They get -20 or -40 with you depending on if they share the base form as you.
Like if you're both Mammalian.

The gaia planet is safe I think.
Try colonizing that one and see how much worse your relations get from border friction before colonizing the other.

Indirectly. It affects how happy pops are, which in turn affects their faction-ability.

Well, that's the theory. In practice factions do nothing, ever, so you can let divergance run out of control and it won't cost you a thing. The only faction that ever revolts is slave factions, which is the one that isn't connected to happiness. And even then the slave revolts are pushovers that won't cause you any trouble.

So, the epic time is completly broken.

I'm not even trying to get the scientific victory, yet I'm already in the modern world in the 16th century. The game really needs a fix.
>>
>>159122925

You can skip a lot of techs and reach the atomic era at the XI century if you really want. It's pretty broke yeah.

Also, the devs, in their insurmountable faggotry, completely forgot the fact that most of the advances Europe did during the XVI-XIX century, both scientific and culturally, were due to how much we hated each other's guts and wanted to surpass the other. Right now warring is the worse you can do to advance quickly.

Put into perspective, the Roman world practically stayed the same for almost 5 centuries thanks to being a big, seemingly indestructible colossus that didn't have any real competition except the parthians and the sassanids.

a heretic is generally someone who doesn't believe or opposes catholicism
are there terms for people who oppose islam, judaism, buddhism etc? These religions must have a term that is similar
>>
>>159123710

Total scientific techs: 69

Techs boosted by killing something: 6, all of then achievable against barbarians

Total cultural techs: 50

Techs boosted by killing something: 2, and once again all of then you can get then by killing barbarians.

My point stands, going to war against other civs is the worse you can do to advance in the tech trees, contrary to what history has shown time and time again.

Christian also used the term "unbeliever", but it was more toward atheists.
Heretics were really people that actively went against Christianism and tried to harm it, while unbelievers were passive. Heretics were actively hunted down, while unbelievers were not considered humans.

Fun fact : it was one of the excuses given to justify the slaughter of the americans natives, as it was said that only promises between christians were worth anything.

>>159125521
Why are you fucking americans?
>>
>>159124774
Heresy is like an offshoot from a religion. Protestants are heretics to the Catholic church. Shiites are heretics to Sunnis.
Someone that believes in an entirely different religion has different names but they all roughly mean the same. Infidel, heathen or pagan.

Infidel is what catholics called muslims isn't it? At least originated by catholics. Nowadays muslims use it for non muslims

War isn't but competition is, and Syria lacks the infrastructure to do anything anyway.
AI and computers were originally miltary (computers more pure math) and chemistry got a huge boost from government funding to get weaponry.

Not just the Englishes.
The Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors did it too, to justify Atahualpa's murder despite the ransom being paid.

Heretics generally claim to be the same religion but disagree on key points while heathens are just a different religion.

This thread is becoming dangerous.
>>
>>159125918

I dunno about the portuguese, but in law, since almost the very beginning of the conquest, the kings of Castille deemed the natives as royal subjects and as such, they required to be treated the same as an spaniard. The Catholic kings tried to further enhance this by encouraging mixed matrimonies bettwen the natives and the spaniards, which ave birth to the tradition of mixed races of latinamerica.

It's true that the encomienda system fucked up the natives, but that had much more to do with the greedyness of the colonists than any kind of ethical justification like the english colonists did.

Finally, during 1551-1552 there was a serious debate about how america and the natives should be treated and governed, which gave birth to the first laws of protection toward natives in human history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valladolid_debate

Meanwhile, the anglos would happily keep killing natives for the next 300 years without a single shred of scruples.

Ok so I need a tip. What the hell am I supposed to do with the unbidden? They spawned on the other side of the galaxy, in the middle of the most powerful empire atm. That empire got spanked and is nothing now.

The AI cant do shit and the unbidden continue to spread everywhere. I can put together 50 something fleet, but I got no allies to get a decent fleet size together. I can take on one of the 60k unbidden stacks flying around, but with losses and thats just a fraction of them anyway.

The portal alone got 90k strength on it, with other trash in the system and there is a 500k doomstack flying around. I suppose the game is lost right?

I get that the crises are supposed to shake things up ... but end the game? Thats stupid.

people making fun of the US citizen's ability to sue will never make sense to me

Corporations and governments have access to the best lawyers in the country. If you win against a large corporation (McDonalds coffee woman) then you are most definitely in the right.

Suing is quite honestly one of the most fundamental parts of a judicial system. It allows the common person to wield the law. China had a huge problem with their citizens finding it hard to sue others.

>>159129617

It's about prevalence of frivolous suits in america. I know it's not real and most of them get thrown out very quickly. But it's just plain amusing to a lot of europeans that a simple dispute between two parties requires judicial system to resolve. Adults behaving like children is a thing that happens way more in america than most other countries.

She was right. Do your actual research on the case. The coffee caused severe damage, and it was due to McDonald's using unsafe methods in terms of how much they heated the coffee (it was much, much hotter than the coffee made at any other similar place, and htus caused extremely severe burns). The suit forced them to retool their methods to be safer to consumers.

Why do you think corporations should just be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want and get away with injuring and killing their customers?

Will continue, but taking a break.

The polar caps have melted twice.
When I continue I think I will build up more spies and then nuke all of their cities through espionage.
I think it takes like 17 turns between each polar ice cap melting and they need to melt quite a few times. Each turn on their end results in a lot of bombing, and during my turns I make sure to move around fighters to scout for enemies I can kill which takes some time.

My fort lines have been broken a few times, but they've been easily retaken with howitzers.

Worst hit was when the babylonians broke the line and snuck a spy through.
The spy didn't nuke(spies can nuke cities with SDI) the city, but it didn't poison the water supply lowering the population a lot.
>>
>>159138019
Not significantly higher. It's not density, it's a solution / heteromix of suspended particles and not a particularly high ratio one at that. Even 150 (which is pure bs) is hardly enough to cause ''severe'' damage.

Explain why the woman in the hot coffee case literally needed skin grafts due to how damn hot the McDonald's coffee was then. There may also have been issues with how the cups were designed as well, leading to easy spillage.

Regardless, the problem is that corporations and ignorant people try to portray the case as the woman who was injured being a money-grubber, when the fact is that most of the damages weren't even paid to her - she was just suing for them to cover her damn medical costs. Most of the damages were paid to the state as punitive damages due to finding that McDonald's had not taken care to change their ways even with a history of prior burn victims.

The woman wasn't suing to be a money-grubber, she was suing for the corporation to take fucking responsibility for their unsafe practices causing injury by paying for those medical bills, and also to ensure that they would take steps to make sure shit like this won't happen again.

Since ther'es all the arguing, here's the reason for why teh coffee caused such severe burns:

>The sweatpants Liebeck was wearing absorbed the coffee and held it next to her skin. You dumb nigger.
Any hot beverage WILL burn you to that extent provided you remain in contact for too long. Coffee can't fucking burn you any more than boiling water can, since that is how coffee is made and served. Do you mean to say boiled water and tea are now illegal to serve?

>>159140078
>88C
So not even boiling water?
Hot coffee is boiling water tier or not even in this case. Extended contact causes burns, sure but that means shit, so does tea or even some ramen soups.

>>159140320
How long was she in contact? Thirds from water is not particularly easy to achieve, she had to have been basically drenched for full minutes.
I also am even more convinced that this has to be blamed on cup design or something, because the problem isn't temperature anymore and those pants would've made even cooler coffee (70-75) cause 2nd degree burns.

>>159140823
But 88C isn't abnormally hot for coffee. It's not even boiling.
>>
>>159140585
Do you wear pants expecting to get them doused in scalding hot coffee?
>>
>>159140585
Almost all pants are going to absorb liquids like that. So unless you're going to argue that it should be a rasonable expectation for someone to take their pants off before drinking coffee, no matter where they are, then no.

It still sounds like the bigger issue to me wasn't with the heat of the liquid, but with how the cup was designed. I do know one of the results of the case was they re-desigend the cups to prevent spilling, so as said, the lawsuit did ultimately have a positive effect- pushing the company to take methods to make their product safer for the consumer.
>>
>>159140924
Isn't it about cup design and not coffee's temperature then?
You can be burned from sub-60 degree soup if you stay in contact too long.

Firstly, I apologize before on the reality comments. I'm the same person who found the pants explanation, so I will admit I was retarded and was wrong in that argument. I'm sorry.

Secondly, as for how long in contact, She was a passenger in a vehicle at the time of the spill, and also was a 79-year-old lady probably going in panic mode from the sudden burning, so she probably wasn't able to calmly assess the situation and immediately take the pants off.

It was found in the case that McDonalds did serve at a higher temprature though, which was an issue raised during the actual case:

>McDonalds also said during discovery that, based on a consultants advice, it held its coffee at between 180 and 190 degrees fahrenheit to maintain optimum taste. He admitted that he had not evaluated the safety ramifications at this temperature. Other establishments sell coffee at substantially lower temperatures, and coffee served at home is generally 135 to 140 degrees.

>Further, McDonalds' quality assurance manager testified that the company actively enforces a requirement that coffee be held in the pot at 185 degrees, plus or minus five degrees. He also testified that a burn hazard exists with any food substance served at 140 degrees or above, and that McDonalds coffee, at the temperature at which it was poured into styrofoam cups, was not fit for consumption because it would burn the mouth and throat. The quality assurance manager admitted that burns would occur, but testified that McDonalds had no intention of reducing the "holding temperature" of its coffee.

GENTLEMEN

How do we fix Stellaris?

I really love the game and the concept, but I feel like it needs some major overhauls to improve replayability. What are your issues with the game and how would you fix them?
>>
>>159141349
Plaintiffs' expert, a scholar in thermodynamics applied to human skin burns, testified that liquids, at 180 degrees, will cause a full thickness burn to human skin in two to seven seconds. Other testimony showed that as the temperature decreases toward 155 degrees, the extent of the burn relative to that temperature decreases exponentially. Thus, if Liebeck's spill had involved coffee at 155 degrees, the liquid would have cooled and given her time to avoid a serious burn.

That last paragraph is why they argued that McDoanlds serving the coffee at a higher than other restaurants temperature lead to the hazard

They were saying that, already factoring her age, if the coffee was at 155 degrees (as it is with most othe restaurants), she wouldn't have been seriously burned. That's what their whole argument boiled down to - that they intentinoally served their coffee at a higher temperature than most others, and if they had served it at the same temperature other restaurants did, this wouldn't have happened. Thus, McDonalds was responsible for the injury due to their practices.

Like food is needed to feed population, some surplus help growth, food can be stored for famine times and pops growth in cities from migration from countryside and other shit(like better hygiene and sanitation).

But I think it would be great to farm resources and yields outside city range like in Alpha Centauri using supply units. Or at last by building camps or forts to get resource.

>>159141494
i haven't played stellaris since release so i don't know if they fixed anything but assuming they fixed the obvious bugs:

>more species variety from a gameplay standpoint
besides ideology everything is mostly just cosmetic and doesn't really affect how you play the actual game. for example the planet wheel is a missed potential that could have made big differences in what you can colonize but in the end it's just a matter of what color of planet do you want senpai that is made moot with technology. moo2 have more impactful traits

>warfare
casus beli system is shit if you want to be warmonger in the context of space, this isn't eu4

>planets and sectors
more indepth management of planets, i was able to fix the midgame bore by increasing planet limit to 10 so there was always something to tweak and set up new colonies before giving it to sectors. what paradox has gone was to eliminate this satisfying management completely by limiting you to too few planets and not providing you with anything to do instead.

>tech tree
again, needs more variety from game to game. it works great at first but after few games you realize you discover everything except 1-2 ideology related techs anyway, which in turn makes every other aspect like ship design and planet management the same or similar every game

not sure how they improved the ai over the time so i won't comment on that

Sadly, I only found two on Steam:

"Longer Eras - Historic" (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=220412890 )

and "Faster Building - Marathon" ( http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=661118157)

Did you had one of those in mind or I should keep looking?

It's a qol thing i guess. It has often happened that I'm speeding through, it'll pop an event, and I want it to stay paused because I want to address something right afterwards, instead of always forgetting, hitting accept, and speeding through when I wanted it paused

I guess I'll learn to just use space bar

What are usually the best early techs to grab early? And I should be prioritizing minerals right?

I keep hearing mixed opinions on colonizing super early for the land grab, or going Planetary Unification, using a couple frontier posts to increase territory, and conquering neighbors.

I don't remember faction variety being an issue, it had quite a few they are cool enough to carry IMO. Game has other issues, mostly related to lack of automation for basic tasks and what I percieve as lack of depth in war/diplomacy.

It's very alpha right now. Still has better logistics and diplomacy than stellaris as far as I'm concerned. It's VERY simplistic tho, like hunt down all but absolutely necessary detail and shoot it. Not shallow, but simplistic. I.E. Consepts reduced as much as possible to make them more transparent. I liked it but as I said, it has a long way to go before one can properly judge it. Half the tehs are dev comments "one day it will matter", till then have a minor boost as placeholder.

I like it, especially with expansions. Have some nice mods, too.

Just keep in mind that this is purely war focused 4x - ALL victory conditions, even Unification or how it was called, require you to wage war, at least at some point.

At least combat is far better than in previous AoW games, at least in my opinion. Finally you get actual combat instead of neverending "MISS MISS MISS MISS MISS" series and units with high dodge being basically invincible.

What are some good Mods for Stellaris?

I'm fucking around with alphamod right now. I like that there are more building options, and that adjacency bonuses are more common, but I hate how it adds a million different stupid resources.

just take it easy bruh.
Don't really make sectors unless you need one, which is when you hit planet cap.
Just keep upgrading your planets, respect the tile resources unless you need something real bad or you can safely swap it for something better, occupy the empty non-bonus tiles with stuff like silos' or power hubs to benefit boreding tiles.
Making planet purely for science and boosting it with science vessel is a good idea too.

Not being able to damage planets which are essentially the only source of economy is also one of the reasons the war in the game is terrible. Aside from the wargoal limitations, and the combat mechanics, and everything else.
In fact, the single most valuable thing is your fleet.

You are supposed to build military yes. you don't need too big of one, just don't overextend your borders if you have trouble protecting them. Early game rushes can be summarily halted by 2 warriors and 2 archers. You need more later, but compared to insanity of district costs producing units, especially with right policies, is a cakewalk.

A small question - I started game with "historic" speed mod (marathon speed of technologies research, normal speed for production), with PerfectWorld3 mapscript. Three civs spawned relatively close to me, but I will try to hold on my own.

However, Greece is on the right and clearly started producing settlers rather agressively.

Should I try to grab some land on the lower right on the screen I show or dont risk it?

Im still not very experienced, this is my second time with Prince difficulty.
>>
>>159166259
>there is no point competing for early wonders
Depends on difficulty, but honestly unless you are china it's not worth the effort. And map script forces people to have neighbours so I wouldln't be concerned about whole no neighbours thing.

>>159166178

>>
>>159162991
you gotta create stupid cities if you want strategic resources. Sometimes you'll even have to create cities on islands to get them. I'm pretty sure the game is designed that way to force you into some late game settling
>>
>>159163861
on immortal I go slinger-slinger-slinger-settler and get the archer upgrade asap. 3 archers are an unstoppable early game force against AI
>>
>>159167241

you can choose to avoid them and keep their territories, or shove them into reservations which means occasionally you get raided, one pop dies or a building gets damaged.

I just lost that city and game as a whole. Another two groups of archers came from behind and I couldnt hold more than three spearmen and one archer due to lack of founds.

I thought that prince gives AI the same starting ground as player, how can they hold that large army? I counted 3 warriors, 1 chariot and overall 5 groups of archers.
>>
>>159169424

Guess you didn't. Generally ranged units are king in V, archers are generally better at defending cities than warriors. In fact they're great in general, the best time to go to eat is once you get archers, once you get longbowmen and once you get crossbowmen. Getting rushed early is probably overall most difficult to defend from, though.

Still I have no idea what ate up your gold so much you couldn't afford five units on Prince. What techs were you researching? Did you try to build a road between these cities? Or did you build a ton of random ass buildings with upkeep?

I dont have the money for that. And even if I would buy archers or two, it wont change the fact that there are FIVE groups of archers out there.

>>159170772

I only made one more city at the south-east of the capital. Around the time China started war against me, Greece made yet another, 6th city right next to my own capital.

Turn is pretty late, but again, Im playing on "historic" speed aka 3x research time, 1x production time. When Im thinking about that, this might be the reason behind this massive army (Greece, at the other hand, didnt produce some fuckhuge one, Spain and Geramny from nearby didnt either).

I panicked with expanding, being outrun from all directions by AI spamming settlers.

I just wanted comfortable, longer game...

I even tried again, this time with 12 AI civs instead of 14 and again with huge map, only to have Greece again spawn next to me, this time really almost within limit from my capital.

For fuck sake, this is huge map, why AI must spawn right on my ass?

Do Inquisitors in cities drive off enemy Missionaries and Apostles like in Civ5?

You only need mining to chop the forest. You started on plantation resources so no idea why you wanted writing over calendar save for the great library rush that did nothing for you in the end. Sugar plantations give extra cash too, which would help.

Though honestly, it feels like it's the mod balance issue, with so long of a research time you're bound to end up with fuckton of units or buildings until you get to produce wealth where in turn you'll end up with a lot of gold.
>>
>>159172836
They can attack missionaries and apostles.
>>
>>159173140
In Civ5 if you sat an Inquisitor in your city, the enemy religious units would pass by your city without attempting to convert it. Does this tactic work in Civ6 as well or is the only means to defend my religion Infinite Apostle Works?

I went for Writing, because that I modded some custom civ to have exactly the same UA and bonuses as Babylon, so I wanted that Great Sciencist to make Academy. I guess it was wrong move then.

>Though honestly, it feels like it's the mod balance issue, with so long of a research time you're bound to end up with fuckton of units or buildings until you get to produce wealth where in turn you'll end up with a lot of gold.

Actually, mod author claimed that it also reduce AI willing to produce settlers and spam cities (didnt work, it seems) and shift wealth production to mining, to encourage AI to produce money instead of units.

I just wanted to avoid situation, where I only make buildings and wonders in cities, because I develop so fast that millitary units become obsolete even before they finish their production. It backfired completely.

So, aside from researching evenly and avoiding wonder whoring (I would still want that Artemis tho), what else I should remember difficulty 4 and above?

In Stellaris, one of my neighbors is a stone-age civilization. I'm roleplaying as a human technocracy. What do you think I should do with these guys?

A) Colonize the planet but remain in enclaves to observe them
B) Colonize the planet and limit the natives to reserves
C) (Is this one even possible for me?) Wait until they hit Bronze because that's when you can enlighten them, I think?

Or have I got it wrong?
>>
>>159174621
I had alot of fun with them last game though, I like how they set it so one will always spawn next to the galaxy core so you can have a ideal place for a late game capital. this one is completely fucked though
>>159174938
they usually get a unique trait if you enlighten them that will make them good for a slave race usually something like +10-15% (resource here). I usually just conquer and purge though since not having homogeneous empire demos sets off my autism
>>
>>159174938
C is not possible, Stone Age doesn't advance to Bronze.
Do (A), as a technocracy you should want to maximise science and (A) gives you the most tribes to study.

Another question: When do I know when it is safe to delete a Frontier Outpost? ie, how can I see how much of my borders I will lose when I delete it? It's just that a nearby colony is encroaching on the systems I wanted anyway, so I was curious to see if it was safe to delete the outpost.

no fun allowed
>>
>>159175902
you can just delete it and save beforehand to check you know, there is no way to see border loss beforehand from what I know. I usually don't fuck with using outposts that much unless there are some really special system outside of reach with either some strategic stuff or vast amount of resources in early game like +10-12 at least since the things cost so much influence which is pretty finite compared to other resources, rather spend it on colonies
>>

it's not like that anymore since they removed colonization techs and changed it to habitability based, you can now rapidly expand using more solid colonies instead. they are pretty much obsolete except certain situations

Yeah, cancel that and switch to slingers. Civ VI is more aggressive this time around and barbarian raids something you need to deal with. You need min 1-2 warriors 2 slingers to be relatively comfortable before you can focus on improvements and expansions. The sooner you clear up the camps, the faster you can simcity.

Subs can bombard two tiles inland and raid coastal tiles. And it's not like it plays another animation when targeting land units, it just launches torpedoes and they go straight through the water and up onto the land.

No, it makes no sense. That's what happens when you have restrictive unit types and it has to go in the same line as Privateers because it's the only place it fits.

>And it's not like it plays another animation when targeting land units, it just launches torpedoes and they go straight through the water and up onto the land
I've noticed subs having a separate animation where they fire a missile up into the air that then lands on target. It's possible that's used only for cities and not for ground units, though

What is the best way to research ASAP in Stellaris? I've done some experimenting, but I'd be interested to hear what other people do. I generally either go straight materialism with despotic hegemony and intelligence traits, or leverage indirect democracy and talented to get insta-5 star leaders. Sometimes I've used spiritualism and divine mandate to keep divergence low so I can permanently keep "encourage free thought" running.
