First, Saadia's age. She appears to me to be in her mid to late 30s, maybe early 40s. The Great War began in 4E 171, 30 years before TESV, which would make her pretty darn young to be selling out a city (whatever that means, since no proof is given). So, she'd have to be at least 50 years old to be in some sort of authority position at the time (20+ yo) to be giving military/logistical secrets of an entire city to the Thalmor (betraying her family House Suda I might add). Yeah, I don't think she looks 50+ either. However, if she's in her late 30s/early 40s, it would make more chronological sense if she was speaking out against the Dominion in occupied Taneth for the remainder of the decade until the Second Treaty of Stros M'Kai, almost 10 years later in 4E 180. That would put her between late teens and early 20s by then.

But what about the Alik'r? Well, they're mercenaries. They'll do whatever is needed for the highest bidder. They may have a code of conduct or honor, but they could still have been hired by the Thalmor.

Other questions abound. Why would Saadia have sought asylum in the Empire instead of the Dominion if she helped the Thalmor? If the nobles of Taneth wanted her for treason, couldn't they have gone through official channels to pursue and extradite a fugitive, even if Hammerfell isn't in the Empire? Let's not forget that Taneth had 20 years to pursue her through legal means, whereas if she spoke out against the Thalmor during the occupation and escaped, the Thalmor would be forced to use their only means of exploring the Imperial provinces (through spies and mercs). It makes much more sense that it takes 20 years for mercenaries to find a woman than any state-sanctioned search. After all, the Thalmor were only recently allowed access to Skyrim to put down the Talos cult worship so they couldn't directly search for her. They use spies (Gissur) and assassins (Shavari, J'Datharr) anyway, so why not mercenaries?

So why didn't she stay in Hammerfell? She probably did, but she's been running ever since, hence why she "can't keep running forever" as she says when you decide to betray her to Kematu. Maybe that's where she got her scar, in some sort of altercation with her pursuers ages ago. That's a bit of speculation on my part, but it makes more sense that she's fled further and further into Imperial lands than Aldmeri if she spoke out against the Dominion.

In the end, the Alik'r close in on her, believing her to be in Whiterun, and choose to shack up with unscrupulous characters since they apparently can't all stay in an inn. There are so many of them because they've been covering large swaths of land in search of her. If you betray her, there's no indication that they wouldn't just show her body to the Thalmor instead of marching her back to Hammerfell.

A minor point people make is that she switches from not knowing the Alik'r are in the city to referring the LDB to one that's in the city jail. It's not stated whether that particular warrior was caught in the city of Whiterun or not, so I don't consider it particularly compelling evidence against Saadia.

The Alik'r show up in Skyrim with no hard proof of her crimes or writ of execution or anything. That's all I can think of at this point in her defense, but I'd say there's definitely enough ambiguity and lack of information or evidence to warrant that a potentially innocent, near defenseless woman shouldn't be left in the hands of belligerent mercenaries of questionable motive.

I didn't play any real PC games for the longest time, I was a console gamer except for MMOs on PC (NexusTK, RO, and WoW) and some TF2. Early on in the PS3/Xbox 360 era I started playing more PC games. By the time Skyrim came out, I was 95% PC (with only a PS3/4 for certain games).

I still haven't played any of the really classic RPGs that I feel like I should, nor even beaten Morrowind/Oblivion.

If I quit WoW and got a better attention span I might be able to actually finish a video game.

Not really worth modding yet until more mods come out for it. Recently FNIS got released for the special edition but right now, SKSE still needs to be ported.

SE on it's own doesn't add much to Skyrim at all. The only thing that's new would be improved performance and volumetric godrays.

if you're a pc player (and you got it for free) then it's good because it fixes most of skyrim's technical limitations that we were having with modding. as soon as we get a script extender developed, the SE will be the definitive modding platform for skyrim.

One thing is that the 4GB RAM limit is a thing of the past so now the only limit is however much RAM you physically have in your rig. Also, SSE is running on DX11 rather than DX9 and they put some stuff that you used to have use ENB for into the native code so that increases game stability.

With Immersive Patrols installed looking for aftermath of battles and looting the dead soldiers could be pretty profitable in the early game. Just in that pile there are a dozen Stormcloaks, including an officer, a few Imperials, three Thalmors, a Thalmor prisoner, and I probably missed other corpses laying around. With Iron and Steel weapons, Elven armor, some gold and food.

If I took everything, I could probably get somewhere around 2000 gold. Maybe 3000. Considering it's literally free money, that's not bad at all. Not worth doing once you get to higher levels and can routinely get Ebony loot, but still.

Ordinator has some lovely support for battlemaging. Toss on apocolypse spells and maybe any other spell mod that grabs your fancy that is also compatible and you're golden.

Also using 2h and magic isn't really the battlemage style. 1h melee and 1h spell is the usual style unless you need both hands for a spell.

I liked using one AND two handed only because I got bored and switched every other dungeon delve I did because ADD. I think I could be ok with just one handed and a spell/shield in offhand though. I'll trying using Spellblade as a search this time for ideas.

They do worldbuilding/lore well, and they do exploration excellently (even if what you come across is frequently mediocre, they certainly drive the urge to explore). Ease of use and support for lots of games. Other than that, MO/manual/Bash are clearly better options. I used NMM for the longest time because I couldn't be assed to update my mods manually and didn't want to convert to MO when I had 200+ hour saves that I didn't want to fuck up on accident. Skyrim is terrible videogame from a design view. The thing it does best is give the players tons of things to do, no matter how boring, repetitive, tedious, or pointless they are.

Even Morrowind is not better than a 7/10, and again, it's because it has tons of shit to do.

By comparison, Gothic is a 9/10. It's a much smaller, much more focused game, but it's better in almost every regard.

My plan is to make a Spellsword build that has many options on the magical front but none of them are high level. Jack of All Trades type mage that will always have decent light armor and one handed. Is this not great in Skyrim? Should I focus on only two types of magic?

Sounds fine. Alteration for some extra armor from stoneskin or whateverskin, auto cast in combat thanks to ocatos recital. Fireball in the left hand, heal if needed. Conjuration, eh not really needed, but I guess you could go the bound weapon route, at least for early game. Maybe late game too with the right mods.

It boils down to believability. No one talks like people do in Morrowind. The way NPCs talk is mechanical, implausible, the dialogue is downright terrible. I can easily write more believable conversations, and I'm not even bragging. I just need to stay out of Mary Sue territory (something the LGNPC project isn't able to), and there you go. New Vegas is also extremely quotable, something I just can't say about Morrowind.

Planescape: Torment has outstanding writing because every NPC feels alive, and it relies on written text just like Morrowind does.

Oh, dear. It would take me way too long to explain everything done wrong in Skyrim, so I'll just mention a few things:

- Exploration works only because the locations look nice. Otherwise it would be crap: there's no good loot to be had, no good quests, no nothing. Morrowind is pretty much the same, except you can find cool items in the different caves/tombs/shrines.
- Guild questlines are terrible. They all rely on you to become the savior, and the speed at which you progress through them is laughably poorly paced.
- Combat is boring, repetitive, fights take forever sometimes. Morrowind has this problem too, with dicerolling combat being infuriating when failing, but pleasant when succeeding.
- Quests are boring (barely any has anything of interest to it), repetitive (tons of radiant fetch quests, and fetch quests that may as well be radiant). For the most part, you don't have any say in how to complete a quest.
- The world barely reacts to your actions.
- The writing is pathetic.
- Essential NPCs means we need mods to solve quests like the Paarthurnax vs Blades one in a manner that should have been there to begin with. Except that instead of "hurr durr I'm Dragonborn, fear me", I would have just killed Delphine & co. and be over with it.

In summary: the only good things Skyrim does is give you tons of things to do. Nothing else.

Elder Scrolls games survive for so long thanks to mods, else I'm pretty sure this general just wouldn't exist.

The game feels a bit too easy with a follower already so summoning things isn't really needed I think. I do not plan to use summoned weapons, no. Conjuration would only be for summoning things to tank and shit. Illusion seems helpful but I'm not a sneak so I counted that out. Basic ass Restoration was tottally fine for me too.

Is it a bad thing if I use spells from all of the magic fields but I only actually perk destruction and restoration or something? I know the rest will remain semi weak but that's fine if they help even a tiny bit.

There's only one NPC suffering from the Morrowind syndrome, and that's Easy Pete (no joke, that's the worst NPC in New Vegas BY FAR).

Everyone else is cool. Problem with Morrowind is that 95% of its NPCs have to be copy-pasted NPCs, they have no personality of any kind, and it's hard to make NPCs feel believable when every single one of them spits out the same lines over and over again.

the problem with New Vegas NPCs is that they just matter of factly tell you everything in ways that sound completly unreal.

Every NPc you ask about the NCr/LEgion situation basically rattles off the same

Everything in NV is blunt, dry, and matter of fact. People talk more like they are reading things about the world out of an atlas then actually talking to you like people.

I hear that with apocalypse Alteration is great utility. That's how I plan to use it, not only for more defense. Ideally...destruction is far and medium range, one handed is close range then light armor is for defensive purposes and Alteration/Illusion/ Blacksmithing OR Enchanting not both, would be utility...so a bit of everything already mentioned.

Ordinator's really good, adds some cool utility for "thief" perks and makes magic way more interesting and viable. There's a perk branch under Alteration specifically for spellswords. Pic related for an example, next perk is similar but it has a armor reduction radius instead

Hi /tesg/

I was getting into combat stuff with the guide on tesgeneral, and I was wondering if I could have a second opinion on the recommended mods DUEL and Ultimate Combat. UC apparently adds some new stuff like dodging, while DUEL focuses on making the game more difficult. I just wanted to ask anyone around what they personally think of these mods, and which they would recommend higher.

Just going off the descriptions, DUEL sounds a little more my jam, since I want really brutal combat that isn't going to make me slap a spider with a mace for 10 minutes while it's health is whittled down on Legendary, because that's boring.

Duel turns the game into a blocking simulator.

Set the difficulty back to Expert or whatever, get UC, Revenge of the Enemies, Vigor, Attack Commitment, TK Dodge, and SkyTweak. That last one will let you find tune the difficulty of the game without turning enemies into sponges.

Lock On works well with the above mods but not everybody's into that mechanic.

Yes and no. You could be leader of a pretty big number of guilds. An implausible number, like the other TES ones..

..but not all of them. Some conflicted. Some were overt about this - you join ONE Great House, and it's for life. You don't get to leave Redoran and join Hlaalu. You can't give up on Hlaalu to be a mushroom wizard.

Others were covert. The FG and TG in Morrowind were opposed in Morrowind, with the local Morrowind gang, the Cammona Tong, having it's hooks in the FG and using them to fuck up the TG. You -could- resolve that conflict as a member of both guilds.. but without a guide it's much more likely that you end up having to choose one. It takes footwork to keep from having to pick a side.

On top of all that, every single guild had promotion ranks and each rank required certain degrees of competancy with certain skills they felt embodied their organization. You are not getting to be Master Wizard of House Telvanni without knowing magic. Your ass is likely not even going to SEE a Master Wizard of House Telvanni without magic because they don't have stairs - you learn to levitate or you don't work in their wizard towers, end of story.

It's a terrible shame they abandoned that whole system. It added more flavor, forced separate playthroughs (at least three, if you want to see all the Great House quests), and kept the MC from being this schizophrenic mess who is saving puppies in one guild and drowning them in the next.

The problem with no having level scaling is three fold

1. Having set loot just creates an environment were people are encouraged to go online, and look up the locations of "the best gear", and then sneak/exploit their way too it, which not only ruins any sort of difficulty in the game, but also makes further exploration pointless because you already have the best gear.

2. When everything has a preset level, especially in large open world games like TES, where you can basically go to any major city easily, it forces the devs to make the majority of locations in-game be set to a very low level, since they have to account for any possible place you might go at level 1. This in turn makes the game like Morrowind, where like 80% of the dungeons were set for a level 1-10 character, and makes exploring places past those level ranges pointless, since loot will always be pre-set really low.

3. The only way to solve problem 2 without having to resort ot level scailing is by turning the world into basically an MMO, with a preset leveling path, which only ruins replayabiltiy since you are forced to play the same content in the same order, every time.

Level scaling solves all these problems by
1. Keeping the beast gear out of player's hands until they are leveled for it, making it far harder to cheese the game

2. Makes it to where every dungeon always gives level appropriate loot, so you have some reason to explore every place, since you know you wont be stuck getting level 1-10 loot in most dungeons in the game like Morrowind

3. It allows the devs to make the game world open, allowing for are more replayability, as you can tackle content in basically any order you want.

There is literally no reason to not have level scaling.

morrowind may have had questionable writing and run of the mill quests but the setting and exploration were absolutely top notch. it rewarded you for going off the beaten path with lots of interesting locations and navigating the world with the paper map was one of the most immersive gaming experiences ive ever had.

What features other than subsurface scattering are absolutely necessary? Most ENBs did not fully utilize weathers, shadows are fine in SE, SE has DoF (that can be tweaked with ENB though), volumetric lighting is better than any ENB hacked together lighting that butchered frame rates.

Shitty ENBs don't utilize weathers that well. But with any decent configured ENB, you have the ability to manipulate weathers to your liking. Plus SSS is a huge thing to give up if you like good lighting.

Alternate Start Live Another Life to not have to sit through the shitty intro
Frostfall and Campfires to make traveling actually interesting instead of a boring "walk from point A to point B"
Static Mesh Improvement Mod will fix a lot of issues with fucked up models and textures from Bethesda being lazy fucks.
Amazing Follower Tweaks just got ported, so now you can have multiple followers.
Look at the Player Homes section on nexus to find a home that looks good. Vanilla homes are ok at best.
Get body replacers when they come out. You don't have to get nude mods but get a body that replaces the vanilla diapers with something less retarded looking.
Relationship Dialogue Overhaul will make characters not repeat themselves constantly by giving them more lines using the vanilla voices and lots of dummied out content.
And of course get the 3D sound mod on nexus so you get proper positional sound for your game.

I would also recommend these but they're not essential:
Realistic Legendary Damage will boost damage so that combat is realistically lethal. When you play on Legendary you and NPCs deal shitloads of damage, getting rid of the damage sponge problem.
Ars Metallica will make crafting less shit by letting you craft more shit and melt down more shit.
Realistic Lighting Overhaul makes the lighting better overall but makes dungeon interiors DARK. Like pitch-black. I like this because it makes proper lights (torches, spells, etc.) actually matter but it's not for everyone.

Genuinely high quality SSAO (SE's is a muddy joke), parallax, and real time reflections (this is huge to me.) There's a huge list of visuals ENB adds but those are the few that are really irreplaceable.

Of course, the memory features are still great. Already seeing a lot of blackface from users with SE. ENB alleviated that by temporarily using RAM and VRAM. On GPUs with less VRAM, users are going to occasionally see texture anomalies as of right now with SE.

Need some help.

Did a lot of mesh texture swapping shit in classic and now I'm trying again in sse.

I just swapped from unpb to tiddiesmcbutt and this has happened. I have never seen this weird hair issue before.

It's doubly strange because it only affects myself and my followers. Ran around whitenrun all the female NPCs look as they should with the new body and armors.

Even more frustrating is that when I console showracemenu to put my hair back, it reverts back to bald after I reload.

I have tried dismissing/killing/reading my followers and that didn't seem to fix them either.


Any ideas? The new body mesh I installed didn't come with a head. I tried both keeping my previous head and deleting any head references in the meshes folder and still get this.

There's no esp for the body mod so nothing in my load order has changed.

I made a new character and she came in fine, tested with multiple armors etc etx, seems to be just affecting my previous save.

Is there a way to do a cleaner install for body mods? I have just left to run some errands so I can't try till I'm back but I was gonnna go back to a save with my old mod and clear up my meshes folder. Rest for 31 days then try install again.

Other than that I'm not sure what else to try, ideas anons?

Nah man, I'm with you. Played maybe six hours of it a few years ago after getting skyrim to see what it was about and didn't get into it, but played through it earlier this year and fucking loved it.

Honestly I think Morrowind is such a good RPG because of how slow it is. Moving slowly makes the destinations more rewarding, and with having to read through all the dialogue actually going questing felt great. Even the very first mages guild fetch quest got me exploring a whole area because returning it wasn't going to be exactly easy, unless I went straight back down the path I came which i never like doing.

I've actually done a similar thing this time with skyrim. Slowed the movement speed down to speedmult 70 and added tk dodge for combat, because slower movement is a deathwish otherwise, got rid of the compass completely and are using the map/clairvoyance to find things.

Absolutely not. Modded Skyrim can be very rewarding - part of this is finding a good perk overhaul, SPERG turns you into a monster and Ordinator is quite specific in how you want to play the game. If you don't have a clear character playstyle in mind before playing with Ordinator, you're not going to get as much out of it.

But it also felt like enemies meant something since nearly every dungeon was filled with named bandits so you were fighting nameless shmucks. It's such a shame that Bethesda made their settlements so small. The wind "district" in Whiterun is just 1 or 2 houses. You'd expect a district to be at least 6 houses I should think. Mods kind of fix it, but it's just not as good as it would've been if Bethesda fixed it themselves.

When I first found the ebony mine south-southeast of balmora was when I was hooked. Level 5 or so against three flame atronachs, had a stolen silver claymore and a few spell scrolls along with the lightning spell you can buy from arrile in seyda neen, only just got through that place and sold

Learnt that they were actually immune to fire, figured out the spells were more effect than the weapon, used up the scrolls I had, but sold the shit out of that ebony ore for a profit and got better gear

I don't want to interrupt the discussion but I genuinely love Skyrim's cities.

They are a bit too small but they're extremely distinct both visually, culturally, and in their layout. Markarth, Whiterun, Windhelm, Riften, Solitude are all great albeit a bit too small.

The only cities that are bad are the smaller hold cities like Falkreath and Dawnstar, etc.

THey're okay in terms of visual design, but other than Markarth they're all just... plain. They're just regular buildings for the most part but nordic. And that's just too normal. In Morrowind you'd get buildings built of the shells of giant crabs, with flagpoles created from discarded legs. Even the means of transportation was different from the norm. Heck, even playing ESO gave me a taste of the kind of architecture I craved when I peared upon the argonian households, which all looked like big balls of mud with stick windows carved in them.

I think you guys are dumb lol. We didn't know what dunmer architecture and culture looked like. So with Morrowind they could do whatever. But we've known about Nords for a long time. We've always know that the NORDS are NORDic. I think the artstyles we got is very tasteful. Having Windhelm be made entirely out of Mammoth tusks and dragon bones would have looked dumb and felt dumb.

What're the best mods that change the visuals and sounds of spells that a toaster can handle /tesg/?

Two things that bug me are the visual for paralysis (yeah I know it's not illusion anymore but I'd like to pretend it is with a handwave that freezes them without the gay green tentacle thing that wraps around them) and the sound for muffle (ironically the loudest most piercing sound of any spell. Probably as a punishment for anyone grinding illusion with it because of the low cost for an adept level spell.)

Legendary is Master, and iirc yeah, it just makes you take more damage and enemies take less. Doesn't really make it rewarding. One odd thing I remember reading is it makes equilibrium worthless because it drains more health than it gives magicka.

He's a spellsword that isn't a spellsword. A warrior most of the time who whips off the armour and fights spellcasters in a belted tunic. So uses all combat and magic skills but illusion and rarely uses alteration. Specialised to a small extend in all the elements in destruction and all two handed weapons so they do things the weapons would logically do but aren't too OP by memedinator.

Recently she learned to use Destruction (Wind & Lightning is her favorite) and Alteration (As utility) but has also dabbled in Restoration, Illusion and Enchanting. Before she arrived in Skyrim, when she lived with her magic-shunning clansmen, she was adept with One Handed and Block while wearing Light Armor for ease of Berserking with passable skill in Two Handed.

She was a pretty vanilla Orsimer berserker-warrior before discovering magic wasn't 'cursed' and it was actually, in fact, fucking awesome.

She now specializes in: One Handed, Destruction, Alteration & Enchanting with a minor focus on Block, Illusion and Restoration and remains mediocre in Two Handed and can still Berserk Rage.

As a main series game? No. As a spin off maybe.

It would probably have more focus on the customization and rp elements, but you lose all of your personal story telling and interesting screenshot potential by going isometric.

Nah, other than replacing the DoF, the only thing I did was up the Vibrance and Contrast a tiny bit, and replace the Subsurface Scattering settings with the ones from Rampage

My colours change pretty dramatically depending on the weather and time of day but I've tried to get a nice realistic but stylized look. I use True storms though not vivid weathers or CoT so if you use either of those i don't know how my preset will react to that.

Thanks, anon. I'm pretty please with it and i haven't found an area, time of day or weather were i don't like it so i think i'm done with it.

Dat armour though, I'm pretty jealous of oldrim players that can use all the old mods i'm waiting for but i cant be fucked remodding my old skyrim now. You should totally upload that armour set to SSE nexus though, it's sexy as fuck.
