Isn't that completely redundant, if not absolutely incompatible?

Do you use any mods beside the ones you listed? I was looking for some overhaul like Alphamod, or something that at least allows me to properly colonize/terraform and adds more variety in tech/infrastructure.

I was also looking for mods compatible with Megastructures

Are you supposed to stop building corvettes late game? I'm not losing any other ships unless I get flanked by another fleet. My last fight against the unbidden I lost nearly 150 corvettes, 12 destroyers, 0 cruisers and 5 battleships. They've all got the speed boost module too.

>>158693937

It adds to the problem, but numbers is overrated. The problem is how much shit do horseman, as a class, have. Ignoring control zones alone is enormous. Movement speed, in system where moving more than 1 tile is an achievment is absurdly good, etc. Horses now are essencially what CB/XB were - absurdly good units that cheat the system.

>>158694509
>But they should be good if they are proportionately more expensive
No, it's not good to have one unit type be so OP. Even if they bring back limiting number of units by resources you have, this is too much. Good gameplay comes from strategy, spam horses is not a strategy, it's a bullet point.

Good would be if they had downsides and upsides like they did in 5. Granted 5 failed their balance too by making them utterly useless, but what can ya do.

You want to see good balance in 6? Spear vs Club have good balance. Spear is weaker in head on match, but gets to be better at killing horses. And I still would counter horse army with horse army in civ6 not with spear army.
>>
>>158694813
they should just split the movement penalties from hills and forests

hills don't give a movement penalty to cavalry but do to non-cavalry, forests don't give a movement penalty to non-cavalry but do to cavalry. At least then you would have some reason to make non-cavalry.

>>
>>158694998
Nah the movement system is sound as is. moving through forest IS harder than a plain. All you need to make it enjoyable is to bump movement of all units by 1 point. Horseman movement bonus should be their key selling point, case that's what they had going for them. The issue is few other things CAV get that should be nerfed to the ground, mainly avoiding control zones.
>>
>>158694787
that failed but at least we learned the bugs use no shield technology so we can switch our weapons to fully penalise their silliness

So now that TachLance spam is no longer viable, how should I be building my fleets?

Right now I'm building Battleships with Tach Lances bows, Carrier cores, and Kinetic Artillery sterns, these are backed up by a pair of torpedo/career cruisers, which are in turn each backed up by a pair of missile/picket destroyers, which are in turn each backed up by a pair of torpedo boat corvettes. The build is designed to maximize the amount of torpedoes, lances, and amoeba swarms. Everything from destroyer on up has two point defenses and two small gamma lasers as secondary weapons, but I'm concerned that my fleet is built around fancy toys and that I have a serious lack of regular guns.

Should I have included some broadside/artillery type ships?

Not sure you can look up names, but you can see who's lost one.

Spain's capital is Madrid, though. At least under Philip.

Found interesting stuff in the data file looking for the city names; there are 5 ethnicities currently in game- African (Kongo), Asian (China, Japan), Euro (America, England, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Spain), Mediterranean (Arabia, Egypt, Greece, India, Rome, Scythia, Sumeria), and South American (Brazil)

Not sure what that defines specifically, Aztecs don't even appear to have a listing in their DLC folder.

This happens every single game. Some retard will declare war on me from across the continent and then give me war weariness for like 100 turns.

Somehow my game seems to be bugging out.
Its Deity and since some 150 turns or so the AI has stopped really doing anything.

I just went to war with China and the AI didnt produce a single unit while I was attacking the cities, nor did it really fight back despite having the troops. Also despite not being outclassed at all it was ok with a contract that had the AI give me nearly all its cities.

I once didn't settle a city in civ2, and only got the goodies huts.
So I had a horde of NONE-support units all over eurasia. Since I kept moving my settler while the others settled I got like all the goodie huts.
And since I had that vast army I could easily just move units close to their cities and demand tribute or technology.
I think the egyptians managed to seal of africa after I got 1 unit through and they expanded a bit so I couldn't demand stuff from them after a while.
I could trade tech with them with the techs I got from the other civs though.
I guess that's the most barbaric thing I've done.

So I'm all pumped to start making my space shit to go for a science victory only to realize I'm fucked because my city needs to either grow 1 pop to allow for another district or I need to remove a district (Which I can't) to build the spaceport.

Growing the city is difficult because it requires amenities, which since you can't control where luxuries go even though I'm trading for luxuries none of them are hitting that city.

>>158705684
Corvettes die too quickly, so all I build are heavy kinetic battleships, (battleship) carriers, 'shoot smaller stuff' cruisers, torpedo cruisers and PD destroyers.

FEs launch huge amounts of strikecraft, but they're all actually bombers so having a single flight of fighters on the carriers each means that their strikecraft all go down before they can even get near the fleet. If fighters shoot down torpedoes and missles as well I wouldn't need the PD destroyers at all, either.

Torpedoes have problems with PD as usual but I put missles on the torpedo cruisers so that enemy PD has more things to choose from.

Don't you get the benefit of it? Every time I've had a strategic resource show up under a district I still get it.

>>158705764

Not a bad idea. I took a break to go make some tea and watch a little bit of the baseball game which brought the curse upon the Cubs since they shit the bed in the 7th inning while I was watching, but once I fire it back up I'll try to do that.

It may not matter much though, since it's some 30 turns until the city gets 1 more pop anyway without an amenity, and since I'm going for a science victory I have tons of tech which means districts are stupidly expensive. Probably would take a similar amount of time just for me to build a district in a neighboring city anyway.

HOWEVER, talking all this through to you just now just reminded me that there's a policy card or two that provide amenities. I could swap cards around to try to hurry that shit up. Forgot about them because it's normally not something important but at the moment it is. Thanks, anon! You are appointed honorary-waifu status.

Im thinking of one on the left coast on the cliffs next to the two fish. Then the 2nd between the wine and horses in the middle and a 3rd on the right coastline between the pigs and cows. If there is any place better between the three im open to advice.

Second is outside of keeping some of the jungle up for Science bonuses is there any other reason to keep them standing? This is my second game but during my first one i could never decide what to do with the jungle tiles since the 2 food/hammer was not that bad for most of the match in a large mass.

Chop the jungle. Chop everything, if you really need production tiles you still chop em anyway and plant a forest and lumber mill it.

Best spot there though is probably your second choice, on the river between the win and horses. It gets the foxes and it's close enough to your other two cities to get an industrial district up north to stack factories.

Haven't tried it yet, but that should have changed.

If you're just fighting battleships with the biggest baddest weapon you can just go full torpvette to be more cost effective apparently.

To counter the torpvettes the battleships need to be supported by point defense which the battleship can't have, so they need some cruisers/destroyers with them to counter the torpedos.

> Is the new stellaris thing any good?
The Leviathans expansion-that-you're-supposed-to-pay-money-for adds giant space monsters and some more events. It's not all that game-changing.
The 1.3 Heinlein everyone-gets-it-automatically-as-an-update is actually more of a big change and contains a general slew of quality-of-life and balance improvements as well as 2 new planet types
> Does make the game f*n or is it still just a fun early game and then a snorefest and then fighting 8billionk stacks?
In my experience it's MORE of a snorefest as the economic rebalancing seems to have made taking your fleet out of dock even worse for your economy, and the warscore rebalancing means that instead of only being able to take 4 planets per war now you can only take 2.
> Is there still no reason to not make anything other than a single deathblob fleet armed with a trillion tachyon lances? Is there a reason to have different ship types in a fleet or do you still just mass produce just a single ship?
The ship designer has been majorly reworked, so yes, now a fleet composed of all battleships will lose compared to a mixed fleet. Also the weapon efficiencies have been tweaked so now it works like they said it was supposed to work in 1.0: that is, you see marked improvements in your success if retool your fleet between lasers / kinetic / missiles / lances depending on the configuration of your foe.
Also ship formations and battle engagement have been improved so fleets don't just drift at each other quite so slowly or stupidly.

Nonsense. expanidng is easier then ever after the continent revamp, and RoM actually added more interesting diplomacy options for SP. Don't overblow it.

while that's definitely true for all their bonuses but one, I do think that we're seriously underestimating the 25% strength increase to warriors and 33% increase to slingers. Units that you can make before people start spamming their horsemen and war carts.

Aztecs are good but the current meta is around horsemen, and scythia exterminate with them, not to mention the infinite gold from selling units and the 50 hp heal on kill by any unit. Aztecs basically rely on total early war for workers, and also rely on good luxury placement. Sumeria is good because war carts are extremely powerful, and because of how barbarians are in civ 6, raiding camps can get you a lot of good shit.

Germany is 10/10 for ai games, not so much for mp because of the early rushes, but having commercial/industrial districts in diamondshapes with 4 cities using an ultrawide strat is unbeatable.

What is China's early game really? Maybe I am looking to hard, but the only really game changing early game wonder combos is stonehenge+Pyramid/Petra. What are the other ancient/classical ones that are worth the time? Is it necessary to be near a city state that you can cheese for workers?

Regardless, china is shit because their special improvement is full on meme status. I would probably say they are are a weak civ for that very reason.10% bonus if you get the trigger is eh. Even their special unit is a meme!

Eh, stonehenge->oracle->colliseum is a decent chain. Good Petra can win you the game. All of that requires some degree of luck, but if you get it I'd say china is strong.

Decided to jump right into the awakened empire's capital, since they were all retreating back there.

Looks like this is their entire fleet here, but their ships are going down suspiciously easy. They also use the best of whatever that comes out of mods like the Crystalline power cores, shields and armour as well as the crews, so why are they falling apart this quickly? India is now all hills so I will start spreading pollution by nukes and force the caps to melt to ruin the rest of the world.
Still have some engineers bringing down the himalayas outside of my borders to remove the defensive bonuses from attackes, but I don't need to wait for that.

Sadly I don't think I will be able to nuke a lot of cities since everyone has SDI defenses up. Rome is still building cities in MENA since they're pushing the egyptians south(Thebes was wiped off the map after constant recapturing).
The important thing is to get >=9 pollution markers on the map so I could even go and nuke barbarians to achieve my goal.

Will probably use conventional nukes to bomb romes new cities and then use Spies to nuke other large cities.

32 hours and I've got a domination, science, religion, and culture win, cheesed a deity win, and feel satisfied I have experienced launch-civ6. Time to put it on the shelf and wait for the expansions.

Overall pretty enjoyable. Once they patch the global congress in it'll probably be better than fully expanded 5, and once they get an expansion or two released it may be one of (The?) greats.

Now to sink into the void of Hearthstone and Overwatch and D44m until Dishonored 2 comes out. And possibly Tranny, if I can be bothered to pick it up.

So weak that even normal empires are now declaring war on them

>>158721647
You get use them for one good reason: 120 range on the Mega/Giga Cannon. With that range you can initiate combat from further away.
The other reason to use the Mega/Giga Cannon over the Particle/Tachyon Lance is because kinetics deal more to shields and also still penetrate a good amount of armour, while lasers do less against shields but penetrate more armour (bad against any ship with a bunch of shield capacitors on). Particle/Tachyons also have less range than their kinetic counterparts for some reason.

Right now I'm waiting for the Unbidden to defeat the Awakened empire I swore fealty to before making a break for the the portal and saving the galaxy. This might take a while, so I might end up unlocking Giga cannons by the time this is over.

A pair of Kinetic artillery does more shield damage and has higher DPS than a Mega cannon. This is a serious oversight imo, spinal weapons should be scaled to be as powerful as at least three large weapons of the same tier. I'm not convinced 20 extra km makes up for the loss in DPS.

They should make base tile yields the same as civ 5. Where all hills are 2 hammers, all woods are 1 food 1 hammer and all jungles are 2 food.
It would really reduce the retardedness of start imbalances.

"Balanced" start only affects bonus resources and not actual tile yields.
Someone could end up with jungle hill bananas on 3 tiles and you end up with only 3 plains wheat and it considers it balanced because both players have 3 +1 food tiles.

not that anon, but I heard it from filthy's video
basically:

>limit growth so they dont get above 2 population (so they dont use amenities)
>build commerce/hanzas between the 4 cities, grouping them up so they get lots of bonuses
>the hanzas give the overlapping production bonuses with shit like factories so they're not that bad with producing units even with low population
and you just chop woods around them while building the districts so it doesn't take 200 turns
you can just do this over and over again with minimum city distance, but its pretty untested so it might be better in theory

Here's some protips for the newlads

>Choose either small map size (or smaller). Larger is pointless and adds nothing to gameplay but barren space that wont be inhabited. Pointless performance drain
>Have only 6 at most, preferable 4 or less AIs. At later stages when their amount starts to matter half of them would've been annexed, resulting in that amount anyway. A huge performance drain
>Play on Marathon. The game is actually most balanced around it and lets you get the most out of every era. Seems boring, but its not
>ALWAYS pick "food pockets" as your settlement location (a river surrounded by floodplains). The growth of blitzing food is insane. Use your merchants to cover for the lack of production by trading with cities of 4+ production per trade route

I doubt that. Not every civ in IV had multiple leaders, plus there are just some civs in the game where it wouldn't make sense for multiple leaders because they don't have many notable ones. Brazil, Aztecs, Scythia, Kongo, and Sumeria for example, as well as likely future civs like Zulu.

I'm sure by the end of the game's life we'll see most civs having only one leader, a decent amount with 2, and a select few civs with 3. Which was pretty much how Civ 4 ended up.

This

I like the idea of comfy games spanning world history and all, but Civilization has been garbage at that since 5 anyway. If the speed changes affected tech and not production, or if production was balanced differently I could understand, but the way Civ works there is no actual difference between Quick and Marathon except in how many times you press Next Turn.

And possibly how long a war could potentially last, but the AI is retarded in that regard anyway and it would just cripple everything with War Weariness.

Well I've brought 3 games of civ on immortal to the endgame now and the endgame really sucks. The AI just doesn't do anything and everybody lives in a hugbox until you win your science or culture victory.

Dang the chinese managed to breach the wall

Every turn Bombay gets attacked by Roman and Babylon Stealth bombers. Most of the Babylonian Stealth Bombers get confused by the wall and move back and forth in front of it though, some find the edge and try to go for Lahore.
The western cities get attacked by egyptian stealth bombers every or every other turn. The chinese send tanks, marines, howitzers, helicopters and mechanized infantry straight into the wall while attacking the eastern cities with stealth bombers.

>tfw building the collosseum in 1850 ad because emperor ai doesn't give a shit about ammenities

It means every city center within six tiles receives it's benefits.

Proximity bonuses are huge in this game, you HAVE to consider where you're placing your cities and districts to maximize gains if you're playing the harder difficulties.
>>
>>158732405
Count the Colosseum as tile 0. Count out 6 hexes in any direction. City Centers in that radius get the bonus Amenities.

I don't know if there is a more optimal way to do it but basically if they ask for gold + gpt, keep adding gold until it says they are happy to accept then remove gpt and they will likely say they aren't happy and then click the 'what u want' button and they will want a lower amount

Way easier: Take any resource, and input on the right side all their gold and gpt. Ask how to equalize TWICE in succession. First time they will ask for bullshit and second time they will give you roughly the amount you inputted in the beginning or resources of equal value.

Repeat (you can do this with luxuries and strategic resources) as often as you want.
You can ask for all the GPT an AI has infinitely often per turn.

Note however, that the AI will be more willing to part with more money the more money you have. I have no idea why, but if the AI is not falling for the exploit its most likely because you dont have enough money.
