebuild it as 6 bit or even 4, which will be annoying but still impressive if I manage to pull it off.

I don't really even get the stuttering on blinids as long as I'm going slow enough and the ship I'm flying is simple and small enough. The Raptor is a relatively complex ship with multiple pressurized decks, a good bit of internal detail, and multiple running programs. I think the stutter probably wouldn't even happen if I used something more basic to land.

I was thinking about it some more, and it is kinda is analogue to analogue. It just comes off as digital to analogue since the inputs were the maximum (pressed) and minimum (unpressed). If you pressed the keys some in-between amount then the output on the sphere would be continuous.

I might try make a mockup in Algodoo. Seems like it'd be useful for a multiplexer or something.

Memes are the visual representation of bastardisation of culture if anything. They spread like cancer and choke out any intelligent thought like weeds. Why respond to some query with an actual answer instead of just repeating some asinine, somewhat related drop-in non-answer?
>>
>>161004810
>somewhat related drop-in non-answer
like "O tempora, O mores?"
or "Memento mori?"

They're not always useless, since like sayings or references to old folk tales which are both memes too, actually they often carry more meaning than just [this is a reference to funny thing that happened].

There are quite a few that are just amusing video clips though, which are usually meaningless.

hue, that was my fault then
Shall I just make the next thread now since no screencaps, or wait until we finally hit nobumps?
>>

Then shouldn't there be an intrinsic distinction between the two?
Oh wait, there is.
"Sayings", "adages" and "common sense". Name me one single meme of the internet age that could be useful for anything but a political campaign.

Some fucknut spoke the name of CLANG on youtube videos, reddit and the forums. It became well known after that. The fag on the update videos said it a few times.
>>
>>161006615
Baneposting or Loss, both of which started as examples of how NOT to write scenes, or in Loss' case in particular, how not to try and make a storyline interesting.
>>
>>161007083
You could say that about any meme, you faggot.
Clang is an example of how not to use a physics engine.
Milhouse is not a meme makes an example of how not to force memes.
Vaporwave ridicules the "nightcore" and similar styles of music.
The fact that they may be pointing out some fact doesn't give them any more value, as the absolute majority of all those who use them either do not realize the original purpose or spread is "just because it's funny".
Yes, they are actually useful in a sense, but until they stop being useful (and therefore start getting parroted by every single drooling retard) they have a different name; "an inside joke". An inside joke is a joke among close peers, all of whom understand its connotation and its origin, and can therefore take the lesson learned from it. Memes, on the other hand, lose all meaning the moment they get spread around for the sole purpose of "humor" and not the information encased.
Clang, in particular, was an inside joke until some retard started spamming it all over, and now it's just a 'meme' - a completely useless apparition of social norms, humor and language.

Question, if the memedrive is reality, what kind of efficiency would it need to NOT be able to create perpetual motion?
>>

>Name me one single meme of the internet age that could be useful for anything but a political campaign

...okay

>The fact that they may be pointing out some fact doesn't give them any more value
Yes it does genius, that's the point I was making. Unless something spreads purely for humour value, then it at least initially had value.
This is the same as saying a machine that now isn't efficient compared to modern iterations has never had use, or that someone buying a car because it's used a lot by people who know why it's good is pointless.

Something doesn't become a meme when it loses meaning, it becomes one when people spread it between each other purely through word of mouth.
>>
>>161007856
anything less than 100% ?

It's not perpetual motion they're apparently violating, but conservation of momentum

(as far as I understand)

The thing is that you could theoretically strap it to a alternator via a strut, keep feeding power into it to accelerate it, since the power input (and thus the thrust) is constant (energy consumption is linear) and it's increase in energy is quadratic (Kinetic Energy=0.5mv^2), you can reach a point where it spin fast enough that it can supply more power to the alternator than it uses to keep thrusting
>>
>>161008241

I'm total shit at maths, so I'll take your word for it and let somebody else do the answering. I'm more of a trial-and-error kind of guy.
>>
>>161008000
Why spread something that won't get recognized for its initial meaningful subtext, and instead will be thought of as an attempt to inject artificial humor? If you intend people to derive meaning from it you have to declare so, therefore making mentioning the meme in the first place meaningless.
And I'm not saying something is a meme as a result of losing all meaning, I'm saying that memes lose all meaning once they get spread around because they're memes.

>I was thinking about it some more, and it is kinda is analogue to analogue. It just comes off as digital to analogue since the inputs were the maximum (pressed) and minimum (unpressed).
you can specify a digital line to 5V = 1 and 0V = 0 and then put 3V on it. that doesn't make it analog though. the underlying transmission is always analog (as there are practically infinite states of anything we can produce since there's just a whole lot of atoms), it's the quantisation that makes it digital. In a way, digital wires don't exist, only analog wires that are used for digital signal transmissions.
Charles Babbage's differential engine used gears, and to ensure that a gear is always in a defined position(rather than somewhere inbetween) he had levers that jammed into the gears periodically.
>>
>>161008241
Something about this sounds wrong. If it is possible to get quadratic returns from linear input without expending fuel in the process (ie it powers itself) you've broken one of the laws of thermodynamics and created infinite energy.
>>
>>161008673
Didn't people originally start saying clang here because of the server-wide noises while welding in old spengos? Even before it spread it was used here in reference to the utter lack of stability in spengos, which anyone who plays the game for even a bit would notice. When the xocunt shitter mentioned clang in one of the update videos, it was the same usage
>>
>>161008680
Yeah, in the original video is was quantitised, but there's no reason the output of a whiffletree couldn't have every possible intermediate position if you changed the inputs to be somewhere inbetween "fully pressed" and "unpressed"
>>
>>161009031
Hasn't it been used in relation to other games as well? It could relate to any spastic physics engine in any game without any of its users knowing the origin.
>>
>>161008241
>you can reach a point where it spin fast enough that it can supply more power to the alternator than it uses to keep thrusting
I still don't understand why this would be the case.
Like, I think I can see the setup - a mill with an EM drive turning it - but why would it be able to sustain itself? I mean, it obviously doesn't work with ion thrusters or propellers, or everyone would have been doing it for ages. What's changed?
>>
>>161008673
>Why
Because people are dunces sometimes
It's hard to prevent that

>If you intend people to derive meaning from it you have to declare so
Eh? No you don't, just use it in an appropriate context and the people who can understand will understand (e.g. make a passing reference to Loss.jpg when talking about a different, poorly-executed plot twist that seems to be primarily to cause drama). Like I just said, you can't prevent some people from not understanding, since the point of referential memes is to refer to something they will already know of to convey an idea.

>I'm saying that memes lose all meaning once they get spread around because they're memes
This happens nowadays largely due to the internet, since people are able to here a reference, see people react to it and think 'oh that must be funny, I'll remember that' then associate it with the people who reacted rather than what it originally meant (especially if they have no way of finding what's been referred to).
That said, it can easily happen outside of the internet, but people tend to ask when they're right next to someone who already knows.

In short, people only understand references if they know what's being referred to and why.
Big surprise.

>>161009171
At this point it certainly has, if anything it's a reminder that most modern devs are dildos and need to be gassed
>>
>>161008241
You're using linear equation for rotational motion, ignoring all frictions, ignoring non-ideal efficiency of alternator, memedrive and the cables that connect those, and probably some other issues I am not awake enough to notice.
>>
>>161010773
I'm a psychian and saw Cody's (and Scott) video on it. Too much effort to find out and calculating friction coefficents and know jack shit about alternators other than "spinning goes in, zappy zap goes out"
>>
>>161011004
So you're copying something from someone who's talking shit.

Memedrive on alternator won't create energy for the same reason fan being powered by wind turbine powered by said fan will shut down damn quick. Perpetuum mobile is bullshit and energy loss is cruel mistress
>>
>>161011004
you don't need to calculate. As long as there is friction there will be loss. And that's no the only loss. Why watch dumb youtubers?
