General opinion is that it's shit.

For me, I loved it.
It's very fast, if you played Demon's Souls, it compares to that game the most out of the series, especially now that the hyper armor is actually a thing.

The PvE is very solid, kinda too many bonfires ( the same problem as DaS2) and the NG+ is shit, but otherwise a very solid game.

Level design absolutely BTFOs DaS2.

It's very linear, but also very decent game

I'd be willing to believe that in terms of the network test and pure gameplay because the DS2 Network test played a lot differently than the rest of the game.

Saying that DS2 had areas with atmosphere comparable to Tower of Latria? He had to be lying at that point. While the gameplay was indeed changed between the versions, I really doubt the areas in the game changed THAT considerably to go from "Tower of Latria"-tier atmosphere to "bleh" in a heartbeat.

What are /dsg/'s thoughts on dual wielding in DaS3?

Kinda bored with my spear turtle build, but I still love spears and would like to be able to use them in invasions. I was thinking maybe if I dual wielding, since spears don't really suffer from any downsides between 1H or 2H, it might be viable? I was thinking of using the black knight GS. It has the highest defensive stats for ultra weapons afaik (45 stability, 65% physical and otherwise 50 across the board) so it can reasonably function similar to a small shield, does huge damage without needing any buffing, doesn't weigh TOO much (for UGS's anyways) and in the offhand does a huge horizontal sweep (compared to the straight pokes of the spear). Feel like they would compliment each other better than say, an offhand yhorms.

Thoughts/suggestions?

your shield loses stability and absorption when you turtle poke, BKS with magic shield will still take around 75% of the incoming damage. It's better to just use a hyperarmor weapon like a claymore and take 100% in exchange for being able to dock half their health in a stunlock if that's your game. Shields are literally just for backstab fishing, and aren't even required for it. If you really want to use one, you're better off using it with a stance straightsword so you can hug people with the shield and catch them as they roll away with R1's, then use the stance thrust to go through people who are hyperarmor trading.

You poke them while blocking shit and then when they inevitably unzip the caestus you run at them and feign running R1's over and over until they try to parry it and instead you just run at and around them and press R1 while holding L1 behind them, preferably with hornet ring equipped, until they put away the parry tool or more likely, die. Their other option is to attack into your shield at which point you tank 1-2 R1's and then roll back, recover your stamina, and run at them again. If they just keep doing that you eventually actually DO fire off a running R1 (which they've proven they won't parry), then they'll think you're doing running R1's again and will try to parry you, at which point you turtlepoke backstab them. When you turtlepoke for a backstab it uses a special animation that is much faster than a normal R1 and sucks them in faster, making it very difficult to escape. I think the range of spears (compared to thrusting swords) also plays a factor in sucking them into the backstab, but I don't know for sure.

Other than that: backpeddle. Backpeddling is your friend. The trick is managing your stamina properly and spacing, knowing when you can attack. In arena though it's mostly about punishing parry fishers over and over.

And you can backstab people who are walking backwards with shield up, you can literally backstab anyone. Just keep walking diagonally towards them until they start walking backwards without facing you; since it's impossible to walk backwards without locking on, if they're walking backwards without facing you directly, that means you're in a different position on their screen. Once you know that you can just sprint up and backstab them and you'll get it to connect before they can do anything.

Quality with 18 faith for the swordspear, I was mainly looking for the highest (physical) damage spear with good reach I could find for getting gold in arena because if it wasn't already apparent, I knew I'd be backstabbing parry fishers a LOT. It also has a lot of other benefits too though (having a horizontal slash while 1H'd is very useful, and of course the WA not being garbage like other spears). I was using 37 endurance but I'd suggest going up to the full 40 at meta level, sacrifice some VIG and maybe not go full 40/40. Honestly you can probably get away with using a BK shield for the most part instead of taking on the huge weight of the havel's.

You can do it with thrusting swords too, estoc is great for reach while quills are great for the high damage crits.

Why are all the strongest weapons in this game not even good because they have a varied moveset? They're all just retarded R1 spam and their R2's are usually terrible

There are very few things that can one shot people, especially hosts, anon. Even a hornet riposte probably isn't going to kill a host with 40 VIG and potentially life ring as well, not without taking some damage first, even worse if they have tears.

Better to have high damage output combined with versatility so you can deal with a range of situations but still kill a host or phantoms in only a few hits. Honestly being able to fuck up phantoms immediately is usually the benchmark, not hosts, since the phantoms aren't embered.

They're still the literal longest SS's in the game, they're still straight swords, the L1's are all still insanely good (especially the running L1), it can still combo for a million spin2win damage, and the rolling L1 still works it's just a tad bit slower.

No one said drangs couldn't be played around, in fact they have plenty of weaknesses, it's just that if someone who knows what they're doing lands an R1 on you and the connection is decent, you're probably dead, so they're viable now and great for murdering people who don't know what the drang guy is trying to do.

It's like when I hornet backstab people who unzip the caestus against my pokey weapons, especially spears. I could say the same thing: he pulled out the parry tool and I knew exactly what he was doing so I ran at him feigning a running R1 until he threw out a parry and I punished him in recovery frames for it, it's a shit gimmick and I'm going to trash every one of you trying to parry, etc.

early on elemental infusions can sometimes come out better if you're investing in health/endurance, but by the time those infusions readily available you'll probably be able to invest enough in str/dex to not need them, save for preinfused things you might find like the fire longsword or a heide knight sword
