What determines Unbidden spawnrate? I decided to try to headshot the portal, only to have these two fleets fight non-stop for a year straight as 280k stacks of Unbidden keep spawning when a current fleet is about to go down, to the point where I think I've blown up at least 1.5mil worth of Unbidden in that system alone, though I won't be able to keep it up at this rate.

I don't remember them spawning this crazy fast in 1.2.5.

Civ V had such an excellent soundtrack, wonder why they went backwards in that regard

Blue line shows how far I can move my fighters.

Fighters have 14 movement, but if they end a turn outside a carrier, airstrip or city they die.
Attacking costs 1 movement.
I have 53 Stealth Fighters and over the course of the game I've lost 39 of them.
I have some defending all my cities, and each turn I move some of them out hunting enemy units.

There's fog of war of sorts, but it's not visible in the game. The enemy units in the red circles that are fortified are there, but there may be other units around them. If they moved those units during their turns I would lose vision over them.
Since they're mechanized infantry behind fortification I avoid attacking them with my fighters.
I also avoid attacking into rougher terrain depending on the unit. Tanks/Marines I attack when they're on flatland. Helicopters, Spies and Stealth Bombers I always attack unless they're grouped behind fortification.

In the purple circle there's a stack of chinese units that have been attacking the wall.
If I attack into it I will fight 1 of their units, if I win, the entire stack dies.
If they were in a city or behind fortification only 1 of them would die.
I don't need to use my fighters for those since they're adjacent to the walls, I will instead use a Howitzer to take them out.

The forts with mechanized infantry in the brown outlined area are temporary forts.
They are there to protect the engineers that are bringing down the mountains.
Eventually they'll look like the red outlined area and I'll move back.
I do this since Mountains and Hills have heavy defensive bonuses.
300% strength defending in mountain, 200% strength defending in hills. If they attack me and end their turn on plains rather than Mountains I have an easier time taking them out.

Pink circle shows an Egyptian AEGIS Cruiser.
They have double strength vs missiles and air.
When they get close I move out battleships to take them out.
>>

Hansas are a special district and dont count towards your total number of districts. It also builds instantly.

Germany allows you to have one additional district to that.
Every city in the HRE has a commerciel hub, hansa, campus as a basic and produces science, hammers and traderouts/gold.

If the battleship is too wounded to move back into the port I move out AEGIS Cruisers to cover it because the following turn the AI will go berserk and start to send Cruise Missiles at the battleship.
I send more AEGIS Cruisers since they have so many missiles that after a few of them the cruiser will go down.
If I have more the AEGIS Cruisers will take turns fighting each Cruise Missile though and I can save the Battleship.

The Blue Circles show where the Chinese Stealth Bombers or chinese ships like to attack.
Yellow circles show where the Egyptian Stealth Bombers like to attack.
White circle shows where the roman and babylonian stealth bombers like to attack.

>>

Districts get more expensive depending on your total progress in the most advanced of either the tech or civics tree

The maximum is 10x if you finished a tree, aka 600 production per district

If you could build a district at the start of the game (which you can't in my knowledge), it would cost 60 production

Dear /civ4xg/.

Because I cant afford Civ VI right now and because of some negative opinions out there, I decided to replay Civ V for fun.

What map settings and mods would give me most comfy and longest game, without 10m long turns in later game? Also, is turn time linked to map size or nuber of civs?

I tried this PerfectWorld script, but it often gave me weird results, like starting blocked by mountains from two sides and two other civs from another sides or starting in completely isolated part of the world, without any good spots for city founding.

Also, is there a way to exclude some civs from random choice? I mean, I dont want to manually select civs all the time, but at the same time I would rather want to comfy get Great Library, Hanging Gardens or Artemis Temple without having Ramzes outrun me or found religion without Boudica being the fastest.

Oh and who would be better for comfy run, avoiding wars and focusing on inner growth? Celts or Mayans?

Thanks for replies!

Oh and are there any good BALANCED anime-themed Civs? Hidamari Sketch one was fun to play and not too much overpowered (-15% culture and gold costs of buying tiles. Wonders produce an additional +1 culture, happiness, gold, and science,. Starting settler is always within 3 tiles of Marble - last part never worked on PerfectWorld).
>>
>>158736143
That makes no sense. The basic districts don't even provide that much bonuses.

Thy should scale the production of the buildings upgrade so that it doesn't take a shit ton to place a district and a library down but it does to upgrade it to a university.

>>
>>158736261

Some digging has been done in the files and it's a tech scale, not a per district scale

The only global scaling is that if you have less districts that the global average, your districts of that type are 25 % off until you catch up

>>158736321

Buildings aren't scaled (or at least don't appear to be), which is probably why district building times appear fucked in the late game

to add to this, the scale is set to 1000 and i'm guessing that this adds up to things being 10 times as expensive (1000%) by the time you've filled either tree

settlers, religious units and builders have a cost multiplier based on # previously built instead. 20% for settlers and 4% for builders iirc

i just deleted the costprogression tags. made the game much more fun.

Pretty much

If you're going to settle, it's early or never. You could already tell that from the general feeling of the game though (late settles are dead and rip, you'll never make them productive)

Once that's over, your only recourse is outright conquering enemy cities with districts

Why they couldnt really make it properly balanced?

Even district-based system of Endless Legend is better, based on what I heard about Civ VI.

And why they still cant provide special type of settler that change with each era and when making a city, already provide certain basic buildings, based on your tech advance?

You don't. The AI will hate you just for existing. Even in the extremely rare case you ever manage to get a friend, or even an ally, they will always stab you in the back the first opportunity they get. Seriously, I have never once had a friend/ally in my game that didn't end up declaring surprise war at me at some point, despite doing everything in my power to maintain good relations.

Just treat every game as it was Always War with the occasional lull in action, because that's the only way the AI ever makes any fucking sense in this game.

Scythia is better at war because the premier fighting unit is horsemen and she gets two instead of one for every one she builds.
She also has the most actually retarded ability in that all her units have the heal thing that the jaguar in civ 5 had. ALL OF HER UNITS.
She also deals more damage if you are hurt.

She's also the best sim city civ because building 2 horse units per turn in every city and then deleting them and then just buying anything you need is faster than actually building buildings

I decided not to use Horseman Economics unless it's not fixed in the first patch like it should be.

holy cities radiate religious pressure of their founding religion naturally. You could wait a few turns and see what happens but if the outside pressure of other religions is too much it's gone unless you have another city where the religion still exists and has a holy site + temple.

>Scythia in my current game goes religion whereas I'm conquering the continent
This makes me question, does AI have variables like Civ V, or do they only act according to their main agenda and hidden agenda? In this game Scythia got Devout so this explains it. But isn't there anything written in her AI, saying something like "be warmonger". Making their AI completely dependent on random agendas sound pretty stupid imo
>>
>>158743584

Or perhaps majority of testers liked Schythia or just wanted to have one civ ahead of others for their own gameplay purposes.

Not 4x related example, but in Dawn of War RTS game, Eldars had much more testers than other races and in the end, game was nickaned "Dawn of Eldar" for how they were insalely overpowered compared to everyone else.

I'm about to introduce a friend to Alpha Centauri. Someone that has likely never played 4X before, or very little Civ back in the day.

How should I go about explaining the basics to him? He seemed really interested in the concept/atmosphere of it, so I'm obviously going to delve head first with that too. But I mean the mechanics side.

I've been playing 4X for so long that explaining it to somebody new now seems like a very strange proposition.

There's two angles to this.
The obvious one is that these games are made with a diversity quota because SJWs.
The alternative is that the Soviet Union was the original SJW state (where do you think Cultural MARXISM comes from) so Raskova probably didn't actually accomplish anything, but as a man who literally inspired 1984, Stalin's propaganda didn't just distort, but actually made up history to make her sound important. Because the Soviet Union had diversity quotas in their history books before it was cool.

Main problem with history for females is that since the historical field has been made by males since it was created (and not only that field) the amount of women actually studied is really low.
Firaxis is grasping at straws to try and make an actually balanced game in that aspect since historiography itself is uneven in that sense.

I prefer the Imperial Guard. There's just something about having an average man with a basic training, an unexpensive laser rifle, a flak armor (basically a flashlight and a shirt in the 40k setting) taking on abominations that makes me love them.

The Imperial Guard is pretty much just a militia by the Imperium standard, they have casualties going over 70-80%, but they still hold the line.
That, and I have a soft spot for men, lined together, opening fire in a volley. Either with bows, muskets, or lasrifles.

It didn't have racial or homosexual quotas.

No, the problem with history for females isn't "They were all really cool and important but no-one studies them because of modern heteronormative patriachy".
The problem with history for females is that they didn't accomplish anything of note in history.
Now I'll grant that may be because they were oppressed by the literal, actual patriachs of history and forced to stay naked and barefoot in the kitchen, but regardless of why they never rose to leadership positions, it's still true that they never rose to leadership positions, and it's Stalin-grade historical revisionism to imply otherwise.

Just tried to play Civ Vi a couple of times on King. 1st try - i've got an island with like 1 luxury resource, no mountains, no iron, but a shitload of wheat, 1/3 was tundra and stretched way too long to be defensible. Ok, bad luck with location, let's try once again.
2nd game - almost got overrun by fucking barbarians in the very beginning. When i barely had 2 units they had 4 and all stormed to my capital, once i've dealt with this wave - another barb camp spawned at the opposite end and sent two horsemen and one archer (and all i had was 1 warrior and 1 slinger, 1 scout died in combat), didn't even had horses myself. Shortly afterwards an AI fagget beat me to Stonehedge by like 3 turns, even though i've rushed it and had early Quarry and Stone near capital.

It's worse than CivIII, or i just don't know how into Civ6.

Yeah, and that would be very important if religion wasn't shit and didn't require a holy site to operate. Sadly it is and it does. All the while everyone else already has 1-2 holy sites and only lost out on 1 of the utterly crap follower beliefs.

Even the diversity quota shit breaks down when you realize how many other options firaxis has to fill the quota.
You want a female french leader? Put in Eleanor of Aquitaine, for fuck's sake. You want black leaders? Pick a black head of state who didn't sell out his people to foreign business under a fig leaf of religion. There are plenty of those.
If they decide they need a homosexual leader and pick heliogabulus over baldwin the first we'll know firaxis has lost any credibility.

Energy, rather than "Dude 1000 lmao", is now the cap on the amount of military power you can have. And robots cost energy. So building robots now sits in direct opposition to getting military power, which is the only thing that really matters in the lategame.

We've had this conversation in the thread before, and the point has been made - fairly - that although lots of people complain that "All empires in Stellaris are the same", the nations in Civ aren't THAT much different either (although the differences are at least more *noticable*, UUs and everything).

I think the real problem in Stellaris is geography. Every *map* is the same. You'll never remember a specific game where you did a massive amphibious invasion, or where you held a mountain pass, or where you slapped down citadels and forts all over a plain for trench warfare. The Stellaris map has nothing like that - it's just a series of points in a node, and all the points look exactly the same. There's no sense of accomplishment in "breaking through the defensive line on the hill and rolling your tanks down into the central plain" because there is no defensive line, or hill, or central plain, in the entire game. It just feels like you're fighting over #1-1000 nodes on a network - hell, with hyperdrive you literally are doing that.

And that's why stellaris isn't replayable. Because every map is the same.
>>
>>158752619
Have you tried AI War? I'd be curious to hear your opinion about it.

what do when France wants to take your friendly city-state (that has much needed resources)?
>>
>>158753297
Not exactly. It's some weird Strategy/Tower Defense game. To put it simply, you have to take over a system solar or a galaxy, one planet at a time.

Except that taking a planet unlocks ressources and research, but raises your threat level, which influences the counter-attack's strength. If you try to capture every planet, the AI will answer with a force that will totally slaughter you, so you have to balance between making a beeline to the AI's core and capturing planets.

There are also many different kind of ships and defences that you can build. It's complicated, you have a lot of tricks up your sleeves, but I dunno, I can't get into it, I get bored easily.

I wanted your opinion because in that game, the map is randomly generated and exploiting the AI is what the game is about. You can't even do PvP.

So, it's been a long time since Stellaris came out. When it first came out, I ran an overnight session of twenty competing player-made empires and posted the results. I feel like with 1.3 out, now's a good time to do it again with a smaller number.

How about ten?

All I need is for you to put your empire selection screens like the United Nations of Earth one I have in my image.

Optional details you can provide include:
>Species Plural
>Species Adjective
>Species Naming List
>Ruler Name
>Homeworld Name
>Star Name
>Empire Adjective
But those aren't necessarily. I'll randomly generate those if I have to.

So, post your Stellaris empires if you want to get involved in this shitfest.

Quick question - given how Beyond Earth was designed with multiplayer in mind, requiring player to have victory condition and linked tech in mind from the very start, ditching completely feeling of being a colonist on alien world, trying to secure the new home, how is Civ VI in that regard?

What I felt in love with Civ series before, was making my own, small, virtual history, leading a nation and growing stronger over time, immersion and a bit of roleplaying. I dont like the approach of some kind of metagame with virtual leaders being aware of the fact of being characters in video game and aiming at certain victory condition right from the beginning.

I still liked Beru-beru, tho ;_;

You can get extra energy by ignoring food.

For example if all hydroponics farms were replaced in that planet it would generate what 30 extra energy + you can fill a planet quickly with robots. In late game it isn't that smart since even a single hydrofarm is enough for the entire planet but the entire midgame robots can work better. And of course robots have other advantages like being robots.

Mixing isn't very smart.

Use them on the edge of your areas to instantly jump start a colony and get it going extremely fast.

How do I into science

I build research stations everywhere as soon as I can, I have multiple sectors dedicated to science, each of my planets has several labs, I research debris and projects every time, I have several science ships on assist

Yet I can't seem to ever go beyond Equivalent with everyone. It might be an overexpansion thing, but there are always empires at least as big as mine and they're still at least equivalent.

I modded the tech penalty per pop and planet the first thing after my first game so can't say for certain.
In vanilla you basically want to maximize the space / (planets + pops) so settle small planets as far away from each other as you can and then fill the planets with labs.

I mean basically you want to bring up the science per pop ratio as much as you can, build more science labs, stack labs on one planet as much as possible and assist those. Build all the science you can on the outer space. Don't settle pointless planets. Etc. etc.

i think brazil somehow manages to be less relevant than norway
norway has historically been completely irrelevant to literally everything, norway did have a very brief moment of expansion, claiming iceland, greenland, some islands, and of course there's the first european colony in america, all (except the colony) of which stayed in the scandinavian fold for the rest of history
but beyond that norway has been nothing but battleground where denmark and sweden fought for clay, successfully making all three nations historically irrelevant, since none of them looked outwards at all and none of them managed to conquer the rest
the concept of vikings is nothing but niggers with fins, they pillage shit and nothing can be done about i because retaliation was impossible, thus instead of inventing things they just stole everything

all points true, however for all the deserved discredit, norway had one thing going for them
they were definitely ahead during the viking meme era, and they were in good position to finally wrest control of a lot more terrain, when disaster struck the monarchy fucking up succession laws, mere years later the black death obliterated norway and then it was historically fucked forever, being in unions siphoning every bit of resource and progress that could potentially be mustered otherwise
the swedish height of power should not be overstated though, they did partake in large battles south of magdenburg, however they very quickly fell from any military might very few decades later
denmark was more or less parallel to sweden the entire time except during sweden's military might

You into militaries via ship design.
During or after a battle, look at what kind of damage the enemy did to you the most. If it's missiles, add point defence. If it's laz0r, add shields. If it's kinetic, add armour.

The way you win is through autistic awareness of your enemy's build. It's a rock-paper-scissors thing.

Yeah, but there is an implication that entire map of EL game is just a minor part of auriga at large, and you are playing splinter factions not the main ones. So it makes sense for it to cover entire map. Well there is also the fact that the planet is a giant biolab with millenia old malfunctioning machinery underneath.
