The change in the leveling process applies to the entire game, not just those with TTK. If it didn't, you would still need to find gear with the energy and shard slots to level up your stuff with LL to make it to 30.

You can get to 40 with the base game, but you can't get any relevant gear to drop for you to do activities at higher light levels. If what you're saying is true he would have had to grind for gear to make it to 22 in the first place instead of just dinging there.

Everything drops from rank 0 on post-game rewards, that includes emblems, shaders, ships, ghosts, artifacts, and weapon/armor in rotation.
Rank-up packages are no longer a thing.

Other than being able to buy weapons directly, there's no reason or incentive whatsoever to even reach rank 5, let alone with all 3 characters.


At this rate, soon enough they'll probably either add something or restructure the ranking completely, once they realize nobody is bothering to get to 5 any more.


The question is if this is an emerging trend, if it is, the next thing you know, you'll only need to fill all the win nodes to get to the lighthose, and it won't need to be flawless.

Apparently, Rank 5 gives guranteed good rolls on weapons and armor in post game rewards. I just hate the fact that you don't have the opportunity to get an virtually guranteed reward not be sold that week from winning games.
