Glad to see all that manpower going into a map 90% of the community doesn't have/want

What the fuck is worng with the engine?
My fps instantly drops to 20-30 as soon as i turn my head in the direction of 10 or more ground targets. Are they going to fix this performance issue in the near future or should i just end myself because i cant stand this much stutter

The only people who dont want it are the ones who dont understand how real world flight ops work, have a complete lack of aviation historical knowledge of the area and how its contributed to the advancements in aerospace, and of course never served in the air force in real life.

Not him, but I know how real world flight ops work, been in the area, know a lot about aviation history, I know how important the air bases in the area are in terms of amazing secret shit that gets flown out there, and I still think NTTR is a waste of time.

At least from a consumer standpoint.

From the military point of view, as in selling DCS to the people that actually make ED money, having an admittedly amazing representation of NTTR nets them a shit ton of brownie points in the eyes of the people who buy these things for training. I bet you that at IITSEC in a couple weeks, ED will be there showing off the latest version of NTTR in The Battle Simulator.

I'm confident that marketing TBS for professional training was a factor in ED committing to NTTR.
>>
>>160577420

I have no doubts its a good terrain. It looks amazing. The actual ground is meh, but the city looks great.

My issue with it is that its such a restrictive and limited theater in terms of scenarios.

>>160577483

>I got randomly stationed at Nellis so that is why NTTR is a good DCS map

Good argument man.
>>
>>160577681
I think NTTR is neat, don't get me wrong. It's really cool to fly over areas I actually recognize. However, it still bothers me that this is the first terrain ED has done, and the first terrain added to DCS after flying over Georgia for 10 years.

If this was the second or third terrain I wouldn't mind at all, and in fact I'd probably be pretty for it, but I would much rather have had something more than a terrain for pretend fighter pilots to have a good wank over how cool Red Flag and the US are.

Hormunz would have been a much more interesting first terrain.
>>
>>160577681
>still think NTTR is a waste of time.
>goes on to state how it was brilliantly designed and marketed

Not only is Nevada great for the practical purpose of milsim training for the USAF/ANG, there's also another reason it was modeled, along with the A-10C, and the emphasis on WW2 fighter modules, and the upcoming F-18, former Jane's dev Matt Wagner is slowly using DCS to revive every Jane's sim he can under the DCS umbrella, unfortunately younglings like the idiot above cant appreciate that. Those of us who have been flying and simming for over 20 years know the new golden age is nearing, and it's all thanks to a guy who saw an A-10 sim die along with an entire game development studio before most of the posters here were old enough to talk
>>

I dunno about the golden age having already passed. Even though sims always lag behind by half a decade they benefit the most from advancing tech & available hardware. I'm waiting for home-VR to come out of it's teething period and it seems like the population of people playing proper sims is growing more than it has in the last 10 years.
>>
>>160581526
I can see some good times ahead at least for il-2 considering they are going back to their old style of expac pacs done by theatres/battles. Along with them pumping them out at an effective rate.

I couldn't say the same for DCS sadly. The fact its been on the same map for a decade plus shows the state its in.

I don't think any other flight sim has done multiplayer parasite planes
>>
>>160539515
I know, but the OS is still a big factor in performance, especially for older games
>>
>>160581820
I just hope they fix the performance that BoS has currently, it's kinda shit.

And that they finally add that DCG that they had for RoF. I suppose at least PWDCG works with it though.

That said, old IL2 is still the most comfy if you have a well modelled cockpit and plane. The 4.13 Liberator is nice.
>>
>>160577870
>My issue with it is that its such a restrictive and limited theater in terms of scenarios.
Just as restrictive as Georgia, you're not bound to playing events that actually happened you know?

Just like not every mission over Georgia is a recreation of the 2008 war, not every mission over the NTTR has to be a recreation of a Red Flag meet.
>>
>>160582632
>I just hope they fix the performance that BoS has currently, it's kinda shit.
DX11 is slated for sometime December, they usually hit their targets so I'm optimistic.

I need a new monitor and not sure If I should get an Ultra wide or 3 monitors. Anyone here uses an ultrawide? Mostly for euro/murricanTruck sim and farming sim. Sometimes IL-2 stalingrad.
>>
Do fighter jets have checklists?

Like, a paper one that'd just be lying around, or are you expected to be genius enough to always know what to do without needing a reference sheet?
>>
>>160596043
I use an ultrawide, it's very nice. I feel the benefit more when doing work than playing games though.

Pic related.

>>
>>160596737
Paper checklists (or I guess iPad ones) that say for example
LANDING CHECKLIST:
FLAPS: 30
LANDING GEAR: DOWN
LANDING LIGHTS: ON

and so on.

Though I'd assume use would be far less rigid in fighters than airliners, I wonder if it's present at all just to refresh your own memory or make sure you don't forget anything on start-up.

Allright. Well not much then. My current monitor has a lot of screentearing and don't like using the the tv for sims, only games I can play with a 360 controller.

I turn off VSync for the sake of performance, so I guess I get some tear but I really don't notice it.

I could just be used to it I guess. I've an ASUS PB298, I'm very happy with it.
>>
>>160597676
Stupid question here but since you got pretty much the same setup, do you get screenlag/tearing a lot? Scrolling up and down in this thread already makes a lot of lines and tearing. Its not as bad in games but sometimes it gets annoying. I blame my monitor and really hope it gets better with a new one.

I don't think so? But like I said, I could just be really used to it. If it's happening to me I'm certainly not noticing it.

Eh, I don't really like Assetto Corsa much, 2bh. Every single fucking car in it understeers way too fucking much, and oversteers way too fucking little. I've driven some of the cars (namely, some of the ones in the Jap Pack) IRL on a little motorsports track, they don't plow nearly as easily IRL as they do in that game.

I mean you can give Assetto Corsa a try if you want, it's good for F1 racing and shit (I feel like the tire model is probably built first and foremost for that), but if you enjoy technical driving where inducing oversteer is important it's a bit more difficult to get into.

First you'll need to learn how to solder and programming that thing with buttons and shit, and maybe basic machining of whatever material you plan to use if you intend on making more complex parts.

I suggest you learn how to use a CAD program like Solidworks or Solidedge to design your shit if it gets too complex.

Knowing DCS and basically any simulation engine we /could/ have particle effects like that, but they would chug like all fuck and drop your frames into decimals.

Although we do have much prettier if not entirely realistic missiles & vapor trails, hopefully they have the same 12 hour per week intern working on explosions somewhere, so that we'll have good looking explosions just in time for the heat death of the universe.

Flying boats make little logistical sense when everything except the micky-mousiest private airports can operate a wide-body.

>tfw all of the Boeing 314s were scrapped
>tfw there's one barely airworthy Short Sunderland in the world, the other 5 or so are all static exhibits
>tfw there's two Martin Mars, one is already a static and the other one is at the end of it's financial rope

Maybe if there was a surge of public interest in the novelty of golden era aviation, but the practice of traveling by flight is so far removed from it's prestigious origins that the only things people see in planes are cramped seats, crying babies and the smell of re-circulated air.

Ok, I've a problem with the MiG-21. I got into a head-on merge(with me a few thousand meters below him) with a F-15 after I popped out of the mountains, and shot 2 R-3Rs from around 2 to 3 km away. And they both missed after swerving around.

The other guy didn't even move that much too. I switched to my R-60Ms and tried to kill him after I turned around but the fucker noticed me and killed me with an AIM-9.

What I'm trying to ask here is that are the R-3s supposed to be unable to hit anything?

Anything maneuvering, yes. And you say he didn't move much, but the fact that it was a head on approach amplifies the speed, and the angle change that the missiles would have to compensate for

What weapons does the F-5 get?

I've seen some early list by Belsimtek and it was mostly bombs with only the Aim-9s for air to air combat. Does it really get nothing else for that role? That makes it sound like it wouldn't feel all that different from the Sabre to fight with.

Should I just stick with the Mig for the weapon variety?

I have no clue what I'm doing wrong, but when pointing my MiG 21 radar at stuff it just refuses to show up on radar at all. Sometimes I'll get things that are really close for a moment. Is the radar just that bad or am I missing something?

Pointing it at things with icons on at the moment in the tutorials.
>>
>>160663739
What altitude? MiG-21 radar gets fucked by ground clutter. If it's any consolation, I always found the tutorials ass too.

Try putting it on ground clutter filter mode and flying just below the target's altitude.
>>
>>160663908
Put the ground filter and low speed filters on for most of the mission given that you're trailing stuff.

Even went behind some of the antonovs in the mission because they're bigger targets, but it only seems to work with the lock beam thing on a somewhat consistent basis.

Just odd that it wouldn't show anything when below and behind some targets 10NM out, even at low alt.
>>
>>160664142
I wouldn't bother with the low speed filter, it's mainly for helicopters and genuinely low stuff afaik.

As much as I hate to say this... try flying upside down.

On the topic of the MiG though, can you tell me what the three charges on the gun are for? I remember only that I have to press them to make it ready to fire, but after one charge is through I seem to not have any ammo anymore, is there a switch or is it just backup charges in case one fails?

Seaplanes are huge around here, general aviation-wise at least, but as airliners I agree, they're a bit useless.

The thing about it is, flying for me is all about the experience, and that's something that gets lost in those big metal tubes run by greedy corporate types. I'm wondering if something like a giant seaplane might get more love if it were less an airliner and more a cruise ship experience, like the Do-X was

It evolved into the Ka-52, which is a much more effective platform, so they decided to build more of those.

Don't be. The training missions are super hand holding, like the A-10 and MiG-21 (high lights switches, voice over, etc.)

To be honest, its not overly complicated.

If you can learn to fly and chuck vikhr's, you'll be ok.

The rest of the systems are pretty complex though, like the Abris and navigation shit. Data link isn't even too hard either and is super fucking neato to use with a wingman.

Different guy, but the big complaint I've heard about the original Ka-50 is that it over-tasked its single pilot with both operating the weapons and flying the aircraft. There's also the problem with the coaxial rotor being such a nightmare to maintain that it relegates most of them to the status of hangar queen, and the Russkies now use the old Mi-24s and their fancy, new-fangled cousins the Mi-28s, in lieu of the Kamovs

That's my personal biggest ding against the Mi-8: It's complexity. I get that there's two engines to turn on, an APU, an autopilot and various radios, and that the names of the equipment are different to what I'm used to, but do the weapons really need to be that in-depth to activate?

I keep looking at BoS and thinking, "Yeah, I'll get that", then I see that BoM is another $50, they're asking $20 a plane for aircraft that don't have interactive cockpits, and there's currently only two maps available.

Eh, maybe if there's a Steam sale.

In the meantime, it's 1946.

If only the MP wasn't dead.
>>
>>160696108
1946 is still a lot of fun. The DCG especially. Just wish there was an easy way to enable it for all nations and planes.

BoS will hopefully get a performance fix and graphics settings soon. That said there is something offputting about the visual style it has to me. RoF didn't have that issue for some reason so that might jist be me.

Wait for BoK if you like, it's arriving slowly bit by bit over 2017, starting this December.

Will work as a standalone expansion and introduce flashy much needed features such as:

>Proper career mode
>DX11
>Easier way to host your own Coop missions
>Tacview support
etc etc

Question for discussion: fighters of the 1960s were alike in that their designers had unrealistic expectations for missiles and the power of their radars, leading to the deletion of guns. Do you think the heavy reliance on stealth and low-observable technology is the same?
>>
>>160710827
It's certainly possible
>>
>>160696108
They had a sale for BoS where you got everything for $40 or less, cant remember the exact price. They'll probably do it again around Christmas or when BoK gets released
>>
>>160696108
Oh, and even if you only get BoS and not BoM you still play online the same, you still connect and fly with BoM content
>>
>>160710827
No, as in the 60's there was no game changer called AWACS, JSTARS, RIVET JOINT that could detect aircraft/SAM from long ranges at any altitude.
>>
>>160710827
I'd say no because it already kinda proved itself in the Gulf war, (at least in the air to ground realm) and there's not really any decisive capability that 4th gen fighters have that 5th gen fighters lack or had to sacrifice. The F-15 wouldn't even be a better fighter than a stealth-less F-22.
>>
>>160710827
Reminder that that lack of guns wasn't the issue, it was poor training resulting in pilots releasing missiles out of parameters.

Once more advanced training filtered in gun-less Navy F-4s were scoring the same kill rates as gun-pod armed Air Force F-4s.
>>
>>160711826
That was because the Naval F4s were firing AIM9s. Not sparrows. The failing AIM7 was the crux of the missile problem in Vietnam.
>>
>>160712518
True, but my point was that AIM-9s alone were just as effective as AIM-9s + Guns.

>>160712616
AIM-9's and guns, when possible, were used in conjuction together obviously, and were counted as one and the same kill in such circumstances. Of course considering they're both short range weapons who coincide with the same firing distances this shouldn't come as a shock. It was the sparrow that was the odd man out, and was the least reliable A2A weapon for the US

Could have bought any HOTAS on the market, and decided on this out of sheer respect. I'm coming off a long and painful Saitek binge. The last good stick I had was a TM PFCS, in 1996.

I play BMS and DCS, mainly... and some WWII sims.

Thoughts?

>>160720753
>Thoughts

It may look ugly but it's one of the best HOTASes on the market because of it's TANKlike durability and the support CH is willing to provide for it's costumers. Lots of buttons which don't have much travel in their actuation except for the analog microstick on the throttle, no two stage trigger, it's possible to use each device independently or to use the software to map them out in a way that it's recognized as one controller (very useful for BMS). The sensors they use don't have as high of a resolution as other devices I've used, but that doesn't affect anything.

The stick spring is not adjustable and, has a very wide throw, and might be a little on the floppy side but that hasn't been much of a bother to me. The pedals are rather narrow but it hasn't been a problem for me.

The fiberglass resin or whatever they use while injection molding their shit is actually a lot denser and harder than one would imagine and the stick doesn't have a light plasticky feel to it, but a tough, rugged one.

All in all, it's a fucking great HOTAS. One thing you should be aware of is clearly indicated on the pastebin:
>Beware that a few products could have been assembled in Mexico with poor quality and slipped through quality control resulting in shit quality (http://www.ch-hangar.com/forum/index.php/topic/8064-mexican-assembled-ch-beware/)

Thanks for the feedback.

I like how ugly they are... after having 3 Saitek setups (X45, Cyborg EVO, X52) fail in numerous ways, I've gotten sick of the form-over-function meme. I just want something sensible that works. Not to bash Saitek... their controllers have been great, and I haven't tried any of their high end stuff.

Was really leaning toward the Warthog at first, but seeing that old CH stuff looking exactly like it did in PC Gamer when I was a kid, I dunno... it's like it's been waiting for me all these years.

Think I'll be adding some weight to the bases, though. I hear they are a bit light. Either of you two find that to be true?
>>
>>160723060
The base is definitely lighter than the stick but it doesn't move around in the slightest during use given the springs aren't stiff. I wouldn't add any weights to it, personally.

Actually, back during WW2 the US army conducted testing which found that the use of logs actually increased the penetration chance as HEAT technology back then wasn't optimized. The logs were a softer impact zone which allowed the molten jet of metal to form into its designed penetrating shape prior to contact with the main armour and would therefore be more efficient. The fuses on early HEAT rounds would cause the molten jet of metal to not fully form if it impacted directly onto the armour.

They also found the same thing with sandbags (which were commonly mounted on the front of Sherman tanks - the reason they conducted the study if I recall correctly) but couldn't convince the army generals to stop using them even though they were only detrimental in terms of performance. They found that the presence of what tank crews viewed as "armour adds" didn't help with increasing armour (in many cases actually decreasing the effectiveness of it) but ended up having a psychological effect on the tank crews that made them feel safer and thus didn't continue pushing to ban the practice of throwing extra shit on tanks as armour.

The addition of extra tread pieces to armour was also found to have no noticeable increase to armour effectiveness (a common practice among German tank crews).

So Russia has basically given up on MiG and the Fulcrum.

Reasons for this are pretty clear, but I read some interesting shit today.

We all know MiG-29's are 0-10 against the USAF, the Air Force they were specifically designed to defeat. (came out almost 10 years after American 4th gen fighters and still got bodied)

5 were shot down over Yugoslavia without problems.
5 were shot down during Gulf Storm, in which they at least put up a fight.

What is interesting to me is what I learned about the Eritrea-Ethiopia war.
>>
>>160809593

Of course it'll be fun. But with the F-14 and F-18 I don't think I'll be in any rush to buy it when it comes out.

I'll probably just wait for the amraam capable USMC variants first. Unless there's some super cool feature exclusive to the GR9 that I didn't know about.
>>
>With the re-appearance of the EtAF fighters over the battlefield, it became clear to the Eritreans and their Ukrainian instructors, that they would have to fight down the newly-arrived Ethiopian Su-27s, or the ErAF would not be able to effectively support the war effort. Therefore, on the morning of 25 February four MiG-29s were sent to intercept two Su-27s which were patrolling along the front-lines at Badme. Both Sukhois, flown by Russian pilots, detected the appearance of their opponents in time and attempted to disengage, when - all of a sudden - they came under an attack by several R-27/AA-10 missiles. None of the weapons fired by the Eritreans hit, but after evading them, the Russians decided to turn back and fight. The lead acquired the enemy and fired what was reported as a "salvo" of R-27s, targeting one MiG-29 after the other. However, all the missiles missed and the only result was that the Eritreans were forced to break their attack - only to be pounced by the faster Su-27s. The result of following dog-fight was one Eritrean MiG-29 shot down, probably by an R-73/AA-11 IR-homing, short range air-to-air missile. The fate of the pilot, rumoured to have been the commander of the Eritrean Air Force, was not reported by either side.

Russian mercenary/advisor pilots fought against MiG-29's in a live combat scenario.

I feel like this almost could have been the stake in the heart for the Fulcrum. This war happened in 1998-2000. If they were advisors and not just some random Russian's, I have no doubt that they reported this shit to someone.

Flanker and Fulcrum have been upgraded multiple times.

Su-27SM1/2/3, Su-30M2, etc
MiG-29A,S,SMT.

The most modern MiG-29 currently in service is the MiG-29K, which is a navalized MiG-29M/M2. Its actually pretty advanced avionics wise, extremely multi-role. Comparable to the F-16C/F-18C

The most modern Flanker in service is the Su-35S. They are heavily upgraded Su-27's with very modern radar and avionics. They are far and away Russia's most capable fighter. Around 50 are in service with more on the way. They have a shit load of upgraded older Flankers though.

The MiG-35 is still in testing. Its similar to the Su-35 in the fact that its almost a new aircraft with very modern 4++ gen avionics and radar. The only problem is there is basically no orders for it, as countries prefer getting Su-30's or other Flanker derivtives.

As it stands, the only thing MiG is doing now a days is the MiG-29K (which crashed already off the Kuznetsov) and maintaining 1980's MiG-31's.

Basically every role is taken over by Sukhoi planes. Su-24, Su-25, Su-27/30/35, Su-34. Its all Sukhoi from here on it seems.

>tfw the Soviet Union was going to upgrade its entire fleet into Su-27M's, MiG-29M's, and MiG-31M's but collapsed and couldn't afford it
>tfw Russia is only JUST NOW putting Su-27M's and MiG-29M's into service in the form of Su-35's and Mig-29K's.
>MiG-31M never happened

Feels bad. They were literally there, but then they got bodied and got set back literally 25 years. They had these planes made and flying in 1988-90.

They made some properly excellent prop fighters during the later half of WW2, but as far as cutting-edge fighters & bombers they fell off the map when jet engines took over aside from the experimental Yak-38 and the Yak-130 trainer. They kept producing prop planes for both military & civil use, and made several small-medium jet liners.

>The Yak was a nice WW2 fighter, easily on par with the likes of the Spitfires, 109s and Mustangs

>12,000ft altitude cap

US, British, German fighters had advanced automated systems, cutting edge engines that deliver the same horsepower and power their fighters all the way up 40,000ft and had access to metals and proper hardware that Slavs didnt know existed.

Russian fighters got by being built as light as possible, housing very little fuel, and being used almost purely for air to air engagements at low alt, and as more defensive measures than deep interdiction fighters. There was very little that was modern about them at the time, they were more like suped up versions of the low flying short range wooden fighters they already knew how to make.

It's not. Flying in VR is cool as fuck but you are undeniably flying with a significant handicap.
>>
>>160851524
How bad is it? Is it hard to read stuff in the cockpit or is it just impossible to spot anything?
>>
>>160851925
VR is better for Flight Simulator X, Prepar3D or X-Plane 10/11
>>
>>160851925
I own both a Rift and a Vive. It is incredible and I now pretty much avoid 2d monitor flying if at all possible. The only issues are distant target spotting. And sure it is not as hi res/clear as a monitor, but it is totally amazing and useful currently. The imeersion factor is off the charts. Hell the scale when you are in it just is mind blowing. Once you try it, the bennies outweigh the drawbacks even currently. And hopefully it just gets better with each iteration. Reading gauges and stuff, no prob at all. The only issue is distant target spotting..but hey, that is what you have radar for right?

I'd probably do more racing cars than flying anyway. Looking at either getting a vive or a triple screen setup, which would probably cost about the same.
>>
>>160854026
I race alot as well. I run Dirt Rally, Assetto Corsa, iRacing, pCars, hell even Truck Simulator..all amazing in VR.
>>
>>160854026
Get VR over triple screen desu
>>
>>160854026
For realism i would go for vr
But if you want the ability to view 90 degrees to the right or left without moving your head i would go for triple monitor
>>
>>160854026
Triple screen is better if you're desperate to buy something right now, VR still has shitty resolutions and doesn't really have a use outside of a a few genres of games.
>>
>>160856203
Which ones do you own? How many hrs in VR do you have?
>>
>>160851925
I never tried VR after they added the pixel density setting so maybe that makes it better, but I had trouble reading details on instruments without putting my face up to them. Spotting anything out the window was completely impossible without large impostors, but I don't know how that looks now with the new visibility system.

I still stand by what I said though, and whether or not you want to play DCS with VR will depend on how much you value muh immershun over capability. Personally I prefer head tracking and my monitor because I don't think the immersion gained is worth the loss in effectiveness but your mileage may vary.

That said, if you or anybody gets the chance to play DCS with VR at least once, definitely do it because that is no joke the closest you can get right now to feeling like you're flying without actually flying a plane. Its pretty good.

Can anime posters just stop?

If your favorite thread just had hundreds of 100% off topic posts, it'd be annoying right?

Idk how many times I need to say this: there is multiple boards dedicated to anime.

Why can't you post there, instead of a thread intended for simulations. Its just annoying as fuck to check the thread and see 15 new posts, 12 of them are just pictures of anime girls. I mean come on.
>>
>>160861893
Because they do it specifically to get a rise out of people. They're in the same vein as furries, except on a website founded on anime they find a way to legitimise themselves in any thread.
Not that I want them here either, fucking weebs can do one, but reacting gives them what they want, which is to reply with smug anime girls.

Me and Sol tried REALLY HARD to get some X-Wing vs TIE Fighter Ops going, because I still have a CD copy of that game + Balance of Power campaigns, but none of the softwares we used seem to work. We tried EVOLVE and Hamachi plus some other shit but none work.

Please, if you have any idea of how to get that game to work in the 21st century, tell us!

Because MWO is complete fucking garbage and the sooner that game dies the sooner we can start the 10 year cycle of waiting for somebody to buy the license and take another stab at trying to revive Battletech. PGI were in the PERFECT position. Literally everything was stacked in their favor, and not only are they so incompetent that they make Gaijin look like saviors of the flight sim genre, but they completely threw away the most perfect opportunity to revive mech games as a genre by fucking up MWO so hard that nobody is ever going to want to touch one for at least another decade. They have no excuse.

Fuck PGI. Fuck MWO. Fuck this gay Earth for shitting so hard on my favorite genre of games that I might be dead before the next good one comes out, because MWO was that bad.

Actually both Steam and GOG sell X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (and the rest of X-Wing series with all the versions). They are supposed to work in modern software at least in windows 7, not sure about windows 10, though.

FS2 is still the benchmark that I measure all space sims to. It's too bad Volition is too busy cranking out Saints Row games to revisit and finish the series. They had a stream about a year back with the Project Overload Kickstarter and I was surprised to find out that many of the dudes who worked on Freespace are actually still there. They had some really cool stories to share about the game's development.
>>
>>160919645
>Isn't it stupidly short tho?
It is short, yeah but I think it's a game that's easy to replay, especially with the new hard mode. The core gameplay is just really fun, and if you get it on sale I think it's a fair price.

While I agree with you, I'm still having legitimate fun with this game, but my love for battle tech goes far back into my childhood with Mechwarrior 3 and 4 being some of the first games I played. So maybe I'm just having nostalgia.

Regardless, PGI is so hilariously incompetent they seem to have lost touch and don't know their own game anymore.

I will admit they have markedly improved the game since I last played though, which was a little bit after beta ended.

Either way, I'm having fun.

Depends on your definition of fun and what you want out of your racing sim. Personally I don't care for it, but I know a lot of people like it.

If you don't care about online and like driving around by yourself then you might like AC. I don't know how the AI is these days but it was really bad when I last played against them seriously.

AC also has the most mods out of any recent racing sim.

Nowhere near. The fire control systems on the longbow alone aren't even close to being matched by the Russians. Russian equipment also still largely lack FLIR sensors and other vital equipment for situational awareness.

Nevermind the continued absence of fire-and-forget missiles like the hellfire, which on their own are a massive advantage.

Russia hasn't had any equipment that was as good as their western equivalents since the 70's. They've always been inferior and only posed a threat because of their ability to zerg rush.

Rest assured that the Russians are years behind when it comes to the most sophisticated military aerospace systems - communications, networking and sensor fusion.

But other than that, it's pretty hard to fuck up an attack helicopter. Partly the reason there are so many indigenous ones out there developed by very small companies.

Hey guys, recently got into DCS (and Flight Sims in general) and have been enjoying flying around in the SU-25t.

With the Steam sale, I figure it's the perfect time to buy a new module. I'm kinda leaning either towards Flaming Cliffs or The A-10C.

Any advice you have for a rookie would be greatly appreciated.

>>
>>160940014
FC3 is the easiest to get into. It's more planes with the fidelity of the free Su-25T and is a good value in terms of the wide variety of roles all the planes in FC3 fill. FC3 is a good sampler to help you figure out what you like doing in DCS.

If you want to go balls deep and get into the most complex module in DCS and you don't mind flying slow, being a literal meme, and only being to plink at tanks then go ahead with the A-10. It's got the most content out of all the modules as well.
