jesus fucking christ this general has gone to shit. in air combat training, you fly 1v1 to learn the maneuvering portion of air combat, how to defeat an opponent through superior placement of your aircraft and management of your own energy. you fly 2v2 afterward to learn how to win a fight with tactics, how to fight alongside a wingman and how to outsmart your enemy instead of outfly them.

it has nothing to do with esports you chode.

F-5, MiG-21, pretty much anything really. I don't even have the fundamentals of air combat down, so anything I learn should be able to be taken to other aircraft. I'd just prefer to fly something with missiles, pure guns combat is a bit too easy to win with good defensive flying I find.
>>
>>160150568
The F-5 and the MiG are rather good aircraft to start with, but these aren't going to teach you how to BVR at all. But like you said your going to want to be able to bring what you learn to other shit.
>>
>>160151146

How the hell do you even learn BVR? I have no clue how to reliably defeat an AMRAAM other than notching and hoping for the best, or going down and dirty in the weeds to try and break lock with terrain/cause the missile to strike a hill or something.

Looks like I've got reading material at work for a few weeks now.

Would you recommend practicing against the AI at all? When I was flying the prop fighters, I found they were super predictable, which made it really easy to learn the counters to the few maneuvers they'd make and then take them down within a couple of turns. Not sure how that'll hold up in a world with missiles, though- the AI seems much more geared towards fighting in high performance jets (considering the principal defensive move for them seems to be a straight vertical climb)

DCS Prop plane AI are really shit when it comes to dogfighting but they are used to be in jets going alot more faster than 300mph. But AI is only going to get you so far in learning how to kill stuff and once you get there you will good for your first few fights vs a human.

So I've just gotten back into DCS, been flying the F-5 mostly because it's really fun to fight MiG-21s in it and m u l t i r o l e

I have a few questions that Google hasn't been able to solve for me:

Is there any way to export just the gun camera footage from DCS without having to save the track?

Is there a table with release parameters and reticule depression for all the ordinance available, including the snakeyes? Those have been omitted from every table I've seen, along with air to ground gun employment parameters

Is there a dummy bomb with a smoke charge in DCS right now? I'd really like to be able to practice bombing runs and have a consistent smoke plume from each hit so I can see how far off I am after a pass.

also lmao

The one in the manual only lists two sets of parameters and it's only for the low-drag bombs, there's no mention of low level bombing with snakeyes or release profiles for CBUs anywhere in so far as I can see.

What's alpha with relation to a plane anyway

All I know is that the A320 and such have an alpha-floor thing... which is something, and that it's probably related to the angle of attack.
>>
>>160175348
It is, in fact, angle of attack.
>>
>>160175503
is there any special reason to call it alpha or is it just for writing into equations?

>>
>>160175548
Love of jargon is at the core of aviation. Makes it easier for us to make people think pilots are smart.
>>
>>160175681
Yeah but angle-of-attack is already jargon.

I like to imagine it as meta-jargon to confuse people like me, personally. A form of pilot elitism against people with patchy knowledge.
>>
>>160174137
They do? Good to know. What's the rate?

>>160174936
Yeah that'd be easier by now.

>>160175548
It has alpha as a symbol in equations so that probably just stuck with people over AoA. But also >>160175681 Aviation has a fetish for abbreviations et al.
>>
>>160175765
Oh yeah meta jargon is a big part of it. It's why airlines often refer to pilots as "tech crew" now. You've got to go to next level jargon to establish your dominance.

It's a wank, really. But I couldn't say it in public.

It's more about the cursor totally disappearing and there being nothing you can do to get it back other than disconnecting.

Not just cockpit cursor, the mouse in general, so you can click anything at all.

I'd say its game breaking.
>>
>>160179139
I run in borderless, and i get the opposite issue, if i alt tab at all, or sometimes even if i don't the windows mouse comes up, and just stays there.

Same, but once you die or respawn, it just vanishes.

How something like this gets by a week of testing...

>How something like this gets by a week of testing...

Because no one cares about open beta anymore anon, because ED was completely unresponsive when people were reporting bugs, and they still didn't fix them, not to mention their bug reporting system is based on luck whether something is seen or not, and the forum doesn't have proper bug posting guidelines, and their incessant
>PLS POST TRAK
When it's something they could just turn the game on for and see it fucking doesn't work, made people give up on it.

Also no even when i die the cursor wont disappear.
I think if you die tab out click something tab back in it comes back, but only in borderless.

Bottom right corner, "SHPEM". Should say SHLEM but close enough.

Also 6 R73s lol.

Also F-15 is in A/G mode (??????)

But yeah I'm surprised they went through the effort to make both cockpits pretty accurate. Little effort goes a long way.

I wonder how they got the info. This movie came out in 97, so I'm impressed the MiG is that close to being accurate.

I don't know about A/G mode, but this is the radar scope I was talking about on the F15's.

The decision to Fox3 into what is essentially a merge with a giant "please shoot me" air force one is a little questionable, but I think if you fire Amraams in STT mode, they don't pick a target randomly, because they never go "hot" like they would in TWS mode (pic again, no TWS indicator).
>>
>>160187320
Also it's funny you noticed the R73's, because the Air Force One correctly dumps flares as response. I'm really impressed, considering the planes have like zero focus in that movie.

seriously why the fuck doesn't DCS have an SA-2 that's the single-most produced and combat-used SAM system in history

Instead the earliest we have is an SA-3 which, IIRC, was only used to shoot down a spy plane once and only deployed in and around Moscow.

My honest opinion on it is that the SAM AI is so shit that with the increased range, the SA2 would plain refuse to work correctly.

The Arado E.381 (Kleinstjäger – "smallest fighter") was a proposed parasite fighter aircraft. Conceived by Arado Flugzeugwerke in December 1944 for Germany's Luftwaffe during World War II, the E.381 was to have been carried aloft by and launched from an Arado Ar 234 "mother" aircraft. It would then have activated its rocket engine, which would have propelled it to attack Allied (mainly American and British) bombers. Development was cancelled due to lack of funds and official support.[1][3][4]

I get the impression the track files are simply a recording of all your control inputs and key presses, along with initial mission setup. When you play the track the game merely runs the mission, repeating the recorded control inputs - track files tend to break when on different versions of dcs when the AI behaves slightly differently.

Yes that's exactly what they are, but the DCS physics engine isn't perfectly determinate like a shooter or strategy game usually is so the whole thing falls apart very easily as tiny imperfections in results add up quickly.

It's okay, but not great. What hurt it the most was the radar becoming useless when you're below ~3km which makes locking up targets to fire R-3Rs at very awkward.

On F-5 vs MiG-21 servers it's almost impossible to use because most F-5s will fly on the deck (and they should). On those servers I typically just take 4 R-60Ms and nothing else.
>>
>>160193932
You're doubting the AI is incapable of operating a long range SAM with shit like the missiles of the other SAMs literally exploding mid air if they lose lock on you for even a micro second. It's so laughably easy to avoid SAMs in DCS they may as well not even be there.
>>
>>160229985

Huh, neat. That borne in mind, in the F-5 v. MiG-21 matchup, which is the better aircraft? When the F-5 dropped I thought the Fishbed would have the upper hand, what with having SARHs on top of good heaters. How wrong was I?
>>
>>160230203
What makes the F5 vs Mig21 matchup so great is that they're two planes designed with completely different principles and doctrines in mind. There is no "better" in this case because for starters, the strengths of both planes lie in completely different fields. I don't buy into this "what if both pilots flew perfectly" business, because this literally never happens. Neither in real life nor in a simulator.

It's propably the most perfect matchup in DCS as of now (the Mig15 vs Sabre matchup is ALMOST equally as good, but the planes are more similar and less capable, compared to the F5 vs Mig21, thus making it a bit less interesting) and in the forseeable future.
>>
Do you rather replicate the real plane hotas layout or do you just go with some generic layout for all planes?
>>

You weren't that wrong back when the radar worked at low altitude, but even on a good day and when it actually worked it still was short ranged and finicky, and once you entered a furball the only way to get lock was to use beam mode on a target that's against the sky. The R-3R is a good tool to have at your disposal, but I still prefer R-60s because you can get silent kills with them.

If you ask me, I think the MiG-21 has a very marginal advantage over the F-5, if only because it's so much faster in a straight line. However 9 times out of 10, it really comes down to the pilot. They are designed for completely different things and fight in completely different ways, so the pilot that can best fly their plane to their advantages while at the same time exploiting the other's weaknesses will win.

>>160230653
When I get a new plane, I first start by mapping as close to the real stick as possible. Usually there's a good reason that the things that are on the real stick/throttle are on the stick/throttle so you'll want them there. Over time I make tweaks based on preference and what I feel would be easier to use.

I don't think i have it installed, but from what I heard and saw its alright for IL2. But then again I only evet played SF to fly around in the Crusader a bit so I don't know how in depth the missiles were in that.

I've only seen missiles explode on take off, because the radar can't see the missile, because of retarded mission makers.

You have to fly at a high enough altitude to use the shkvhalala, but because of the speeds the Su-25 travels at, you have very little time to find, lase and destroy targets.

This is why the slow speed of the A-10, or hover speeds of attack helos, is what makes them so much more efficient at CAS

WEEEEEEEEEW LAD

And we still don't have information on the R-27.

>>
>>160256479
The thing is the su-25 is more of a strike aircraft than a CAS one.

It's use is that of a highly mobile Artillery
platform.
You sit around.
Someone spots a target, marks it, you go in shoot your shit, and leave.
>>
>>160257125
That's true for the A model.

The T model when using lased missiles that have to be homed into the target is an entirely different story, and I dont blame the Russians for not trying to widen production on the newer Su25s, even if they had the money it's not worth it.
>>
>>160257358
No it's the same story, the shkval isn't really adequate for finding targets on your own, unless you know the exact area where they'll be.

That's why the shkval was never added to the su-25SMs

The thing with the SU-25T as a CAS plane is that the combination of the speed in which you fly at plus the scan angle of the sensor don't work so well together. The 25T is more fitted as an attack aircraft. You get in knowing what and where is the shit you'll hit, you hit it and then fuck off.

The first step in getting gud with the 25T I'd say is to understand that if compared to the 25A, both your munitions and aircraft have a fuckton more drag and less maneuverability. So you must pick very mission specific loadouts. No flying with 2 TV guided missiles + vikhrs + mercury pod or something like in your picture. You'll have the aerodynamics of a brick. If you pick vikhrs in your loadout for example, try to keep everything else as small as possible. You already have a lot of munitions to expend so you don't need to bring FAB-500s depending on your mission, 250s or 100s will do.

The second step is assessing your targets and getting good at spotting shit with your eyeballs. The problem with the shkval is that it doesn't work very well as a recon sensor, unlike the A-10C TGP for example, because of the limited forward looking angle it has. So with the shkval you'd most of the time scan for shit and then turn, lock it on the shkval and pop a bomb or missile on it's ass.

Everything else, I'd say, comes from practicing these two principles. Spend your shit wisely, you can loiter around a LOT if you don't leave the throttle at 100% all the time. Also the included campaigns for the 25T are just random masochistic missions played in a non specific order and the victory depends on how you do on 50 or so missions.

About the AA, not really besides the SEAD pod or the RWR or doing short false runs with the shkval to try to spot something.

I hope I could help.

Why does this happen in Flaming Cliffs 2?

It only happens when I zoom close up, and when I'm near an object. It stands out most on the carrier but I think when I flew too close to another plane I got similar effects.

(I'm using Intel HD graphics, but I've a feeling it's something other than that.)
>>

Anon... I

Using a bunch of hamsters would net you better graphics processing.

Flaming cliffs has a weird thing with the camera there' a line across everything that's too close to it, but i guess with you using intel the problem becomes much worse than it is.

Rear facing radars are such a cool concept. That reminds me why aren't radar pods a thing when targeting, and jamming pods are? I'm sure there's a good reason, just seems like it would useful, especially since they could be installed forward or backwards.
>>
>>160285606
Probably too expensive/heavy to do it
>>
>>160285606
My guess would be the integration work required to hook it into a plane's avionics. A jamming and targeting pod is a fairly self sufficient piece of hardware that doesn't need that much info passed between the plane and pod.
>>
>>160285606
Something else to think about is that a forward facing radar pod would be pretty useless. Radar isn't additive. Two small radars don't have the same detection power as one big radar. Things get weird when you start talking about AESAs though. Those are magic.

Admittedly a rear facing radar pod is a pretty cool idea, but you run into the problems I mentioned >>160286512 where integrating it into the planes avionics are complicated. A radar pod would likely be its own separate sensor, similar to the HTS on the F-16. It certainly works, but it doesn't integrate nicely into the plane's workflow, and you have to keep an eye on two radar screens to try and use it in tandem with another sensor or display.

But that's all just my educated guesses based on what I've seen of aircraft system. I'm sure with enough money you could do anything, but the bean counters have likely done the cost benefit analysis and found it's not worth the effort.
>>
>>160285606
My guess would be size is an issue, though I don't know much about radars.

I remember the F-20 nose (i.e. the one from the F-5) being too small to hold a proper BVR radar or something, which limited it. Unless modern technology is such that a truly BVR F-20 is possible, in which case I really really want one. Anyway back to the point: A reasonably aerodynamic pod would place size constraints on the radar, which in turn might limit it's utility.
>>
>>160287545
It is possible with AESA memes, since an AESA radar is made up of many tiny radars that can be fitted pretty much anywhere on the plane.

It can turn supremely well, in general, but compared to actual superiority fighters it can barely keep up mostly due to how much more thrust/weight they have. The F-5 was designed mostly privately, it wasn't part of a competition set by the US and aside from training it didn't really have a place that the US inventory was wanting of. More importantly, it's a 3rd generation aircraft, and a light, cheap one.

If DCS was a world of only 3rd-generation aircraft the F-5 would be one of the nastiest to get into a gunfight with, but alas it is not so. Thankfully that doesn't stop it from being fun as hell and laughing when people forget it has teeth.

In a 1v1 I'd say the Fishbeds raw thrust wins the day, it's pilot can afford to be far more slapdash with his flying. Whereas in the F-5 energy management is always a constant concern.

However in a furball, group tactics can easily offset this F-5 disadvantage and the F-5's superior SA really comes into play.

Seeing as these "battles" take one year dev time you have some bit to wait for your pacific ops friend.

The devs of the Team Fusion IL-2 CloD mod are making a North Africa theatre.

777 intend to move to the Pacific after Battle of Kuban is finished, but that won't be until late next year in all likelihood.

Have you flown it in the last couple of months? The MiG-21 turns much better since its flight model was changed not too long ago.

It used to go into that high AOA slipstream of death really easily.
Now, I feel like I can turn with F-5s pretty well, and have the thrust to weight to GTFO if I'm fucking up.

MiG-21 vs F-5 servers are genuinely fun as fuck, just wish the visibility was better.

>>160326367

>SA

Kind of makes me want to get it. The idea of a western RWR, a radar that works (how good is the F-5 radar?) and great visibility makes it pretty appealing.

In fact I'm gonna get it on the next sale. I wish I could sell the Mirage because I don't like it and never fly it.
>>
>>160330842
The F-5 radar is fairly decent. You can point the antenna up or down 30 degrees each way (possibly more)

It can detect large targets out to 40nm and fighter sized out to around 20, and lock them from under 20.

It also had 2 dogfight modes, 1 for missiles, which tells you how to fly to get the best AIM-9 solution, and guns which is just the radar gunsight coming into play (Scan ranges are 10mn and 5mn for the 2 DFmodes respectively)
>>
>>160331035
F-5 radar gunsight is much better than MiG-21 one. F-5 would be so amazing if it had CCIP for bombs and rockets, damn.
>>
>>160331330
F-5 has a very impressive bomb load for its size but actually hitting things takes some skill, and also time and preparation to get all the parameters right.

Also important to note the CCIP for bombs is a fictional feature in MiG-21 (it is realistic for rockets though). The pipper doesn't move in the real bombing mode.

>how good is the F-5 radar?
Better than the MiGs, you can detect 21s at around 20nm and whilst locking them up can be finicky (you have to point the radar right at them to lock and that can involve getting the scan angle just right) once you lock them you get range and steering ques that are more intuitive that the MiG's.

Just don't expect something that can fly circles around the MiG, they're very comparable in their envelope. The 21 has the edge in thrust by a mile though so in an F-5 you have to be smart and not let him bait you into vertical manoeuvres you just can't do.

Is there a list of confirmed 2.5 features? I'm afraid it's just going to be combining the maps.

>The future of DCS holds servers where the F-5, MiG-21, Mirage III, AJS-37, and A-10A/SU-25 fight together

fuck god it's gonna be lit I want my 3rd gen combat and I want it fukken now. I guess the F-14A can come too, and when the F/A-18 comes out in like 2034 we can just restrict its weapons and pods to try to approximate an F/A-18A
>>
>>160354610

Can MiG-29A come also

DCS should just focus on 3rd gen desu. Nothing is classified, and everything is fun
>>
>>160350057
Dogfight guns mode (or dogfight missile mode) are both overrides that automatically select a HUD mode and stays on that mode until you cancel out of it. That's why changing the mode doesn't look like it does anything.

If you just lock up a target in normal tracking mode, then you can use the HUD knob to change what your crosshair does with that target info.

desu I don't think the computer assisted sight helps much. It's not very accurate, and neither are the F-5's guns so I just do it the old fashioned way. That and if you're trying to be sneaky you don't want to set off the guy's RWR with a loud lock.
>>
>>160354685

Sure why not, but I think weapon restrictions would have to be put in place (can't it carry the R-73 meme missile?)

>running in a shitload of fighters with bombs strapped aboard to attack a target defended by AAA

Fair enough, but at that point it's no longer a 3rd gen scenario and all the older jets previously listed would be completely wrecked.

>yfw the MiG-21bis went into service the same year the F-15 flew
F-15 is just pure godsplane lad, that and the bis was a late extension programme to keep a proven design useful for a few more years.

Not that I heard. What I did hear of it doing is getting the jump on several lobstermen during its sea trials who saw another trawler on their radar, only to look up and see a 600+ foot long missile destroyer come through the fog. They had to put something on it that amounted to a giant radar flare to account for the stealth so it could safely navigate the local waters without smearing people. It also rescued a lobsterman who had a heart attack and sent up a distress call

jesus christ fighting this thing is fucking hard especially against SU-24s who can just push the power forward and outrun you. The few times that I did get close enough to put guns on, my shots seemed to just go around the fuckers, and both missile shots went stupid right after they left the rail.

At least my wingman didn't fair any better. I guess the point of that mission is to keep them away from the airbase, not to kill them all, anyway.

That's bullshit. There's no technical reason stopping DCS from having good special effects. The reason it's explosions suck is because they are using effects that are literally a decade old from LOMAC and nobody cares enough to make new ones.

You don't even need a fancy engine to have good effects, just a good artist.

You really have no exp with game dev do you? As someone who has worked for some rather large well known developers, I can say it ain't as hard as you make it out to be. It is just not where they have put any focus into. Which they should. Explosions look like shit in DCS.
>>
>>160428362

It's amplified by the fact that overall the game looks pretty nice. The aircraft, cockpits, missile trails, all end in this horrible explosion effect.

I hope to god we get that super bright, large, engulfing yellow fireball, like the ones you see in any video of an air to air missile kill ever.

Let's push the retards off with actual flight sim discussion:

Razbam is making the Mirage IIICJ "Shahak". A cursory google search shows that it carries... basically all the same armament as the Mirage 2000C we have in game. So what, other than being a Gen 3 jet, will the Mirage III actually offer different than the Mirage 2000?
>>
>>160432095
It's actually quite a different plane from the mirage 2000C.

The question is, if it's going to have bullshit performance like the 2000C
>>
>>160432679

In what ways, though? I mean I doubt it'll be FBW and the radar will probably be shittier, but anything else?

And yeah that too I fucking hate flying the Mirage now because of lmao infinite energy

It will be lit. The future is bright friends, keep the faith.
>>

You can't really compare it to the M2000. That's a bit like saying just because an F-16 carries the same Sidewinders as an F-5, they both fight and fly the same.

Either way the Mirage III is a proper 3rd gen shitplane, so it'll make a good addition to DCS. It's also widespread, so it's "realistic" for many theaters.

I thought it was Aviodev doing a Mirage III though, not Razbam.

This is sorta unrelated, but why are cockpits consistently one of the worst looking things in sims when they aren't done by pros?

Every DCS mod cockpit looks like shit, every BMS non-f16/18 cockpit looks like shit.

This is coming form someone who probably couldn't draw a decent circle. Just curious.
>>
>>160444934
MiG-21 cockpit is very nice looking, and has some great details that you don't even notice in 2D like the depth of the radar scope and the glass covering it. Trying MiG-21 in VR gave me a whole new appreciation for the work that went into that cockpit model.

It's probably because modders make their textures the same way you would for a still rendering with basically just diffuse/normal/specular. Game-engine textures tend to work a little differently due to how they render and/or correct each pixel-color from the textures with more than just image data, there's a stack of 5+ maps controlling the end result. This is especially true of physically-based rendering systems, if you were to look at the raw texture map it's colors would look way off.

Also, modders tend to make cockpit textures from pieced together photographs of the cockpits, which takes a lot less time than making them from scratch but doesn't look as nice, I think because even the highest resolution photos you can find online aren't quite high-res enough for it.

It's the fact that they know something that the average Joe doesn't gets to their head and inflates their egos. They want to take every excuse to let everybody know that they're so smart and cool for being able to fly a virtual jet.

I've been flying for about a year now, and it's honestly amazing when you think about how little most aircraft have actually changed since WW2. The engines that power most planes and choppers nowadays are thoroughly mediocre compared to the likes of the old Rolls Royce Merlins, Pratt and Whittneys and even Allison engines that ran those old warbirds, all the cockpit instruments are the same and give the same information, and the tech behind everything is almost unchanged in most general aviation aircraft

The P-47 in IL2 is modeled innacurately, there's a fault in the FM coding that makes some planes, namely the 47 and 38, handle extremely slow and unresponsive. There's never been an accurate modeling of either plane in a sim before really.
>>
>>160489003
Have you ever considered that the P-47 and P-38 might have actually handled slowly and unresponsively because they're huge?

The F-35 has actually grown on me quite a lot but I still prefer the rhino and eagle aesthetics to it.
There's a lot of misinformation around the F-35 but it's looking to become a great piece of hardware although it is still facing some issues. Don't believe anything said by anyone that views Sprey as a credible source. Look up The Revolt of the Majors and just find everywhere Sprey is mentioned to get an idea of why he isn't credible (his lack of credibility comes from far before the F-35 was even conceived).

The 47 & 38 were not the most maneuverable fighters of the time but they were plenty maneuverable enough, as both of them were originally designed for endurance and range. Despite it's size the P-47 was fairly maneuverable, but it wasn't a match in a turning fight with it's much lighter adversaries the Bf-109 and Fw-190. What it did have was stability and a monstrously powerful engine, so tactics developed around getting the most out of it's high-alt performance, dive & climb capability, and it's speed. A lot of the guys that fly warbirds say that the P-47 is intimidating to look at but one of the easiest planes to fly, its evenly responsive to control input, it's big wings generate a lot of lift and it's large control surfaces are almost perfectly balanced. It had easy stall characteristics and it's cockpit visibility was one of the best, although it did tend to get a bit hot so a working a/c was important at lower altitudes

Luftwaffe pilots are on open record that they respected but never felt outmatched by the P-51, however they did legitimately fear the P-47.

> not considering Prey a credible sources

Yeah, let's mock the guy who developed the two most popular/efficient fighter/attack-plane of the world, let's pretend nobody else came up with the same criticism on their own.
Next you are going to tell us the VTOL capability was necessary or that the F-35 is worth its cost.

We know, we know, we can keep on this debate forever, even point out that Sprey originally didn't believe in radar, which in fairness were somewhat shit at the time (we should also all know how badly we predicted PC). But Sprey bashing is being made into a scapegoat meme so proponent don't have to answer all its demonstrated problem.
Is the F-35 incredible technically ? Yes, but there innumerable good reasons to believe this is "the worst fighter the USA ever made".

At best it's incredible technology that would have made it extraordinary... plagued by a pointless VTOL version.

I'm out, please ignore this bait-worthy topic

But why? What am I missing? The way he describes it in >>160494949 seems to match my memory of both planes, although to be fair it's probably been 10 years since I touch IL2 46. Even in, and arguably especially War Thunder, both the P-47 and P-38 are very good planes when flown right. I remember flying IL2 on Hyperlobby servers and although rare, some guys would do just fine with those planes.

What's so wrong about those two planes that has them supposedly never been done right before? The P-47 in particular seems very aerodynamically unremarkable so what's so hard to simulate about it that everybody gets wrong.

I'm legitimately asking here, because I'm not seeing it, and if it's because I'm missing something I'd like to know.
>>
>>160498991
Look up area ruling. It became important when planes started to go supersonic.
>>
>>160509525
The sluggishness of the controls that one would experience in a dive is present even in level flight, which is obviously wrong, it's not just those planes that suffer it, but the 109 and even 51 too. Compare flying the WW2 fighters in DCS to their counterparts in IL2 and you'll get a taste of the problem

I like the game a lot. It's flawed as hell but still has a bunch of really awesome mechanics that do a great job of being inspired and work like real life, but are simplified to keep it more accessible. It even has individual (and functional) cockpits and HUDs for each of its planes.

This is a console flight sim that has a legit CCRP bomb release mode that you can accurately loft bombs with, and that should tell you a lot about the kind of people that made it.

Rosoboronexport claims that the 3BR8 shell can penetrate 25mm RHA angled at 60 degrees at 1500m while ATK claims that the M791 penetrates the same thickness of armour at 1300m. Knowing that the standards for certifying armour penetration differ between the East and the West, the discrepancy between the two rivals is actually even bigger. The Russians use V80 to certify their ammunition. The West uses V50.
Generally speaking, the 3BR8 shell is capable of doing whatever the 3BR6 shell was capable of, but to a greater degree. The increased penetration potential allows gunners to confidently engage a larger collection of main battle tanks from the rear or even the side in some cases. Examples of these may include the Chieftain, Challenger 1, Leopard 2s and the M60 series. The Leopard 2 in particular has very thin bustle armour. It is possible for a BMP-2 to mission kill a Leopard 2 from a distance of a kilometer or so. Conversely, it is not possible to defeat the side turret armour of a member of the T-tank triad (T-64, T-72, T-80) from the side at the same distance. Unsurprisingly, being a great deal more accurate and powerful, it has been gradually replacing the obsolete 3UBR6 since the 1986, although the 3UBR6 is still being widely used both in training and live fire exercises due to lower cost.
>>
>>160561053
A pyrotechnic charge is used to instantaneously cock the cannon and ready it for firing. However, if a pyrotechnic charge is not loaded, then the gunner can still manually cock the gun by repeatedly working a lever attached to the cannon receiver. The process is laborious and time consuming (due to the heavy springs necessary to withstand the tremendous recoil forces), but it does have its own advantages. Although such eccentricities would not be necessary in an electrically operated chaingun, a chaingun requires external power to fire. If the power source was interrupted, a chaingun would be rendered useless. Due to its gas-powered nature, the 2A42 can still be fired with the vehicle operating in "degraded mode" - knocked out engine and no battery power, all operations reverted to manual control. The advantages are few, but significant. For instance, if the BMP-2 were to be hit by an RPG in the engine compartment, or if it ran over a large mine, it could still aid its squad in holding off the enemy until help arrives.
