How do I perform tight turns in these prop planes? I'm used to shit like Ace Combat where I just drop my speed and bank but it doesn't seem to work very well in this game. Most of the time if another player gets on my ass I'm fucked.

Set aileron and elevator controls to arrow keys and learn when to deploy flaps. If you have a very maneuverable plane, deploying combat flaps and manually using the elevator will make it turn tight, but you always want to get rid of the guy behind with in as little turns as possible (for many planes this doesn't apply though, for some outright running away is the best defensive action).

Another general strategy on not getting fucked is staying above your opponent and only attacking once you're sure there are no other enemies nearby that could dive after you get engaged in combat. This way you can decide when to engage.

Are you playing simulator? If so then yes, you aim trough the physical sights.

Also regarding the plane you selected, it's not a good plane for outright turnfighting (most US planes aren't as well), with these you should build speed and altitude and take passes at your opponents, always making sure you have enough speed to distance yourself quickly after each pass.

You shouldn't be turning in most of those planes. Come in from high altitude, shoot at them, and if you miss shallow dive away until you have >2.5 km distance, then start climbing a little bit and try again.

You get a 60 min test drive which starts immediately after you open the box, there's no option of choosing when to use it like with boosters. The game gives you a prompt screen to train a crew for the plane like you just bought it and you can use it for the next hour. You get to keep all gains you earn with it and when the time expires the game generously offers you to buy it.

You can switch the view in the options and should do so ASAP. In arcade plane performance doesn't really matter as long as you're not flying a bomber and carry heavy guns it will get the job done.

You should stick to arcade only until you get familiar with the basics, by tier II-III you should switch to realistic. Arcade can be good for grinding kills for events that require them every so often, but is a clusterfuck otherwise where individual (or team) performance has absolutely no impact on the results of the match unless you fly a mid-heavy bomber.
