Adding materials should be okay as long as it's in small amounts and you take every single precaution necessary. Don't be adding 99 titanite slabs all in a single drop. I also always make sure the last item i pick up before i quit and go back online is one that i got from the actual game world, and not CE'd.
I've been using it since release, and was just using it last week, and I haven't been hit yet.

It's only terrible because sorcery is terrible.

A pure luck build can grab Anri's SS and the Mangrub staff alongside just enough int and att to use some decent mid-tier spells and end up around the same sl as a quality build. You have a strong, robust pure physical weapon with comparable damage to quality on top of spellcasting options.

The problem is that spellcasting is balanced aroundits absolute maximum damage being necessary to be worthwhile, so any catalyst meant for mid-tier spell damage is worthless as spells won't do any damage. That's just a fuckup with how fromsoft chose to balance sorcery in 3.

You can toggle the ring of favor for infinite sprint if you gotta blast, though you'll cut off the health from the hp bonus it was giving you if you were at max hp, etc.

Instakills are good because you can't chug them off. Suppose you're fighting a white who's got 1400 HP and seven orange flasks that heal 600 a pop; with steady damage you need to deal 1400+7*600=5600 damage, but with a 1400 burst you can get the kill and only have to deal a fourth of the damage you normally would by just chipping away.

As neat as some wombo combos seem, you're vunerable while executing them, whereas you're invincible while riposting.

From my experience, you're best off having a light weapon that's good onehanded and a heavy weapon thats unparrible and has hyperarmor for clubbing a bunch of dudes at once.

Meme tactics like sniping etc are also worth considering.

just go to 10 faith so you can cast gentle prayer with a chime in each hand behind mobs if you really need to heal. With a simple caestus you can do that all the time for no real fp cost at all. Regen is great in duels, but when everyone has seven orange flasks readily available you're going to spend a lot of time bumping into the top of your hp bar anyway. Just camp out with chimes and keep re-equipping SPR if you're out of estus for fast recovery, having steady recovery during the fight itself isn't that important.
