friends aren't inherently bad but they always have been since the classics. in sonic 3 you could play as sonics friends tails and knuckles who aren't members of "sonics shitty friends". they all played in the same levels with the same basic controls but with different abilities which made them fun different ways to play the game. now move on to the 3d games. most characters have completely different gameplay often with their own levels built around them. add a lack of polish to that and you have a complete clusterfuck of half broken mostly dull gameplay with bursts of fun that usually come from sonic stages. now people want all the bullshit to go away and instead they only want the fun stuff, the blame gets shifted onto the characters themselves instead of the way they are implemented.

what they should do instead is to make sonics friends all have the same base as sonic and play in the same levels but with different abilities. this wouldn't really work with modern boost sonic though but it would work great in open ended games like green hill paradise or utopia

shadow was cool in adventure 2 but then they went off the rails with him which actually happened because of how popular he was at the time. he still has a place in the franchise if you can get over the past but i understand how he can be iredeemable to some people based on how bad the past was.

That's disappointing. I'm sick of seeing old zones reused for "Hey guys, remember how awesome this old game was? Here's a level from it!" Iizuka admitted (I think at SoS) he was worried going into the big party about how Mania would be received. He was surprised by the huge positive response.

So, yeah, the remix stuff feels to me like they wanted a giant safety net in case new levels don't fare too well. I like think if the new zones are positively received when the game comes out, we could see a full-on Mania 2 with no remixed levels.

That said, the level choices are apparently going to be less tame choices, so I am interested to see what they choice and how they remix it.

To be fair the reasonable people that did not like Classic in Gens did have some fair points. There was no real momentum, running down a slop and then turning into a ball slowed you down for example, which was a result of the physics engine being made with Modern Sonic in mind and Classic's game mode was more like a mod than anything else.

As for Sonic 4, while I did like both episodes, they felt like they were smaller budget games made with phones in mind that suddenly got ported to consoles, got a big name slapped on to them, got marketing which hyped up people's expectations to higher than they should have been.

If they were just "Sonic: Subtitle" and not hyped up anywhere near as much I think people would think that they're alright. Not good, not bad, just alright.

Lost World is almost a good game but fails in some critical ways which keeps it from being such.

>Characters-
Sonic and Tails aren't particularly great in it. Sonic keeps fucking up and lamenting his fuck ups. Tails is a whiny self absorbed dick who is uncomfortably angsty.

The Zeti are an interesting concept but each and every one can be boiled down to a really transparent obvious stereotype and all the dialogue is really corny.
Eggman, Cubot and Orbot are the only characters that don't bug me in that game.

>Gameplay

The thing that irks me the most about this game, is that if it had better momentum and sonic was faster it'd actually have really nice controls. The run button is superfluous and unnecessary but I do like the idea of idling while holding the run button causes him to peelout (if only he'd actually zoom off instead of slowly run forward). I like that they brought back the sonic spin too, although it's a bit too exploitable.

Sonic doing a flip in midair is better than the forward dash. It allows you to gain altitude and gives you more control over your landing. Homing attack feels very springy and nice but it's also really finicky at times and often kills your momentum.
Parkour works fine enough though.

I would speed sonic up. Considerably, and add moderate momentum based controls so that you can go out of attacks like spin dash and homing attack and keep your momentum. Also gain speed by going down hills.

I'd change the Zeti slightly to simply take them a BIT more seriously than one note characters. I'd also want more interactions between each other or with sonic. I'd remove a lot of the unnecessary angst in the script.

Also a multiplayer mode would be fun. Like just a couple of minigames or something. Unlike boost gameplay I feel like Lost world gameplay lends itself a lot better to other sonic characters and they could easily make a lost world tails knuckles or amy.

tl;dr, She's optimistic and doesn't let the fact she is half machine get to her, in fact she's proud, you can't get back what you lost but goddamn you can do your best with what you got left, is the message from that rebuilding the house issue.
