Since Nost gonna release the source code soon to the public, there's a chance that more and more Nost like realms will be born, not to mention that already existing realms will integrate some of the code. So there's a chance that there will be a change in the future in terms of quality in the vanilla server scene.

Thus there's no reason to have one general to be dedicated for one server, but rather for all vanilla servers, since later on, people might scatter around many different realms.

Warlocks and druids can both level quite easily, with Warlocks being able to tackle great challenges solo. Priests are harder to level, but you'll usually be in high demand in dungeons.

You download a .rar of the game with 1.12 patch then open the file named realmlist.wtf in notepad or some other text editor - changing it to the private server's location. Make an account on that server's site and then log on. Pretty easy.

The only real "grind" in vanilla is leveling from 1-60. But vanilla is radically different from WotLK, and not even remotely the same game as Legion.

Personally I find leveling in vanilla a lot of fun. When new servers launch the "race" to be one of the first people to level 60 is awesome. Even if you don't want to rush, the experience of having hundreds of people in all of the leveling zones grouping up and killing shit is really fun.

So I wouldn't consider leveling 1-60 a grind unless you've done it before in vanilla a few times. If it's your first time it's just you playing the game and having fun. The game is just completely different from the other expansions, it's something you need to experience to understand.

Yea I figured leveling would be awful. I remember leveling on retail from 1-80 and thinking it was breddy gud, 80-85 became stale, 85-90 was a slog and 90 to 110 (quit after a month of MoP) was honestly like the worst experience. I'm still not even geared for raids since I'm playing casually and the shit literally never ends. I'm imagining leveling Vanilla is worse than all the previous experiences combined. You're in luck. Nost 2.0 / Ely will be able to provide that experience (once they're merged and online again), as all of their servers are still heading towards AQ at the furthest. If you start leveling a character from scratch there's little doubt that you'll be raiding before Naxx is released.

Having said that, some of the guilds are insanely good at what they do and will clear the content surprisingly fast. Plenty of other guilds won't though.

Never play with people from this general. 90% of it is old fags lurking and answering questions who are going to be playing but on random guilds like everyone else. The thread guilds are always a clusterfuck of drama, ironic trap posting, and furries that never get anything done.

Vanilla leveling is harder in a different way. You will only ever pull one mob at a time and it'll take away a good 20-30% of your health if you are melee (hence why mage and frost are a godsend because you are never hit). Out of combat regeneration almost doesn't exist. Everyone takes up first aid and searches for food in treasure chests and off mobs. But it's still 1-60, so each level feels more impactful. Reaching 10, 20, 30, etc. feel outstanding. And every two levels you get a talent. And you'll see people the entire way. The general chat will be active and funny and retarded. PvP will happen in a lot of zones and everyone will end up fighting in a giant mob because 45 minutes ago one rogue ganked some no name and it snowballed out of control.

End game content is completely different. You spend time questing and doing dungeons trying to get you dungeon gear set aka tier zero. They take so much time that you'll end up doing them with your guild and people actually try and give a damn. Voice chat is everywhere. Professions actually matter. Also PvE gear is the only gear essentially for PvP, so you'll start getting retardedly powerful.

All in all it's fucking great.

Don't join a /vg/ guild. They're always awful. Vanilla is more like an mmorpg instead of an action rpg with lobbies like retail, so don't expect to completely destroy mobs solo. Everything is slower. Can someone explain to me how does everyone in MMOs level their characters and grind for gold and get equipment and shit so fast?

When I played DDO, you could reincarnate your character and start from lvl1 for added bonuses for example, and people did it and got to max level really fast, while I was still just grinding some of the first max level raids, and in WoW everyone seemed to have gold for everything while I was barely making ends meet, what's wrong with me?

Questing guides are a thing. My original, retail Vanilla pally took about 3-4 months to level. The next one I made in 6 days /played on Kronos.

As for gold, some options are more profitable than others. Herbalism and Black Lotus is probably the most profitable, but will most likely be insanely camped by turbo autists. Second I think is mining for Arcane Crystals and Mithril bars. Some people say Fishing is an excellent money maker but they haven't backed it with any proof: if I had to guess, I'd say it's because of all the essences you can fish.

It's the typical result of late capitalism: all of them sold for almost nothing, while the high end ones (i.e. kuroiren) sold for a shitload.

This is because of industrial farming that both flooded the market that could've been moderately lucrative normal non-industrial farmers, and controlled the market of high end herbs.

So the end result is that industrial farmers get paid regardless of how low priced the common herbs are, and the normal farmers don't have access to high end herbs because the statistics are in favor of the industrial farmers getting them.

You can't really. Either you're going to only ever be making gear inferior to your own, or you're going to be heavily slowing down your leveling in order to keep your BS up to par.

Not really, but most crafting professions aren't all that great until you've already hit 60. Check the economy of the server too. If mats are all selling for high prices then it'll be worth going to two gathering professions while leveling. If they're selling cheaply, then there's no real harm in picking a crafting profession and sinking some of your extra funds into it while you level. It'll slow your leveling down, but it is fun.

If you're going to play as a warrior then get first aid. Bandages are a great use for your extra cloth.

BS is super hard to level and you'll be constantly scraping for cash at the early levels. If you're not prepared, you won't be able to afford every skill you can buy every 2 levels due to lack of cash (not that you should buy every skill, some are only useful at 60).

Go for gathering professions, preferably skinning - it'll pay for itself very easily. Alternatively level to 60 asap, that will open for you more money gathering activities in the form of farming places.

Plan is Herbing\Alch until I can buy an epic mount drop herb for engineering.
Level an alt with herbing and prob eng.

As someone who started in Wrath, then spent a year playing Vanilla, my main issue with Vanilla is that there are several specs that are complete jokes and so many options are absolutely not viable.

The fact that Prot Warriors are the only tanks and shit like that really turned me off.

I didn't get any of the Vanilla hype until it started raining in Westfall for the first time. The game feels like an actual RPG while you're leveling. the reason tanks die on progression isn't incoming DPS, it's incoming burst

dwarf armor and tauren HP are the only relevant mitigation racials, though orcs have godlike threat with deathbringer and crul'shorukh (trolls also have great threat since as a tank you can usually get the full haste buff from being damaged)

True, I never did like trying to get a group for Scarlet Monestary as alliance, since it was a pain in the ass to make a group. that and RFK and Shadowfang keep. Shame i'll miss deadmines.
